Robert G. Melton

Robert G. Melton, 72, of Fraziers Bottom died November 23, 2004, at home.

Born July 2, 1933 at Fraziers Bottom, he was a son of the late Russell R. and Beulah V. Chapman Melton.

He was retired from U.S. Steel/Carbon Fuel and was a member of UMW District 17, Charleston, as well as the Putnam County Farm Bureau. He was a Christian.

Surviving: wife, Lorene F. Melton; sons and a daughter-in-law, Gary R. Melton of Milton and Paul T. and Twyla Melton of Fraziers Bottom; sister, Dolores Weber of Denver, Colorado; brother and sister-in-law, James and Geraldine Melton of Fraziers Bottom; three granddaughters, Jessica, Ashley and Candyce.

Service was held Friday, November 26, 2004, at Chapman Funeral Home, Winfield, with the Rev. David Panaro officiating. Burial was in Fraziers Bottom United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Marlene A. Egnor

Marlene A. Brown Egnor, 70, of Eleanor died Friday, November 26, 2004, at Putnam General Hospital following a long illness.

She was a Christian, a homemaker, and a lifelong resident of the Putnam County area.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ronald Sr. and his wife, Emogene Cauley Brown; daughters, Linda and Brenda Egnor; and a brother, Ronald Brown Jr.

Surviving: husband of 56 years, Lionel P. “Paul” Egnor; daughters, Pauline Moles of St. Albans, Betty Jean Craig of Cross Lanes, Barbara Lynn Harper of Winfield, and Beverly Stanley of Winfield; son, David Paul Egnor of Culloden; sisters, Marguerite Angelo of Tampa, Florida and Marion “Goo” Pone of Sayre, Pennsylvania ; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Service was held Monday, November 29, 2004, at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with the Rev. Joseph Moles, Minister Robert Pond, and Pastor Mike Ramsey officiating. Burial was in Beech Grove Cemetery, Eleanor.

Ernest W. Woodall

Ernest W. “Ernie” Woodall Jr., 53, of Poca died November 24, 2004, in Cleveland Clinic due to the injuries he received in an explosion at the Rhone-Poulenc Chemical Plant on August 18, 1993.

He was a Christian and a 1969 graduate of Poca High School.

Surviving: wife, Rita Woodall; parents, Ernest W. Woodall Sr. and Dorothy Woodall of Poca; sons, Glenn Woodall of Nitro and Joshua Woodall of Core; stepchildren, Brady and wife, Jackie Robinson of Bancroft and Amy Robinson of Milton; brother, Michael Woodall of Poca; sisters, Ramona Lockwood and Melody Priest, both of Poca; five granddaughters; numerous nieces and nephews; and a hot os other family and friends.

Service was held Monday, November 29, 2004, at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home, Poca, with Pastor Mayford Witt officiating. Burial was in Lilly Cemetery, Poca.

Ervan D. Coiner Jr., of Hurricane, husband of June Rexroad Coiner, died Saturday, November 20, 2004. He was retired from Union Carbide. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, November 23, 2004 at Teays Valley Baptist Church; burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. Arrangements by Allen Funeral Home.

Marie Parker Booth

Marie Parker Booth, 87, of Milton, widow of Edmond Ned Booth, died Wednesday, November 17, 2004, in St. Mary's Medical Center. A memorial service was held Saturday, November 20, 2004, at Henson Mortuary with Rev. Carl Lilly officiating. She was born April 18, 1917, in Morehead, Ky., daughter of Cliff Parker and Mary Porter Parker. She was a retired nurse, having graduated from Memorial Hospital Nursing School in 1941 and Cabell Huntington Vocational Technical School in 1956. She was a member of the Operating Room Technicians Association and attended Berea College. She was the beloved mother of sons and daughters-in-law, Wiliiam I. and Shirley Booth of Tucson, Ariz., and James Parker and Teresa Booth of Huntington; and daughters and sons-in-law, Ruth E. and Baxter Ray Blevins of Milton, Anna M. and Bob Wiles of Huntington; grandmother of Rita Swartz, Diana Booth and Brian and Monica Booth of Tucson, Ariz., Brandi Runyon, Brooke and Bra Dingess, Brea Wiles Aimee Chaffin and Chanelle Booth of Huntington, Catherine “Renny” Kelly of Key West, Fla. and Nora Tackett of Huntington; and great-grandmother to Daniel, Megan Booth, Chenault Swartz, Belinda Booth of Tucson, Parker and Zoe Runyon, Trey Chaffin, Deanna Hatfield, Mekhian Tackett and Jerome Whitfield of Huntington. The family requests contributions be made to the Ronald McDonald House. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and fellow workers.

Yancey Burns

Yancey Burns, 84, of Culloden, husband of Ella Hazel Salmons Burns, died Friday, November 19, 2004 in Putnam General Hospital. He was a retired electrician from Union Carbide. Funeral services were conducted at Koontz Funeral Home, Hamlin, W.Va.; burial in Burns Peaceful Valley Cemetery, Culloden.

Ervan D. Coiner Jr.

Ervan D. Coiner Jr., of Hurricane, husband of June Rexroad Coiner, died Saturday, November 20, 2004. He was retired from Union Carbide. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, November 23, 2004 at Teays Valley Baptist Church; burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. Arrangements by Allen Funeral Home.

Maybell Bragg Hamlin

Maybell Bragg Hamlin, 91, of Wyngate of Barboursville, W.Va., formerly of Huntington, W.Va., died Thursday, November 18, 2004, at her residence. She was born in Ona, W.Va., November 20, 1913, to the late James and Laura Chapman Mullens. Also, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Hamlin and eight brothers and sisters. She was a homemaker and a 32-year Red Cross Volunteer. She is survived by her children, Linda Miller and her husband Tom of Salem, Ohio, Walter Bragg and his wife Linda of Burlington, Ohio, Bettie Wheeler and her husband William of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Ralph Bragg of Huntington; 17 grandchildren 20 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Saturday, November 20, 2004, at Beard Mortuary, Huntington with Rev. Tom Miller officiating. Entombment in Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to The Inn at Wyngate C/O Rosalene Black, 750 Peyton Street, Barboursville, WV 25504.

Wilbur Jenkins Jr.

Wilbur Jenkins Jr., 81, of Glenwood, cousin of Mary Kathern Adams of Barboursville, died Friday, November 19, 2004 in Williamson Memorial Hospital. Graveside services were conducted Tuesday, November 23, 2004 in Fairfield Methodist Cemetery, Glenwood.

Hilda W. Pfeiffer

Hilda W. Pfeiffer, 92, of Barboursville passed away Friday, Nov. 19, 2004. Funeral services were conducted Monday, Nov. 22, 2004, at the Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, by Minister Walter Brewer and Minister Danny Evans. Entombment in Woodmere Memorial Park. She was born Jan. 22, 1912, in Heidelberg, Germany, a daughter of the late Gustav and Karolina Becker Heckmann. She was active in the Barboursville Senior Citizen exercise group for many years. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Brigitte and Philip Roy of Barboursville; two grandchildren and their spouses, P.C. and Mary Beth Roy of Ona and Andrea and Seth Kaplowitz of New York; and two great-grandchildren Hannah and Hunter Roy.

Jesse Lee McComas

Jesse Lee McComas, 20, of Hamlin, W.Va., died Tuesday, November 16, 2004, in Putnam General Hospital, Hurricane, W.Va. He was born April 2, 1984, in Cabell County, West Virgina. He was a 2002 graduate of Hamlin High School and a member of the Hamlin High Marching Band from the 7th through 12th grades. He had received his CDL in August from Boone County Trucking Academy. He is survived by his mother, Marsha Starr of Hamlin; father and stepmother, Mark A. and Donna J. McComas of Barboursville; grandfather and stepgrandmother, Howard and Henrietta Starr of Palm Bay, Fla.; grandmother, Ernestine McComas of West Hamlin; stepsisters, Erica Mount of Charleston, S.C., and Amber Oblinger of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; great-grandfather, Ernest Adkins of Nine-Mile, Midkiff, W.Va.; uncle and aunt, James R. and Debbie McComas of West Hamlin, uncle, Jim Starr of Orlando, Fla.; cousins, Brittany McComas of West Hamlin and Jimmy Starr of Boston, Mass. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, November 20, 2004, at Handley Funeral Home, Hamlin, W.Va., with Rev. Nancy White officiating; burial in Lincoln Memorial Park, Hamlin. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House or the Hamlin High School Marching Band.

James W. Nowlin

James W. Nowlin, 83, of Apple Grove died Thursday, November 18, 2004 in the Huntington VA Medical Center. He worked at American Car and Foundry and at the Robert C. Byrd Locks and Dam. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, November 21, 2004 at Beale United Methodist Church, Apple Grove; burial in Beale Chapel Cemetery. Deal Funeral Home, Point Pleasant, was in charge of arrangements.

Janice Kay Boggess Reynolds

Janice Kay Boggess Reynolds, 56, of Milton, formerly of Charleston, Sissonville area, went to be with the Lord on November 13, 2004, at home. Janice was a former employee of Carbon Fuel Coal Company at Winifrede and INCO Alloys in Huntington. She attended Good Hope Baptist Church of Milton. She was preceded in death by her father, Paul F. Toney. Survivors include her husband Willard Reynolds; daughter, Angela C. Milam and her husband Danny of Sissonville; son, Chris Boggess and his wife Julie of Charleston and son, Chad Boggess and his wife Misty of Milton; five grandchildren, Danielle Milam, Dusty Milam, Christopher Boggess, Madison Boggess and Chase Boggess; and great-granddaughter, Jadyn Milam; his mother and stepfather, Lessie Mae and Lester T. Derrick of Sissonville; sisters, Judy Derrick, Doris Burford and Donaetta Kiser, all of Sissonville, Cynthia Haynes of Cross Lanes and Ayumi Toney Ward of California; brothers, Raymond E. Toney and Timmy Derrick of Sissonville. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, November 20, 2004, at Long and Fisher Funeral Home.

Ralph V. Stowasser

Ralph V. Stowasser, 90, of Lesage, W.Va., died Nov. 18, 2004, in Morris Memorial Nursing Home, Milton, after a long illness. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was born July 24, 1914, in Cabell County, W.Va., to the late Henry and Bertha Stevens Stowasser. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Janis Barlow Stowasser; an infant daughter, Martha Sue Stowasser; and sisters, Averil Jefferson and Alfie Spurlock. He was retired from INCO with 35 years of service and was a United States Navy veteran of World War II serving on the USS Champlain. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Terry Midkiff of Ona, W.Va.; sons and daughters-in-law, Blaine and Deloris Stowasser of Meridian, Ga., Alan and Tammy Stowasser of Rock Hill, S.C., and Neil Stowasser of Chesapeake, Ohio; granddaughters, Alexandra “Alex” Victoria “Tori” Stowasser and Natalie Midkiff; sisters-in-law, Eloise “Cookie” Barlow of Glasgow, Ky., and Barbara Ezell of Okeechobee, Fla.; brothers-in-law, Bill Barlow of Gallatin, Tenn., Jim Settle of Indiantown, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, at Beard Mortuary, with the Rev. Carroll Jones officiating. Burial in Union Ridge, Lesage, with military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post 9738 of Guyandotte, W.Va. The family would like to extend special thanks to the caregivers at Morris Memorial Nursing Home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1111 E Lee Street, Charleston, WV 25301.

Floyd A. Vititoe Sr.

Floyd A. Vititoe Sr., 81, of Nokomis, Ill., formerly of Milton, passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2004. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, November 20, 2004, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton. Burial in Enon Cemetery, Salt Rock. He was born June 10, 1923, in Cabell Co., West Virginia, a son of the late Joseph L. and Ollie F. Payton Vititoe. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Marian H. Nix Vititoe; one daughter, Sheila Louise Vititoe and one son, Joseph L. Vititoe. Mr. Vititoe served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of Union Baptist Church, Milton. He is survived by two sons, Floyd Vititoe Jr. and his special friend, Joan Scholl of Danvers, Ill., and Murry Vititoe and his wife Paulette of Taylorville, Ill.; one daughter, Samantha Vititoe of Jacksonville, Fla.; one stepson, Russell Gene Nix of Bronson Fla.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Donald Ray Walker

Donald Ray Walker, 74, of Huntington passed away Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004 in St. Marys Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted Monday, Nov. 22, 2004, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel Barboursville, by the Rev. Jerry Chapman. Burial in Green Valley Cemetery. He was born April 20, 1930, in Salt Rock, a son of the late Robert and Verlie Cremans Walker. He was a retired employee of Blenko Glass and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was preceded in death by one son, Mark Walker. He is survived by one son, Brian Walker; one sister, Mrs. Sharrell (Lillian) Lovejoy of Hamlin and Gary Walker of Salt Rock.

Paul G. Stephens

Paul G. Stephens, 83, of Nitro went home to be with the Lord Nov. 21, 2004, in Teays Valley Nursing Center.

Mr. Stephens was retired from Royal Crown Bottling Company and was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Rock Branch Independent Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Stephens.

He is survived by his daughter, Debra Mallory of Nitro; Doyle Stephens of Lorain, Ohio; sisters, Thelma Withrow of Poca, Gwen Harris of Nitro and Marjorie Cook of Hurricane; and two grandchildren, Misty and Jason Mallory.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, November 24, 2004 at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Basil Hudson officiating. Burial in Grandview Cemetery, Red House.

Carmel Burgess

Mrs. Carmel Burgess, 81, of Hurricane, WV, died Nov. 22, 2004, at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston, after a short illness.

She was a homemaker and a member of Winfield Community Church, Winfield, WV, and a lifelong resident of Putnam County, WV.

Mrs. Burgess was preceded in death by her husband, Nathaniel J. Burgess; grandson, Matthew; parents, Jess and Barbara Bower Severt; brothers, Jones Severt, Wiley Severt, Dave Severt and Lee Severt.

Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Kim Burgess of Teays Valley, Stephen and Lisa Burgess of Charleston; daughters and son-in-law, Connie and Allen Holstein of Madison, WV., Regenia Burgess of Nitro; sisters, Mae Clay of Saulsville, WV, Edna Ferguson of St. Albans; brother, David Severt of Beckley; grandchildren, Bryan, Adam, Ashley, and Jessica; and special friend, Mary Hudson.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to second-floor staff at Thomas Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Friday, November 26, 2004, at Chapman Funeral Home Chapel, Hurricane, WV with the Rev. Mike Rader officiating. Burial in Forest Memorial Park, Milton, WV. Online condolences may be made at www.chapmanfuneralhomes.com.

Chapman Funeral Home, 2941 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane, was in charge of arrangements.
