KEARNEYSVILLE, W.Va. - James D. Burnette, 75, of Kearneysville, died Friday, Aug. 21, 1998, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 16, 1922, in Bristol, Tenn., he was the son of the late Robert James and Sarah Perkins Burnette.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary K. Burnette.
He was retired, formerly employed at University of Maryland Hospital.
He is survived by a daughter, Maxine M. Tarallo of Martinsburg, W.Va.; three sons, Roger D. McGrady, James D. Burnette Jr. and Andrew E. Burnette, all of Kearneysville; a sister, Esther Smith of Tennessee; three brothers, Raymond Burnette of Tennessee, Edger Burnette of Virginia and W.R. Burnette of Florida; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harlan and George Burnette.
Graveside services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Rosedale cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg.
Dorothy N. Marsh
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Dorothy N. Marsh, 85, of Charles Town, died Thursday, Aug. 20, 1998, at her home.
Born May 28, 1913, in Kansas City, Mo., she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Elizabeth Bryant Mosby.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Marsh.
She was a member of First Christian Church, Harlingen, Texas.
She is survived by a daughter, JoAnna Humphreys of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; a son, Bruce L. McCurley of Hurst, Texas; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Ernest Mosby Jr.
Graveside services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Bluebonnet Hills cemetery, Colleyville, Texas.
Arrangements are by Jefferson Chapel Funeral Home, Ranson, W.Va.
Ralph C. Horne
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Ralph C. "Jack" Horne, 72, of Martinsburg and formerly of Cleveland, Tenn., died Tuesday, Aug. 18, 1998, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg.
Born Sept. 16, 1925, in Shippensburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Alvey and Viola Gleim Horne.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.
He was a member of Stanfield Baptist Church in Georgetown, Tenn.
He was a member of American Legion in Tennessee.
He is survived by five sisters, Anne Small, Phyllis Holtz, Geraldine Perini, Christine Rahrle and Marie Redding; and two brothers, Ronald Horne and Andrew Horne.
Services will be Sunday at 8 p.m. at Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, 297 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, Pa. The Rev. Michael Miller will officiate.
Visitation will be Sunday one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Burial will be Monday at 2 p.m. in Indiantown Gap National cemetery. The Rev. Alan Helwig will officiate. Military services will be conducted by Lebanon, Pa. VFW.

Paul W. Witt
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Paul Wesley Witt, 88, of Canterbury of Shepherdstown and formerly of Bardane, W.Va., died Saturday, Aug. 22, 1998, at City Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born March 5, 1910, in Manhiem, W.Va., he was the son of the late Noah B. and Lucy V. Zetty Witt.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sallie Kite Witt, on May 16, 1998. They were married Dec. 24, 1935.
He retired from Martin-Marietta Co., in Martinsburg.
He served with the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II.
He was a member of Oakland United Methodist Church, Charles Town, W.Va.
He was a 50-year member of Elk Branch Masonic Lodge 93 AF & AM of Shenandoah Junction, W.Va.; and a member of Potomac Commandary 5, Shepherdstown.
He is survived by four sisters, Nina Kave of Shepherdstown, Jessie Long of Clarksburg, W.Va., Bessie Wagner of Terra Alta, W.Va. and Helen Cathell of Chesapeake, Va.; a brother, Kraymer Witt of Charles Town, W.Va.; nieces and nephews; and cousins.
He is preceded in death by a sister, Susan Sauer; and two brothers, George Witt and Luther Witt.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town. Dr. Wyman Hall will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens cemetery, Martinsburg.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Edith M. Snoeberger
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Edith Miller Snoeberger, 93, of Martinsburg, died Friday, Aug. 21, 1998, at her home.
Born April 3, 1905, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late William H.K. and Margaret Sencindiver Miller.
She attended area schools. A graduate of Shepherd College, she taught in a one-room school at Darkesville and Smith School at the mountain. She then taught at Pikeside School and Martinsburg North Middle School, where she taught in the history department until her retirement in 1969. She then was a substitute teacher, having completed more than 50 years in Berkeley County schools.
She is survived by a daughter, Rosemary King, at home; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, L. Virginia Miller and Ethel K. Miller; and two brothers, Ward Miller and C. Milton Miller.
Graveside services will be today at 2:15 p.m. at Rosedale cemetery. The Rev. Daniel L. Montague will officiate.
The family will receive friends today from 1 to 2 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg.

Helen A. Hill
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Helen Agnes Hill, 79, of Charles Town, died Sunday, Aug. 23, 1998, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson, W.Va.
Born April 9, 1919, in Jefferson County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Benjamin F. Sr. and Hattie-Jane Stewart Magaha.
She was a member of Trinity Gospel Assembly of God Church in Charles Town, and Women's Missionaries of the church.
She is survived by two sons, Richard Fiorvanti of Charles Town, and James F. Hill of Chapel Hill, N.C.; two sisters, Joann M. Goladay of Charles Town, and Peggy M. Littleton of Ranson; one brother, Benjamin Magaha Jr. of Ranson; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, William E. Hill; one sister, Dorcas Horner; and one brother, Donald Magaha.
Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Trinity Gospel Assembly of God Church, W.Va. 9, Charles Town. The Rev. John Divico will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens cemetery in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Edwin E. Sperow
SPRING MILLS, W.Va. - Edwin Earl Sperow, 88, of Spring Mills, died Saturday, Aug. 22, 1998, at City Hospital in Martinsburg.
Born Dec. 16, 1909, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late James Holland and Bessie Weller Sperow.
He graduated from Martinsburg High School in 1928.
He retired from Berkeley County Schools and the Berkeley County Assessor's Office. He was in the poultry business for a number of years.
He attended Christ Reformed Church.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sarah Catherine Myers Sperow; one son, Robert L. Sperow of Martinsburg; one sister, Mary Griffith of Charleston, W.Va.; one brother, Leon Sperow of Philadelphia; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one son, William L. Sperow; and one sister, Ellen Tallis.
Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg. The Rev. Thomas E. Hartshorn will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Anna B. Martin
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Anna B. Martin, 67, of Belview Drive, and formerly of Black Rock, Md., died Thursday, Aug. 20, 1998, at the home of her daughter in Martinsburg.
Born in Black Rock, Oct. 27, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Ethel M. Rudy Scadden.
She was a member of Black Rock Bible Church.
She enjoyed bicycle riding, bird-watching, and was a naturalist.
She is survived by her husband, Daniel S. Martin; three daughters, Cheryl A. Murphy of Sarasota, Fla., Sharon A. Garber of Martinsburg, and Vicki A. Barden of Keedysville; two sons, Rodney C. Martin of Funkstown, and Brett W. Martin of Thurmont, Md.; 16 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Vernon Scadden.
Services were held at Beaver Creek cemetery. Pastor Paul Heefner officiated.
