FISHER, W.Va. - Ruby E. Barr, 85, of Fisher, died Thursday, Aug. 27, 1998, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg, W.Va.
Born Jan. 1, 1913, in Hardy County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Marion Beauregard and Blanchetta Evans Barr.
He graduated from Petersburg High School, St. Johns Academy and Shepherd College.
He was a retired school teacher with 37 years with the Hardy County Board of Education.
He was a member of Oak Dale Presbyterian Church.
He was a member of Moorefield Lodge 29 AF & AM, and Valley View Golf Course.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Walters Barr; two daughters, Joyce Ludwick of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Susan Crisler of Manchester, Md.; four sons, Allen Barr of Lynchburg, Va., Gary Barr of Berryville, Va., Kenneth Barr of Hagerstown and Eric Barr of Front Royal, Va.; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by six sisters and four brothers.
Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Moorefield Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Bruce MacBeth will officiate. Burial will be in Newhouse cemetery at Rig, W.Va.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 9 p.m. at Fraley Funeral Home, Moorefield, and on Sunday one hour prior to services at the church.

Geraldine V. Rice
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Geraldine Violet Rice, 79, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, Aug. 29, 1998, at the home of her son.
Born Feb. 3, 1919, in Berkeley County, she was the daughter of the late Robert L. and Violet F. McDowell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene W. Rice Sr., in 1992.
She attended Trinity Episcopal Church, where she, at one time, was the head of the nursery.
She was a private housekeeper.
She is survived by a son, Eugene W. Rice Jr., with whom she lived; three grandchildren, Michael D. Rice of Hedgesville, Edward C. Rice and Thomas A. Rice, both of Martinsburg; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Doris L. McDowell, Ruth D. Proewig, Marian F. McDowell and Jane R. McDowell; two brothers, Herbert L. McDowell and Charles N. McDowell; and two grandchildren.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel. Pastor John R. Yost will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Donald M. Van Gosen
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Donald Maxwell Van Gosen, 85, of Berkeley Springs, died Saturday, Aug. 29, 1998, at Morgan County War Memorial Hospital, Berkeley Springs.
Born March 6, 1913, in Morgan County, he was the son of the late John Cromwell and Icy Crouse Van Gosen.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna O. Stotler Van Gosen, in 1996.
He attended Grape Hill School, Morgan County.
He worked in Mathias, W.Va. with Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression. He then worked as a flagman with B & O Railroad out of the Cumberland, Md. yard. He retired in 1975, as a mill operator, from U.S. Silica in Berkeley Springs.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Berkeley Springs.
He was a member of Junior Order of United American Mechanics Council 117, Berkeley Springs.
He is survived by a daughter, Joan Marie "Judy" Hovermale of Berkeley Springs; two sisters, Fairy Kirk of Warfordsburg, Pa. and Frances Cain of Berkeley Springs; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Ethel Fox, Geraldine Hoffman and Virgie McCumbee; and seven brothers, Ned Van Gosen, Berkeley Van Gosen, Cart Van Gosen, Maxwell Van Gosen, Elmer Van Gosen, Gilbert Van Gosen and Cramer Van Gosen.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, Harrison Avenue and Goff Street, Berkeley Springs. The Rev. Wayne Frum will officiate. Burial will be in Spohrs Crossroads cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union Street, Berkeley Springs; and Monday one hour prior to the services at the church. The funeral home will be open today from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. for the convenience of friends.

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Constance Grace Harrison, 88, of Charles Town, died Saturday, Aug. 29, 1998, at her home.
Born Dec. 29, 1909, in Italy, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Carmilina Scionti.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Rudolph Nardi, in 1977; and her second husband, Emanuel "Mannie" A. T. Harrison, in 1997.
She was associated with her husband, Emanuel A. T. Harrison, in the operation of Harrison Enterprises, Charles Town.
She was of the Catholic faith.
She was a member of Women of the Moose Chapter 1028, Charles Town; Shannondale Garden Club; and Shannondale Womens Club.
She is survived by a daughter, Pamela M. Harrison of Charles Town; a son, Jack R. Nardi of Charles Town; a sister, Amelia Scionti Quinta of Florida; and a nephew.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Gus Scionti, Thomas Scionti and John Scionti.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town. Father Brian Owens will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg, W.Va.

Samuel F. Penwell
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Samuel F. "Sammy" Penwell, 69, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, Aug. 29, 1998, at his home.
Born Sept. 2, 1928, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Walter Perry and Othelia Martin Penwell.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army.
He was a member of Newton D. Baker Post 896 VFW; Martinsburg Lodge 120; Loyal Order of Moose; and BPO Elks 778.
He retired as a line operator from Handy and Harman Co. He was the owner and operator of the former Sammy's Amoco Service Station.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel Frick Penwell; five daughters, Joyce Arnett, Gloria Penwell, Sharon Shaw and Theresa Shamburg, all of Martinsburg, and Pam Trayer of Inwood, W.Va.; a son, Kenneth Penwell of Martinsburg; a brother, Wesley P. Penwell of Martinsburg; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jennifer Kramerage.
Services will be Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. John R. Yost will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Carl W. Owen, 52, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998, at his home.
Born Sept. 18, 1946, in Plainfield, N.J., he was the son of the late John English and Muriel Edwards Owen.
He was traffic manager for Jaynes Motor Freight, Elizabeth, N.J.
He is survived by two daughters, Gretchen Owen Sharp of Fallsington, Pa., and Karin Nicely of Fairless Hills, Pa.
Private graveside services will be at Evergreen Burial Park in Roanoke, Va.

Howard A. Taulton Sr.
RANSON, W.Va. - Howard Austin "Buddy" Taulton Sr., 60, of 318 E. 5th Ave., died Monday, Sept. 28, 1998, at his home.
Born Feb. 28, 1938, in Brunswick, Md., he was the son of Pauline Himes Taulton of Yarrowsburg, Md., and the late Howard Samuel Taulton.
He was a retired carman from Amtrak at Union Station at Washington, D.C.
He was a member of Brownsville (Md.) Church of the Brethren; He was active with Christian Holiness Church at Gapland, Md.
He was a member of Steadman-Keenan American Legion Post 96; and a former member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1582, both of Brunswick.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by two daughters, Paula Edwards of Charles Town, W.Va., and Michelle Metz of Keedysville; four sons, Howard Taulton Jr. of Yarrowsburg, Jeffrey Taulton, Darrell Taulton and Mark Taulton, all of Hagerstown; three sisters, Thomasine Germack of Frederick, Md., Joann Coulter of Yarrowsburg and Susie Ruffner of Boonsboro; 11 grandchildren; and his fiance, Beverly Higgins of Charles Town.
Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Brownsville Church of the Brethren, Brownsville. The Rev. R. Thomas Fralin Jr. and the Rev. James Jones will officiate. Burial will be in Brownsville Heights cemetery, Brownsville Heights, Md.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Anna Christine "Chub" Stanley, 78, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998, at Heartland of Martinsburg.
Born July 27, 1920, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Ash and Lucy Powell Ellis.
She was a member of Second Baptist Church of Martinsburg.
She also was a member of Chapter 738 Women of the Moose.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Lee Stanley; a son, Charles Ellis Sr. of Martinsburg; a grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by five sisters, Viola Rockwell, Lucy Painter, Mary Martin, Daisy Faircloth and Pearl P. Ellis; and a brother, Bruce Ellis.
Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Second Baptist Church. The Rev. R. Shawn Edwards will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church Wednesday one hour prior to the service.
