Andrew H. Gibson

OCEANA ­ Andrew Herman Gibson, 86, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, at a Beckley hospital following a short illness.

Born July 11, 1913, in Logan County, he was the son of the late Levi and Neely Osborne Gibson.

Mr. Gibson was employed in the coal industry for 44 years with Lorado Coal Co. and Eastern Associated Coal Corp. He was a member of the UMWA for 68 years.

He was a Christian for 38 years, served as deacon and was a member of the Full Gospel Tabernacle. He was a charter member and trustee of Bible Baptist Church.

Mr. Gibson was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Kathleen Toler Gibson; a son, Roger Lee "Chico" Gibson; a daughter, Janet Carol Gibson; three grandchildren; a brother, Walker "Posse" Gibson; and three sisters, Anna Gibson Crouse, Mamie Gibson Toler, and Minnie Gibson Huffman.

Survivors include five sons, Dewey Gibson and wife, Cindi, of Centerville, Va., William Gibson and wife, Wanda, of Oceana, Herman Gibson and wife, Jill, of Oceana, Eric Gibson and wife, Connie, of Oceana, and Randy Gibson of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; six daughters, Bertha Hill and husband, Harold, of Glen Fork, Vita Reed and husband, Walt, of Elgin, Ill., Aloma Bowden and husband, Tracy, of Oceana, Sue Cline and husband, Butch, of Oceana, Debbie Kennedy and husband, Terry, of Beckley, and Trona Harrison and husband, Randy, of Collinsville, Va.; 11 grandsons; 11 granddaughters; five great-grandsons; and two great-granddaughters.

Services will be noon today at the Bible Baptist Church at Kopperston with Pastor Earl Brewer and the Rev. David Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.

Friends called after 6 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Thomas D. Gray

DIXIE ­ Thomas D. Gray, 62, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Bell Creek Missionary Baptist Church, Dixie.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the Bell Creek Missionary Baptist Church.

Lola T. Gunnoe

Lola Tolley Gunnoe, 66, of Fairdale, died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 1999, at her home following a short illness.

Emogene McCutcheon

ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. ­ Emogene Small McCutcheon, 72, of 156 Norman Joines Rd., died unexpectedly Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.

A native of Winona, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Elizabeth Heslep Small.

Mrs. McCutcheon was a retired school teacher who taught in Powell County, Ky. She was a member of the Elizabethton Widow's Club and Elizabethton Senior Citizens.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry McCutcheon on Oct. 5, 1995; and a sister.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Carl E. and Lora McCutcheon of Elizabethton, and Harry L. and Rebecca McCutcheon of Albany, Ohio; three brothers, George Small of Troy, Ohio, Jim Small of Rupert, and Jack Small of Detroit, Mich.; four grandchildren, David M. McCutcheon of Copperas Cove, Texas, Colleen Austin of Knoxville, Tenn., Molly Christa McCutcheon of Livermore Calif., and Kaleb Levi McCutcheon of Albany, Ohio; a great-grandson, Kevin Michael McCutcheon; a great-granddaughter, Amber Lee McCutcheon, both of Copperas Cove, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Tetrick Funeral Home, 211 North Riverside Drive, Elizabethton, Tenn. A private disposition will be held at a later date.

Friends may call 7 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations of sympathy may be made to the United Way of Elizabethton, P.O. Box 1715, Elizabethton, TN 37644.

WAYSIDE ­ Dorsie Franklin Meadows, 86, died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 1999, at a Hinton hospital following a long illness.

Giles E. Musick

MONTGOMERY ­ Giles E. Musick, 72, died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 1999, in a Montgomery hospital following a short illness.

Born July 23, 1927, in Cleveland, Va., he was the son of the late Rev. Grover C. Musick Sr. and Mary B. Smith Musick.

Mr. Musick was president of Bown Chevrolet Company in Montgomery, a Fayette County businessman, a former Montgomery City Councilman, a member of the Gauley Bridge Baptist Church, and a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. He was a member of the American Legion, Gauley Bridge, the Rotary Club in Montgomery, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow, member of the Sons of the American Revolution, and a former member of the Board of Directors of The City National Bank in Montgomery.

Survivors include his wife, Jo Ann Bess Musick; three sons, Ronald and Brent Musick, both of Montgomery, and Mark Music of Gauley Bridge; a sister, Thelma Ullman of La Marque, Texas; a brother, Grover C. Musick Jr. of South Gate, Mich.; and grandchildren, Amy Musick, Kris Musick and Christina Musick.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Pennington Funeral Home Chapel, Gauley Bridge, with the Rev. Charles H. Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Restlawn Memory Gardens, Victor.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Pennington Funeral Home.

Donations of sympathy may be made to the Rotary Club of Montgomery, P.O. Box 941, Montgomery, WV 25136.

Lea Zorio Pilato

FAYETTEVILLE ­ Lea Zorio Pilato, 83, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness.

Born Jan. 4, 1916, in Lundale, she was the daughter of the late E.P. and Edvige Zorio.

Mrs. Pilato was a head cashier for Ben Franklin Store in Fayetteville and was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Fayette Heights.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Pilato; and four brothers, Peter, Valdo, Nelson and Jelso Zorio.

Survivors include three sons, Joseph E. Pilato and wife, Teresa, Michael A. Pilato and wife, Myrna and George "Steve" Pilato and wife, Ann, all of Fayetteville; three sisters, Dora Ramella and Valda Janutolo, both of Fayetteville and Thelma Timberlake of Des Moines, Iowa; and six grandchildren, Eric, Michael, James, Bryan, Courtney and Toni Pilato.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home Chapel, Fayetteville, with the Rev. Hayward Lough officiating. Burial will follow in Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville.

Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Charles H. Smallwood

PINEVILLE ­ Charles Hamilton Smallwood, 72, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness.

Born June 6, 1927, in Douglasville, Ga., he was the son of the late Adrian and Emma Pearl Layton Smallwood.

Mr. Smallwood worked 43 years as a coal miner and retired as a supervisor from Olga Coal Company at Coalwood.

He was a World War II and Korean War Navy veteran, a mason with membership in the Pineville Masonic Lodge No. 138, and a Shriner.

Mr. Smallwood was a member of the American Legion Varney Cline Post 133 and an active member in their funeral honor guard. He was a member of the Pineville Presbyterian Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Lowman Smallwood.

Survivors include a son, Charles C. Smallwood and his wife, Kathy, of Louisville, Ky.; a daughter, Judy Gunter and her husband, Ronald, of Jesse; four sisters, Jewel Hedges of Shelby Township, Mich., Mary Louvet of Rodchester Hills, Mich., Jean Crigger of West Salem, Ga., and Jackie Woodand of Columbus,, Ga.; two brothers, J.T. Smallwood of Columbus, Ga., and Roger Smallwood of Cornelia, Ga.; six grandchildren, Jeremy Gunter of Chesapeake, Va., Rebecca Gunter of South Charleston, Angela Gunter of Athens, Ga., Jeff Smallwood of Louisville, Ky., Joe Smallwood of Seymour, Ind., Amy Harper of Louisville, Ky.; a great-grandson, Noah Martin Smallwood; a special sister-in-law, Janice Lowman of Tazewell, Va.; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Calfee Funeral Service Chapel, with the Rev. Barbara Ann Hedin officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Wyoming County Honor Guard.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at Calfee Funeral Service, Pineville.

ARBOVALE ­ Hiner Waybright, 82, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home, Arbovale.

Eugene Edward Allen

LINDSIDE - Eugene Edward Allen, 79, went to be with our Lord Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, following a long illness.

Born July 15, 1920, in Bozoo, he was the son of the late Lee H. and Lura E. Wills Allen.

Mr. Allen had made his home in Lindside since 1957. He was the founder of Allen's Furniture in 1947 and throughout his life dabbled in many ventures such as peddling wares and goods. Through these ventures, he never met a stranger, as he loved to talk as much as breathe. He was his happiest on a tractor, putting up hay or chasing his cattle.

Mr. Allen was a disabled coal miner and a member of UMWA Local No. 29. He also was a longtime pastor in the Church of God and evangelized throughout West Virginia and Virginia. He was a charter member of the Lighthouse Church of God in Union.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Rena Humphreys; twin sister, Geraldine Shires; and two brothers, Timmy and Clifton Allen.

Mr. Allen left behind his beloved wife of 60 1Ž2 years, Thelma Wickline Allen; four children, Pat Harvey and her husband Jackie, Nancy Utterback and her husband Bill, the Rev. James E. "Jimmy" Allen and his wife Sonie, and Richard "Dicky" Allen and his wife Gayle, all of Lindside; nine grandchildren, Kathy Rushden and her husband Ray of Logan, Debbie Forren and her husband Homer of Greenville, Trina Shoda and her husband Mike, Terry Utterback and his wife Sheila, both of Lindside, Rodney Allen and his wife Amy of Lewisburg, Heather Allen, Kaneetha Allen, Angela Allen and Tiffany Allen, all of Lindside; and nine great-grandchildren. Other survivors include two brothers, John "Harry" Allen and Woodrow "Pudd" Allen both of Peterstown; and two sisters, Betty Mutter and Thelma Pennington, both of Rich Creek, Va.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Lighthouse Church of God in Union with the Rev. James E. Allen, the Rev. C.R. Callahan and the Rev. Mike Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Swope cemetery at Lindside.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the Lighthouse Church of God in Union.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Terry Utterback, Rodney Allen, Ray Rushden, Homer Forren, Mike Shoda and Brandon Harvey. Honorary pallbearers will be Dave Humphreys, Melvin King, McClure Miller, Hubert Wills, Gene Craig, Jim Thomas, Watha Rice, Junior Dillon, Jimmy Craig, Jerry Rogers, Jason Johnson, Jeff Davis, Tommy Shires, H.W. Shires, Charles Shires, Sam Shires, Donnie Bradley, Kenny Allen, Robert Allen, Roger Allen, Darrell Pennington, Tommy Wickline, Eddie Joe Wickline, Kevin Wickline, Dean Evans and David Thompson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Lighthouse Church of God or the Lighthouse Youth Center Project, P.O. Box 516, Union, WV 24983.
