MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Goldie M. Howell Magruder, 67, of Martinsburg, died Friday, March 13, 1998, at City Hospital.
Born July 25, 1930, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Albert H. and Mildred L. Wilson Howell.
She was formerly employed at Interwoven Mills and Royce Hosiery.
She formerly attended Pilgrim Presbyterian Church.
She was a member of Ladies Auxiliary Newton D. Baker Post 896 VFW.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda Magruder Pitcock of Nipetown, W.Va., and Debra Wilburn of Martinsburg; one brothers, Nelson C. Howell of Baltimore, and one half-brother, Dennis Howell of Maryland; two sisters, Grace Grote of Toledo, Ohio, Phyllis Pearrell of Martinsburg; half-sister, Alisa Gomez of Martinsburg; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a close friend, Lawrence W. "Larry" Wilt.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. "Bill" Magruder; and one brother, Robert E. Howell.
Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. Pastor Harry E. Grimes will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Charles W. Franklin Sr.
HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Charles Warren Franklin Sr., 73, of Hedgesville, died Saturday, March 14, 1998, at his home.
Born July 23, 1924, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Charles Clayton and Anna Mae Myers Franklin.
He was a member of Providence Church of Hedgesville.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Bowers Franklin; two sons, Charles B. Franklin and Warren D. Franklin, both of Mount Olive, W.Va.; two daughters, Susan L. Edwards and Catherine M. Mills, both of Martinsburg, W.Va.; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three brothers, Larry D. Franklin, Vernon V. Franklin and Preston L. Franklin, all of Hedgesville; three sisters, Clara Mae Franklin Fogal of Dickerson, Md., Mary Franklin James of Martinsburg and Wanda J. Franklin Markley of Hedgesville; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul E. Franklin and Herman L. Franklin.
Services will be Monday at 2:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. Pastor Jack Rudy will officiate. Burial will be in Providence cemetery, Hedgesville, with military graveside services conducted by Newton D. Baker Post 896 VFW; and Berkeley Post 14 American Legion.

Mildred V. Hunter
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Mildred V. Orndorff Hunter, 89, of Martinsburg, died Friday, March 13, 1998, of complications from pneumonia in Washington, D.C., where she had been a resident with her daughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George J. Hunter, in 1964.
She and her husband owned Hunter's Hardware during the 1950s and 1960s; and earlier, they owned Always Restaurant.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
She was a member of Catholic Daughters of America and Church Women United. She also served on Kings Daughters Hospital Circle; and served on the Board of Meals-on-Wheels.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Nash of Washington, D.C.; one brother, Owen Orndorff; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at noon at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. The Rev. John V. DiBacco Jr. will be celebrant. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.
Friends may call Monday from 4 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. A prayer vigil will be at 8 p.m.
Charles E. Plauger Sr.
BUNKER HILL, W.Va. - Charles Edgar Plauger Sr., 55, of Apple Tree Road, died Saturday, March 14, 1998, at his home.
Born Nov. 23, 1942, in Shenandoah County, Va., he was the son of the late Paul Franklin and Evelyn Ophelia McClanahan Plauger.
He was a graduate of Strasburg High School.
He worked as a meat cutter and meat department manager for Food Lion in Leesburg, Va.
He was a member of Paynes Chapel United Methodist Church, Ridgeway, W.Va.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Lee Potts, whom he married Feb. 14, 1990; one son, Charles E. Plauger Jr. of Fort Valley, Va.; three stepchildren, Brian Titus, Kellie Titus and Kasey Titus, all of Bunker Hill; one sister, Betty Wingfield of Winchester, Va.; five brothers, Paul Plauger Jr. of Front Royal, Va., David Plauger, Terry Plauger, Joel Plauger and Zane Plauger, all of Fort Valley; and three granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Bonnie L. Golliday.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Omps Funeral Home, 1600 Amherst St., Winchester. The Rev. Patricia Drake will officiate. Burial will be in Hillsboro cemetery, Hillsboro, Va.

Deloris K. Winstead
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Deloris Kay Winstead, 50, of Berkeley Springs, died Saturday, March 14, 1998, at Morgan County War Memorial Hospital, Berkeley Springs.
Born Dec. 22, 1947, in Berkeley Springs, she was the daughter of the late Roy Edmund and Grace Ethel Gloyd Stotler.
She was a 1965 graduate of Berkeley Springs High School. She studied at James Rumsey Vocational Technical Institute and became a licensed practical nurse.
She was employed by Kings Daughters Hospital and City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va. She was then a social worker with Morgan County Senior Life Services and later a conference coordinator with Coolfont Resort, both in Berkeley Springs. During the 1990s, she was employed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Rockville, Md.
Since mid-1997, she had been pursuing a degree in behavioral health at Shepherd College, Shepherdstown, W.Va., as well as being a homemaker.
She was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by her husband, Dale Eric Winstead Sr.; one daughter, Teri Rene Stotler of Jacksonville, Fla.; one son, Earl Clifton "J.J." Stinebaugh III of Berkeley Springs; one stepdaughter, Tina Jo Winstead of Tucson, Ariz.; two stepsons, Dale Eric Winstead Jr. and Robert Chad Winstead, both of Tucson; two sisters, Brenda D. Farris of Berkeley Springs and Sharla M. Essick of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; one brother, Gregory L. Stotler of Berkeley Springs; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Rosalie M. Healy.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs. The Rev. Henry L. Fisher will officiate. Burial will be in Spohrs Crossroads cemetery.

Floyd Hovermale
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Floyd Hovermale, 91, of Berkeley Springs, died Saturday, March 14, 1998, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.
Born Sept. 28, 1906, in Spohrs Crossroads, Morgan County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Albert and Mamie Michael Hovermale.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Catherine Michael Hovermale, in 1992.
He attended Spohrs Crossroads School.
He retired in 1971 after 45 years of service with the B&O Railroad.
He was a farmer and woodcutter until 1996.
He was a veteran of World War II and served with the U.S. Navy.
He was a member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church, Spohrs Crossroads, where he had served as a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent and lay reader.
He is survived by one daughter, Odessa Hovermale DuVall of Berkeley Springs; one son, Elwood Floyd Hovermale of Berkeley Springs; one sister, Genevieve Hofe of Berkeley Springs; two grandsons; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Hattie R. Cain, Lottie Miller and Lillian Somers; and one brother, William McKinley Hovermale.
Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Mount Zion United Methodist Church, Spohrs Crossroads. The Rev. Joseph Mercer and the Rev. Wayne Frum will officiate. Burial will be in Spohrs Crossroads cemetery.

William D. Nichols
HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - William Douglas Nichols, 52, of Harpers Ferry Campsites, died Saturday, March 14, 1998, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va.
Born Oct. 8, 1945, in Boyds, Montgomery County, Md., he was the son of the late Bradley and Virgie Redmond Nichols.
He retired from Dixie Narco Co. Inc. in Ranson.
He was of the Methodist faith.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam War.
He is survived by one daughter, Robin Nichols of Ranson; seven sisters, Nettie Thomas of Harpers Ferry, Pauline Donaldson of Dickerson, Md., Betty Kilby and Edith Ruh, both of Frederick, Md., Dorothy Ayton of Laytonsville, Md., Mary McGrew of Clarksburg, Md., and Shirley Nichols of Gaithersburg, Md.; one brother, Melvin Nichols of Gaithersburg; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank Nichols, Adolphus Nichols and Bradley Nichols.
Graveside services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Laytonsville cemetery, Laytonsville.
There will be no visitation.

Eugene P. Snyder
KEYSER, W.Va. - Eugene Porter Snyder, 78, of Jake Staggers Road, died Saturday, March 14, 1998, at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser.
Born Oct. 6, 1919, in Millhein, Pa., he was the son of the late Porter Glen and Hazel E. Plunket Snyder.
He was a graduate of Hancock College of Aeronautics, Santa Maria, Calif.
He was a retired first lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross during World War II.
Following the war, he worked as safety director and personnel manager at Marquette Cement Co. in Hagerstown, retiring in 1977.
He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, Reeses Mill, W.Va.
He was a member of LOOM 662, Keyser; Boyce-Houser Post 41 American Legion, Keyser; Queens Point Memorial Post 6675 VFW, McCoole, Md.; 7th Photo Group Association; and Eighth Air Force Historical Society.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Staggers Snyder; two daughters, Donna Armstrong and Suzanne Short, both of Hagerstown; one son, Thomas Snyder of Virginia; two sisters, Sally Garthwaite of Terre Haute, Ind., and Gladys A. Miller of Ponoka, Alberta, Canada; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Centenary United Methodist Church. The Rev. Dallas Forren will officiate. Burial will be in Centenary cemetery, Reeses Mill.
The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, 85 S. Main St., Keyser. Visitation also will be Tuesday one hour prior to the services at the church.
