Nancy Jane Smith

Miss Nancy Jane Smith, 71, of Huntington, passed away at Mariner Health Center of Huntington on December 27, 2004. She was born November 11, 1933, in Cabell County, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Lewis P. and Pearl Harris Smith. She graduated from Barboursville High School and was a retired beautician of 37 years and served longest with Flair Beauty Salon. She was a member of Highlawn Baptist Church. Nancy is survived by two sisters, Edith Cook of St. Albans and Irma Adkins of Huntington; one brother, Marvin Lee Smith of Huntington; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff of Mariner Health Care Center and Cabell Dialysis for their care and concern. Services were held Thursday, December 30, 2004 at Henson Mortuary with Rev. Richard Sexton officiating. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville.

William C. “Bill” Sowards

Mr. William C. “Bill” Sowards, 87, of Barboursville, husband of Lucille Lane Sowards, died Monday, December 27, 2004 in Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, December 30, 2004 at Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington. Burial in Ridgelawn Memorial Park, Huntington. He was a retired salesperson with Sears. Additional survivors include several nieces and nephews.

David W. Lawhon

David W. Lawhon, 53, of Barboursville, passed away Monday, December 27, 2004, at home. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, December 30, 2004, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel, Barboursville by Rev. Zachary Bills. Burial in Oaklawn Memorial Park, Barboursville. He was born November 9, 1951, in Lincoln County, West Virginia, a son of the late William Lawhon Sr. and Betty Berry Lawhon. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Alberts Lawhon; one son, Joshua David Lawhon of Barboursville; one sister, Kelley Curry of Barboursville; and three brothers, Jeff, Greg and Rod Lawhon, all of Barboursville.

K. Eric Sindy

K. Eric Sindy, 35, of Milton, passed away Sunday, December 26, 2004, in St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, December 30, 2004, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with Pastor Doug Bragg officiating. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. He was born June 7, 1969, in Huntington, W.Va., a son of Sondra Sindy Dawson of Barboursville and the late William F. Sindy. He was also preceded in death by his father, Hobert “Jim” Dawson and his nephew, Joseph Taylor Corbett. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Robin Adkins Sindy; one son, Joshua Eric Sindy; daughter, Shannon Marie Sindy; two sisters, Tina Fulks of Teays Valley and her companion H.R. Powers and Janette Dawson of Proctorville, Ohio and her companion, Stan Griffith; father and mother-in-law, Ernie and Violet Adkins of Milton; two sisters-in-law, Catherine and Cliff Begley of Jacksonville, Fla., and Cindy and Daniel Pinterich of Huntington; brother-in-law, Mark Adkins of Jacksonville, Fla., special friends, Mike, Sara, Grant, Jamie and Seth Stratton; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, co-workers and other friends and family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sindy Family Fund at any Huntington Area Postal Federal Credit Union, 500 Virginia Ave., Huntington, WV 25701.

Estell Clifton Bell

Estell Clifton Bell, 87 of Valparaiso, Ind., formerly of Milton passed away Tuesday, December 28, 2004, in Lawrenceville, Ga. Funeral services were conducted Friday, December 31, 2004, at the Milton United Methodist Church with Pastor Joseph Jarrett and the Rev. Keith Leap officiating. Burial followed in Milton Cemetery. He was born October 4, 1917 in Bowling Green, Ky., a son of the late Thomas and Connie Frazier Bell. He was also preceded in death by his former wife, Irene P. Bell; three brothers and two sisters. Mr. Bell was a member of Milton United Methodist Church. He is survived by four daughters and three sons-in-law, Connie E. Bell of Birmingham, Ala., Phyllis and Harold Hertrick of Bradenton, Fla., Sharon K. and Michael Mays of Chicago, Ill., and Paula and Jo Gantt of Lawrenceville, Ga.; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Helen G. Stover

Helen G. Stover, 76, of Ona died Tuesday, December 29, 2004 in St Mary's Medical Center. She was a beautician. Survivors include a daughter, Linda Cate, and a son Rod Cate, both of California; two sisters, Donna Adkins of Barboursville and Dollie Wilson of Proctorville, Ohio; and a great-grandsons, Marselo Aguayo of Huntington. There were no services.

Kenneth W. Ferguson

Kenneth W. Ferguson, 77 of Barboursville, WV, passed away December 28, 2004. Funeral services were held Friday, December 31, 2004, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel, Barboursville, by Rev. Michael Rowe. Entombment in Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington. He was born August 3, 1927, a son of the late Early W. and Mahala Cremeans Ferguson. He was preceded in death by one sister, Norma L. Tuff. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Kenneth was a 52-year member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local #248, Ashland, Ky., a member of Dillon Chapel United Methodist Church, Minerva Lodge #13, AF&AM Barboursville, RAM #10 Guyandotte, Beni Kedem Shrine, Charleston, WV, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Huntington. He is survived by his wife, Joan C. Ferguson; daughter, Deborah L. Ferguson of Kentucky; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas E. and Susan Ferguson of Huntington; grandson, Michael A. Hatfield and his wife Chandelle of Virginia and their children, Heath Hatfield, Cheridan Hatfield and Carlee Grace Hatfield, all of Virginia; granddaughter, Jamie Nichols of Kentucky; sisters, Winnie Himlepp of Kentucky, Jenny Clay and her husband Red of Huntington; brothers, Glen Ferguson and his wife Naomi of Florida, Jerry Ferguson and his wife Jan of West Hamlin and Hugha Ferguson and his wife Alice, Salt Rock. Contributions may be made to Dillon Chapel United Methodist Church in memory of Kenneth. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, was in charge of arrangements.

Harold Keith Markins

Harold Keith Markins, 69, of Fort Mitchell, Ky., formerly of Barboursville, WV, went home to be with the Lord December 12, 2004 in St. Elizabeth Med Center.

He was the son of the late Albert and Louise Markins and was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Maret and son Keith Markins Jr; four sisters, Thelma Fellure, Janie Arbaugh, Marie Fouch, Greta Swann and one brother Kenneth Markins.

He was a retired police officer for Huntington, WV, and Richmond, Va., and a deputy officer for Cincinnati, Ohio.

He was also an Army Veteran of the Korean War and a member of the American Legion, Lexington.

Survivors include his devoted and loving wife, Beulah Markins; a precious loving daughter, Sheila Vance of Florence, Ky.; a sister, Dorothy Camper of Cincinnati, Ohio; Four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren. He also leaves many nieces and nephews that loved him dearly. He was a kind-hearted loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend and will be sadly missed by all who knew him - his smile and memories will remain in our hearts forever.

Elevena Chapman

Elevena Chapman, 79, of Milton went home to be with her Lord after a long illness with cancer on Thursday, December 30, 2004, at her residence. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, January 2, 2005, at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with Rev. Ray Sovine and Rev. Joe Dolen officiating. Burial in Staton Chapel Cemetery, Milton. Elevena was born May 25, 1925, a daughter of the late Leland Stanford and Mabel Smith Meadows. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Chapman; six brothers and four sisters. She is survived by three daughters, Linda Reynolds, Lorine Shull, and Serena Hibner; six sons, Charles Chapman, Larry Chapman, Keith Chapman, Otho Chapman, Darrell Chapman and Ronnie Chapman; a sister, Irene Keese of Milton; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family would also like to thank Hospice of Point Pleasant and Dr. Oakley, Dr. Carrico and Dr. Revell and all the friends and family who have lent their support. Heck Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements.

Stewart Allan Chapman Jr.

Stewart Allan Chapman Jr., 30, of Milton, passed away December 30, 2004. Funeral services were conducted Monday, January 3, 2005 at the Wallace Funeral Home, Milton by Pastor Jerry Cline and Pastor Paul Meadows. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. He was born December 21, 1974, in Huntington, a son of Stewart Chapman, Sr. of Huntington, and Patricia Blankenship Mount, of Ona. Also surviving are his wife, Kerri Cochran Chapman; one daughter, Emilie Chapman; three sons, Tristan, Logan and Pierce Chapman; one brother, Matthew Chapman of Barboursville; two stepsisters, Kim Zimmerman of Virginia, and Kathy Adkins of Yawkey, WV; one stepbrother, Shawn Mount of Ona; sister-in-law, Jaime Spangler of Milton; stepfather, Michael Mount of Ona; maternal grandparents, Lee and Thelma Blankenship of Barboursville; paternal grandmother, Neva Chapman of Ohio, paternal great-grandmother, Gertrude Kimball of Huntington; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Wallace Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements.

Joseph Edward Hall

Joseph Edward Hall, 38, of Hurricane, W.Va., passed away Friday, December 31, 2004. Graveside services were conducted Tuesday, January 4, 2005, at Peach Ridge Cemetery. He was born June 6,1966, in Milton, a son of Teddy Delano Hall of Hurricane and Dottie Mullins Legg of Barboursville. He is survived by his wife, Kimila Cieska Hall; one daughter, Breanna Jo Hall of South Carolina; three brothers, Gregory Allen Hall of Barboursville, Charles Lewis Hall of Jacksonville, Fla., and Michael Lee Hall of Hurricane; paternal grandmother, Hallie M. Hall of Hurricane. Wallace Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements.

Ernie E. Mays

Ernie E. Mays, 55 of Huntington, passed away Friday, December 31, 2004, in St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, January 4, 2005. at Heck Funeral Home, Milton, with Pastor Gary Hayes and Pastor Troy Nicely officiating. Burial in Balls Gap Cemetery. Ernie was born December 15, 1949, a son of the late Ira Trenton Mays and Clarcia Jackson Mays of Huntington. He is also preceded in death by two sisters, Janice Mays and Myrtle Mays. He is survived by two brothers, Eugene Mays and twin brother, Bernie Mays; four sisters, Betty Tanner, Eva Wilkinson, Bertha Bailey and Brenda Jackson; and several nieces and nephews. Ernie served his country for 20 years in the United States Army. Heck Funeral Home, Milton, was in charge of arrangements.

Al Wooten

Al Wooten, 58, of Huntington, passed away Wednesday, December 29, 2004. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, January 1, 2005, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel by Elder Emual Adkins and Elder Eric Adkins. Burial in Adkins Family Cemetery. He was born July 2, 1946 in Wayne County, West Virginia, a son of Beatrice Adkins Wooten of Huntington and Ervin Wooten of East Lynn, W.Va. He was a retired employee of INCO, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a member of Happy Hollow Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys Wooten. Survivors include two brothers, Dan Wooten and his wife Jeanie of Piketon, Ohio and Freddie Wooten of Huntington; a godson, Marques Thompson of Huntington; several nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the doctors and staff at St. Mary's Medical Center and to Dr. Eugenia Jarrell, Kyle Webb, and the staff at Wayne Continuous Care.

Hugh T. Adams

Hugh T. Adams, aged 60, prominent and life long resident of Tyler County, died Wednesday, July 22, 1942 at his home in Wick. He had been in failing health for several years and seriously ill for the past several weeks. He was the son of the late Joseph and Sarah Adams and was a retired employee of the Hope Natural Gas company for which he had worked for the past 33 years. He was united in marriage July 21st, 1904 to Miss Nellie Johnson, of Arvilla. He is survived by his wife, a daughter Mrs. F.T. Campbell, of Parkersburg; two sons, Harold I. Adams of Morgantown, and D.E. Adams, of Wheeling. Also four brothers, one sister and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at the residence in Wick with the Rev. Carl B. Johnson, of Parkersburg officiating. Burial will be made in the Greenwood Cemetery at Sistersville.

Orie G. Adams

Adams, Orie G., 73, of Friendly, died Friday, June 27, 1980, at home. He was a member of the Point Lookout United Methodist Church and a retired employee of the Colin Anderson Center, St. Marys and the Weirton Steel Division. He was preceded in death by a son, Gerald in 1973. Surviving are his wife, Fanny G. Mott Adams; three daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Marilyn) Brown of Eaton, OH, Mrs. Eula (Fern) Carse of Friendly, Mrs. Clyde (Iola) Brammer of Vienna, WV; two sons, Orie Jr. and Joe, both of Weirton; two brothers, Dale of Follansbee and Gordon of East Liverpool; nine sisters, Mrs. Evelyn Nicholson of Marietta, OH, Mrs. Olive Barlow of Moundsville, Mrs. Dorothy Nolan, Miss Ida Adams, and Mrs. Grace Smith all of St. Marys, WV, and Mrs. Velma Haymond of Harriman, TN; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. Interment in Adams Cemetery on Point Lookout Ridge.

Georgia G. Allman

Allman, Georgia G., 72, of Shiloh, died November 7, 1964 at Indianapolis, IN. She was born August 31, 1892 in Tyler County, a daughter of Joseph and Nancy Wilson Smith and was preceded in death by her husband, Charles. Surviving are one son, John of Indianapolis; one sister, Mrs. Creed Ferrall of Akron, OH; three brothers, Carter of East Liverpool, Dewey of Shiloh, and Harry of Middlebourne; and two grandchildren. Burial in Akron, Ohio.

Mary Eileen Ankrom Anderson

Anderson, Mary Eileen Ankrom, 77, of Doolin Route, New Martinsville, formerly of Sistersville, died Sunday, November ??, 1987, in Reynolds Memorial Hospital, Glen Dale. She was a member of the Sistersville Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph in 1969. Surviving are a son, John of Albany, CA; two grandsons, Eric of Reno, NV and Shea of Santa Cruz, CA; a granddaughter, Brett of Reno. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery, Sistersville.

Harold Mayfield Ankrom

Harold Mayfield Ankrom, 46, of Sistersville, died suddenly May 1962 at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at his home, 119 Thistle Avenue. Born Jan. 18, 1916 he was a son of the late James and Virgie Mayfield Ankrom. He was a World War II veteran, a member of the Sistersville Methodist Church, Elks Lodge 333, and American Legion Post 67. He was employed as a welder for the Ormet Corp. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mary Johnson Ankrom; a son, Harold Eugene, at home; a sister, Mrs. Mary Anderson of Shiloh, WV. Friends were received at the Campbell-Frame Funeral Home, Sistersville, where services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Leonard Reckart of the Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in Greenwood cemetery. Elks Lodge 333 conducted special services at 7:15 p.m. Monday.

Levi Ankrom

Levi Ankrom, one of the oldest citizens in Tyler County, died at his home in Middlebourne on the 4th of July in his 92nd year. His exact age was 92 years, 4 months and 4 days. His death was due to old age. Mr. Ankrom was born at Waynesburg, Pa in 1816 and with his parents moved to Middlbourne. He was a resident of Middlebourne for 80 years and was practically known to every citizen of that county. He was the father of 11 children of which three survive, T.S. Ankrom of Logan, Kansas; Mrs. James P. Mason of Middlebourne and William Ankrom of this city. The funeral services were held Sunday evening and were largely attended. Interment was made in the Middlebourne cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. William Ankrom and children of this city attended the services. 1908

Missouri Belle Ankrom

Ankrom, At her home at Alma, Monday afternoon, March 13, 1922, death came to Mrs. Rymer Ankrom after a few days illness from heart failure. Mrs. Missouri Belle Ankrom was born at Wick, Tyler County, WV, May 18, 1864, a daughter of the late Jessie and Elizabeth Morris Ankrom. She was married to M.R. Ankrom on October 22, 1882 and to this union were six children, five of whom survive her. They are Guy at home; Mrs. Hattie Raiguel of Sistersville; Mrs. Jessie Jemison of this place; Miss Zelma a teacher in the Wierton schools; Miss Ila a student in Marshall College, Huntington and Ella deceased. She is also survived by her husband and aged mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Kearns of Alma. Mrs. Ankrom was a granddaughter of two pioneer families of Tyler County. The Ankrom families being among the early settlers and her grandfather James T. Morris being one of the very prominent settlers of this section. At the age of 16 years she united with the Baptist church of which she has remained a faithful member. She was a devoted mother and a woman of much influence in the community where she lived. Impressive funeral services were held at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, near her home, Wednesday by her former pastor, Rev. A. Dye and the interment was in Beechwood Cemetery, Alma.

Guy Ankrom

Ankrom, Guy, 85, Alma, WV Died Tuesday {APRIL 22, 1969}in ST. Joseph's Hospital at Parkersburg. He was born at Center Point, WV, Aug. 13, 1883, Son of the late M.R. and Missouri B. Ankrom. Surviving are two sisiters, Mrs. Todd (Jessie) Keith of Harrisville, WV; Mrs. Blake (Ila) Ayer of Buchannon; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters. Friends will be recieved at the Furbee Funeral Home in Alma after 2 P.M. Today where services will be held at 2 P.M. Tomorrow with the Rev. Richard Smearman Officiating. Interment in Beechwood Cemetery, Alma.

Helen B. Ankrom

Helen B. Ankrom, 82, of RD 1, Middlebourne, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998 at home. She was a member of Lazear's Chapel United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband William e. Ankrom in 1982.; her parents Albert and Rosa Hawkins Harter; three brothers, four sisters. Surviving are five sons, Oliver Thomas of Sistersville, Frank, Brady, John and Roger all of Middlebourne; three daughters, Mary Foor of Magnolia, Ohio; Nellie Wilson and Betty Haught both of Middlebourne; a brother, Louis Harter of Canton; three sisters, Geneva Posten of Akron, Dora Conner of Mineral Wells, WV and Garnett Conklin of Sistersville; 18 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren. Friends received 7-9 p.m. today at Myers Funeral Home, Sistersville, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Interment in Lazear's Chapel Cemetery, near Middlebourne.

Martin Rymer Ankrom

Martin Rymer Ankrom, retired farmer who would have been 81 years old April 6, died Friday, March 20, 1942 at his home at Centerville, Tyler County, after a three months illness. Funeral services were held at the Centerville Baptist Church at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon and burial was made in the Beechwood cemetery. Mr. Ankrom was born at Blue, April 6, 1861, the son of the late Jonathan and Michel Thomas Ankrom. His wife, Mrs. Missouri Ankrom is deceased. There survive the following children: Guy Ankrom at home; Mrs. G.C. Clark of Richmond, Ind.; Mrs. Todd W. Keith of Harrisville; Mrs. Virgil Duff of Weirton; and Mrs. Blake Ayer of New York. Mrs. Flora Roberts of Iuka is a sister, and Boody Ankrom of Cabin Creek a brother. He had served as a member on the Tyler county court and was president of the Board of Education when the Tyler County High School building was erected.
