HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Elsie Rose Harrop, 89, of 5120 The Woods, and formerly of Alamuchy, N.J., died Saturday, Aug. 15, 1998, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.
Born Dec. 31, 1908, in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Otto and Emma Guhl Hartnagel.
She was employed as a teacher of music for Faith for Today radio broadcast in New York.
She was a member of Seventh-day Adventist Church in Martinsburg, W.Va., and Seventh-day Adventist Church in Hackettstown, N.J., where she played the organ and was the choir director.
She was a member of AARP, and American Guild of Organists.
She is survived by one daughter, Jean R. Magi of Hedgesville; two granddaughters, Trina J. Magi of Burlington, Vt., and Jill K. Magi of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and one grandson, Jon T. Magi of New Market, Md.
She was preceded in death by one brother, William Hartnagel.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Hackensack cemetery in Hackensack, N.J. Pastor Tom Boggess will officiate.
There will be no viewing.
The family requests the omission of flowers.
Arrangements are by Osborne Funeral Home, Williamsport.
Velma B. Johnson
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Velma Bergdoll Johnson, 88, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, Aug. 18, 1998, at Williamsport Nursing Home.
Born March 14, 1910, in Petersburg, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late J. Ed and Rhoda Sites Bergdoll.
She was preceded in death by her husband, K. Brent Johnson, in 1995. They were married Feb. 3, 1940.
She received her bachelor of science degree from West Virginia University in 1935. She also attended Arizona State University and Colorado State University.
She retired Jan. 1, 1971, after 35 years as West Virginia extension agent for Berkeley County.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Martinsburg and was a former teacher of Fidelis Sunday School Class of the church.
She was a member of Phi Upsilon Omicron and Epsilon Sigma Phi honorary societies; and American Home Economics Association and National Association of Home Extension Economists, from which she received the Distinguished Service Award in 1947. She served on the executive board of the national association for eight years, two years as president.
She was a member of American Association of University Women and past president of the Martinsburg branch.
She is listed in Who's Who of American Women. In 1962 she broadcast five-minute spots over radio stations WEPM in Martinsburg and WCST in Berkeley Springs. She worked with home demonstration clubs in Morgan County and taught school in Grant County.
She is survived by a sister, Wilda Loftin of Piedmont, Ala.; and two brothers, Merlin Bergdoll of Madison, W.Va. and David Bergdoll of Petersburg, W.Va.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mila Yutzy.
Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Curt Lowry will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Seatta C. Spencer, 79, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 1998, at her home.
Born Oct. 9, 1918, in Front Royal, Va., she was the daughter of the late Leonard L. and Margaret B. Crabill Cone.
She was an employee of Taylor's Market.
She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Christina L. Britner of Martinsburg; a son, David O. Spencer of Ocean Springs, Miss.; two sisters, Patricia A. Ware of Martinsburg and Ruth Thomas of Cape Coral, Fla.; a brother, Charles C. Cone of Henry, Tenn.; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Memorial graveside services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Rosedale cemetery. The Rev. Walter F. Bowers will officiate. Immediately following the service, the family and friends will meet at Calvary United Methodist Church, 220 W. Burke St., Martinsburg.

Victor G. McGowan
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Victor G. McGowan, 69, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 1998, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg.
Born Feb. 21, 1929, in Morgan County, W.Va., he was the son of the late James A. and Lillian Sirbaugh McGowan.
He was the lead singer for Nite Riders country music band and a fisherman.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Louise Butts McGowan; a daughter, Amy Shifflett of Summit Point, W.Va.; a son, Randall K. Zittle of Hedgesville, W.Va.; and four grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Edward Myers will officiate. Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

BAKERTON, W.Va. - Robert William Welsh, 59, of Bakerton, died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 1998, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va.
Born Aug. 17, 1939, in West Virginia, he was the son of the late George William Welsh and Louise Jones Abrell.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Welsh, in 1986.
He was employed in the maintenance department at Canan Steel Corp., Point of Rocks, Md.
He served with the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Army Reserves, and received, among others, the Good Conduct Award and the National Defense Service Medal.
He was of the Methodist faith.
He is survived by an adopted daughter, Angela Lang of Kearneysville, W.Va.; two stepsons, Timothy Travis and Jeffrey Travis, both of Maryland; a half sister, Marsha A. Ashbaugh of Kearneysville; a brother, Jack Welsh of Bakersville, N.C.; three adopted grandchildren; and close friends Flo and Scottie Derr, with whom he resided.
Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town, W.Va. The Rev. Dee-Ann Dixon will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

Graveside services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Hillsboro cemetery, Hillsboro, Va. The Rev. Richard Neal will officiate. Burial will be in Hillsboro cemetery, Hillsboro.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Evelyn E. Kelley, 69, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 1998, at Integrated Health Services, Charles Town, W.Va.
Born May 5, 1929, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Naomi Dodson Jacobs.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Kelley.
She is survived by seven daughters, Carol Lee Moses of Hagerstown, Linda Kay Miller, Mary Susan Drake, Gloria Jean Seeders, Tammy Lynn Kelley and Norma Hope Mills, all of Martinsburg, and Marion Bernadine Albright of Winchester, Va.; two sons, Clyde Wilson Rhinaman of Hagerstown and John Albert Rhinaman of Martinsburg; four sisters, Eileen Gregory, Thelma Zepp, Joyce Eversole and Lottie Dodson, all of Martinsburg; four brothers, Jack Jacobs, Archie Jacobs, Dick Jacobs and Bill Jacobs, all of Martinsburg; 17 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Bud Jacobs and June Jacobs.
Services will be today at 3 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. John E. Wright will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
Edith M. Shoeberger
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Edith Miller Shoeberger, 93, of Martinsburg, died Friday, Aug. 21, 1998, at her home.
Born April 3, 1905, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late William H.K. and Margaret Sencindiver Miller.
She attended area schools. A graduate of Shepherd College, she taught in a one-room school at Darkesville and Smith School at the mountain. She then taught at Pikeside School and North Middle School, where she taught in the history department until her retirement in 1969. She then was a substitute teacher, having completed more than 50 years in Berkeley County School System.
She is survived by a daughter, Rosemary King at home; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, L. Virginia Miller and Ethel K. Miller; and two brothers, Ward Miller and C. Milton Miller.
Graveside services will be Sunday at 2:15 p.m. at Rosedale cemetery. The Rev. Daniel L. Montague will officiate.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg.
