LEETOWN, W.Va. - James Luther "Jimmy" Jenkins, 58, of Bower Farm, Bower Road, died Wednesday, May 20, 1998, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va.
Born Oct. 31, 1939, in Summit Point, W.Va., he was the son of Hazel Mills Jenkins of Summit Point and the late Luther Jenkins.
He previously was employed by Robert F. Zeigler Co., Winchester, Va., as a backhoe operator.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He was a former member of Engineering Local 77 Union. He was a member of the National Guard, Berryville, Va., where he received an honorable discharge.
He is survived by his wife, Judy L. Jenkins of Rippon, W.Va.; one son, Richard J. "Ritchie" Jenkins of Leetown; 10 sisters, Florance Sowers of Ranson, Juanita Schwatzmann of Bowie, Md., Nancy Renner, Patsy Runion, Gloria Bernardo, Geraldine Harris and Linda Jenkins, all of Kearneysville, W.Va., Betsy Lloyd of Roundhill, Va., Joyce Sager of Charles Town, W.Va., and Louise Gaffney of West Virginia; two brothers, Robert Jenkins of San Antonio, Texas, and Thomas Jenkins of Summit Point; two grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Louis Jenkins.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Ranson, Leetown Pike, Leetown. Pastor Mike Withem will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill cemetery, Berryville, Va.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, 310 Fairfax Blvd., Charles Town.
Lester E. Turner
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Lester Eugene Turner, 68, of Charles Town, died Friday, May 22, 1998, at his home.
Born Nov. 23, 1929, in Inwood, W.Va., he was the son of the late Joseph J. and Hattie A. Shirley Turner.
He attended Jefferson County schools.
He retired after 26 years with Mack Trucks Inc., Hagerstown. He previously was employed with Powhatan Brass and Iron Works in Ranson, W.Va., for seven years; and at the time of his death, was associated with Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home in Ranson for eight years.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, where he received the Army of Occupation Medal (Japan).
He attended Trinity Gospel Assembly of God Church.
He was a member of Knights of Pythias, Blue Ridge Lodge 131, Ranson; Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 948 and Jackson-Perks American Legion Post 71, both in Charles Town; National AARP; and a retired member of United Auto Workers.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Janet Maye Turner; three sisters, Virginia Miller, Betty Milburn and Wanda Turner, all of Middleway, W.Va.; four brothers, Ray Turner, Paul Turner and Marvin Turner, all of Middleway, and Melvin Turner of Charles Town; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Barnes and Mary Long; and one brother, Joseph W. Turner.
Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Trinity Gospel Assembly of God Church, W.Va. 9 West, Charles Town. The Rev. John Divico will officiate. Burial will be in Edge Hill cemetery in Charles Town.
Friends will be received at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home in Charles Town, Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.

HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - James Nelson Fritts, 78, of Locust Grove Home, died Friday, May 22, 1998, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va.
Born Aug. 11, 1919, in Jefferson County, W.Va., he was the son of the late George William and Clara Estelle Flemings Fritts.
He was employed by Baker Penwell in the hauling and stone business.
He was a member of Murrill Hill United Methodist Church, Harpers Ferry.
He is survived by one stepdaughter, Gladys L. Hileman of Harpers Ferry; three sisters, Edna E. Dodge and Dorothy E. Woodward, both of Martinsburg, and Grace F. Rowland of Kabletown, W.Va.; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Nina May Willingham, Katherine Welch and Cora Fritts; and three brothers, Clarence Fritts, Fleming Fritts and George Fritts.
A graveside memorial service will be held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at Murrill Hill United Methodist Church cemetery in Harpers Ferry. Pastor Dale Williams will officiate.
There will be no visitation.

HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - James Mellinger "Jim" Hyde Sr., 62, of John Brown Farm, died Thursday, May 21, 1998, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va.
Born Nov. 23, 1935, in Baltimore, he was the son of Sadye E. Henry Hyde of Berlin, Md., and the late Jacob M. Hyde.
He was a graduate of City College High School in Baltimore.
He retired from Amtrak.
He was a security guard at Jefferson Memorial Hospital and served as a deputy sheriff in Jefferson County, W.Va. He also was a free-lance photographer.
He was a Protestant
He was a life member and certified instructor with the NRA, member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 948 in Charles Town, W.Va., and Shannondale Club, LTD in Harpers Ferry, and a former president of Shannondale Gun Club.
He is survived by a daughter, Debbi Lynn White of Vancleve, Ky.; a son, James M. Hyde Jr. of Austin, Texas; a sister, Toni DeCarlo of Berlin; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, James Michael Hyde.
Services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town. Debbi L. White will officiate. Burial will be in St. Andrews on the Mount cemetery, Harpers Ferry.
Friends will be received at the funeral home Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and one hour prior to services on Tuesday.

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Charles Frederick Myers, 76, of Charles Town, died Monday, May 25, 1998, at his son's home in Brookeville, Md.
Born July 17, 1921, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late G.D. Frederick and Elvina Brashear Myers.
He attended Harpers Ferry High School, Harpers Ferry, W.Va.
He retired, after 38 years, as general manager of Jones-Laughlin Steel Co. of Blair-Limestone Division, Millville, W.Va.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He received the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Unit Award and Victory Medal World War II.
He was a member of Shenandoah Junction (W.Va.) Ruritan Club.
He was a member of Jefferson County Chapter Gideons International.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Elizabeth I. Hill Myers; one daughter, Kay M. Walker of Manassas, Va.; one son, Donald L. Myers of Brookeville; one sister, Pearl M. Longerbeam of Millville; two grandchildren; one great-grandson; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Eunice M. Goode; and two brothers, Norman M. Myers and Glenn R. Myers.

INWOOD, W.Va. - Victor Wendell Shrader Sr., 73, of Inwood, died Monday, May 25, 1998, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born July 13, 1924, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Edward Franklin and Mary Edith Blake Shrader.
He was a 1942 graduate of Martinsburg High School and a graduate of Shepherd College.
He was associated with J.C. Penney Co.
A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Navy.
He was a member of First Baptist Church.
He is survived by two daughters, Jane Anne Lewis of Inwood, and Sherry Lynn Dunham of Glengary, W.Va.; one son, Victor Wendell Shrader Jr. of Debary, Fla.; one sister, Rosemary Mauck of Martinsburg, W.Va.; one brother, Frank Shrader of Lighthouse Point, Fla.; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Shrader.
Services will be Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Mark D. Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Donna I. Powers, 42, of Hedgesville, died Saturday, May 23, 1998, at her home.
Born Dec. 9, 1955, in Morgan County, W.Va., she was the daughter of Donald Fisher of Inwood, W.Va., and the late Edna Younker Fisher.
She was a 1974 graduate of Musselman High School.
She was a member of Hedgesville Assembly of God Church.
In addition to her father, she is survived by one daughter, Ashley Nicole Powers, at home; and three brothers, Terry R. Fisher of Front Royal, Va., David W. Fisher of Hedgesville and Larry D. Fisher of Bloomery, W.Va.
Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Hedgesville Assembly of God Church. The Rev. Louis Whitford will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.
