HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Lonnie Audis Anderson, 72, of Route 4, died Sunday, April 5, 1998, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Feb. 5, 1926, in Erwin, W.Va., he was the son of the late Charles Hampton Anderson Sr., and Myrtle Lantz Anderson.
He was a retired mechanic with Millville Quarry in Millville, W.Va., and formerly employed by Peoples Supply in Charles Town, W.Va.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 948 in Charles Town, and Shelbourne Parish Post 293 American Legion in Purcellville, Va.
He is survived by his wife, Sidney Anderson; one daughter, Angie Thompson of Harpers Ferry; three sons, Gene Anderson and Mike Anderson, both of Ranson, W.Va., and Jimmy Anderson, at home; six brothers, Austin E. Anderson of Culpeper, Va., Roscoe J. Anderson of York, Pa., Charles H. Anderson Jr. of Lucketts, Va., and Donald R. Anderson of Winchester, Va., Thurman D. Anderson of Hedgesville, W.Va., and Larry J. Anderson of Lexington, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Irene Anderson and Mabel Riley; and one brother, Tommy Anderson.
Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Shannondale Springs Baptist Church, Mission Road, Harpers Ferry. The Rev. Porky Jones, the Rev. Frank Nick and the Rev. Mike Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens in Martinsburg.
The family will receive friends at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home in Harpers Ferry, today and Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

James B. Jenkins
RIPPON, W.Va. - James Bryan Jenkins, 60, of Wheatland Farm, died Monday, April 6, 1998, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson, W.Va.
Born Jan. 23, 1938, in Colmar Manor, Md., he was the son of Meriam H. Mitchell Jenkins of Oak Hill Farm, Rippon, and the late James F. Jenkins.
He was a graduate of Northwestern High School in College Park, Md.
For the past 10 years, he was an owner and breeder of thoroughbred race horses at his Wheatland Farm in Rippon. He previously was vice president of contracts for the Cubic Corp., an electronics firm in San Diego.
He was an Episcopalian.
He was a member of the board of directors of the West Virginia Breeders Association and the HBPA, Charles Town Division.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 10 years, Linda M. Banning Jenkins; three sons, Ron Jenkins of North Carolina, James Jenkins of Oceanside, Calif., and David Jenkins of Ranson; a sister, Hilda V. Wingerd of Boonsboro; a brother, Charles S. Jenkins of Rippon; four grandchildren; and two nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church in Rippon. The Rev. Edward Greene will officiate. Burial will be private.
There will be no visitation.

Constance M. Adelsberger
FALLING WATERS, W.Va. - Constance "Connie" Marie Clarke Adelsberger, 56, of Falling Waters, died Sunday, April 5, 1998, at City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Aug. 31, 1941, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of Betty Stull Clarke of Frederick, Md., and the late Charles Clarke.
She was a 1959 graduate of Thurmont High School.
She was a typesetter for Quality Composition in Baltimore.
In addiltion to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Richard Leo Adelsberger of Falling Waters; a daughter, Nadatie Anne Adelsberger of Falling Waters; two sons, John Cabot Adelsberger, with the U.S. Air Force in England, and Mark Eric Adelsberger of Westminster, Md.; a sister, Marsha Shriner of Emmitsburg, Md.; and four grandchildren.
Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Skiles Funeral Home in Emmitsburg, Md. The Rev. Michael J. Kennedy will officiate. Burial will be in New St. Joseph's cemetery in Emmitsburg.
Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m., where a rosary will be said at 8 p.m.
Mathew V. Catanese
HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Mathew V. Catanese, 85, of 701 Washington St., and formerly of Rochester, Pa., died Monday, April 6, 1998, at his son's home in Harpers Ferry.
Born Sept. 20, 1912, in Rochester, he was the son of the late Antonio and Assunta Cuccinelli Catanese.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Shutey Catanese, in 1977.
He graduated from Rochester High School, where he played football on the 1929 championship team.
He was one of the founders of Shasta Holding Co. at Rochester, where he was vice president until his retirement in 1981.
He was of the Catholic faith.
He is survived by two daughters, Sundie Grad of Lake Forest, Ill. and Mimi Siegle of Pittsburgh; two sons, Mathew Catanese of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Anthony Catanese of Harpers Ferry; two sisters, Francis Siriani of Hollidaysburg, Pa., and Carmel Baycura of Rochester; three brothers, Frank Catanese of Ellwood City, Pa., Charles Catanese of Costa Mesa, Calif., and Joe Catanese of Grand Blanc, Mich.; and 12 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Sam Catanese.
Service will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Murphy Funeral Home, Rochester. Burial will be in St. Cecilia cemetery, Rochester.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home, Rochester.

Medford K. Dawson
GREAT CACAPON, W.Va. - Medford Kenneth Dawson, 79, of Great Cacapon, died Tuesday, April 7, 1998, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.
Born Aug. 15, 1918, in Great Cacapon, he was the son of the late Horatio and Clara Youngblood Dawson.
He was an engineer for the Patapsco and Back River Railroad, stationed at Sparrows Point, Md. until his retirement in 1981.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He was a member of Risinger-Stotler VFW Post 4019, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred Marie Castel Dawson; a nephew whom he and his wife raised, Philip Clark of Baltimore; a sister, Mabel Whisner of Great Cacapon; three brothers, Alfred Dawson and George Dawson, both of Baltimore, and Lee Dawson of Harrisburg, Pa.; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Dawson Farris; and a brother, Edgar Dawson.
Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs, W.Va. The Rev. Hennis H. Fox will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Nebo cemetery, Great Cacapon.
The family will receive friends Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will be open Friday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Elsie K. Baird
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Elsie Kyle Foley Baird, 78, of Integrated Health Services, and formerly of Tuscawilla Hills, Charles Town, died Tuesday, April 7, 1998, at Integrated Health Services.
Born Feb. 2, 1920, in Berryville, Va., she was the daughter of the late Clinton Kyle and Effie Hardesty Foley.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Capt. Leonard J. Baird, in 1997.
She was a graduate of Berryville High School, Berryville, Va.; and Frederick, Md. School of Nursing in 1942.
She was a homemaker. Before that, she had served 11 years as a nurse with the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War.
She was a member of Charles Town Presbyterian Church.
She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution and Garden Club of Charles Town.
She is survived by a daughter, Terry Baird Jones of Virginia Beach, Va.; a son, James Foley Baird of Virginia Beach; a sister, Edith Davenport Foley of Berryville; a brother, H. Warden Foley of Alexandria, Va.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Jane Bowerman.
Memorial services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, 310 Fairfax Blvd., Charles Town. The Rev. William Everhart will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery, DeWitt, Iowa.
There will be no visitation.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Annie H. Mumaw, 57, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, April 7, 1998, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.
Born July 7, 1940, in Stevenson, Ala., she was the daughter of the late Charlie C. and Lela Mae Allen Hicks.
She is survived by a daughter, Betty A. Saville of Martinsburg; a son, Johnny C. Morgan, at home; a stepdaughter, Deborah Saunders of Hagerstown; a stepson, Timothy Mumaw of Falling Waters, W.Va.; two brothers, Robert Hicks and David Hicks, both of Montgomery, Ala.; two grandchildren, and six stepgrandchildren.
Services will be Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. Pastor Michael Lowrey will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

Born Aug. 3, 1952, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of Evelyn Hall Salyers and the late Malcolm Crockett.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Cummings Crockett; three sons, Gabriel Lee Crockett of North Carolina, Michael Lewis Crockett, at home, and Christopher Lindsey Crockett of Baltimore; and his stepfather, William Salyers.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - William Harry Gerken, 93, of Martinsburg, died Friday, April 10, 1998, at his home.
Born July 10, 1904, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late Wilhelm and Anna Dieckmann Gerken.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Mullarkey Gerken; two sons, Bruce Gerken of Martinsburg and William R. Gerken of Tucson, Ariz.; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Wilma Dreher and Helen Swan.
