CLEAR BROOK, Va. - Charles Lemen Ellis, 77, of Clear Brook, Va., formerly of Vienna, Va., died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 1997, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born June 21, 1920, in Hedgesville, W.Va., he was the son of the late Boyd Ellis and Mary Lee Brown Ellis.
He was a 1945 graduate of Hedgesville High School.
He retired from C&P Telephone Company of Northern Virginia, after 42 years.
He was a member of Masonic Temple, Concord Lodge AF&AM of Vienna, Va.
He is survived by his wife, of 54 years, Delores Esther Miller Ellis; three daughters, Constance Lee Whitehead of Hummelstown, Pa., Patricia Ellis Winterhalter of McLean, Va., and Charla Louise Case of Hillsboro, Va.; two sisters, Dorothy L. Shickle of Hedgesville and Mary Lou Thomas of Clear Spring; one brother, James B. Ellis of Martinsburg; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Charles L. Ellis Jr.; and a brother, Boyd Ellis Jr.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Roger Powell will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery with Masonic graveside services conducted by Berkeley Lodge 37 AF&AM Hedgesville. All Master Mason will meet at the lodge hall in Hedgesville at 10 a.m. Saturday. Berkeley Post 14 American Legion and Newton D. Baker Post 896 VFW will conduct military graveside services.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

William H. Washington Jr.
RANSON, W.Va. - William Henry Washington Jr., 70, of Ranson, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 1997, at Roanoke Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Roanoke, Va.
Born Jan. 29, 1927, in Charles Town, W.Va., he was the son of the late William Henry and Betty Elizabeth Williams Washington Sr.
He is survived by two sons, Keith Washington and Kevin Washington; two sisters, Sarah Jones of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Nellie Gainey of Charles Town; and two brothers, Lawrence Washington of Louisville, Ky., and Thomas Washington of Charles Town.
Graveside services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Pleasant View Memory Gardens in Martinsburg, W.Va. Bishop Walter Newman will officiate.
Arrangements are by Jefferson Chapel Funeral Home, 114 N. Mildred St., Ranson, W.Va.

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. - Ethel June Parrish, 73, of Shenandoah Junction, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 1997, at her home.
Born Feb. 28, 1924, in Preston County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Raymond Perry and Eva Eleanor Goss Knotts.
She was a member of Grace Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Howard Parrish; two daughters, Maryland Phillips of Worton, Md., and Ladoska Johnes of Virginia Beach, Va.; two sons, Robert Parrish of Norfolk, Va., and Howard J. Parrish Jr. of Colorado Springs, Colo.; eight sisters, Joan Cole and Mildred Seavers, both of Martinsburg, Lavernia Dunn and Mary Buracker, both of Shepherdstown; Leah Morrow of Boonsboro, Rachel Wilson of Bunker Hill, W.Va., Paula Logan of Williamsport; and Sandy Knotts of Nashville, Tenn.; three brothers, Kenneth Knotts of Sacramento, Calif., James Knotts of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and Thomas Knotts of Missouri; nine granddaughters; one grandson; four great-granddaughters; and one great-grandson.
Services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg. The Rev. Robert R. Campbell will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Darlene V. Adams, 42, of Martinsburg, died Monday, Nov. 10, 1997, at her home.
Born March 27, 1955, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of Leonard and Juanita Waters Williams, of Falling Waters, W.Va.
She was valedictorian of Hedgesville High School class of 1973. She received her bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Shepherd College.
She formerly was a school teacher at Bedington Elementary School.
She was a member of Virginia Avenue Church of God in Hagerstown.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Michael J. Adams; and one son, John Adams, at home.
Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Paul Harne will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Rachel Elizabeth "Polly" Miller, 91, of Martinsburg, died Monday, Nov. 10, 1997, at City Hospital in Martinsburg.
Born Nov. 26, 1905, in Jefferson County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Charles F. and Bessie Fritts Busey.
Her husband, Raymond R. Miller, died in 1995. They were married Sept. 8, 1926.
She was a member of New Street United Methodist Church in Shepherdstown, W.Va.
She is survived by two daughters, Alma Bybee of Martinsburg, and Nila Baad of Bolivar, Ohio; one son, Donald W. Miller of Martinsburg; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Meredith R. Miller; two sisters, Dorothy Miller and Elsie M. Gano; and one brother, Charles William Busey.
Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg. The Rev. Arlene R. Carr will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens cemetery.

BUNKER HILL, W.Va. - Robert E. Mason Sr., 66, of Bunker Hill, died Friday, Nov. 7, 1997, at Winchester Medical Center.
Born Aug. 29, 1931, in Bunker Hill, he was the son of the late Edgar F. and Mabel E. Foutz Mason.
He retired in 1992 from Fairchild/Rohr Aircraft Co.
He was of the Methodist faith.
He was a member of Moose Lodge 120 in Martinsburg, W.Va.
He is survived by his wife, of 45 years, Christina Jenkins, two daughters, Linda Carey of Manassas, Va. and Judy Fouch of Bunker Hill; two sons, Robert Mason Jr. of Gerrardstown, W.Va. and Gary Mason of Ridgeway, W.Va.; two sisters, Janet M. Kerns and Audrey M. Good, both of Winchester, Va.; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Jean M. Belford.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel, 2060 Rosedale cemetery Road, Martinsburg. The Rev. Anthony Wadsworth will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - A memorial service for Retired U.S. Navy Capt. L. James Baird, 86, formerly of Charles Town, who died Friday, Nov. 7, 1997, will be Tuesday, Nov. 11, at 1 p.m. at the Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town.
Immediately following the service, the family will receive friends at the Presbyterian Church, East Washington Street, Charles Town. Burial will be in DeWitt.
Raymond A. Michael
HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Raymond Allen Michael, 80, of Hedgesville, died Saturday, Nov. 8, 1997, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Oct. 4, 1917, in Morgan County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Calvin Benton and Grace May Widmyer Michael.
He attended Mount Cecil School, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
He retired in 1973, after 30 years of service, as a dietitian supervisor and cook with Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg. Earlier, he worked with Keefer Farm in Chambersburg, Pa.; Western Union Telephone and Telegraph; and as a custodian, at Berkeley Springs Post Office.
Having served as private first class in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945, he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon, the American Theater Ribbon and the World War II Victory Ribbon.
He was a member of Johnsontown Bible Church, Hedgesville.
He was a member of Disabled American Veterans; a lifetime member and first Post Quartermaster of Risinger-Stotler Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4019, Berkeley Springs; and a former member of Alderton-Dawson American Legion Post 60, Berkeley Springs. He was a volunteer with Morgan County Rescue Service, Berkeley Springs.
He is survived by his wife, of 49 years, Nettie Virginia Householder Michael; one son, Richard Eugene "Turkey" Michael of Hedgesville; two sisters, Evelyn Carbaugh of Clear Spring, Md. and Helen Johnson of Martinsburg; one brother, Ralph E. Michael of Hedgesville; one niece; three nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Johnsontown Bible Church, Hedgesville. Pastor Jack Rudy will officiate. Burial will be in Spohrs Crossroads cemetery, Berkeley Springs, with military graveside honors provided by Tri-State Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs; and Tuesday one hour prior to the services at the church. Also, the funeral home will be open Monday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., for the convenience of friends.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Anna M. McBride, 88, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, Nov. 8, 1997, at Integrated Health Services of Jefferson.
Born Sept. 5, 1909, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Lydia Stanley Barthlow.
She was preceded in death by her husband, W. S. "Steve" McBride.
She was formerly employed at City Hospital.
She was a lifetime member of Otterbein United Methodist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Anna Jane McBride of Martinsburg; one son, David S. McBride of Martinsburg; one sister, Elizabeth Walker of Boonsboro; one brother, Albert Barthlow of Baltimore; two grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Catherine Barthlow; and four brothers, Raymond Barthlow, Vernon Barthlow, Isaac Barthlow, and Calvin Curtis Barthlow.
Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. John R. Yost will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.
