Opal Marie Greenlief
Opal Marie Greenlief, 89, of Gassaway, died March 21, 2006 at Braxton County Memorial Hospital.
She was born September 13, 1916 in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Emory and Lennie Morgan Rollyson.
She was a clerk for the Kroger and A&P Stores in Gassaway and she also operated a Dairy Bar; she was a foster parent and a member of the Sugar Creek Baptist church.
She is survived by son, Zandal Coffman and wife, Angel of Heaters; daughter, Donna Oliver and husband, Greg of West Union; daughter-in-law, Kay Greenlief Browning of Duck; grandchildren, Mike and Kathryn Greenlief of Gassaway, Randy and Angie Greenlief of Duck, Missy and George Patrick of Frametown; 11 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by husband, Ferrell Greenlief in 1990; son, Jim Greenlief in 1996; grandson, Rick Greenlief in 1984.
Services were held 11 a.m. Friday, March 24 at the Sugar Creek Baptist Church, near Gassaway with Pastor Jeff Hanna officiating. Burial was in the Sugar Creek Cemetery. Friends were welcome to call from 6 to 9 pm Thursday at Richard M. Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway.

Helen M. Evans
Helen M. Evans, 89, of Sutton died March 20, 2006 in Webster Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Cowen, West Virginia. She was born in Chicago, IL on May 13, 1916.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph & Mary Polka; two husbands Ward Marks and Ray O. Evans; sister, Sylvia Wheeler; and cousin Anna Wiacek.
She was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, Gassaway, West Virginia and a homemaker.
One stepdaughter Dora Lee Hill of Buford, GA, survives her; two cousins Stella Radycki and Josephine Waner of Chicago, IL; many other cousins; and 6 step grandchildren, 13 step great grandchildren and 8 step great great grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial was held on Monday March 27, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Gassaway, West Virginia with Father Elmer Nadicksbernd officiating. Burial was in the Braxton County Cemetery near Sutton, West Virginia.

Noretta "Patty" Conrad Allen
Noretta “Patty” Conrad Allen, 68, of Cleveland, OH, formerly of Braxton County, graduated from life and promoted to heaven on March 21, 2006 in Cleveland OH, after a long illness.
She was a homemaker and mother.
She is preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, Raymond in 2004, parents, Boyd W. “Tuck” and Artie Mae Wine Conrad, sisters, Ressie B. Allen, Nina M. Blake, brothers, Benjaman F. and Thomas B. Conrad.
Daughters, Patricia Williams, Edna K. Hoch both of Cleveland, OH, survive her. Sons, Jerry L. Allen and Raymond J. Allen both of Cleveland, OH and Rev. Paul L. Allen of Craigsville, West Virginia. Sisters, Lou V. Young of Leivasy, WV, Rosa I. Sisk of Jane Lew, WV, Lona G. Claypoole, Nancy A. Singleton, Reba G. Ratliff all of Orlando, WV. She is also survived many nieces, nephews and friends. Six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services were held on Saturday March 25, 2006 at 11:00 am at Stockert-Gibson Funeral Home in Flatwoods with the Rev. Delmas Singleton officiating. Burial was in the Little Kanawha Memorial Gardens in Heaters, WV. Friends were welcome to call from 6 – 9 pm Friday at the funeral home.

A. Wayne Wilburn
A. Wayne Wilburn, 49, of Rockport, West Virginia died on March 20, 2006 at his residence after a brief illness. He was born on January 16, 1957 in South Charleston to William N. Wilburn and Joretta C. (Browning) Wilburn.
Mr. Wilburn was a former lineman for Monongahela Power Company. Formerly of Frametown, WV. He was a member of South Parkersburg Baptist church where he was part of the media ministry. He enjoyed his grandchildren and being outdoors.
He was preceded in death by his parents William N. Wilburn and Joretta C. (Browning) Wilburn.
Survived by wife Valma Sue (Wickline) Wilburn of Rockport, WV, daughter, Rhonda (Pastor J.D., Jr) Reed of Parkersburg, WV, son, Michael (Karie) Wilburn of Weyers Cave, VA, brother, Edward (Deborah) Scott of Newark, DE, William N. Wilburn Jr. of Sutton, WV, Brian (Pam) Wilburn of Flatwoods, WV, grandchildren, Grace Elizabeth, Aligail Marie & Nathanael Bruce Reed of Parkersburg, WV and Lauren Kate Wilburn of Weyers Cave, VA.
The services were held on Wednesday, March 23, 2006 at 11:00 am at South Parkersburg Baptist Church with Pastor J.D. Reed, Jr. Burial was in the Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Parkersburg, WV.
Dodd & Reed Funeral Home in Webster Springs, WV was in charge of the arrangements.

Inez White Cogar
Inez White Cogar, 84, of Sutton, WV died March 3, 2006 in Charleston Area Medical Center/Memorial Division after heart surgery.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 1, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Church United Methodist in Sutton, WV with Dr. Thom Malcolm officiating. A private family burial will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ C Church United Methodist, 188 Main St. Sutton, WV 26601.
Greene-Robertson funeral home, Sutton is serving the Cogar family.

Oscar Lee Blake
Oscar Lee Blake, 79, of Burnsville, passed away on Thursday March 23, 2006 in Stonewall Jackson Hospital after a long illness.
He was a retired blast foreman, a US Army Veteran and a native of Wolfpen, Braxton, WV. Oscar was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ollie Brown Blake. Sisters, Ocie Williams and Ocil Sears. Brothers, Dick, Dewey and Dave Posey.
He is survived by his wife, Sallie Burroughs Blake of Burnsville, sons Thomas Blake of Burnsville and Roy Lipps of Heaters, daughter Margaret Ann “Margie” Boyd of Winston Salem, NC, sister, Mable Eagle of Burnsville, 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral Services were held on Sunday March 26, 2006 at 2:00 PM at Stockert-Gibson Funeral Home in Flatwoods with the Rev. Ronzel Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Stringtown Cemetery in Burnsville. Friends called from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the Funeral Home.

Clyde L. Cottrill
Clyde L. Cottrill, 86, of Copen, WV. passed away Friday May, 5, 2006 in Holzer Medical Center in Gallipolis, OH. after an extended illness.
Clyde was a born on July 8, 1919 in Braxton County and was retired from CSX Railroad. He was a US Army Veteran of WWII and a Methodist by faith.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Carrie Moyers Cottrill and one brother, Fred Cottrill.
Clyde is survived by his wife Veda M. McNemar Cottrill of Copen.
Three brothers, Harold Cottrill of Flower, WV./ Robert Cottrill of Milbourne, FL./ Bill Cottrill of Morgantown, WV. Two sisters, Vonda of Fairmont, WV./ Chatta Belcastro of Shinston, WV. Three half brothers, Jerry, Tommy and Johnny Cottrill all of Farmington, WV. Three half sisters, Judy of Kentucky, Donna of Pickets Fort and Connie of Farmington, WV.
Funeral services were at 2:00 PM Wednesday May 10, 2006 at Stockert-Gibson Funeral Home in Flatwoods, WV. with the Rev. Bill Griffin officiating. Burial will be in Copen Cemetery, Copen, WV. Friends were able to call from 6-8:00 PM Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Glenith Cogar
Mrs. Glenith Cogar, 84, of Sutton, passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2006 at Braxton Health Care Center near Sutton after a long illness.
Glenith was born on March 24, 1922 in Braxton County to the late Jacob and Delilah Bright Roby. She was a homemaker, a member of the Rebecca Lodge and the Sutton Flower Club and was a Methodist by Faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband Roy B. Cogar, her parents, brothers, Arzie, Ray, Glen, Virgil, Marion Roby and one sister Lavoe Roby Frame.
She is survived by sons Eddie and Kevin Cogar of Gassaway, Craig and Kenny Cogar of Sutton, and daughters, Carolin Canfield of Sutton and Shelvy Suarez of St. Albans, WV, and six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Services were at 11:00 am Saturday, May 13, 2006 at Stockert-Gibson Funeral Home in Flatwoods with the Rev. William “Billy” Griffin officiating. Burial will be in the Morrison Ridge Cemetery near Sutton. Friends were able to call from 6-8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Charles F. Cutlip
Charles F. Cutlip passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2006, at Marmet Health Care Center after a long illness due to Alzheimer’s.
Charlie was born Aug. 9, 1918, in Newville, W.Va, and lived most of his life in South Charleston, working and retiring from Union Carbide as a millwright mechanic. He moved to Ripley to enjoy his retirement years.
Preceding him are his frist wife, Jean Alice Burrows Cutlip, who died February 6, 1970; his father and mother, Charlie P. Cutlip and Loura I. Cutlip; and his brothers, Dale D. Cutlip, Robert J. Cutlip and William L. Cutlip.
Surviving are wife of 31 years, Norma Thompson Cutlip of Ripley; daughter, Cheryl (Ben) Black of Elkview; stepdaughter, Diane (James) Thompson Shott of Bluefield, Va.; stepsons, Donald (Karen) Thompson of Kingsport, Tenn., and Steven (Nancy) Thompson of South Charleston; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary K. Nutter of Clearwater, Fla., Joye Ratcliff of Charleston; and brothers, Kenneth (Oreda) Cutlip of Scott Depot, Darrell (Joyce) Cutlip of Charleston.
Charlie was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church in Ripley; was Past Patron of South Charleston Chapter No. 131; and an honorary member of Cottageville Chapter No. 16 of the Order of the Eastern Star; a 50+ year member of the following South Charleston Lodge No. 168 A.F.& A.M.; Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Charleston; and Beni Kedem Shriners, being an honorary member of the Beni Kedem Oriental Band.
The service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 9, at the Good Shepherd Mortuary at 335 5th Ave., South Charleston, with Dr. Kenneth Krimmel officiating. Charlie will be buried in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston, with Masonic graveside rites conducted by South Charleston Lodge No. 168 A.F. & A.M.
Family will receive friends Monday, May 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Good Shepherd Mortuary, South Charleston, and one hour prior to the service. There will be an Eastern Star service at 7:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1111 Lee St. East, Charleston, WV 25301 or the Epworth United Methodist Church Building Fund, 299 North Church St., Ripley, WV 25271.
