Ronald E. Williams

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Ronald E. Williams, 50, of Charles Town, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1998, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital.

Born Feb. 11, 1947, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Clarence and Annie Edwards Williams.

He was a computer systems specialist for Acacia Mutual Life Insurance Co.

He was a veteran of Vietnam, serving with the U.S. Marines.

He was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Ranson, W.Va.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ruffin Williams; two daughters, Zabrina D. Williams and Yvette M. Williams, both at home; one son, Ronald E. Williams II of Landover, Md.; eight sisters, Carole E. Clark and Roberta M. Williams, both of Forestville, Md., Linda J. Williams of Landover, Clariece J. Armstead and Phyllis M. Smith, both of Upper Marlboro, Md., Myrtle R. Cagan and Lynette E. Williams, both of Houston, and Paula A. Williams of Mitchellville, Md.; and nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Kingdom Hall, Third and Buchanon streets, Ranson. Brother Paul Miles Sr. will officiate. Burial will be private.

Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg.

Jeffrey S. Kave

ARLINGTON, Va. - Jeffrey Shirley Kave, 73, of Arlington, died Saturday, Feb. 7, 1998, at Hospice of Northern Virginia, Arlington, Va.

Born in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Emmitt G. and Bethel Nesmith Shirley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Offie Kave, in 1995.

She was a homemaker; and previously a child care worker.

She was a member of American Association of Retired People.

She is survived by three sons, Larry W. Kave of Parkersburg, W.Va., Gary E. Kave of McLean, Va., and Terry L. Kave of Fairfax, Va.; one sister, Dorothy E. Brannon of Winchester, Va.; six grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Thelma Kelley, Anna Mae Quackenbush and Myrtle Shirley; and five brothers, Vernon W. Shirley, Charles Donald Shirley, Joseph E. Shirley, Harley R. Shirley and Glenn R. Shirley.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home, 106 S. Mercer St., Berkeley Springs, W.Va. The Rev. Hennis Fox will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood United Methodist Church cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Robert L. Dunham Sr.

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Robert Linwood Dunham Sr., 77, of Berkeley Springs, died Saturday, Feb. 7, 1998, at Morgan County War Memorial Hospital, Berkeley Springs.

Born Sept. 20, 1920, in Berkeley Springs, he was the son of the late Frank Campbell and Elizabeth Millard Dunham.

He was a 1939 graduate of Berkeley Springs High School.

He completed mechanic's training in Harrisonburg, Va.

He worked at Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown during the early 1940s. He retired in 1986 after 40 years of service as a maintenance supervisor with Pennsylvania Glass Sand Corp. in Berkeley Springs.

He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Berkeley Springs.

He was a member of the former Berkeley Springs Kiwanis Club; Webster B. Harrison American Legion Post 26, Hancock; a member-at-large of West Virginia VFW, Charleston, W.Va.; and a member of West Virginia American Veterans of World War II. He served two terms as a Town of Bath Councilman during the mid 1950s.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Madeline Sarah Dawson Dunham; one daughter, Edwina Elizabeth Harrington of Berkeley Springs; one son, Robert Linwood Dunham Jr. of Berkeley Springs; one brother, Frank Taylor "Bud" Dunham of Hagerstown; three grandsons; one great-granddaughter; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one son, Phillip Lehan Stotler; one grandson, Robert Derrick Harrington; two sisters, Anna Jane Ditto and Dorothy Dunham; and two brothers, Edward Millard Dunham and Allan Lee Dunham.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 110 S. Green St., Berkeley Springs. The Rev. Owen B. Womack will officiate. Burial will be in Union Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery, with military graveside honors provided by Tri-state Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs; and Tuesday one hour prior to the services at the church. The funeral home will be open Monday from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., for the convenience of friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Endowment Fund of First United Methodist Church, 110 S. Green St., Berkeley Springs, W.Va. 25411; Berkeley Springs Volunteer Fire Co., P.O. Box 142, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. 25411; or Morgan County Rescue Service, P.O. Box 151, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. 25411.

Joe C. Copley

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Joe Clayborne Copley, 72, of Martinsburg, and formerly of Brentwood, Md., died Friday at City Hospital, Martinsburg.

Born Oct. 25, 1925, in Iaeger, W.Va., he was the son of the late John R. and Minnie Lambert Copley.

He retired from the Department of the Navy, Division of Public Works, Washington Navy Yard, as an electrical planner and estimator.

He was of the Protestant faith.

He was a member of Masonic Order of AF & AM, Grand Lodge of West Virginia; Lodge 141, Berwind, W.Va.

He was employed as an electrician in the McDowell County, W.Va., coal mines.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Frances Cooper Copley at home; one daughter, Karla Copley Ficken of New Market, Md.; two sons, Byron W. Copley of New Market and Kevin D. Copley of Damascus, Md.; one sister, Charlene Hall of Roanoke, Va.; one brother, Gene L. Copley of Hernando, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Joe C. Copley II; a brother, Harold Copley; and a half brother, Austin Arrington.

Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel in Martinsburg. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery, Martinsburg.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Charles H. Taylor Jr.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Charles H. "Junie" Taylor Jr., 74, of Martinsburg, died Friday, Feb. 6, 1998, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.

Born Sept. 21, 1923, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Charles H. and Pearl Triggs Taylor Sr.

He retired from E. I. DuPont after 30 years of service.

He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Medical Corps, serving in New Guinea.

He was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church.

He was a 35-year member of Martinsburg Lodge 120, Loyal Order of the Moose; a life member of Newton D. Baker Post 896 Veterans of Foreign Wars; BPO Elks 778; Woodbrier Golf Club; a 50-year member of Berkeley Post 14, American Legion; and a 25-year member of Council 1169, Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Jean Hardy Taylor; two sons, Charles T. Taylor and John K. Taylor, both of Martinsburg; two sisters, Naomi L. Perry of Lyons, N.Y. and B. Marie Sowers of Martinsburg; four brothers, Hubert T. Taylor of Charleston, W.Va., P. Douglas Taylor and Robert E. Taylor, both of Martinsburg and John W. Taylor of Fort Washington, Md.; five grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and cousins.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary E. Feeney and Edith M. Price; and one brother, Russell F. Taylor.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be said Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Inwood, W.Va. The Rev. Brian Shoda and the Rev. James D. Riley Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery, with military graveside services by Newton D. Baker Post 896, VFW; and Berkeley Post 14, American Legion.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg.

Memorial donations may be made to American Diabetes Association, West Virginia Affiliate Inc., 1221A Ohio Ave., P.O. Box 1115, Dunbar, W.Va. 25064.

Emma E. Hoard

FALLING WATERS, W.Va. - Emma Elizabeth Hoard, 78, of Potomac Park Campgrounds, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 1998, at her home.

Born Feb. 9, 1919, in Chambersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John Lewis and Grace Over Geiman.

She was a member of Assembly of God Church.

She is survived by her husband, the Rev. William Marvin Hoard; two daughters, JoAnn Leatherland of Massena, N.Y., and Patricia Jean Pippin of Prince George, Va.; two sisters, Esther Bender and Meriam Reineman, both of Chambersburg; two brothers, Raymond Geiman and Lewis Geiman, both of Chambersburg; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Josephine Stoner; and two brothers, Robert Geiman and David Geiman.

Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The Rev. James A. Haskiell and the Rev. Robert Revell will officiate. Burial will be in Norland cemetery, Chambersburg.

Friends may call Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral home also will be open Sunday after 9 a.m. for the convenience of family and friends.

Louis W. Davis

FAIRFAX, Va. - Louis W. Davis, 85, of Sunrise Retirement Home, died Friday, Jan. 30, 1998, at Sunrise Retirement Home of heart failure.

He was born in 1912, in Martinsburg, W.Va.

He retired as a journalist in the aerospace and aviation industry. During his career as editor and feature writer, he held executive positions with Fairchild, Republic Aviation and Aero Commander/Rockwell Corp. for 15 years. He served as editor and public relations director for Air Line Pilots Association for more than eight years. He was the founder, editor and publisher of Commuter Air magazine until its sale and then became senior editor of Air Transport World.

He served as an air operations correspondent for Army Airways Communications System in World War II and was an air combat correspondent for McGraw Hill in Korea. He soloed in 1933 and had more than 3,000 hours as a pilot.

He was instrumental in the founding of Society of Senior Aerospace Executives in 1986, where he was a life member of the board of directors.

In 1985, he was honored with a citation for his outstanding contributions to the aviation industry by the Regional Airline Association. He also was active in American Legion; National Aeronautics Association; Aero Club of Washington; Flying Circus Aerodrome; and National Aviation Club.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy L. Davis; a sister, Marie Showers of Hagerstown; four nieces; and a nephew.

A memorial service will be Wednesday, Feb. 18, at 11 a.m. at Fort Meyer Chapel at Arlington National cemetery.

Nancy R. Ropp

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Nancy Rebecca Ropp, 80, of Martinsburg, and formerly of Homestead Farms, Spring Mills, W.Va., died Thursday, Feb. 5, 1998, at Integrated Health Services, Charles Town, W.Va.

Born Feb. 23, 1917, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Robert Culler and Anna Gantt Ropp.

She was a 1933 graduate of Martinsburg High School. She also was a graduate of Shepherd College; and received her master's degree from West Virginia University.

She was a retired school teacher and principal in Berkeley County.

She was a member of Falling Waters Presbyterian Church, where she served as organist and pianist.

She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma; William Henshaw Chapter DAR; and was active in 4-H.

She is survived by three nieces, Nancy Snider, Phyllis Baer and Mary M. Downey; and seven great-nieces.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ropp Downey.

Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Falling Waters Presbyterian Church, Spring Mills. The Rev. Mitchell L. Miller will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg.

Memorial donations may be made to Martinsburg High School Alumni Scholarship Fund, c/o Ruth Benner, 430 Winchester Ave., Martinsburg, W.Va. 25401.
