Edith V. Glassford

SUMMIT POINT, W.Va. - Edith Velma Glassford, 80, of Summit Point, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 1998, at Shenandoah Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Charles Town, W.Va.

Born March 7, 1918, in Larew, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Harvey Carl and Lydia Jane Price Menear.

Her husband, Allen D. Glassford, preceded her in death.

She was a homemaker and was employed by Doubleday Inc. and White's Supermarket.

She was a member of Church of the Holy Spirit, Summit Point.

She was a member of Women of the Moose 1028.

She is survived by two daughters, Mollie Jane Glassford Nobrega of Summit Point and Victoria Lynn Glassford Owens of Sterling, Va.; two brothers, Walter C. Menear and Daniel C. Menear; a granddaughter, a grandson; and two great-grandsons. She also was a foster parent.

She was preceded in death by a son, Ronald A. Glassford; and four brothers, Clarence, William, Charles and Raymon Menear.

Services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Church of the Holy Spirit, Summit Point. The Rev. Edward Green will officiate. Burial will be in Masonic cemetery, Middleway, W.Va.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 9 p.m. at Jefferson Chapel Funeral Home, Ranson, W.Va.

Vera. T. Kazura

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Vera T. Kazura, 77, of Berkeley Springs, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 1998, at Valley View Nursing Home, Berkeley Springs.

Born April 8, 1921, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary Ann Tereskawitz.

Her husband, Joseph Kazura, died in 1976.

She was a retired clothes press operator in Baltimore.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Baltimore.

She is survived by a daughter, Helen Mincher of Berkeley Springs; and three grandchildren, Mandy Mincher of Baltimore and Moiranda Mincher and Kenneth Mincher Jr., both at home.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph Tereskawitz and Walter Tereskawitz.

Funeral rites will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home, 106 S. Mercer St., Berkeley Springs. The Rev. John Mocke will be celebrant. Burial will be in Friendship cemetery, Berkeley Springs.

Viewing will be today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, where a vigil will be held today at 7:30 p.m.

Donations may be made to the Vera T. Kazura Memorial Fund, c/o Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home, 106 S. Mercer St., Berkeley Springs, W.Va. 25411.

Georgia M. Smeigh

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Georgia M. Smeigh, 83, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 1998, at her daughter's home.

Born Aug. 20, 1914, in Martinsburg, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Mary Kolb Braithwaite.

Her husband, Guy A. Smeigh, preceded her in death.

She retired from McCrory's. She also worked at Fairchild, Hagerstown.

She was a member of United Brethren Church.

She is survived by three daughters, Mary A. Kitzmiller, Dolly D. McDermott and Cecelia Kircher, all of Martinsburg; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and Francis Braithwaite; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. John R. Yost will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Panhandle or Panhandle Home Health.

Jeffrey B. Smith

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. -Jeffrey Brenton "J.B." Smith, 23, of Sleepy Hollow Estates, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 1998, at Loudoun Memorial Hospital, Leesburg, Va.

Born Oct. 14, 1974, in Winchester, Va., he was the son of Danny E. and Anna Maddy Smith of Charles Town.

He was a 1993 graduate of Jefferson High School, Shenandoah Junction, W.Va.

He was a senior at Marshall University in Huntington, W.Va.

He was associated with his family in the operation of Anvil Restaurant, Harpers Ferry.

He was a Protestant.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Autumn Renee Smith of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; paternal grandparents, Walter K. and Ruth M. Smith; two uncles; a close friend, Kim Hefner of Loudoun Heights, Va.; and cousins.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, Harpers Ferry. The Rev. John Alfriend will officiate. Burial will be private.

Friends will be received Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town.

Memorial donations may be made to Friendship Fire Co., P.O. Box 126, Harpers Ferry, W.Va. 25425.

Those attending the memorial service must park at Cavalier Heights visitors center parking lot, off U.S. 340, by 8:30 a.m., and will be taken to the park for the service.

Stella M. Mongan

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Stella Marie Mongan, 71, of Martinsburg, died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998, at her home.

Born Dec. 4, 1926, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late Vernon Kackley Sr. and Mabel Penwell Kackley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth C. Mongan Sr.

She was a member of the Church of Christ Northside.

She is survived by three sons, Kenneth G. Mongan Jr. of Martinsburg, Jeffrey L. Mongan and Jonathan D. Mongan, both at home; one sister, Bernice Johnson of Martinsburg; two brothers, Vernon Kackley Jr. and Cletus Kackley, both of Martinsburg; and one granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Hilda Marie Kackley; and one brother, John Kackley.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Church of Christ Northside, Kaufman and Woodbury Avenues in Martinsburg. Dennis Mongan will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Church of Christ Northside.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, 2015 Boyd Orchard Court, Martinsburg, W.Va. 25401.

Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.

Dixie D. Kilham

HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Dixie Donald Kilham, 78, of Harpers Ferry, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 1998, at his home.

Born in Pittsburgh on March 5, 1920, he was the son of the late Richard Cornelius and Edna Irene Merriman Kilham.

As a youth in Baltimore, he sang at the Protestant Episcopal Church of St. Michaels and All Angels.

He graduated from City College, and from Duke University in North Carolina. In 1993 he was made a member of Duke's Half-Century Club.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.

He received a bachelor of laws degree in June 1949 from the University of Maryland Law School and was admitted to the Maryland Bar on Aug. 3, 1949.

He acquired Hilltop Theatre School of Arts to promote speech, acting and dance. He bought Hilltop House Hotel in Harpers Ferry in 1955 and brought players to Harpers Ferry for summer theatre-in-the-round productions. He was an innkeeper from 1955 to 1987.

He and Robert Angel renovated and refurbished The Old Opera House in Charles Town.

He was on the West Virginia Arts and Humanities Council from 1967 to 1971. During that time, he built the national Historical Wax Museum in Harpers Ferry.

In Harpers Ferry, he was a member of the Public Service Commission until his retirement. He also was director and later vice president of the Bank of Brunswick in Maryland.

He is survived by one daughter, Dianna Kilham of Williamsport; one sister, Virginia Current of Columbus, Ohio; one granddaughter, Chloe Kilham; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Jacqueline Kilham Mogowski and Vivian Kilham Odell.

Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Camp Hill-Wesley United Methodist Church in Harpers Ferry. Burial will be in the Kilham family lot of Harpers cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a local charity of one's choice.

Arrangements are by Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home in Harpers Ferry.

Elmer L. Jainniney Sr.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Elmer Lee Jainniney Sr., 78, of Martinsburg, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.

Born Feb. 7, 1920, in Ronceverte, W.Va., he was the son of the late Clyde and Maude Morgan Jainniney.

He retired from General Motors.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge in 1944.

He was a member of Bethel Assembly of God Church, Martinsburg.

He is survived by his wife, Florence V. Jainniney; three sons, Elmer L. Jainniney Jr., James E. Jainniney and Ronald C. Jainniney, all of Berkeley County, W.Va.; one sister, Dorothy Kirby of Berkeley County; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Cheryl Ann Jainniney; one sister, Violet K. Townsend; and two brothers, Raymond Jainniney and Carl Jainniney.

Services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel, Martinsburg. Pastor Arnold Brown and the Rev. Paul Stanley will officiate, assisted by Pastor Keith Edwards and Pastor Tim Jainniney. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association-Western Maryland, 538 Washington Ave., Hagerstown, Md. 21740; or to Gideon Society, c/o the Jainniney family.
