Harry L. Tabler

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Harry Louis Tabler, 71, of Shepherdstown, died Saturday, April 11, 1998, at his home.

Born Sept. 14, 1926, in Shepherdstown, he was the son of the late Daniel Harvey and Lola Virginia Walker Tabler.

He was a graduate of Shepherdstown High School.

A U.S. Navy veteran, he served during World War II in the Pacific Campaign. He also was in the atomic testing program at Bikini Atoll.

He retired in 1995 from Halltown Paperboard Co., Halltown, W.Va. Prior to that, he was a dairy farmer. He and his father, D.H. Tabler operated Tri-County Sinclair Distributorship. He also had been employed with D. Lee Morgan Construction Co., Shepherdstown; and as a security guard at Shenandoah Downs Race Track.

He was of the Protestant faith.

He was a member of Sharpsburg American Legion Post 236, Sharpsburg; AARP; U.S.S. Saratoga Association; and a former member of Jefferson County Democratic Executive Committee.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Louise Orr Tabler; three daughters, Lois M. Jones and Mary Elizabeth Tabler, both of Shepherdstown, and Anita Gail Tabler Masquat of Winchester, Va.; one son, John William Tabler of Hedgesville, W.Va.; four grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Daniel Walker Tabler.

Services and burial will be private.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, 310 Fairfax Blvd., Charles Town, W.Va.

There will be no viewing.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, 2015 Boyd Orchard Court, Martinsburg, W.Va. 25401; or Shepherdstown Fire Department, P.O. Box F, Shepherdstown, W.Va. 25443.

Nota E. Albert

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Nota Edwards Albert, 85, of Martinsburg, died Sunday, April 12, 1998, at Heartland of Martinsburg.

Born March 12, 1913, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Guy and Nellie Leonard Edwards.

She was a 1932 graduate of Martinsburg High School.

She worked in the office of the late William Downey and Dr. Elizabeth McFetridge.

She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Douglas J. Albert; one sister, Frances Keller of Martinsburg; one niece, Betty Brown of Laurel, Md.; one nephew, Wallace Reynolds of Kearneysville, W.Va.; and great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Ivadine Reynolds.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. William Merki will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Charles R. Waugh

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Charles Raymond Waugh, 86, of Berkeley Springs, died Monday, April 13, 1998, at Valley View Nursing Home, Berkeley Springs.

Born April 15, 1911, in Morgan County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Charles Oliver and Rosie Belle Purnell Waugh.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Audra Kathryn Iden Waugh, in 1987.

He attended grade school in Morgan County.

He retired in 1965 as a heavy equipment operator with Western Maryland Railroad.

He was of the Protestant faith.

He is survived by one daughter, Ruthalean Myers of Woodbury, N.J.; three sons, Lewis R. Waugh Sr. of Berkeley Springs, Robert "Larry" Waugh of Hedgesville, W.Va., and Roger D. Waugh of East Berlin, Pa.; one sister, Ada V. Waugh of Berkeley Springs; 16 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lola M. Ambrose and Margaret L. Youngblood; and one brother, James Waugh.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs. The Rev. Henry L. Fisher will officiate. Burial will be in Greenway cemetery, Berkeley Springs.

The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs. The funeral home will be open today from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Polly M. Kitchen

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Polly May Kitchen, 82, of Martinsburg, died Sunday, April 12, 1998, at Care Haven of Berkeley.

Born May 7, 1915, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Charles E. and Flora Canby Myers.

She was formerly a seasonal employee at C.H. Musselman Co.

She was a member of Bethel Assembly of God Church.

She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Edgar James Kitchen; one daughter, Charlotte Maxine Schutterle of Ladora, Iowa; four sons, Robert Allen Kitchen Sr. and Ray Lee Kitchen Sr., both of Martinsburg, Homer Lake Kitchen of Gerrardstown, W.Va., and John Wesley Kitchen of Gainesville, Va.; four sisters, Sally Etta Greenfield of Butlers Chapel, W.Va., Edna L. Shanks and Bessie M. Barrett, both of Martinsburg, and Ada F. Faircloth of Gerrardstown, W.Va.; two brothers, Cecil Allen Myers and Charles J. Myers, both of Martinsburg; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, James Edward Kitchen; and nine sisters, Laxie Myers, Esther Myers, Alpha Myers, Martha Kief, Mary Butts, Mazie Rickard, Nancy Everhart, Florence Faircloth and Peggy Shifflett.

Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Arnold F. Brown and the Rev. Harold L. Hess will officiate. Burial will be in Central Chapel cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Bethel Assembly of God Church, P.O. Box 2369, Martinsburg, W.Va. 25401.

Helen F. Montgomery

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Helen Florence Montgomery, 77, of Berkeley Springs, died Sunday, April 12, 1998, at Morgan County War Memorial Hospital.

Born May 12, 1920, in Morgan County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Floyd E. and Laura A. Fritzman Cain.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Augustus R. Montgomery, in 1980.

She retired from Barr-Stoffard, Baltimore.

She was of the Protestant faith.

She is survived by one sister, Gladys V. Douglas of Hedgesville, W.Va.; five brothers, Virgil D. Cain, Glenn R. Cain and Stanley L. Cain, all of Berkeley Springs, and Lester C. Cain and Ercel V. Cain, both of Martinsburg, W.Va.; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Zella R. Cain; and three brothers, Lawrence E. Cain, Hammond L. Cain and Raymond F. Cain.

Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home, 106 S. Mercer St., Berkeley Springs. Nancy Duerling will officiate. Burial will be in Greenway cemetery.

The family will receive friends today and Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral home will be open Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Evelyn J. Smith

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Evelyn Jane Smith, 78, of Martinsburg, died Monday, April 13, 1998, at her home.

Born March 6, 1920, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late Harry W. and Mabel Ellen Chapman Sencindiver.

She was a 1938 graduate of Martinsburg High School. She attended nurse's training at Kings Daughter's Hospital.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where she was on the altar guild; and was chairwoman of the flower committee.

She was a past president of Junior Civic League; Gateway Garden Club; Berkeley County Chapter of the American Red Cross; and Martinsburg Jayceettes. She was a past member of War Memorial Park Association Board of Directors and Meals on Wheels.

In 1953, she received the "First Lady Award" given by Beta Sigma Phi sorority for community service.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Clyde E. Smith Jr.; one daughter, Candace S. Borger of Martinsburg, one son, Clyde E. Smith III of Martinsburg; four granddaughters; one grandson; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Marjorie Ellen Merchant and Harriet Elizabeth Ways.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church. The Rev. James D. Riley Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Willoughby E. Henshaw Sr.

MIDDLEWAY, W.Va. - Willoughby Engle "Bill" Henshaw Sr., 74, of Middleway, died Sunday, April 12, 1998, at the home of his daughter in Williamsburg, Va.

Born July 30, 1923, in Jefferson County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Charles Calvin and Beulah Engle Henshaw.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Dorothy Lemen Henshaw, in 1996.

He was a graduate of Charles Town High School, Charles Town, W.Va.

He was owner and operator of Wilbob Farm in Middleway, W.Va.

He was a member of Charles Town Presbyterian Church, Charles Town, W.Va, where he was a deacon and elder.

He was a member of Adam Stephen Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution; Tri-Luminar Masonic Lodge 117, Middleway, W.Va.; Jefferson County Fair Association; West Virginia Holstein Association; Jefferson County Historical Society; Jefferson County Farm Bureau; and former director and member of SIRE POWER.

He is survived by one daughter, Kathryn H. Lykins of Williamsburg, Va.; two sons, Robert C. "Bobby" Henshaw of Middleway and Willoughby E. "Bill" Henshaw Jr. of Hermosa Beach, Calif.; one sister, Betty Lou Kearney of Shepherdstown, W.Va.; one brother, Marion Henshaw of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Charles Town Presbyterian Church. The Rev. William G. Everhart and the Rev. Lisa W. Everhart will officiate. Burial will be in Edge Hill cemetery, Charles Town.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, 310 Fairfax Blvd., Charles Town.

Margaret A. Weber

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Margaret A. Weber, 93, of Berkeley Springs, died Monday, April 13, 1998, at her home.

Born Oct. 20, 1904, in Morgan County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Charles P. and Mary Cavanaugh Ambrose.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon H. Weber, in 1981.

She was a 1922 graduate of Bath District High School.

She worked as a clerk in Berkeley Springs Post Office for 12 years prior to her marriage.

She was a life member of St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church, where she was an organist and Sunday school teacher. In 1987, she was named "Mother of the Year" by the local parish. She was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society.

She was a charter member of Morgan County War Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, where she served for 20 years as chairwoman of the Memorial Fund.

She was a charter member of Berkeley Springs Woman's Club, and under that sponsorship organized and led the first Girl Scout Troop in Berkeley Springs. She was den mother for a cub scout troop.

She is survived by her daughter, Sister Mary Margaret Weber, CSC; a son, Stephen A. Weber of Charleston, W.Va.; and three grandchildren, Constance Weber Engle, Alexander Weber and Andrew Weber.

Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church. The Rev. Chester Michael will be celebrant. Burial will be in Greenway cemetery.

The viewing will be today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home, 106 S. Mercer St., Berkeley Springs. A vigil will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Morgan County Rescue Service or Berkeley Springs Volunteer Fire Department.
