He retired in 1974 as a trackman with B&O Railroad, Hancock, W.Va.
He served as a light machine gunner in the U.S. Army from Jan. 4, 1944, to March 6, 1946. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon and World War II Victory Ribbon.
He was a member of Berkeley Springs Presbyterian Church, Berkeley Springs.
He is survived by nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Grace Kidwell and Susie Peck; and four brothers, Jesse Peck, Elmer Peck, Melvin Peck and Brooke Peck.
Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs. The Rev. William D. Leonard will officiate. Burial will be in Greenway cemetery, Berkeley Springs.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral home will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday for the convenience of friends.
Nan Davidson
BOLIVAR, W.Va. - Nan Davidson, 75, of Bolivar, died Monday, Feb. 23, 1998, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.
Born Sept. 21, 1922, in Jefferson County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Robert L. and Nannie Houff Hardy.
She a member of Camp Hill Wesley United Methodist Church and a Sunday school teacher.
She is survived by her husband, Hugh E. Davidson; one daughter, Pamela Woodruff of Bunker Hill, W.Va.; three sons, Brent Davidson of Delray, W.Va., Bruce Davidson of Halltown, W.Va., and Barry Davidson of Pikeside, W.Va.; two sisters, Margie Cook and Audrey Wiltshire, both of Bolivar; one brother, Alfred Hardy of Ranson, W.Va.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pierre E. Dostert
HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Pierre Etienne Dostert, 64, of Bolivar Heights, died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 1998, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va.
Born Nov. 14, 1933, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Mildred Baker Dostert and Leon Emile Dostert.
He was a former judge of the 23rd Judicial Circuit consisting of Jefferson, Berkeley and Morgan counties.
He was a musician, author and officer of Stryker-Post Publications of Harpers Ferry, for which he also served as editior of its "The World Today Series."
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home in Harpers Ferry. The Rev. Vincent Campi will officiate.

James M. Snyder
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - James Mathew "Pop" Snyder, 85, of Berkeley Springs, and formerly of Baltimore, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 1998, at Morgan County War Memorial Hospital, Berkeley Springs.
Born April 19, 1912, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late James Gordon and Theresa Griffith Snyder.
His wife, Sylvia Elizabeth Edel Snyder, died in 1989.
He attended Baltimore public schools.
He retired in April 1977 as a route driver with Baltimore Gas and Electric Co., Baltimore.
He was a member of Church of the Annunciation, Baltimore.
He is survived by one son, Charles E. Snyder of Berkeley Springs; four grandchildren, Mark Leonard Snyder of Fulton, Pa., James Mathew Snyder of Elkins, W.Va., John Remley King III of New York City, and Petty Officer 2nd Class Jeannette Lee King, stationed with the U.S. Navy in Charlotte, N.C.; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at John C. Miller Funeral Home, 6415 Bel Air Road, Baltimore. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Gardens, Middle River, Md.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Laurence Karl Brown, 86, of 1305 West Virginia Ave., died Saturday, Feb. 21, 1998, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.
Born July 28, 1911, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Theodore F. Brown III and Jean Loomis Brown.
He attended Slippery Rock University and graduated from Westchester University.
He was employed by Boy Scouts of America as an executive in Philadelphia and locally as the Mason-Dixon Council executive.
He attended Valley View Chapel, Martinsburg.
He was a former member of Hagerstown Rotary Club.
He was an artist and painter.
He is survived by his wife, Lareta M. Brown; one daughter, Carolou B. Russell of Martinsburg; one son, Bruce B. Brown of Clermont, Fla.; one sister, Elizabeth Stead of Greenville, Maine; two brothers, Arnold Brown of Sun City, Ariz., and Robert Brown of Englewood, Fla.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. J. Norman Mayer will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven cemetery in Hagerstown.

Sallie R. Neely
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Sallie R. Neely, 95, of Berkeley Springs, died Monday, Feb. 23, 1998, at Valley View Nursing Home in Berkeley Springs.
Born Oct. 25, 1902, in Berkeley Springs, she was the daughter of the late Charles Edward and Eliza Yost Fleece.
She was preceded in death by three husbands, Homer Bageant, William M. Miller and John W. Neely.
She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Berkeley Springs, and the sodality.
She worked at Michael's Canning Factory, Miller Canning Factory, and Walter E. Neely Canning Factory, all in Morgan County, W.Va. Later, she worked at Interwoven Hosiery Mill and Coolfont Recreation, both in Berkeley Springs.
She was a member of AARP, and Women of the Moose Chapter 1311, and Democratic Club of Morgan County, both in Berkeley Springs.
She is survived by two daughters, Virginia M. Good of Westminster, Md., and Emma Jean Checchio of Trenton, Mich.; one sister, Agnes Neely of Berkeley Springs; two grandsons; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Frederick and Della Miller; and two brothers, Floyd Fleece and Woodrow Fleece.
Funeral liturgy will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 116 S. Washington St., Berkeley Springs. The Rev. John S. Ledford will officiate. Burial will be in Bethel cemetery, U.S. 522, Berkeley Springs.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Lester Franklin Gregory, 71, of Martinsburg, died Monday, Feb. 23, 1998, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.
Born July 1, 1926, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Andrew and Victoria DeHaven Gregory.
He managed Blue White Grill Restaurant. He retired from Fairchild Co.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy. He received the Purple Heart and the World War II Victory Medal.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys Mason Gregory; three daughters, Vicki Renner of Martinsburg, Kathi Adams of Glengary, W.Va., Karen Stevens of Martinsburg; three sons, Lyle Gregory of Hedgesville, W.Va., Ronald Gregory and Kevin Stevens, both of Martinsburg; one sister, Marie Thompson of Martinsburg; one brother, Charles Edwards of Saint Pauls, N.C.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Virgil DeHaven.
Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel, Martinsburg. The Rev. Malcolm L. Cadd will officiate. Burial will be in Rest cemetery in Virginia.

Jane B. Thompson
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Jane Bell Thompson, 79, of Charles Town, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 1998, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va.
Born April 10, 1918, in Bluemont, Va., she was the daughter of the late Robert and Mary Bayles Wiley.
Her husband, Robert I. Thompson, preceded her in death.
She retired from Doubleday Inc.
She was of the Protestant faith.
She is survived by one daughter, Linda Rose of Charles Town, W.Va.; two sisters, Evelyn Elliott and Dorothy Unger, both of Charles Town; one brother, Thomas Wiley of Berryville, Va.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin S. Wiley and Martin K. Wiley.
Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Jefferson Chapel Funeral Home, Martinsburg, W.Va. The Rev. John Faircloth will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg.
