L. Burdette K. Noll

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - L. Burdette K. Noll, 91, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, March 11, 1998, at Avalon Manor Nursing Home, Hagerstown.

Born Jan. 16, 1907, in Cumberland, Md., she was the daughter of the late Albert and Lillie Ridenour Keplinger.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Irvin Noll.

She was a supervisor at Perfection Garment Co. for 46 years.

She was a life member of Christ Reformed Church.

She was a member of Pythian Sisters; and a life member of Martinsburg Chapter 738 Women of the Moose.

She is survived by one sister, Rita Rhoe of Martinsburg, with whom she resided; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Rufus Keplinger, William Keplinger, Charles Keplinger and Granville Keplinger.

Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. Dr. Thomas E. Hartshorn will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

S. June Coleman

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - S. June Coleman, 78, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, March 11, 1998, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.

Born July 31, 1919, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Kurt and Nellie Schmit Armstrong.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James J. Coleman, in 1992.

She was a 1936 graduate of Martinsburg High School.

She previously had worked as a waitress at Candlelight Club, Martinsburg.

She was a member of Martinsburg Baptist Temple.

She is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Hobday and Deborah Cookus, both of Martinsburg; and three grandchildren, Matthew W. Cookus , Denise A. Cookus and Justin J. Hobday, all of Martinsburg.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Myrtle Althers.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel, 2060 Rosedale cemetery Road, Martinsburg. Pastor Gerald Holdman and Pastor Matthew Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Martinsburg Baptist Temple, 601 N. High St., Martinsburg, W.Va. 25401.

Michael A. Dorr

INWOOD, W.Va. - Michael A. "Mark" Dorr, 34, of Inwood, died Monday, March 9, 1998, at his home.

Born July 29, 1963, in Leesburg, Va., he was the son of Milton A. Dorr Jr. of Camden, Ohio, and Barbara "Bobbie" Lindsey Dorr of Inwood.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Robin R. Clark Dorr; five daughters, Tabatha Lee Dorr, Molly L. Dorr and Samantha J. Dorr, all of Ohio, Shannon R. Dorr and Brooke N. Dorr, both of Inwood; one stepson, James J. Starliper; one sister, Teresa Haines of Inwood; and four brothers, Milton Dorr of Haymarket, Va., John Dorr of Ohio, Rodney Dorr of Inwood and Clinton Dorr of Kearneysville, W.Va.

He was preceded in death by a son, Michael A. Dorr II.

Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. John Divico will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Marmel R. Brown

BURNSVILLE, W.Va. - Marmel Rader Brown, 87, of Burnsville, died Thursday, March 12, 1998, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.

Born May 1, 1910, in Little Otter, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Rosa Lee Simmons Rader and John Rader.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Wesley Brown, in 1987. They were married Dec. 22, 1928.

She was a graduate of Glenville State Teachers College.

She taught for 34 years in the Braxton County public school system.

She attended Burnsville Baptist Church.

She was a member of Burnsville Chapter 55 Order of the Eastern Star, was Worthy Matron from 1950 to 1951, and Grand Esther from 1951 to 1952. She was an honorary member of Grantsville Chapter 73 Order of the Eastern Star; and Weston Chapter 40 Order of the Eastern Star.

She was a charter member of Alpha Iota Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa international honorary sorority for women educators. She also was a member of Retired School Employees.

She is survived by one daughter, Janette Brown of Cheswick, Pa.; one son, John Wesley Brown of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; two sisters, Juanita R. Tanner and Marie R. Costello, both of Rock Springs, Ga.; two brothers, Lanta E. Rader and O.O. "Tink" Rader, both of Gassaway, W.Va.; one granddaughter; one grandson; one great-granddaughter; and one great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by two infant children; and a brother, Garland L. Rader.

Services will be Monday, March 16, at 11 a.m. at Stockert-Gibson Funeral Home, Flatwoods, W.Va. The Rev. Ronzel Roberts will officiate. Burial will be in K. of P. cemetery at Burnsville.

Friends may call Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, where an Eastern Star service will be held at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Burnsville Public Library, Burnsville, W.Va. 26335; or Morgan Student Aid Fund, c/o Jay Redick, Citizens National Bank, 212 S. Washington St., Berkeley Springs, W.Va. 25411.

Warren M. Galloway

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Warren Moore Galloway, 73, of Charles Town, died Wednesday, March 11, 1998, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson W.Va.

Born March 11, 1925, in Greensboro, N.C., he was the son of the late Frank and Ruby Hodges Galloway.

He was a retail salesman in mens haberdashry.

He was a veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Roselea Kidwell Galloway; one son, Michael Warren Galloway of Upper Marlboro, Md.; one sister, Frances Galloway of Martinsburg, W.Va.; one grandson, Michael Jeremy Galloway; and one granddaughter, Mandy Michelle Galloway.

Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at McKee Funeral Home Chapel, Augusta, W.Va. The Rev. Larry Peters will officiate. Burial will be in Wesley Chapel cemetery, Points, W.Va.

The family will receive friends Saturday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Nellie V. Fleming

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Nellie Virginia Merchant Fleming, 74, of Charles Town, died Wednesday, March 11, 1998, at INOVA Fairfax Hospital, Falls Church, Va.

Born Feb. 12, 1924, in Millville, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late George Dewey and Florence Glover Hill Sr.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Preston Merchant, in 1970; and by her second husband, Calvin P. Fleming Sr., in 1985.

She attended Harpers Ferry High School, Harpers Ferry, W.Va.

She was formerly employed with Diamond's Fashions, Charles Town. Earlier, she was associated with Merchant-Noland Chevrolet-Olds Dealership, Charles Town.

She was a member of Zion Episcopal Church, Charles Town, and a former member of the church vestry. She was a delegate to the annual convention of the diocese of West Virginia and worked in the parish kitchen.

She was a volunteer at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson.

She is survived by one daughter, Mary Alice Merchant of Vellejo, Calif.; one son, the Rev. John Edward Merchant of Memphis, Tenn.; one sister, Betty Jane Kisner of Charles Town; two brothers, George Dewey Hill Jr. of Leesburg, Va. and Joseph Daniel Hill of Ithaca, N.Y.; two grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Ida Mary Noland.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Zion Episcopal Church, Charles Town. The Rev. John Bower will officiate. Burial will be in Edge Hill cemetery, Charles Town.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, 310 Fairfax Blvd., Charles Town.

J. "Eber" Moats

NEW CUMBERLAND, W.Va. - J. "Eber" Moats, 87, of New Cumberland; and formerly of 10901 Anthony Highway, Waynesboro, Pa., died Saturday, March 14, 1998, at Weirton Medical Center, Weirton, W.Va.

Born Aug. 17, 1910, in Fairview, Pa., he was the son of the late Henry and Emma C. Creager Moats.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet R. Cook Moats, in 1990. They were married August 1926.

He attended school in Quincy Township, Quincy, Pa.

He was employed as a salesman and an engineer first at Landis Tool Co., Waynesboro from 1938 to 1947 and then at Landis Machine Co., Waynesboro from 1947 until his retirement in 1975. He later worked as a consultant for Castle Machine Co., Greencastle.

He was a member of Otterbein United Brethren in Christ Church, Waynesboro since 1932, where he taught Men's Bible Class and Sunday School. He also was a member of Christian Volunteer Quartet for 15 years.

He is survived by his adopted daughter, Sharon L. Martin of New Cumberland; two sisters, Mary V. Moats, a resident of Quincy United Methodist Home and Annie Lehman of Fairfield, Pa.; five grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Virginia Moats; one son, James Moats, in 1966; one stepson, Robert Moats; two sisters, Rebecca Moats and Cecilia Moats; and three brothers, Omar Moats, William Daniel Moats and Charles Moats.

Services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Otterbein United Brethren in Christ Church, 801 Park St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Michael V. Newman will officiate. Burial will be in Quincy cemetery, Quincy.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.

Eugene P. Snyder

KEYSER, W.Va. - Eugene Porter Snyder, 78, of Jake Staggers Road, died Saturday, March 14, 1998, at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser.

Born Oct. 6, 1919, in Millhein, Pa., he was the son of the late Porter Glen and Hazel E. Plunket Snyder.

He was a graduate of Hancock College of Aeronautics, Santa Maria, Calif.

He was a retired first lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross for heroism during the war.

Following the war, he worked as safety director and personnel manager at Marquette Cement Co. in Hagerstown, retiring in 1977.

He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, Reeses Mill, W.Va..

He was a member of LOOM 662, Keyser; Boyce-Houser Post 41 American Legion, Keyser; Queens Point Memorial Post 6675 VFW, McCoole, Md.; 7th Photo Group Association; and Eighth Air Force Historical Society.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Staggers Snyder; two daughters, Donna Armstrong and Suzanne Short, both of Hagerstown; one son, Thomas Snyder of Virginia; two sisters, Sally Garthwaite of Terre Haute, Ind. and Gladys A. Miller of Ponoka Alberta, Canada; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Centenary United Methodist Church. The Rev. Dallas Forren will officiate. Burial will be in Centenary cemetery, Reeses Mill.

The family will receive friends Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, 85 S. Main St., Keyser. Visitation also will be Tuesday one hour prior to the services at the church.
