Christopher J. Arnold

MABIE -- Christopher J. Arnold, 28, of Mabie, died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2001 as the result of an automobile accident near Moorefield.

Born on Oct. 27, 1972 in Baltimore, Md., he is the son of Roy J. and Teresa F. (Smith) Arnold, Oakland, Md. Twin daughters, Stephanie Ann Arnold and Tiffany Cheyenne Arnold, and his paternal grandmother, who died Aug. 14, 2001, preceded him in death.

Mr. Arnold was the call center manager for PowerTel, Keyser.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Rachel A. (Smith) Arnold; one daughter Hailie Arnold, at home; one son, Austin Arnold, at home; two brothers, Heath J. Arnold, Oakland, and Dylan J. Arnold, Mountain Lake Park, Md.; paternal grandfather, Roy C. Arnold, Oakland; maternal grandparents, Ray Smith, Hendricks, Md., and Ellen Anstine, Baltimore; and maternal step-grandmother, Elouise Smith, Hendricks.

Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, 32 S. Second St., Oakland, from 7 to 9 p.m. today. Services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, Aug. 21 at 9 a.m. with Rev. Charles Arnold officiating.

Interment will be in the Zirkle cemetery, Cassidy, where an interment service will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

Richard L. Flanagan

Richard L. Flanagan, 71, of Romney, died Monday, Oct. 23, 2000, at Hampshire Center, Romney.

Born Oct. 4, 1929, at Rawlings, Md., he was the son of the late Ollie and Ethel Landis Flanagan.

He is survived by two sons, Jerry Flanagan and wife Barb, Cumberland, Md. and Rick Flanagan and wife Debbie, Cumberland; one daughter, Peggy Davis; one brother, Elwood Flanagan, Toledo, Ohio; one sister, Louise Dom; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and a special friend, Ruby Ganoe, Romney.

Friends will be received at the Shaffer Funeral Home on Tuesday, Oct. 24 from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, with the Rev. Benny Smith officiating.

Interment will be at Ebenezer cemetery, Romney.

Joanne H. Haines

Joanne H. Haines, 61, of Manassas, Va., died Friday, Oct. 20, 2000, at her residence.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Haines, Manassas; her children, Richard Haines Jr. and wife Sandra, Bealeton, Douglas Haines and wife Bonnie, Manassas, Teresa Jones and husband Paul, Bealeton, and Robert Haines and wife Diane, Bealeton; three brothers, Buddy Hipp, Mount Storm; Dale Hipp, Haiti, Gary Hipp, Chatham; four sisters, Wanda Golas, Baltimore, Peggy Harvey, Emoryville, Janet Sayers, Baltimore and Dottie Durst, Emoryville; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was held on Monday, Oct. 23, 2000, at the Lee Funeral Home, Va.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Virginia Division, Inc., Northern Virginia Area, 124 Park St. S.E., P.O. Box 699, Vienna, Va. 22183-0699 in memory of JoAnne Haines.

Ruth Wells Romig

Ruth Wells Romig, 93, a long-time resident of Keyser and Baltimore died on Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000, at Green Tree Ridge Nursing Home, Ashville, N.C., where she had lived for the past four years.

Funeral Services were held on Sunday, Oct. 22, 2000, at 2 p.m. at the Markwood Funeral Home, Keyser, with the Rev. Jack Sanders officiating. Pallbearers were Rick Romig, Matt Lenhart, Del Lenhart, John Pulsifer, Milton April and John Meadows.

Interment was in the Queens Point cemetery, Keyser.

Marian E. Talmage

TALMAGE, MARIAN E. 78, of Rt. 1 Box 138-A-1, Keyser, died Friday, Oct. 20, 2000, at the Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at the Church of the Assumption, Keyser, at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 23, 2000, with Father Ivan M. Lebar, T.O.R., as celebrant. Interment was in the St. Thomas cemetery, Keyser. Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were: Carl Talmage, William Talmage, Joe Corallo, George Elliott, Carl Talmage Jr. and Marty Nester.

Delbert J. Streets

STREETS, DELBERT J., 64, of Rt. 2, Box 35, Burlington, died Friday, Oct. 20, 2000, at the Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser. Funeral services were conducted in the Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Burlington, at 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 23, 2000, with Pastor Glen Hamric officiating. Interment was in the Bloomington cemetery, Bloomington, Md. Pallbearers were: Chris Clayton, T.J. Clayton, Tom Cole, Tommy Cole, Anthony Hamzeh, D.J. Streets, David Martin and Cass Martin.

Margaret Rawlings

TACOMA, Wash. - Margaret Close Rawlings, 85, died Wednesday, March 21, 2001 at the Orchard Park Nursing Home, Tacoma, Wash.

Born Feb. 18, 1916, in Emeryville, she was the daughter of the late Edward C. Close and Hattie (Hottinger) Close. She was also preceded in death be her husband, Leonard M. Rawlings.

Surviving are three sons, Lorentz R. Rawlings and wife, Charlotte, Keyser, Leonard C. Rawlings and wife, Wilma, Fountain Valley, Calif., and Shearn M. Rawlings of Casa Grande, Ariz.; one daughter, Pamela K. Noyes and husband, Michael, Lake Bay Wash.; one brother, Charles Close and wife, Audrey, Roseburg, Ore.; nine grandchildren, Deborah Sayers, Brenda Rawlings, Donna Glesk, Clay Rawlings, Misty Rawlings, Theresa Rawlings, Justus Rawlings, Liberti Rawlings, Brian Rawlings; and 14 great grandchildren.

Memorial Services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 29, 2001, at St. Charles Borromeo Parish, Tacoma Wash. With Father Mike McDermott officiating.

Interment will be in the Pomona cemetery, Pomona, Calif.

Russel G. Burns

PURGITSVILLE - Russell G. Burns, 89, of HC 86, Box 182, Purgitsville, died Sunday, March 25, 2001 at Hampshire Memorial Hospital, Romney.

Born March 7, 1912 at Jordan Run, he was a son of the late Harry and Sarah (Rohrbaugh) Burns. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Edith L. Burns, on June 1, 1975; two sons, John Burns and Junior Burns; a sister, Pearl Burns; a stepson, Willis "Sid" Rohrbaugh; and two step-grandsons, Tommy and Leroy Rohrbaugh. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Mr. Burns was a self-employed timberman and farmer. He also worked with the B&O Railroad for a number of years. He attended the Marvin Chapel United Methodist Church, Purgitsville.

He is survived by his long-time special companion, Anna High, Purgitsville; two sons, Ronnie Lee Burns and wife, Peggy, Purgitsville and Ernest Russell "Ernie" Burns and wife, Pat, Purgitsville; one daughter, Bueanna "Ann" Halterman and husband Richard, Unionville, Va.; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Burlington Chapel, today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Knobley Church of the Brethren, New Creek, on Wednesday at 11a.m. with Pastor Roger Leatherman officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to services.

Interment will be in the Knobley cemetery, New Creek.

Nina K. Cross

LADY LAKE, Fla. - Nina K. Cross, 85, of Lady Lake, Fla., formerly of Keyser, died Saturday, March 24, 2001 in Florida.

Born June 5, 1915 in Rawlings, Md., she was a daughter of the late John Russell and Sarah Rebecca (Wilson) Berry. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Bernard H. Cross Jr. on May 31, 1975; one brother, Roy R. Berry; and five sisters, Edith Louise Shefflet, Elsie Winters, Elva Lahman, Verda Audrey Brode, and Sarah Rebecca Berry. Another sister, Alda Faye Walker of Keyser, died Sunday, March 25, 2001.

Mrs. Cross was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Keyser.

She is survived by one daughter, Beverly Jean "Bunny" Kitzmiller and husband, Emory, Lady Lake, Fla.; one sister, Mary C. Robinson, Keyser; two grandchildren, Darla Altobello, Ocala, Fla. and Karla Perrell and husband, Randy, Frederick, Md.; two great grandchildren, Kyle and Allyson Perrell.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Friday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Samuel E. Starling Jr. officiating.

Interment will be in the Philos cemetery, Westernport, Md.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 1114, Cumberland, Md. 21502.

Alda Faye Walker

KEYSER - Alda Faye Walker, 77, a resident of Heartland of Keyser Nursing Home, formerly of 500 Carskadon Lane, Keyser, died Sunday, March 25, 2001 at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser.

Born Oct. 29, 1923 at Elk Garden, she was a daughter of the late John R. and Sarah Rebecca (Wilson) Berry. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Roscoe H. Walker Sr.; one brother, Roy R. Berry; and six sisters, Edith Louise Shefflet, Elsie Winters, Elva Lahman, Verda Audrey Brode, Nina K. Cross and Sarah Rebecca Berry.

Mrs. Walker was a retired nurse's aid at Iliff Nursing Home in Dunn Loring, Va. for 22 years. She formerly attended the Grace United Methodist Church, Keyser.

She is survived by three sons, Roy Garrett McDonald and wife Judith Eileen, Moorefield, Douglas Herbert Willey and wife Diane, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Roscoe Walker Jr. and wife Jan, Fredericksburg, Va.; one daughter, Betty Jean McDonald, one sister, Mary C. Robinson, Keyser, three grandchildren, Lisa Ann Baluck, serving in the US Navy stationed in Hawaii, Angela Renee White, Sterling, Va., and Rodney Willey, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Graveside funeral services will be conducted at Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser on Friday at 3 p.m. with Rev. Sue Culbertson Jarrett officiating. Interment will follow.

Louise E. DiMarino

KEYSER, WV - Louise Ethel DiMarino, 78, of Rt. 6, Keyser, WV, died Sunday, June 10, 2001 at her residence.

Born on February 26, 1923 at Martin, WV, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Alice (Rotruck) Rotruck. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel DiMarino on December 17, 1991 and by a sister, Mildred Cutter.

Mrs. DiMarino was a homemaker and was a graduate of Petersburg High School.

Surviving are one son, James Andrew "Andy" DiMarino, Sr. of Romney, WV; one daughter, Danielle "Dee" DiMarino of Keyser, WV; four grandchildren, James Andrew "Jim" DiMarino, Jr. of Baltimore, MD, Tina Marie Pezzanite of Richmond, VA, Tanya Louise Long of Keyser, WV, and Angela Lynn Murphy of Keyser, WV; and three great grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Joseph Gerstell officiating.

Interment will be in the Knobley cemetery, Martin, WV.

Virginia Mae Simms

ROMNEY, WV - Virginia Mae Simms, 74, of HC 65, Box 5700, Romney, WV, died Monday, June 11, 2001 at the Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, VA.

Born April 25, 1927 at Dry Fork, WV, she was a daughter of the late Grover Cleveland and Della (Wolford) Flanagan. She also was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Margaret Loraine Simms and two brothers; Martin "Jack" Flanagan and Calvin W. Flanagan, Sr.

Surviving are her husband of 55 years, Albert L. Simms, Sr.; five sons: Albert Lewis Simms, Jr., and wife, Nancy, of Romney, WV, Donald Leon Simms and wife, Gai, of Catharpin, VA, Gary Richard Simms and wife, Judy, of Cires, VA, Mark Stephens Simms of Vienna, VA, and Phillip E. Simms of Fairfax, VA; two sisters, Mildred Bonner of Burlington, WV and Mary Mick of Burlington, WV; nine grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Burlington Chapel, on Wednesday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Beaver Run Church of the Brethern on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Preston J. Miller officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to services.

Graveside services will be conducted at the Mount Comfort cemetery, Alexandria, VA on Friday at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow.

Arlena S. Jack

ELK GARDEN, WV - Arlena S. Jack, 88, of Mount Pisgah Road, Elk Garden, WV, died Sunday, June 10, 2001 at the home of her niece, Ila F. Crumbaugh in New Creek, WV.

Born on September 13, 1912 at Hartmansville, WV, she was a daughter of the late Maynard and Alice (Kitzmiller) Jack. She also was preceded in death by a sister, Vauda E. Junkins, one brother, Raymond Jack, and four half brothers: Millard, Earl, Elmer, and Ernest Lemmon.

Miss Jack formerly attended the White Hall Assembly of God Church and the Terra Firma School.

Surviving are one niece, Ila F. Crumbaugh and husband, Gary, of New Creek, WV; two nephews, Pastor Carroll G. Junkins and wife, Mildred, of Bruceton Mills, WV and Roger L. Junkins and wife, Charlene of New Creek, WV; five great nieces and nephews and six great great nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Hartmansville United Methodist Church on Wednesday from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the church on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Carroll G. Junkins officiating.

Interment will be in the Hartmansville cemetery.

The Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, WV, is in charge of the arrangements.
