MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Patty Alma Bennie, 81, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1998, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.
Born Dec. 19, 1916, in Marting, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Jesse James and Teresa May Thornton Pennington.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Thomas Bennie.
She formerly was employed by Sheridan Inn.
She was a member of Clarendon Baptist Church, Arlington, Va.
She is survived by a sister, Ruby Evelyn Walker of Inwood, W.Va.; two grandchildren, Lisa Duncan of Charleston, W.Va., and Donald Bennie of Charlotte, N.C.; and a great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Delores Jean Bennie Duncan; a sister, Virginia Allen Dilley; three brothers, John Bernard, William Washington and Jess Mack Pennington; and a grandson, Robert Duncan.
Services will be Friday at 9:30 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. R. S. Hill Jr. will officiate. Graveside services will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Fort Lincoln cemetery, Bladensburg, Md.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Harold P. Kerns
BUNKER HILL, W.Va. - Harold P. Kerns, 63, of Bunker Hill, died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1998, at City Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born March 5, 1935, in Bunker Hill, he was the son of the late Perry Jefferson and Genevieve Amy Light Kerns.
He attended Buck Hill Independent Bible Church.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby Foltz Kerns; three daughters, Kathy Kerns of the U.S. Navy, Asbury Park, N.J., Tammy Morris and Gabriel Barnes, both of Martinsburg; a son, John Hamilton Kerns of Martinsburg; four stepdaughters, Linda Atiles of Inwood, W.Va., Karen Baker of Purcellville, Va., Cheryl Price of Bunker Hill, W.Va., and Inga Price of Laurel, Del.; two stepsons, Larry Price of Kearneysville, W.Va., and Brooks Price of Follansbee, W.Va.; two sisters, Evelyn Price and Hilda Davis, both of Bunker Hill; nine grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; and 11 step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Davis.
She was a member of Enon Primitive Baptist Church in Largent.
She also was a member of AARP, and Enon Homemakers Club of Largent.
She is survived by one great-niece; one great-grandnephew; and one daughter-in-law.
She was preceded in death by one son, Roy E. Fraley; one brother, Irvin A. Ambrose; and an infant child.
Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs. Toliver Utz, elder, will officiate. Burial will be in Enon Primitive Baptist Church cemetery in Largent.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - The family of Willard Earl "Skip" Wertenberger Jr., 63, of Berkeley Springs, who died Saturday, Aug. 29, 1998, will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Union Chapel United Methodist Church. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

SILVER GROVE, W.Va. - Wanda Jeannette Everhart, 52, of Silver Grove, died Tuesday, Sept. 1, 1998, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va.
Born Oct. 13, 1945, in Martinsburg, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Edgar Richard and Leona Bertha Cogle Everhart.
She was employed in the housekeeping department at Cliffside Inn at Harpers Ferry, W.Va.
She was a member of Silver Grove United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Angela Hope Everhart of Silver Grove; and a brother, Curtis Richard Everhart of Silver Grove.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Paul David Everhart.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Margaret J. Coles, 71, of Martinsburg, died Monday, Aug. 31, 1998, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.
Born Jan. 14, 1927, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late Granville Dennis and Margaret Johns Roman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Coles.
She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, and was on the Senior Usher Board.
She is survived by seven daughters, Carolyn Ann Roman, Diane Virginia Mann, Peggy Jane Devonshire, Kimberly Ann Devonshire, Lisa K. Walters, Sandy Renee Devonshire and Yolanda Melissa Roman, all of Martinsburg; a son, Sidney William Devonshire Jr. of Bunker Hill, W.Va.; a sister, Virginia Roman of Pittsburgh; two brothers, Granville Smith Roman of Norwalk, Conn., and Eugene A. Roman of Shepherdstown, W.Va.; 21 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a close friend, Floyd Odom of Martinsburg.
She was preceded in death by a close friend, Sidney William Devonshire Sr.; a sister, Ann Devonshire; and a brother, John D. Johnson.
Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church. The Rev. James E. Brown and the Rev. John Birckhead Jr. will officiate. Burial will be private.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Charlotte Gosnell Harrison, 80, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, Sept. 1, 1998, at Heartland of Martinsburg.
Born Oct. 24, 1917, in Brunswick, Md., she was the daughter of the late Alonzo and Anna May Anderson Gosnell.
She was employed by C.H. Musselman Co. for 25 years.
She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church.
She was a member of Order of Eastern Star Chapter 97, Brunswick; Golden Rule Chapter 69; United Commercial Travelers Auxiliary; and Ladies Auxiliary of the United Transportation Union (B of R.T.)
She is survived by her husband, Carroll Alton Harrison; a brother, Walter Lee Gosnell of Keedysville; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Albert L. Clipp will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

Clyde W. Foster
CASCADE, Mont. - Clyde W. Foster, 78, of Cascade, died Thursday, Aug. 27, 1998, at Deaconess Hospital, Great Falls, Mont., following a stroke.
Born in Jefferson County, W.Va., he was the son of the late John H. and Beatrice M. Snapp Foster.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Arabelle P. Foster; a brother, Hesbia C. Foster of Frederick, Md., and Naples, Fla.; three sisters, Evelyn J. Alger and Iva Lee Johnson, both of Frederick, and Meta H. Foster of Martinsburg; nieces and nephews.
Services were held Monday at 2 p.m. at United Methodist Church, Cascade, Mont. Burial was in Hillside cemetery, Cascade.

Charlotte E. Gladden
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Charlotte Ellen Gladden, 77, of Martinsburg, died Sunday, Aug. 30, 1998, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.
Born May 30, 1921, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Harry Benjamin and Esther Loudan Carryer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen S. Gladden.
She formerly was employed by Lewis Brother Orchards.
She is survived by six daughters, Sarah C. White of Inwood, W.Va., Esther Robinson of Clearbrook, Va., Sharon E. Kerns of Ridgeway, W.Va., Martha J. Pitzer and Mildred R. Keif, both of Bunker Hill, W.Va., and Patty L. Gsell of Martinsburg; four sons, Dennis James Gladden of Bunker Hill, Vernon A. Gladden and Henry B. Gladden, both of Glengary, W.Va., and Harry D. Gladden of Mohawk, Tenn.; one sister, Mildred Sibert of Martinsburg; 42 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Hazel Braithwaite and Catherine Boltz.
Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Dottie Dunham will officiate. Burial will be in Mountainside Tabernacle cemetery.
