Homer Jemison

Homer Jemison died Monday in Cleveland Clinic: A feeling of deep sadness was experienced by the citizens of Middlebourne Monday night when a telephone message was received here that Homer Bussy Jemison had passed away at 7:30 o'clock in the Clinic hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, where he had submitted to a operation about two weeks previous. He was reported to be much improved following the operation and it was thought here that he was on the road to recovery, and the first information of his sudden turn for the worse received here was when his family was notified of his serious condition by his physician and they were asked to hurry to his bedside. His wife and children left here at once that they might be with him. Mr. Jemison was a son of the late Newton and Mary Crumrine Jemison, long time residents of this part of Tyler County. His entire life had been spent in Middlebourne, and he enjoyed a wide circle of friends here and in Tyler County. For a number of years he has been a member of the firm of the Home Store Co., and one of the obliging clerks of the firm. By his courteous treatment of the firm's customers, he had continued to maintain old friends and add new ones. He was aged at the time of his death, 59 years, three months and 17 days. Mrs. Mary Anne Jemison

Peacefully and quietly, in accord with the gentle home life that she lived, Mrs. Mary Anne Jemison passed away at 7:00 o'clock Friday morning at her residence in Middlebourne. Mrs. Jemison had been in failing health for some time from heart disease and complications, but the fatal attack came about two weeks ago. It is significant that her death occurred on Oct. 6 and on the third anniversary of the death of her well beloved son Creel who lost his life in a gas explosion. She was born in Washington county, PA, the daughter of the late John and Lydia Horn Crumrine. The mother died in Pennsylvania and the father passed away on the home farm near Middlebourne on Christmas Day, 1885. She came to Tyler county with her father and family and on September 21, 1865, became the wife of William Newton Jemison, who died December 15, 1901. Their eldest child Lydia died at the age of 16 years and Creel was killed in an explosion a few years ago. The surviving children are: Mrs. John F. Shore, Mrs. Charles E. Riggle, Clyde, Homer, Ernest and Lawrence Jemison. Her father John Crumrine was married three times: the children of the first marriage having been: Isaiah, deceased, Mrs. Jemison and Mrs. John Mason; of the second marriage, Abraham, deceased, John Crumrine, Mrs. Maria Courtney and Mrs. J.B. Jemison; the late Mrs. C.W. Gregg was the only child of the third union. About the time of her marriage she became a member of the Middlebourne Baptist church and truly exemplified the character. Quiet and domestic in her tastes and devoted to her home and family, yet Mrs. Jemison had a fund of humor and wit that entertained and pleased. No woman of our community was held in higher esteem and genuinely liked by all for her splendid womanly qualities and charity of mind and deeds. The successful results of her motherhood are seen in the family of fine men and women whom she trained by precept and example to be good and useful citizens. The entire community sincerely mourns the death of this noble woman. The funeral services at the late home were held by her pastor A.A. Dye, who was assisted by Dr. S.P. Crummett on Sunday afternoon and numbers assembled as a tribute of respect and affection. The interment followed in Greenwood {Middlebourne} cemetery where the remains were laid in full confidence of the resurrection and eternal life with the Master whom she had so faithfully and truly served.
