MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Frank L. Lowther, 78, of Martinsburg, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.
Born June 20, 1919, in Oregon, he was the son of the late Rev. Frank L. Lowther and Naomi Thomas Lowther.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Carver Lowther.
He retired from the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.
He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Martinsburg.
He is survived by his wife, Katherine Aikens Martin Lowther; one daughter, Donnie Kay Lowther of Alexandria, Va.; one sister, Valerie Wallace of Seattle; three brothers, William Everett Lowther of Salem, Ore., Dr. Lawrence Lowther of Ellensburg, Wash., and Dwight Lowther of Williamsburg, Va.; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Estelle Sandiforth; and one brother, Kenneth Lowther.
Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Al Clipp will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery, Martinsburg.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made to Calvary United Methodist Church, 220 W. Burke St., Martinsburg, W.Va. 25401; or to the American Heart Association.
Michael W. Dieter
FALLING WATERS, W.Va. - Michael Wayne Dieter, 25, of Short Cut Road, Albermarle Estates, died Monday, Jan. 19, 1998, at his home.
Born Aug. 20, 1972, in Baltimore, he was the son of Arthur W. Dieter of Hagerstown and Beverly Barbour Lowe of Baltimore.
He was employed by Fridinger-Ritchie Co. Inc. of Hagerstown.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Robyn L. Dieter; a daughter, Briann Dieter, at home; a son, Cory Dieter, at home; stepmother, Kathleen Barrich-Dieter; one brother, Joseph W. Dieter of Hagerstown; maternal grandmother, Lois Barbour Smith of Mountain Lake, Va.; paternal grandparents, George J. and Judith L. Carte Dieter of Jamaica, Va.; and aunts, uncles and cousins.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Betty Jones will officiate.
There will be no viewing.
Robert C. Sinclair
BUNKER HILL, W.Va. - Robert Charles Sinclair, 52, of Bunker Hill, and formerly of Winchester, Va., died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998, at his home.
Born Aug. 15, 1945, in Framingham, Mass., he was the son of the late Samuel J. and Elinor Fargo Sinclair.
He was employed with the Federal Aviation Administration.
He is survived by one brother, Samuel F. Sinclair of Worcester, Mass.
Gravesides services will be at Wildwood cemetery, Ashland, Mass.

Martha O. Karlen
INWOOD, W.Va. - Martha Odell Karlen, 75, of Inwood, and formerly of Helvetia, W.Va., died Monday, Jan. 19, 1998, at Integrated Health Services of West Virginia.
Born March 11, 1922, in Czar, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Jane Tenney Cutright.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Zion Helvetia Presbyterian Church.
She was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband, Norman W. Karlen; one son, Steven Karlen of Charles Town, W.Va.; one sister, Delia Smith of Buckhannon, W.Va.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandsons.
She was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.
Memorial services will be held at a later date at Zion Helvetia Presbyterian Church.

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Mary Ionne Ogle, 91, of Berkeley Springs, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998, at Morgan County War Memorial Hospital.
Born April 2, 1906, in Emerts Cove, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late William Arthur and Nola Wahley Ogle.
She retired as chief of the U.S. Information Agency in Washington, D.C.
She was a member of Saint Vincent DePaul Catholic Church in Berkeley Springs, where she had been active with the Altar and Rosary Society.
She is survived by one sister, Hazel Beckwith of Saint Michaels, Md.; three grandchildren; and one niece.
She was preceded in death by one son, Wallace Stamey.
Funeral liturgy will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. at Saint Vincent dePaul Catholic Church, Berkeley Springs. The Rev. John S. Ledford will be celebrant. Burial will be in Greenway cemetery, Berkeley Springs.
Visitation will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home, 106 S. Mercer St., Berkeley Springs. Vigil will be held today at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

RIDGEWAY, W.Va. - Mildred Reva Bowers, 78, of Ridgeway, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 1998, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.
Born Nov. 2, 1919, in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Arthur S. and Mary E. Young Cunningham.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Ellsworth Bowers.
She was employed for nearly 25 years at Federal Silk Mill, Williamsport.
She was of the Assemblies of God faith.
She was a member of Senior Citizens Organization of Inwood, W.Va.
She is survived by one son, Darius L. Bowers of Ridgeway; one daughter, Eileen Shank of Ridgeway; one sister, Carletta Y. Miller of Hagerstown; three brothers, Daniel Cunningham of Winchester, Va., Arthur Cunningham of Williamsport and Robert Cunningham of Falling Waters, W.Va.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Edmund Cunningham.
Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Don Preston will officiate. Burial will be in Rest cemetery, Frederick County, Va.

William H. Murphy Jr.
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - William H. Murphy Jr., 69, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 1998, at his home.
Born April 18, 1928, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late William H. and Elsie Corbin Murphy Sr.
He formerly was employed by the Internal Revenue Service.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Lawrence Murphy; one daughter, Paula D. Daddio of Martinsburg; three sons, William T. Murphy Sr., Larry W. Murphy and Michael D. Murphy, all of Martinsburg; two sisters, Bessie Sine of Martinsburg and Juanita Ritter of Stephenson, Va.; two brothers, Luther Murphy of Spring Mills, W.Va., and Roger Murphy of Martinsburg; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Keith G. Edwards will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens with military graveside services by Newton D. Baker Post 896 VFW and Berkeley Post 14 American Legion.

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Robert Edwin Krogstad, 63, of Shepherdstown, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.
Born Dec. 22, 1934, in Stillwater, Minn., he was the son of the late Arthur and Wilsie Baker Krogstad.
He was a graduate of the University of Maryland, with a bachelor of arts degree and master of arts degree in education.
He retired as a teacher from Maryland Corrections Institute Educational Center.
He was a member of Shepherdstown Presbyterian Church.
He was a member of American Federation of Teachers; Sons of the Confederacy; Antietam Post, American Legion; Mount Nebo Lodge 91, AF & AM in Shepherdstown; and Chapter 155, Order of the Eastern Star in Shepherdstown.
He is survived by his wife, Loretta Vance Krogstad; two daughters, Karen Elaine Krogstad of Charlottesville, Va., and Kerry Michelle Krogstad of Shepherdstown; one son, Robert Edwin Krogstad Jr. of Frederick, Md.; two sisters, Kathryn Waldrop of Kansas City, Mo., and Mary Ellen Frederickson of St. Paul, Minn.; and one brother, Arthur Krogstad of St. Paul.
Services will be today at 2 p.m. at Shepherdstown Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Randall Tremba will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery with Masonic graveside services by Mount Nebo Lodge 91, AF&AM.
The family will receive friends today one hour prior to the services at the church.

Jennie B. Snyder
BOLIVAR, W.Va. - Jennie Brook Snyder, 92, of Cheney Street, died Friday, Jan. 23, 1998, at Knott Nursing Home, Charles Town, W.Va.
Born Sept. 8, 1905, in Harpers Ferry, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late John Addison and Mary Fleming Staubs.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Peter Snyder, in 1973.
She was a retired cook with Harpers Ferry High School.
She was a member of Bolivar United Methodist Church.
She was a member of AARP; and Harpers Ferry-Bolivar Satellite of the Senior Citizens.
She is survived by one niece, Peggy Freeman of Bolivar; five nephews, David Staubs of Fort Meyer, Fla., Larry Jones of Millville, W.Va., Donald Noland of Charles Town, Vernon Snyder of Bolivar and Melvin Snyder of Ranson, W.Va.; and great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Rhoda Cooper; and three brothers, Raymond Staubs, Joe Staubs and James Staubs.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, Harpers Ferry, W.Va. The Rev. Daniel L. Montague III will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Lutheran cemetery, Bolivar.
