CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Margaret Marie Hoak, 72, of Charles Town, died Tuesday, July 14, 1998, at Integrated Health Services of West Virginia, Charles Town.
Born Sept. 14, 1925, in Charles Town, she was the daughter of the late Raymond M. and Sadie M. Manuel Dillow.
She is survived by one daughter, Marilyn M. Tribble of Grand Rapids, Mich.; four sons, William. R. Hoak and Clarence Jay Hoak, both of Kearneysville, W.Va., Clark T. Hoak of Martinsburg, and Bruce W. Hoak, at home; one sister, Esther Pendley of Myersville, Md.; one brother, Raymond R. "Wimp" Dillow of Kearneysville; three half sisters, Sidney Starkey of Bolivar, W.Va., Rebecca Lake of Herndon, Va., and Frances McDougald of Gerrardstown, W.Va.; one half brother, Raymond E. Dillow of Bolivar; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home in Charles Town. The Rev. Harold Snyder and the Rev. Raymond Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Lutheran cemetery, Bolivar.
Friends will be received at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
Billy J. Bowles
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Billy Junior Bowles, 56, of Walnut Grove, died Tuesday, July 14, 1998, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va.
Born April 3, 1942, in Oley, W.Va., he was the son of the late Wayman and Emma Kirk Bowles.
He attended Petersburg, W.Va. High School.
He was employed with Jefferson County Public Service District.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Sheila Diane White Bowles; two daughters, Sheila Annette Bowles of Martinsburg, W.Va. and Michelle L. Housden at home; a son, Billy Joe Bowles at home; three sisters, Louise Bowers of Narrows, Va., Martha Simon of Petersburg, W.Va. and Loretta J. Bowles of Charles Town; six brothers, Charles Bowles of Narrows, Danny Bowles of Hedgesville, W.Va., Walter Bowles, James Bowles, Roger Bowles and William Bowles, all of Charles Town; and four grandchildren.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town. The Rev. Ronald Nick will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Opal A. Sperow
BEDINGTON, W.Va. - Opal Alice Kackley Sperow, 85, of Bedington, died Wednesday, July 15, 1998, at her daughter's home.
Born Sept. 12, 1912, in Capon Bridge, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Robert Rumsey and Alice Mary Orndoff Kackley.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Riner Sperow, in 1967. They were married in December 1938.
She attended local schools.
She was employed by Perfection Garment Co.
She was a member of Bedington United Methodist Church.
She was a member of Bedington Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by her daughter, Janet Martin of Bedington; two granddaughters; four great-grandsons; two stepgrandsons; four stepgreat-granddaughters; her stepmother, Lillian Schoppert of Martinsburg, W.Va.; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Genieve Unger and Violet Bradfield; and four brothers, Robert Kackley, Roy Kackley, Vernon Kackley and Orvis Kackley.
Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Revs. Robert W. Barnes and John E. Wright will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
James E. Crouch
SUMMIT POINT, W.Va. - James Edward Crouch, 68, of Hawthorne Avenue, died Wednesday, July 15, 1998, at his home.
Born Jan. 22, 1930, in Indianapolis, he was the son of the late Herbert and Hallie Brockman Crouch.
He was a graduate of Amarillo Junior College, Amarillo, Texas.
A 30-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served during the Korean War and Vietnam War. He received the Good Conduct Award.
He later retired as a manager for Jenkins Door & Window Co., Amarillo.
He was a Protestant.
He was a member of Fleet Reserve Association.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Ann Dows Crouch, whom he married March 10, 1951; four daughters, Carol Munson of Murietta, Calif., Cheryl Everman of Summit Point, Deborah Anaya of Carlsbad, N.M., and Donna Elkey of Coronado, Calif.; a sister, Esther Knott of Seymour, Ind.; four brothers, Herbert V. Crouch of Tampa, Fla., Edgar Crouch, Edwin Crouch and Robert Crouch, all of Indiana; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Roberts.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Aug. 5, at 3 p.m. at Arlington National cemetery, Arlington, Va. The Rev. D. Lee Everman will officiate.
There will be no visitation.

RANSON, W.Va. - Floyd Eugene Somers, 51, of Ranson, died Wednesday, July 15, 1998, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital.
Born Nov. 13, 1946, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late John Isaac Somers and Elizabeth Anna Donivan.
He worked as a carpenter in Washington, D.C., and as a security guard at Charles Town Races.
He was a Methodist.
He was a member of Charles Town Moose Lodge 948.
He is survived by a daughter, Karen "Shelly" Tanner of Ranson; three sisters, Lily Frick of Charles Town, W.Va., Nellie Woodard of Clarksville, Tenn., and Dorothy Easterday of Clearbrook, Va.; a grandson; and his companion, Linda Kay Long.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Jefferson Chapel Funeral Home. The Rev. Dee-Ann Dixon will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg, W.Va.

Alma J. Braunstein
KEARNEYSVILLE, W.Va. - Alma June Tait Braunstein, 76, of Kearneysville, and formerly of New Port Richey, Fla., and Mount Rainier, Md., died Wednesday, July 15, 1998, at her home.
Born June 12, 1922, in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Alexander William and Ada Dora Armacost Tait.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Braunstein.
She retired from C&P Telephone Co.
She was a member of the College Park, Md., Chapter of Women of the Moose.
She is survived by two sons, Bruce A. Braunstein of Kingswood, Texas, and Wayne E. Braunstein of Kearneysville; four grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Lillie Michael, 93, of Berkeley Springs, died Friday, July 17, 1998, at Extended Care Facility of Morgan County War Memorial Hospital, Berkeley Springs.
Born June 14, 1905, in Morgan County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Samuel E. and Sarah E. Johnson Michael.
She worked at Interwoven Hosiery Mill and Fairfax Restaurant, both in Berkeley Springs. She also was a homemaker.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Berkeley Springs, and the United Methodist Women. She was a member of Ladies Aid of Trinity United Methodist Church, Berkeley Springs.
She was a member of AARP.
She is survived by three nieces, Ruth McCarty of Hancock, Evelyn McBee of Berkeley Springs and Donna Reeves of Sterling, Va.; three nephews, Robert Shoemaker of Roanoke, Va., John Ralph Michael of Martinsburg, W.Va. and Roy Michael; great-nieces and great-nephews; great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Shoemaker and Josie LaFollette; and three brothers, Emery Michael, Ralph Michael and Herbert Michael.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs. The Rev. Owen B. Womack will officiate. Burial will be in Spohrs Crossroads cemetery, Morgan County.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Olive Geraldine Kidwell
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Olive Geraldine Kidwell, 65, of Berkeley Springs, died Friday, July 17, 1998, at her home.
Born Jan. 17, 1933, in Amaranth, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Charles Judson and Virgie Blanch Fischer Decker.
She attended Central City School, Somerset, Pa.; and Great Cacapon School, Great Cacapon, W.Va.
She was a homemaker.
She had attended Word of Deliverance Church in Berkeley Springs.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Robert Leo Kidwell; four daughters, Sandy Farris of Topeka, Kan., Donna J. Pierce and Pamela Farris, both of Great Cacapon, and Karen Claypoole of Needmore, Pa.; two sons, Bob Kidwell and Elwood Kidwell, both of Great Cacapon; two sisters, Ethel Shambaugh and Linda DeShong, both of Berkeley Springs; five brothers, Clyde Fischer and Forrest Decker, both of Berkeley Springs, Lewis Decker of Engelside, Texas, James Decker of Austin, Texas, and Roy Decker of Great Cacapon; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Marie Kidwell; and a brother, Douglas Decker.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs. The Revs. Steven R. Dawson and Hennis H. Fox will officiate. Burial will be in Great Cacapon cemetery.
