Daisy Myrtle Massie, 88, of Beckley, died 2:45 a.m., Sunday, Jan. 19, 1997, in an Oak Hill hospital following a long illness.

Velma O. McKinney
Velma O. McKinney, 77, of Scarbro, died 11 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 17, 1997, in a Beckley hospital as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident on June 24, 1996.
Arrangements by Tankersley Funeral Home, Mullens.

Zulena T. Robinson
WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS --Zulena Tibbs Robinson, 87, died Friday, Jan. 17, 1997.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church, White Sulphur Springs. Friends may call one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church.

John J. Smith
John Joe Smith, 69, of Sophia, died 9:15 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 18, 1997, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness.
Born March 13, 1927, at Raleigh County, he was the son of the late John and Polly Smith.
Mr. Smith was a retired coal miner, a member of the UMWA Dustrict #29 and served as a volunteer fire fighter in Sophia, was a Raleigh County Community Action Employee and worked for EACC at Affinity's #5 Keystone Mine.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Marie Margaret Hinkle Smith and a grandson, Joey Smith.
Survivors include two daughters, Polly Ann Smith of Old Eccles Road and Sandy Polk of Warminister, Pa.; seven grandchildren and five grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Williams-Blue Ridge Funeral Home with Mr. Dave Mullins officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call one hour prior to services Tuesday at the funeral home.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

John M. Surface, Sr.
MEADOW BRIDGE -- John Michael Surface, Sr., 48, died Saturday, Jan. 18, 1997, at his home following a short illness.
Born Dec. 6, 1948, at McRoss, he was the son of Robert C. and Madleen "Cricket" Kane Surface of Meadow Bridge.
Mr. Surface was a disabled electrician and was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by a brother, William Robert "Billy" Surface.
Other survivors include two sons, John Surface, Jr. of Trenton, Fla. and Robert D. Surface of Fayetteville, N.C.; two sisters, Penny McGuire and Teresa Jones, both of Gainesville, Fla.; four grandchildren, Brittany, Kirstie, Caleb Michael and Haley Morgan Surface.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Smathers Funeral Home Chapel, Rainelle, with Revs. Steve Meadows and Bill Lilly officiating. Burial will follow in the Patton Memorial cemetery, Meadow Bridge.
Friends may call 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Virginia E. Thomas
CHARLESTON -- Virginia E. Thomas, 86, died Saturday, Jan. 18, 1997, in a Charleston hospital following a short illness.
Born May 14, 1910, at Oak Hill, she was the daughter of the late Joseph L. and Della Bays Bishop.
Mrs. Thomas was a member of the First Church of God, Main Street, Charleston.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank J. Thomas; a daughter, Sandra Carol Thomas; a brother, John Bishop.
Survivors include a daughter, Marilyn Stine of Columbus,, Ohio; a so, Stuart Thomas and his wife, Janet of Charleston; a sister, Vivian Campbell of Oak Hill; two brothers, Fayette Bishop of Arlington, Va. and Robert "Bob" Bishop of Medina, Ohio; a granddaughter, Jenny Thomas; two step-grandchildren, Ashley and Andrew Pitchford.
Graveside rites will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill, with Rev. Edward F. Bowman officiating.
There will be no visitation.
In lieu of flowers, donations of sympathy may be made to the First Church of God, 915 Main Street, Charleston, W.Va. 25302 in memory of Virginia E. Thomas.

Charlie "Buster" Wilkes
Charlie "Buster" Wilkes, 84, of South Fayette St. Beckley, died Friday, Jan. 17, 1997, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness.
Born Jan. 12, 1913, at Cullens, Va., he was the son of the late Wesley and Eunice Wilkes.
Mr. Wilkes was the owner and operator of two grocery stores for many years, was a licensed beautician and a member of the civic association.
Survivors include a son, Roland "Bobby" Wilkes and his wife, Margaret of Washington, D.C.; a sister-in-law, Margaret Wilkes; several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Ritchie and Johnson Funeral Parlor Chapel, Beckley, with Rev. O.T. Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Beckley.
Friends may call one hour prior to services Wednesday at the funeral parlor.

HALL COUNTY, Ga. -- Owen Dane Wills, 91, formerly of Summers County, died Friday, Jan. 17, 1997, in Hall County, Ga.
Survivors include his wife, Louise B. Wills of Beckley; a daughter, Leona Wills Eliasen of Lawrenceville; a son, Dane Wills of Lawrenceville; three sisters, Audrey H. Eliasen of Beckley, Mary W. Peterson of Flat Top and Anna W. Fowler of Bedford, Va.; two brothers, Bernard W. Wills of Beaver and Thomas W. Wills of Daniels; two grandchildren, Edie Eliasen of Duluth and Owen Eliasen of Rome, Ga.
Memorial services will be 4 p.m. today at Wages Oak Lawn Chapel with Revs. Michael Plunket and Dan Hettinger officiating.
Friends may call after the services at the Tom M. Wages Funeral Home, Larenceville, Ga.

CHARLESTON -- Thomas "Mike" K. Wilson, 54, formerly of Oak Hill, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 1997, in a Charleston hospital.

Mabel W. Wingrove
LONG BRANCH -- Mabel Williams Wingrove, 86, died Friday, Jan. 27, 2997, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness.
Born Dec. 19, 1910, at Price Hill, she was the daughter of the late Stewart and Hattie Harmon Williams.
Mrs. Wingrove was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emery Wingrove; three sons, Clarence, Richard and Ronald Wingrove; two brothers and a sister.
Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Elmore of Long Branch and Dora Jean Conner of Oak Hill; four sons, James "Jimmy" Wingrove of Bradley, Howard Wingrove of Sophia, Marvin Wingrove of Crab Orchard and Larry Wingrove of Richmond, Va.; three sisters, Margaret Ross and Opal Massie, both of Glen Jean and Freda Cox of Kilsyth; 23 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Tyree Funeral Home Chapel, Mount Hope, with Rev. Lee Kendrick officiating. Burial will follow in Wingrove Family cemetery, Long Branch.
Friends may call 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
