Donald P. Kline Sr.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Donald P. Kline Sr., 67, of Martinsburg, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, at his home.

Born May 16, 1930, in Winchester, Va., he was the son of the late Harry Parker Kline and Virginia Shepherd Kline Walters.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan D. "Chris" Christner Kline.

He was a retired computer programmer for the IRS in Washington, D.C.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and retired with 20 years of service.

He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church.

He was past commander of the American Legion Berkeley Post 14; member of Loyal Order of Moose Martinsburg Lodge 120; and Robert White Lodge 67, AF&AM.

He is survived by two daughters, Sharon D. Hill of Apopka, Fla., and Robin D. Wagner of Martinsburg; one son, Donald P. Kline II of Martinsburg; four sisters, Lenice Garrett, Yvonne "Ebby" Kesecker and Rexine Dickinson, all of Martinsburg, and Sondra Willis of Charles Town, W.Va.; three brothers, Harry "Tuck" Kline and Phillip Walters, both of Martinsburg, and Gerry Walters of Inwood, W.Va.; and two grandchildren.

Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Jack T. Sutor Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens with military graveside services by Newton D. Baker Post 896 VFW and Berkeley Post 14 American Legion.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today and Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Dianna L. Lawrence

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Dianna L. Lawrence, 55, of Martinsburg, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, at her home.

Born March 22, 1942, in San Francisco, she was the daughter of Milicent Kerr Lawrence of Fremont, Calif., and the late Claude Lawrence.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by one daughter, Lorraine Lee of Martinsburg; one son, Gary Lee Jr. of Alexandria, Va.; one sister, Claudell Jacobson of Reno, Nev.; one brother, Richard Lawrence of Fremont; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Larry Lawrence.

Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. James E. Butts will officiate. Burial will be private.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday one hour prior to the service.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, 2015 Boyd Orchard Court, Martinsburg, W.Va. 25401.

Howell G. Brashears Sr.

GREAT CACAPON, W.Va. - Howell Griswold Brashears Sr., 70, of Great Cacapon, and formerly of Mayo, Md., died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998, at Morgan County War Memorial Hospital, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

Born Dec. 22, 1927, in Anne Arundel County, Md., he was the son of the late Frank and Gertrude Burgess Brashears.

He was a retired civil engineer with the U.S. Department of the Air Force at Andrews Air Force Base, Suitland, Md.

A U.S. Navy veteran, he served during World War II.

He was a member of St. Andrew the Fisherman Episcopal Church, Mayo.

He was a member of Cummings-Behlke American Legion Post 226, Mayo, and South River Memorial VFW Post 10072, Edgewater, Md. He was a member of South River Ruritan Club, Edgewater, and was a founding member of Great Cacapon Ruritan Club, Great Cacapon.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Beatrice Meldru Brashears of Buena Vista, Va.; one daughter, Lori Emily Brashears of New Market, Md.; one son, Mark Lowell Brashears of Buena Vista; one sister, Iva Ford of Ocean City, Md.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one son, Howell Griswold Brashears Jr.; one sister, Iona Brashears; and one brother, Milford Brashears.

A memorial service will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs. The Rev. Stephen J. Cuff will officiate. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Great Cacapon Volunteer Fire Co., P.O. Box 247, Great Cacapon, W.Va. 25422; or Great Cacapon Ruritan Club, c/o Louise Spring, P.O. Box 205, Great Cacapon, W.Va. 25422.

Patricia N. Savasten

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Patricia Noel Golden Savasten, 41, of Berkeley Springs, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, at her home.

Born March 7, 1956, in Berkeley Springs, she was the daughter of Glen Albert and Evelyn Louise Cain Golden of Berkeley Springs.

She was a 1974 graduate of Berkeley Springs High School.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of St. Thomas' Episcopal Church, Hancock.

She was active with Berkeley Springs High School Band Boosters.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, David H. Savasten; one son, Bruce Richard Douglas, at home; one sister, Elaine Golden McVey of Berkeley Springs; two brothers, Glen S. Golden and Dennis G. Golden, both of Berkeley Springs; three nieces; and three nephews.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Bruce Edward Golden, in 1980.

Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at St. Thomas' Episcopal Church, 2 E. High St., Hancock. The Rev. F. Allan Weatherholt Jr. will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Anne O. Weatherholt and Lay Associate Steven L. McCarty. Burial will be in the Michael Family cemetery, New Hope, W.Va.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Brain Tumor Association, 2720 River Road, Suite 146, Des Plaines, Ill. 60018-4110; or to Berkeley Springs High School Band Boosters, 836 Concord Ave., Berkeley Springs, W.Va. 25411.

Laura F. Fischer

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Laura Faye Fischer, 69, of Berkeley Springs, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998, at her home.

Born April 15, 1928, in Sir Johns Run, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Claude and Emily Eugenia Perry Compton.

She attended Sir Johns Run School and Berkeley Springs High School.

She retired in 1991, after 40 years as a sealer and inspector with Fairchild Aircraft, Hagerstown. She had been a homemaker in recent years.

She was of the United Methodist faith.

She is survived by her husband of 38 years, George Henry Fischer; one daughter, Cathy M. Waugh of Berkeley Springs; one son, Johnny Barker of Berkeley Springs; two stepsons, George H. Fischer Jr. and Glenwood Lee Fischer, both of Clear Spring; two sisters, Anna Lea Roach and Mary Bohrer, both of Berkeley Springs; five grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one brother, George Milton "Joe" Compton.

Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs. The Rev. Henry L. Fisher will officiate. Burial will be in Friendship cemetery, Berkeley Springs.

The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will be open today from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., for the convenience of friends.

Larue H. Parkinson

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Larue H. "Nip" Parkinson, 82, of Shepherdstown, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, at his home.

Born April 20, 1915, in Martinsburg, W.Va., he was the son of the late Gilmore Arthur and Bertha F. Everhart Parkinson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Vickers Parkinson, in 1975.

He was a graduate of Martinsburg High School.

He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Shepherdstown.

He is survived by one stepdaughter, Jean V. Ambrose of Shepherdstown; two brothers, Clifford Parkinson and Douglas Parkinson, both of Martinsburg; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Leo Parkinson and Donald Parkinson.

Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Thomas C. Jacoby will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, 2015 Boyd Orchard Court, Martinsburg, W.Va. 25401.

Joseph H. Mahoney Jr.

BUNKER HILL, W.Va. - Joseph H. Mahoney Jr., 56, of Bunker Hill, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998, at his home.

Born March 30, 1941, in Bakerton, W.Va., he was the son of Mary Elizabeth Morrison Mahoney of Charles Town, W.Va., and the late Joseph H. Mahoney Sr.

He was employed by 3M Co.

He served in the U.S. Army.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, M. Marie Pease Mahoney; one daughter, Vickie Ford of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; one son, Douglas Barnes of Berkeley Springs; three sisters, Dorothy Houser of Martinsburg, W.Va., Mary Lou Mari of New York City, and Patricia Doshier of Centreville, Va.; two brothers, Donald Houser of Martinsburg and Michael Houser of Charles Town; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, John Mahoney.

Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Jack Rudy will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Patricia A. Shackelford

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Patricia Ann Shackelford, 56, of 124 Porter Way, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va.

Born June 22, 1941, in Martinsburg, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Leonard Woodrow and Lena Catherine Lucas Young.

She was the assistant manager at Sheetz Store, Kearneysville, W.Va.

She was a member of Charles Town Baptist Church.

She is survived by two sons, Thomas A. Shackelford Jr. of Shenandoah Junction, W.Va., and Allen L. Shackelford of Charles Town; three brothers, Garland W. Young of Helena, Mont., Richard E. Hullihen of Baltimore and Robert E. Hullihen of Orange, Va.; a stepmother, Lucy E. Russell of Luray, Va.; one grandson; three nieces; and one nephew.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald William Young.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at John T. Williams Funeral Home, 100 Petersville Road, Brunswick, Md. Dr. Wyman Hall will officiate. Burial will be in Brownsville Heights cemetery, Brownsville Heights, Md.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. For the convenience of friends, the funeral home will be open Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
