Ersel B. Kimble

KEYSER - Ersel B. Kimble, 84, 121 James Street, Keyser, died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, at Potomac Valley Hospital.

Born May 1, 1916 in Keyser, he was a son of the late Adam J. and Hannah S. (Judy) Kimble.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Bunice Kimble, and a sister, Belva Kimble.

Mr. Kimble was a retired brakeman with the Chessie System Railroad with 36 years of service. He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, Keyser, Davis Lodge 51, A.F. & A.M., Scottish Rite Bodies, and the United Transportation Union.

A 60-year member of the Keyser Volunteer Fire Department, he was also a member of the Cumberland Valley Volunteer Firemen's Association and the West Virginia Firemen's Association.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Ruth V. (Keplinger) Kimble; three daughters, Sharon Junkins and husband Robert, Charlene Parrill and husband Raymond, and Marlene Rice and husband David, all of Keyser; a sister, Beulah Moomau, Keyser; five grandchildren, Chris Junkins, Kim Riley and husband David, Judy Ravenscroft and husband David, Chip Parrill and wife Kathy, and Nathan Rice and wife Dana; and eight great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Smith Funeral Home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Sue Culbertson Jarrett officiating.

Interment will be in Queen's Point cemetery, Keyser.

The Keyser Volunteer Fire Department will conduct a memorial service at the funeral home today at 7 p.m.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Grace United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 40, Keyser, W.Va. 26726.

Raymond L. McCarty

KEYSER - Raymond L. McCarty, 60, 1415 Ludwick St., Keyser, died Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, at Potomac Valley Hospital.

Born June 5, 1940, in Westernport, Md., he was a son of the late Lester and Thelma (Lambert) McCarty.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Mr. McCarty was employed at the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company with over 19 years of service until its closure.

He was then employed for 12 years as a school bus driver with the Mineral County Board of Education, first as a substitute driver, then as a full-time driver.

A 1958 graduate of the former Valley High School in Lonaconing, Md., he was a member of the First Baptist Church, Keyser, and Davis Lodge 51, A.F. & A.M., Keyser.

Surviving are his wife of 31 years, Freda L. (Raines) McCarty; two daughters, Donna L. McCarty, Baltimore, Md., and Tammy R. Krystofiak, Winchester, Va.; and two grandchildren, John Krystofiak and Brian Purdy.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Smith Funeral Home on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. C. Waco Biser officiating.

Interment will be in Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.

Davis Lodge 51, A.F. & A.M., will accord graveside Masonic rites.

Thomas Hubbard, Sr.

SEMINOLE, Fla. - Thomas M. Hubbard, Sr., 82, Seminole, Fla., died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, at Largo Medical Center, Largo, Fla.

Born Nov. 17, 1917, in Roanoke, Va., he was a son of the late Clara (Goff) and Reginald Hubbard.

He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Violet Geneva (Martin) Hubbard on June 27, 1986.

Mr. Hubbard was a retired warehouse worker with Koppers Company, Baltimore, with 20 years of service.

He was also retired as a gunnery sergeant after 30 years in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict.

He was a member of Post 9272 VFW and the Post's Honor Guard; and Elks Lodge 2519, all of Seminole, and the Korean War Veterans Association.

Surviving are his wife, Alice (Knoerlein) Hubbard; two sons, Thomas M. Hubbard, Jr., Pottstown, Pa., and John R. Hubbard, Reading, Pa.; a daughter, Katherine Hubbard, Chesapeake, Va.; two step-daughters, Alice Baylor, York, Pa., and Lois Strock, Big Isle, Va.; a sister, Helen Lee, Maryland; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be conducted at the Mineral Baptist cemetery, Keyser, today at 2 p.m. with Pastor Scott Uhlenhopp officiating.

Military honors will be accorded and interment will follow.

The Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, is in charge of arrangements.

Shirley Ann Bauer

BAUER, SHIRLEY ANN, 57, Rt. 2, Box 234-C, Keyser, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, at her residence.

Funeral services were held in the Smith Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, with Pastor Jerry Eisenhour officiating.

Interment was in Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.

Pallbearers were: Steve Parish, Bill Parish, Lyle Heavener, Charlie Cook, Richard Burns and Roger Kunkle.

Susan F. (King) Boatman

Susan F. (King) Boatman, 90, of Route 3, Box 346, Patterson Creek, Ridgeley, died Saturday, October 14, 2000, at Sacred Heart Hospital.

Born Dec. 24, 1910, in Deer Park, Md., she was the daughter of the late Abraham K. and Alice (Poland) King.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. Boatman, in 1980; and one son, Ernest Boatman.

Mrs. Boatman had worked in the Spinning Department at the Celanese Corporation. She was a homemaker and enjoyed working in her flower garden.

Survivors include her daughter, Dolores "Dee" B. May, at home; one son, Darell Lee Boatman and wife Colleen, Ridgeley; one sister, Elizabeth Dodge and husband, Orval "Bob," Oakland, Md.; a daughter-in-law, Carol Boatman Madonia and husband Frank, Lime, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Jeffrey Boatman and wife Mary, Greg Boatman and wife Jackie, Leah Ann Fish and husband Wayne, all of Lima, Ohio, Cheri Virtue and husband Robert of Deluth, Ga., Glenda Wamsley and husband Charlie, Belington, Jody Boatman, Terra Alta, Jamie Boatman and wife Leigh Ann, Oakland, and Michael May and wife Kathy, Highland, Ca; 17 great-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Inc., Route 28, Fort Ashby, on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

The funeral service will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Darrell S. Tichinel officiating.

Interment will be in Fort Ashby cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to either the Patterson Creek Volunteer Fire Department, Route 3, Box 305, Patterson Creek, W.Va. 26753, or the Fort Ashby Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 1110, Fort Ashby, W.Va. 26719.

Eithel M. Spiker

Eithel M. Spiker, 89, of HC 72, Box 70, New Creek, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at the Heartland of Keyser Nursing Home.

Born on April 12, 1911, at Bayard, she was a daughter of the late William and Annabelle (Holloway) Manks. She also was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters. Mrs. Spiker was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Mrs. Spiker was a loving, devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a homemaker and worked alongside her husband with the family farm. She was Protestant by faith.

Surviving are her husband of 70 years, Vernon C. Spiker; two sons, Gerald R. Spiker and wife Carole, Grafton; and Leonard W. Spiker and wife Peggy, Elk Garden; two daughters, Ann C. Myers and husband Donald, Keyser, and Donna M. Hammons and husband Roger, Keyser; 18 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Tuesday at 11 a.m., with Pastor Gwen Wolford and Pastor Randall Larry officiating.

Interment will be in the Bayard cemetery, Bayard.

Elsie Christina Lease

Elsie Christina Lease, 98, of Route 1 Elk Garden, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000 at Hampshire Memorial Hospital, Romney.

Born July 21, 1902, she was the daughter of the late John William and Christina (Snyder) Ours.

Her husband, James U. Clise in 1982, a daughter Adrian M. Dixon and 11 and brothers and sisters also preceded her in death. She was the last survivor of her immediate family.

Mrs. Clise was a homemaker and a member of Sulpher Methodist Church.

Surviving are two sons, James D. Clise of Westminster, Md. and Donald K. Clise of Romney, 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.

Services will be conducted at the Boal Funeral Home at 1 p.m., Tuesday.

Interment will be in Philos cemetery, Westernport, Md.

Ida Mae Robey

ROBEY, IDA MAE, 91, formerly of South Water Street, Keyser, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, at the Heartland of Keyser Nursing Home. Funeral services were conducted in the Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Keyser, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, with Pastor Dwight Ramsey officiating. Interment was in the Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser. Pallbearers were: Carl Streets, Mark Streets, Andy Streets, Harold Sherwood, Mike Sherwood and Mike Werner.

Betty J. Dinteman

KEYSER - Betty Jean Dinteman, 77, of 429 N. Main St., Keyser, died on Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at Potomac Valley Hospital after a long battle with cancer and emphysema.

Born Oct. 4, 1923, at Keyser, she was the daughter of the late Leonard "Gene" and Margaret Mae (Armentrout) Cross. She also was preceded in death by her brother, Donald L. Cross and her aunt, Hazel Armentrout.

Mrs. Dinteman taught in Mineral County Schools for 40 years, starting in Patterson Creek and then Short Gap. She was a first grade teacher in Piedmont for 29 years ending her teaching career in Elk Garden in 1993. Even after retirement, Mrs. Dinteman continued to work as a substitute teacher and as an instructor for the Outdoor Education Program. She was involved with the Outdoor Education from its inception in 1971 and continued to teach in the program for the next 18 years. In 1976, she was named Outstanding Soil Conservation Educator for the five-county area of the Potomac Valley Soil Conservation. She was a graduate of Potomac State College, Shepherd College and did graduate work at West Virginia University.

She was a member of the Keyser Presbyterian Church, Mineral County Historical Society, Retired WV Teachers Association and the Audubon Society. She had a love for music and sang in Keyser Presbyterian Choir, Potomac State Choir, and was active in Keyser's Little Theater. She sang for Dr. Peter Marshall when he visited in Keyser. She also loved the outdoors and participated in cross country skiing, bird watching and biking.

Surviving are one son, James M. Dinteman of California; one daughter, Shelby L. Redondo & husband, Antonio of Los Alamos, N. M.; one sister, Constance G. Bishop & husband, Col. Robert Bishop of Augusta, Ga.; and one daughter-in-law, Monica K. Dinteman of Fla. She is also survived by her five grandchildren: Che and Tylor Dinteman, Tomas, Michael and Rebecca Redondo and her three nieces: Sherri Doenges, Terri Timm, Lynne Bird and their families.

Friends were received at the Markwood Funeral Home, Keyser, on Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001, from 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral Services will be conducted at the Keyser Presbyterian Church on today at 11:00 a.m. with the Dr. Gary S. Eller officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in Queens Point cemetery, Keyser.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Mineral County Historical Society, C/O Frank Roleff, Rt. 1, Box 136, New Creek, W.Va. 26743.

Vada B. Michael

KEYSER - Vada B. Michael, 86, of 133 State St., Keyser, died on Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001, at her residence.

Born Oct. 26, 1914, in Metz, she was the daughter of the late Luther and Della (Kerns) Rice. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Dale Rice, a sister, Evelyn West and a grandson, Michael McElfresh.

Mrs. Michael was a homemaker. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and former Sunday school Teacher of the fifth & sixth grades and former Cub Scout Den Mother.

Surviving are her husband, William "Mike" E. Michael; one son, Melvin W. Michael and wife, Sheila, Andover, Ohio; one daughter, Helen R. McElfresh, Clearfield, Penn.; two brothers, Wayne Rice and wife Eva, North Carolina and Robert Rice, Ohio; one sister, Ruth Alkire and husband, Duke of George; five grandchildren, Douglas S. and Amanda S. McElfresh, Matthew, Stephanie and Daniel Michael.

Friends will be received at the Markwood Funeral Home, Keyser, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Services will be conducted at the Markwood Funeral Home on Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001, at 11a.m. with the Rev. Samuel E. Starling Jr. officiating.

Interment will be in Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.

If desired, memorial donations may be made to W.E. Michael Scholarship Fund, C/O Potomac State College, Keyser, W.Va. 26726.
