LEWISBURG - Mary Padgett Griffith, 67, died at 11:50 p.m. Monday, Feb. 28, 2000, in a Fairlea medical center following a long illness.
Born April 2, 1932, in Sweet Springs, she was the daughter of the late George T. and Mackie Worsham Padgett.
Mrs. Griffith was a member of Lewisburg United Methodist Church and Circle No. 1, and was recently the recipient of a life membership in the Lewisburg United Methodist Women. She served on several committees of the church.
She held membership in Lewisburg Chapter No. 108, Order of the Eastern Star, where she held the office of organist for a while. She was retired from the Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Co.
Mrs. Griffith was co-owner and vice president of the former Griffith Bryant Ford Co. in Lewisburg. She was a member of the W.I.B.C. and Seniors Bowling League.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, George T. Jr., Ralph L., Paul L. and Warren F. Padgett; and three sisters, Elizabeth Spellman, Della Martin and Shirley Gale Padgett.
Survivors include her husband, L. Wade Griffith; two brothers, Winfred Padgett and his wife, Gladys, of Roanoke, Va., and Charles F.Padgett and his wife, Debbie, of Cary, N.C.; two sisters, Mrs. Gordon (Peggy) Baker of Sweet Springs and Mrs. Bob (Janet) Baker of Covington, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Lewisburg United Methodist Church with the Revs. Julian Sulgit and Patricia Jarvis and Dr. Ross Evans officiating. Burial will follow in Rosewood cemetery.

RUPERT - Audrey Clair Jones, 78, died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, in Brier Nursing Home, Fairlea, following a long illness.
Born June 8, 1921, in Menifee County, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Corbett and America Webb Clair Botts.
Ms. Jones had been a resident of Rupert for the past five years and was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elvin Jones.
Survivors include three sisters, Alma Humphries Lumadue and her husband, Harold, of Dunbar, Imogene Webb Ailstock and her husband, Bobby Gene, of Rupert, and Lillian Webb Harless and her husband, Walter, of Meadow Bridge.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home Chapel, Rainelle, with the Rev. Houston Boothe officiating. Burial will follow in Wallace Memorial cemetery, Clintonville.

Vernon Dale Martin, 47, of Bolt, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, at a Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital following a long illness.
Born Feb. 9, 1953, in Lester, he was the son of the late Alexander Martin and Pearley Mae Goff Martin.
Mr. Martin was a former employee of Gene Durham Construction Co. as a construction worker.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Dallas Roscoe, Kelmer Lee and Sherman Martin; and a sister, Clara Mae Martin.
Survivors include three brothers, Robert Martin and his wife, Georgia, of Shady Spring, Fred Martin and his wife, Margaret, of Lester, and Kenneth "Tommy" Martin and his wife, Sherry, of Bolt; five sisters, Loujean Tolley of Bolt, Ruth Ann Crawford and her husband, Russell, of Bolt, Beulah Massey of Beckley, Lucille Clower and her husband, Ted, of Glen White and Alice Vaughan and her husband, Kenny, of Mullens.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Williams-Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Sophia, with the Revs. Ernestine Martin and George Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Acord cemetery, Slab Fork.

Urvin C. Mills
Urvin C. Mills, 93, of 3016 Hinton Road, White Oak Mountain, died at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at a Beckley hospital following a short illness.
Born May 7, 1906, in Jumping Branch, he was the son of the late Amos Posey Mills and Cora Simmons Mills.
Mr. Mills was a retired farmer, timberman and coal miner, and was a former employee of the West Virginia Department of Highways. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Shady Spring, a member of the UMWA and a lifelong resident of the Jumping Branch and White Oak areas.
He was preceded in death by three daughters, Florence Richmond, Nora Walker and Ruby Mills; three sisters, Versie Mills, Ora Cochran and Myrtle Lilly; a brother, Lacy Mills; two grandsons; a great-granddaughter; and a great-great-grandson.
Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Virgie Smith Mills; three daughters, Mildred Adkins of White Oak, June Crawford of Sweet Water, Texas, and Ethel Phillips and her husband, Leslie, of White Oak; a sister, Macie Lilly of Beckley; many nephews, nieces, and friends; including a special nephew, Lonnie Mills of White Oak; 19 grandchildren; 36 grealt-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Frank M. O'Neal
CORINNE - Frank Miles O'Neal, 88, went home to be with his Lord on Monday, Feb. 28, 2000, following a short illness.
Born Jan. 26, 1912, in Roan's Creek, Tenn., he was the son of the late Carrie O'Neal.
Mr. O'Neal attended Welton Bible Chapel in Allen Junction and spent most of his life in Wyoming County working as a coal miner. After retirement from Itmann Coal Co., he and his family enjoyed countless hours fishing in the Greenbrier and New rivers.
He was an excellent wood carver, making beautiful treasures of art for all his loved ones. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Zola Irene Smith O'Neal; four sons, Eugene O'Neal and his wife, Doris, of Itmann, Herbert O'Neal and his wife, Irene, of Illinois, Sam O'Neal and his wife, Jean, of Corinne and David O'Neal and his wife, Rose, of Mullens; three daughters, Carol Ashley and her husband, Douglas, of Mullens, Grace Stone and her husband, Lewis, of Mullens, and Donna Cayton and her husband, Wayne, of Parkersburg; two sisters, Eliza Matheson of Butler, Tenn., and Frances Lewis of Pocatello, Idaho; 18 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. David Pollack officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Robert Rhinehart
Robert Rhinehart, 75, of 314 Lincoln St., Beckley, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, at a Beckley hospital following a short illness.
Born Nov. 24, 1924, in Mallory, he was the son of the late Isaac Shepard Rinehart and Susieanna Hunter Rinehart.
Mr. Rhinehart was employed as a miner, and later he became owner and operator of Rhinehart Garbage for 38 years. He was a dedicated and active member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, Beckley.
He attended Byrd Prillerman and Stratton High School, was an avid sports fan and volunteered as a sports coach.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jesse and Nathaniel Rinehart; and two sisters, Georgianna King and Alice Rinehart.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Lois Tyree Rhinehart; five children, Robert Rinehart and his wife, Diane, of Columbus, Ohio, David and his wife, Phyllis, of Beckley, Deobrah Tyler and her husband, Miles, of Houston, Christi Rinehart of Philadelphia and Richard Rinehart of Beckley; brothers and sisters, Fred (Beatrice) Rinehart of Columbus, Charles Rinehart, John (Mary), Leroy (Lois) and Roberta Herbert, all of Springfield, Mass., Arthur Rinehart of St. Paul, Minn., Alice Pauline Rinehart and Paul Rinehart, both of San Francisco, Vivian Rinehart of Los Angeles, Clarence (Alice) Rinehart of San Antonio, Texas, Kenneth (Paula) Rinehart of Houston, Verna (John) Harbison of Cleveland, Cecil Rinehart of Fairborne, Ohio, and James (Clara) Rinehart of Beckley; 10 grandchildren; a great-grandchild.

OAK HILL - Clara Rollins Altice, 70, of 121 Trump Ave., died Wednesday, March 1, 2000, at Hidden Valley Care Center following a short illness.
Born May 7, 1929, in Beards Fork, she was the daughter of the late Alexander Rollins and Adelene McKinney Rollins.
Mrs. Altice was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include a daughter, Connie S. Pate of Oak Hill; a granddaughter, Caitlin Pate; a sister, Geneva Kincaid of Newport, N.C.; and a brother, Lester Rollins of Fairmont, N.C.
