Robert L. Cunningham

HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Robert L. Cunningham, 84, of Harpers Ferry, died Tuesday, May 26, 1998, at John Knox Village Medical Center, Orange City, Fla.

Born Feb. 11, 1914, in Weston, W.Va., he was the son of the late John E. and Flossie Powell Cunningham.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Cunningham, in 1965.

He retired as a steamfitter for heating, piping and refrigeration, in Washington, D.C.

He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was of the Baptist faith.

He was a member of Steamfitters Local 602, Washington, D.C.; Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 948, Charles Town, W.Va.; and Shannondale Club.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Louise Jordan Cunningham; three sons, Thomas L. Cunningham of Silver Spring, Robert L. Cunningham of Lubbock, Texas, and John B. Cunningham of Callaway, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Nioga V. Mills of Williamsport; one sister, Jean Lyon of Bridgeport, Md.; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Lucille Boyles; and two brothers, Joseph Cunningham and James Cunningham.

Memorial graveside services will be held at a later date at Arlington National cemetery, Arlington, Va.

There will be no visitation.

Arrangements are by Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town, W.Va.

Alice D. Catrow

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Alice Drucilla "Sis" Catrow, 81, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, May 26, 1998, at her home.

Born Nov. 20, 1916, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late Leslie E. and Mary C. Moberly Stein.

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church; and Philathea Women's Class of the church. She was a member of Rosemont Grace Brethren Church for eight years. Most recently, she was a member of Martinsburg Baptist Temple.

She was a member of Tuscarora Farm Women's Club; she was active with the local PTA; Boy Scouts; and 4-H clubs, of which her children were members.

She is survived by her husband, J. Glenville "Pete" Catrow; one daughter, Belinda D. Eidsness of Martinsburg; three sons, Glenville Leslie Catrow, Robert Douglas Catrow and Drew Clinton Catrow, all of Martinsburg; one sister, Ellouise Huspdith of Martinsburg; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Melvin L. Stein, C. Willard Stein and William E. Stein.

Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. Matthew D. Miller and the Rev. R. Shawn Edwards will officiate. Burial will be private in Rosedale cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Martinsburg Baptist Temple, 601 N. High St., Martinsburg, W.Va. 25401.

Charles H. Spiker

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Charles Hugh Spiker, 81, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, May 27, 1998, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.

Born Sept. 20, 1916, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Arthur L. and Anna Rachel Ruble Spiker.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane Higgins Spiker.

He was a retired barber from the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg. He was formerly employed at Fairchild Aircraft.

He was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church.

He was a member of Martinsburg Lodge 120; Loyal Order of Moose; and Berkeley Post 14, American Legion.

He is survived by one sister, Mary Anna Spiker Heck of Martinsburg; nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, Homer Spiker, Ward Spiker, Marshall Spiker, Delmont Spiker and Vernon Spiker.

Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Arlene R. Carr will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mildred S. Hutsler

GLENGARY, W.Va. - Mildred Shade Hutsler, 91, of Glengary, died Thursday, May 28, 1998, at Valley View Nursing Home, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

Born March 1, 1907, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Alvin and Mary Ellen Whitacre Shade.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alston Hutsler.

She was a seasonal employee of C.H. Musselman Co. and had been employed at Interwoven Mills.

She is survived by a son, Kenneth Hutzler of Gerrardstown, W.Va.; 11 grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sons, Alston Hutsler Jr., Eugene Hutsler and Robert Hutsler.

Services will be Monday, June 1, at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg, W.Va. The Rev. Harold O. Snyder will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Carmel cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

Paul E. Miller Jr.

KEARNEYSVILLE, W.Va. - Paul Everette Miller Jr., 79, of Kearneysville, died Friday, May 29, 1998, at his home.

Born Sept. 28, 1918, he was the son of the late Paul Everette and Kathleen Henkle Miller.

He was a 1936 graduate of Martinsburg High School and a 1940 graduate of Shepherd College, where he pitched for the baseball team. He had the only no-hit game in Shepherd College history.

He served in the U.S. Army, where he spent several years in China-Burma-India Theater.

He was an auctioneer, broker and real estate agent. He also had a real estate brokerage firm with Francis Frye in Ranson, W.Va.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Frances Trimble Miller; six children, Susan M. Banker of Washington, D.C., Paul E. Miller III of Lovettsville, Va., Sarah M. Pentony, Martha M. Crouse and Ellen M. Smoot, all of Kearneysville, and Laura M. Glenn of Charles Town, W.Va.; two brothers, Charles H. Miller of Kearneysville and Gilbert B. Miller of Martinsburg; 12 grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Services will be private. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

The family will receive friends today and Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Miller home in Kearneysville.

Memorial donations may be made to Children's Hospital, National Medical Center, 111 Michigan Ave., Washington, D.C. 20010.

Wilson W. Lord

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Wilson Woodrow Lord, 80, of Martinsburg, died Thursday, May 28, 1998, at City Hospital.

Born Sept. 29, 1917, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Edgar L. and Jessie Henreitta Lord.

A truck driver, he retired from O'Boyle Trucking.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army.

He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church.

He was a member of Teamsters Union 992.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gladys May McKee Lord; three sisters, Jean C. Luttrell of Altamonte Springs, Fla., Eleanor I. Riley of Inwood, W.Va. and Betty Ruth Bowen of Columbus, Ohio; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Henreitta M. Webber and Edith L. Corby; two half sisters; and four half brothers.

Services will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Al Clipp will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends today from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Calvin L. Rickel

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Calvin Lee "Skeets" Rickel, 72, of Martinsburg, died Friday, May 29, 1998, at City Hospital.

Born Sept. 30, 1925, in Martinsburg, he was the son of the late Charles and Ruth Jones Rickel.

He retired from Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps.

He is survived by his wife, Nellie Locke Rickel; a son, Richard "Dick" Owens of Inwood, W.Va.; two sisters, Peggy Unger and Rose Foltz, both of Martinsburg; five brothers, Paul Rickel, Raymond Rickel, Robert Rickel and Donald Rickel, all of Martinsburg, and Charles Rickel of Wisconsin; two granddaughters; a great-grandson and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Ann Butts.

Services will be private.

The family will receive friends at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, 2015 Boyd Orchard Court, Martinsburg, W.Va. 25401.

Alisa C. Hess

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Alisa Catherine Hess, infant daughter of Franklin Herbert II and Jennifer Blanche Baker Hess of Berkeley Springs, died Thursday, May 28, 1998, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by a brother, Franklin Herbert Hess III of Berkeley Springs; paternal grandparents, Frank and Barbara Hess of Berkeley Springs; paternal great-grandmother, Catherine O. Wilson of Berkeley Springs; maternal great-grandmother, Sandra E. Turner of Berkeley Springs; maternal great-great-grandmother, Audrey Egnor of Berkeley Springs; aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by maternal grandmother, Lisa L. Johnson; paternal great-grandfather, James C. Wilson; and great-grandparents, William and Maude Hess.

Services will be held Monday at 6 p.m. at Mount Olivet United Methodist Church. The Rev. Mary G. Stevens will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to services on Monday.

Arrangements are by Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs.
