SMITH MOUNTAIN LAKE, Va. -- Opal Gay Simpson, 70, formerly of Kopperston, died Friday, Dec. 4, 1998, at her home following a long illness.

Sandra Jane Stover
Sandra Jane Stover, 60, of Fairdale, died Thursday, Dec. 3, 1998, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness.
Born Dec. 8, 1937, at Glen Rogers, she was the daughter of the late Theodore and Emma Kavinsky Stover.
Ms. Stover spent her childhood in Fairdale, and was a graduate of Trap Hill High School.
She had lived many years in Cleveland, Ohio, where she ran a printing press for United Way Services for more than 27 years. She moved back to Fairdale two years ago.
She was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Slone; and a brother, Louis Stover.
Survivors include a son, Rodney Veverka of Fairdale; two daughters, Debbie Slone Harrill of Delmont, Pa., and Paulette Slone of Cleveland; three grandchildren, Lauren, Olivia and Travis Harrill; a brother, Ted Stover of Dayton, Ohio; and a sister, Nadine Stover of Fairdale.
The family may be contacted at 771 Logan Turnpike Road, Fairdale.
There will be no services.

Doan F. Young
VISALIA, Calif. -- Doan F. Young, 80, formerly of Nimitz, died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, in a Visalia hospital following a long illness.
Born Dec. 16, 1917, at Dunloop, he was the son of the late Frank Young and Annie Mae Johnson Young.
Mr. Young was a coal miner while living in West Virginia, was a carpenter and retired from carpentry work. He was a member of the Beckley Masonic Lodge No. 95 AF and AM.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lura Bell Pack Young.
Survivors include a daughter, Ladonna Samuels and her husband, Richard, of Visalia, Calif.; three brothers, Glen Young of San Juan Capistrano, Calif., Gene Young of Maryland and Walter Young of Kentucky; two sisters, Janet Harmon of Maryland and Jewel Young of West Virginia; a nephew, Danny Clark of Alexandria, Va.; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Bridgie and Jimmie Clark of Hinton; a grandchild, Tracy Christallo and her husband, Alex, of Visalia, Calif.; and a great-grandchild, Nicholas Christallo of Visalia, Calif.
Services will be 11 a.m. today at Rose and Quesenberry Shady Spring Chapel with the Rev. Tommy Pack officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
Friends called 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Stanley Allen, 48, of Lester, died Saturday, Dec. 5, 1998, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness.

Ray Jennings Amick
LEIVASY -- Ray Jennings Amick, 75, died Friday, Dec. 4, 1998 at his home following a long illness.
Born Aug. 25, 1923, at Leivasy, he was the son of the late Robert Fulton and Elva McCurcheon Amick.
Mr. Amick was a lifetime resident of Leivasy, a member of New Prospect Baptist Church of Leivasy, and a retired coal miner and farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Hoke Amick of Leivasy; a daughter, Pamela Jean O'Dell of Leivasy; two sons, Fred R. Amick of Leivasy and James E. Amick of Nettie; three sisters, Marie Ball of Christiansburg, Va., Beulah Pratt of Summersville and Ruth Ann Ballard of Palm Bay, Fla.; three brothers, Robert L. Amick of Lenoir, N.C., Everett H. Amick of Leivasy, and William Homer Amick of Hurricane; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at New Prospect Baptist Church, Leivasy, with the Revs. John Barnhouse and Troy George officiating. Burial will follow in Wallace Memorial cemetery, Clintonville.
Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Wallace and Wallace Chapel, Rainelle, and one hour before services Tuesday at the church.

Texie Baldwin
Texie Baldwin, 91, of Odd, died 9 a.m. Friday, Dec. 4, 1998, at the home of her daughter, Doris Meador of Odd, following a long illness.
Born Jan. 6, 1907, at Odd, she was the daughter of the late "Bill" Cole and Alimenta Wood Cole.
Mrs. Baldwin was a homemaker and a member of the Good Hope Baptist Church at Tommy's Creek. She had been a resident of Odd most of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Basil Baldwin; and two infant children.
Survivors include three sons, Harold L. Baldwin and his wife, Madge, of Levenworth, Kan., Basil L. Baldwin Jr. and his wife, Wanda, of Helen, and Kermit L. Baldwin and his wife, Phyllis, of Crab Orchard; two daughters, Betty White and her husband, James, of Princewick, and Doris L. Meador of Odd; two sisters, Fern Jones of Fort Mill, S.C., and Elsie Spradling of Moneta, Va.; 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. today at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel with the Rev. Larry Penix officiating. Burial will follow in Bowling cemetery, Spanishburg.
Friends called Saturday at the funeral home.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Zada Lucas Brooks
Zada Lucas Brooks, 88, died 7:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 4, 1998, in an Oak Hill hospital following a long illness.
Born Jan. 14, 1916, at Marshes, she was the daughter of the late Harrison Lucas and Clara Manning Lucas.
Mrs. Brooks was a homemaker and a member of Breckenridge Missionary Baptist Church at Bolt. She had been a Beckley resident since 1968, having lived in the Bolt area most of her life.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wint Brooks; a son, James Morris Brooks; a sister, Inez Griffith; and a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Shirey.
Survivors include a son, Vandell W. Brooks of Franklin; two daughters, Irene Renault of Vero Beach, Fla., and Maxine Brown and her husband, Worley, of Summersville, and Nancy Brooks Brown of Beckley; a daughter-in-law, Rosetta Brooks of Bolt; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 3 p.m. today at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel with the Revs. Wayne Terry and Maurice Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.
Friends called Saturday at the funeral home.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Shirley June Carden
RICHWOOD -- Shirley June Carden, 65, died Friday, Dec. 4, 1998, in a Charleston hospital of acute myocardial infarction.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Simons-Coleman Funeral Home, Richwood. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Macel Mae Daniels
RUPERT -- Macel Mae Daniels, 75, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1998, at a Jacksonville, Fla., hospital following a sudden illness.
Born Oct. 25, 1923, at Clifftop, she was the daughter of the late Cecil Rupert and Eva Lillian King Gilkerson.
Mrs. Daniels was a homemaker and a member of Amwell Baptist Church, Rupert, where she also served as a ladies' aide.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Faye Letha Gilkerson Ballengee; and three brothers, Bernard Burnette Gilkerson, Harold Haven Gilkerson and Earl Jackson Gilkerson.
Survivors include her husband, Floyd Daniels; three sons, Roy Daniels of Virginia Beach, Va., Gary Daniels of Rupert and Denzil Daniels of Newark, Del.; a sister, Anna V. Yoakum of Rupert; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Amwell Baptist Church, Rupert, with the Rev. Robert Newman officiating. Burial will follow in Wallace Memorial cemetery, Clintonville.
Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at Wallace and Wallace Chapel, Rainelle, and 10 a.m. until time of service Monday at the church.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Ethel Baker Hill, 68, formerly of Dunbar, died Friday, Dec. 4, 1998, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Grandview Memorial Gardens, Dunbar.

Lessie Killen
COVINGTON, Va. -- Lessie Mae Alley Killen, 85, of 2133 Dressler Drive, died Dec. 4, 1998, at her home.
Born May 23, 1913, in Tazwell County, she was the daughter of the late James Alley and Minnie Davis Alley.
Mrs. Killen had been a resident of Meadow Bridge most of her life, moving to Covington in 1996. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Orvil A. Killen Sr., in 1980; 21 brothers and sisters and two grandchildren.
Survivors include eight children and their spouses, Barbara K. and W.T. Jones of Virginia Beach, Va., Louella K. and Bob Caudill of Louisville, Ky., John A. and Barbara W. Killen of Covington, Jerry C. and Bonnie Killen of Meadow Bridge, Orvil A. and Carmella Killen of Mount Nebo, James R. and Phyllis Killen of Savannah, Ga., Nellie K. and Gordon Jones of Winchester, Ky., Raymond E. and Dorothy Killen of Union Grove, Ala.; a special friend, Judy Hunter Meadows of Rainelle; 20 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Wallace Memorial Gardens, Sam Black Church, with the Rev. R. Otis Colston officiating.
Friends may call 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to Mountain Regional Hospice, 1417 Main St., Clifton Forge, VA 24422.

Roy C. Long
HINTON -- Roy C. Long, 77, of 818 Summers St., died Friday, Dec. 4, 1998, at his home following an apparent heart attack.
Born Oct. 14, 1921, at Covington, Va., he was the son of the late Clarence E. and Effie M. Morgan Long.
Mr. Long was a retired chief train dispatcher for the C & O Railroad with 42 years of service. He was a member and elder of the First Christian Church of Hinton, where he was very involved in the activities of the church. He had been a resident of Hinton for the past 60 years. He was a member of the Hinton Masonic Lodge #62, Morse Telegraph Club Inc., Greenbrier County Historical Society, National Railway Historical Society, and The American Train Dispatchers Association. For the past 12 years, he wrote Railroad Recollections, a weekly column for the Hinton News that depicted life in and around railroad towns during their early history. He also wrote and published the Long Family History.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Bessie Oleta Cobb and Shirley Avenel Griffith.
Survivors include his wife, Willianna Hancock Long at home; two sons, Doug Long and Fred Long both of Hinton; two grandchildren, Victor Long and his wife, Amy, of Princeton and Trudy Long of Beckley; and five sisters, Edna Leola DeHart, Hazel Jane Tyree, Ina Mae Chruch, Excovene Myrtle Critzer and Dorothy Alrene Keifer.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel, Hinton, with Pastor Gary Adkins officiating. Burial will follow in Restwood Memorial Gardens, Hinton.
Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Wheeler, Gary Meador, Guy Presley, Garland Tyree, Al Stone and Dennis Robertson.
