G. Kay Reed

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - G. Kay Reed, 59, of Hedgesville, died Thursday, July 2, 1998, at City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born Feb. 18, 1939, in Hedgesville, she was the daughter of the late Louis L. and Claudia Townsend Dirting.

She was a 1957 graduate of Hedgesville High School.

She owned and operated Hair Den.

She is survived by her husband, Jackson H. Reed; two daughters, Teri M. Ruppenthal of Martinsburg and Joyce Williamson of Clarksburg, W.Va.; two sons, Craig Reed of Hedgesville and Jeremy L. Reed of Bedington, W.Va.; two brothers, Lemuel Wayne Dirting of San Diego and Larry Townsend Dirting of Martinsburg; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Services will be Monday at 2:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Dean E. Metcalfe Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Hedgesville cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ashleigh J. Gaither

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Ashleigh Jordan Gaither, 2, of Berkeley Springs, died Friday, July 3, 1998, at Morgan County War Memorial Hospital, Berkeley Springs.

Born May 18, 1996, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va., she was the daughter of Nelson Howard and Trisha Lynn Holmes Gaither of Great Cacapon, W.Va.

She was of the Methodist faith.

She was a social member, with her parents, of Alderton-Dawson American Legion Post 60, Berkeley Springs.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by maternal grandparents, Grace Howard Holmes of Berkeley Springs and Robert Holmes of Wynne, Ariz.; paternal grandmother, Alice Youngblood Gaither of Hancock; maternal great-grandparents, Roseanna Clayton Rankin of Berkeley Springs, and Raymond Howard of Moundsville, W.Va.; aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by paternal grandfather, Bernard Gaither; maternal great-grandparents, Paul "Sam" Rankin, Roy F. and Mary Ann Riggins Holmes; paternal great-grandparents, Otis and Agnes Gaither, Arthur and Rosie Youngblood.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs. The Rev. Roger E. Burtner will officiate. Burial will be in Friendship cemetery, Berkeley Springs.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral home will be open Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Ashleigh Jordan Gaither Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 37, Great Cacapon, W.Va. 25422.

Mervin E. Roderick

KABLETOWN, W.Va. - Mervin Eugene Roderick, 71, of Avon Hill Farms, died Saturday, July 4, 1998, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, Md.

Born Sept. 27, 1926, in Charles Town, W.Va., he was the son of Rose Grimm Roderick of Kabletown and the late Elmer E. Roderick.

He was a 1944 graduate of Charles Town High School.

He owned and operated Avon Hill Farms, a dairy operation, for more than 50 years.

He was a veteran of World War II and served with the U.S. Army Air Force.

He was a member of Kabletown United Methodist Church.

He was a member of Malta Masonic Lodge 80 AF&AM, Charles Town, where he received the 32nd degree; and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 948, Charles Town.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by four daughters, Marlyn Keesecker of Martinsburg, W.Va., Bettrina Truitt of Shannondale, Harpers Ferry, W.Va., Lorilei Roderick of Frederick and Debra J. Roderick-Kirk of Kabletown; one son, Mervin E. Roderick II of Kabletown; two sisters, Alice Ann Wilt and Jane R. Stone, both of Charles Town; one brother, Elmer Lee Roderick of Ashburn, Va.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; nieces and nephews; and close friend and companion, Irene Holida of Martinsburg.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Daniel D. Roderick and Ronald M. Roderick.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town. The Rev. Melissa Simpson will officiate. Burial will be in Edge Hill cemetery, Charles Town.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Kabletown United Methodist Church, c/o Betty White, 307 Peartree Court, Charles Town, W.Va. 25414.

Lloyd A. Fuller

VALRICO, Fla. - Lloyd Adrian Fuller, 75, of Valrico, died Saturday, July 4, 1998, at his home.

A native of Gladesville, W.Va., he came to the Tampa, Fla., area in 1985 from Boonsboro.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II.

He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Brandon, Fla.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Geraldine Fuller; two daughters, Arlene Cole of Valrico and Caryn S. Langer of Gilbert, Ariz.; one son, William Alan Fuller of Boonsboro; one sister, Bette Hurst of Rapid City, S.D.; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Hillsboro Memorial Funeral Home, 2323 W. Brandon Blvd., Brandon. Pastor Paull Dixon will officiate. Entombment will be Hillsboro Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made in his memory to LifePath Hospice, 3010 W. Azeele St., Tampa, Fla. 33609.

Mildred E. Mitton

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Mildred E. Mitton, 92, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, July 4, 1998, at her home.

Born Aug. 2, 1906, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Edgar Lee and Ella Latham Smith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond L. Mitton.

She was a 1924 graduate of Martinsburg High School.

She was formerly employed by Bell Atlantic Telephone Co.

She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church.

She was a member of the Berkeley Historical Society.

She is survived by nieces and nephews, including Lucy Smith, Mike Smith, Shelley Stull and Philip Douglass.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Charlotte Douglas and Ella Smith; and three brothers, E. Latham Smith, Robert Sheldon Smith and Wayne Smith.

Private graveside services will be held in Masonic cemetery in Middleway, W.Va. The Rev. Jack Sutor will officiate.

Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.

Florence E. Brown

GERRARDSTOWN, W.Va. - Florence E. Brown, 99, of Gerrardstown, died Saturday, July 4, 1998, at her home.

Born Jan. 12, 1899, in England, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Amelia Wilson Hennin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward P. Brown.

She was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church, Inwood, W.Va.

She is survived locally by a niece, Marjorie Hogan of Gerrardstown; and one great-niece.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Amelia Hennin.

The family will receive friends at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg, today from 7 to 9 p.m., where a rosary will be said at 8 p.m. by the Rev. Brian Shoda.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Meehan Funeral Home, 555 Warren St., Spring Lake, N.J. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday two hours prior to the service.

Burial will be in St. Catharines Catholic Church cemetery, Spring Lake.

Robert G. Pultz

HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Robert Gerald Pultz, 18, of Harpers Ferry, died Saturday, July 4, 1998, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, Md.

Born Nov. 13, 1979, in Jackson, Miss., he was the son of Charles Junior Pultz of Winchester, Va., and Frank S. and Christ Worthington III of Harpers Ferry.

He was a student at Jefferson High School.

He was a member of Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church in Harpers Ferry.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Charles Allan Pultz of Harpers Ferry and Daniel Lee Pultz of Shepherdstown; three half sisters, Virginia Worthington of Salisbury, N.C., Amanada Pultz and Samantha Pultz, both of Winchester; maternal grandmother, Patricia Martin of Stephens City, Va.; maternal grandfather, Roy Baugher of Virginia; paternal grandparents, Frank and Audrey Worthington of Harpers Ferry; five nieces and nephews.

Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel, Martinsburg, W.Va. The family minister of Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery, Martinsburg.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the Ronald McDonald House, 841 Country Club Drive, Morgantown, W.Va. 26505.

Howard W. Hutzler

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Howard William Hutzler, 65, of Martinsburg, died Sunday, July 5, 1998, at his home.

Born Oct. 10, 1932, in Winchester, Va., he was the son of Beulah Leonard Hutzler of Shepherdstown, W.Va., and the late Leo E. Hutzler.

He retired from Mack Trucks, Hagerstown.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

He was a member of American Legion Post 211, Funkstown; Redmen Club 84 of Williamsport; UAW Local 171 and Martinsburg Lodge 120 Loyal Order of Moose.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Nancy Turner Hutzler; a daughter, Joan Albright of Martinsburg; a son, Mike Hutzler of Martinsburg; two sisters, Ethel Hutzler and Elsie Rudy, both of Martinsburg; a brother, Bennie B. Hutzler of Martinsburg; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard F. Hutzler.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. L. Jack Rudy will officiate. Burial will be in Tuscarora cemetery. Military graveside services will be conducted by Newton D. Baker Post 896, VFW and Berkeley Post 14 American Legion.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, where Martinsburg Lodge 120 Loyal Order of Moose will conduct a memorial service at 7:30 p.m.

Ashleigh J. Gaither

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Ashleigh Jordan Gaither, 2, of Berkeley Springs, who died Friday, July 3, 1998, was a junior auxiliary member of Alderton-Dawson American Legion Post 60, Berkeley Springs.

She is survived by a maternal grandfather, Robert Holmes of Wynne, Ark.
