Naomi R. Hill

MULLENS - Naomi R. Hill, 83, died Wednesday, March 1, 2000, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness.

Born March 31, 1916, at Athens, she was the daughter of the late John and Eva Gray Dobbins.

Mrs. Hill was a homemaker and had been a resident of Mullens since 1948. She attended the Christian Divine Church of Mullens.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Aries A. Hill, in 1969.

Survivors include her daughters, Phyllis Tracy and her husband, William, of New Jersey, and Eva Smith of Mullens; her sons, James A. Hill and his wife, Lynn, of Farmville, Va., and John D. Hill and his wife, Shirley, of Glen Allen, Va.; three sisters, Hazel Pettrey of Princeton, Ozella Lott of Ohio, and Gertrude Higginbotham of Texas; a brother, David Dobbins of Athens; nine grandchildren; 14 grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel, Mullens, with the Revs. Bill Linkous and Lewis Arnold officiating. Burial will follow in the Gunter Family cemetery, Gardner.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at Tankersley Funeral Home.

James W. Hopkins

RICH CREEK, Va. - James Walter Hopkins, 92, died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Broyles-Shrewsbury, Peterstown.

Friends may call 11:30 a.m. until time of the services Saturday at the funeral home.

Nina M. Hughes

LIVERMORE, Calif. - Nina Mildred Hughes, 88, formerly of Beckley, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000.

Private services for the family have been held.

Blanche R. Kincaid

SCARBRO - Blanche Randolph Kincaid, 80, died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, in a Charlotte, N.C. hospital following a short illness.

Mrs. Kincaid was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church at Whipple and was a homemaker.

Survivors include two daughters, Candida C. Kincaid of Charleston, and Vera C. Clyburn of Charlotte, N.C.; a son, Toney A. Kincaid of Charleston; a sister, Velda Holland of Wilmington, Del.; a brother, Raymond Pleasant of Roanoke, Va.; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Services will be 1 p.m. today at New Hope Baptist Church, Whipple, with the Revs. Freddie A. Davenport Sr., A.L. Simms, Walter Leach and Robert I. Brown officiating. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until noon and the family will receive friends from noon until 1 p.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church in care of Emma Cosby, P.O. Box 97, Scarbro, WV 25917.

Lucy B. Malashevich

Lucy Beryl Loudermilk Malashevich, 80, of Beckley, formerly of Summerlee, died Wednesday, March 1, 2000, in the Hidden Valley Health Care Center, Oak Hill, following a short illness.

Born Nov. 27, 1919, at Princewick, she was the daughter of the late Clark and Lottie Judy Loudermilk.

Mrs. Malashevich was a homemaker and a member of the Summerlee Freewill Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Malashevich, March 11, 1985; and a son, John Malashevich Jr.

Survivors include a son, Nathan Malashevich of Falls Church, Va.; three daughters, Judy Lambrecht of Toledo, Ohio, Janet Hinson of Summerlee, and Jerry Tolstick of Elyria, Ohio; two brothers, Roscoe Loudermilk of Prosperity and Richard Loudermilk of Waterford, Mich.; four sisters, Hester Cummings of Beckley, Madge Williams of Beckley, Nadine Stone of Bradley and Cleo Nagye of Prosperity; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Tyree Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Gary Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the IOOF cemetery, Oak Hill.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Thelma L. Martin

ASHLAND, Ohio - Thelma Louise Martin, 69, formerly of Craigsville, died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2000.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Simons-Coleman Funeral Home, Richwood. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Clarence V. Rogers

OAK HILL - Clarence Vincent Rogers, 83, died Wednesday, March 1, 2000, at his home following a long illness.

Born Dec. 26, 1916, at Oak Hill, he was the son of the late L.C. and Edna Legg Rogers.

Mr. Rogers was a retired maintenance worker for the Fayette County Board of Education, Fayetteville. He was a member of the Fellowship Memorial Baptist Church, Oak Hill, a charter member of the West Virginia Boxing Hall of Fame and a National Golden Gloves Champion.

He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Ruth Dick Rogers, Dec. 6, 1999.

Survivors include four sons, Richard C. Rogers of Oak Hill, Michael Rogers of Cleveland, Tenn., John Rogers of Oak Hill, and Thomas Rogers of Dothan; two daughters, Barbara Dixon of Oak Hill, and Virginia Futrell of Cary, N.C.; eight grandchlidren, Richard V. Rogers of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, John Dixon of Oak Hill, Christopher Rogers of Cleveland, Tenn., Vincent Parker of Raleigh, N.C., Timmy Parker of Raleigh, N.C., Stacy Cash of Cleveland, Tenn., Brian Dixon of Buloxi, Miss., and Thomas Rogers Jr. of Dothan; and one great-granddaughter, Micala Cash of Cleveland, Tenn.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Tyree Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill, with the Revs. Bill Menefee and Darrell Fuller officiating. Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Friends called 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be John Dixon, Brian Dixon, Rick Rogers, Chris Rogers, T.J. Rogers, Timmy Parker and Vincent Parker.

SECOND CREEK - Aubrey W. Saunders, 75, died Wednesday, March 1, 2000.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Groves Funeral Home Chapel, Union. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

John H. Scott

EVANS, Ga. - John Howard Scott, 63, formerly of Oak Hill, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, in the Kentwood Nursing Home, Evans, Ga., following a long illness.

Born June 24, 1936, at Oak Hill, he was the son of the late John and Verna Sue Amole Scott.

Mr. Scott was a journalism graduate of Northwestern Unviersity. He received a master's degree in elementary education from American University and did additional graduate work in education at the University of Virginia and George Mason University.

He was a reporter at The Washington Post for a year before becoming a teacher.

Mr. Scott began his education career at Fairfax County, Va., Cedar Lane Elementary in 1959 and later was assistant priincipal at Kings Glen Elementary and principal of Little Run Elementary. He helped pioneer the county's gifted and talented program for elementary students. When he retired in 1989 he was coordinator of special projects for Fairfax County elementary schools.

He served as president of the Fairfax Association of Elementary School Principals and was its executive director after he retired. He was also president of the Virginia Association of Elementary School Principals and a member of its national parent organization. He was newsletter editor of the Fairfax chapter of the Phi Delta Kappa educational society and a member of Fairlington United Methodist Church in Alexandria, Va.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Margaret Louise Maynard Scott; a son, Richard S. Scott of Augusta, Ga.; a daughter, Ellen Susanne Slater of Orlando, Fla.; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Scott Slaters, Jamie Clark Slater, Zachary James Slater, and Aubry Jean Scott; and a great-granddaughter, Imalai Slater.

Memorial services will be 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with the Rev. James Shepherd officiating.

Friends may call 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Harry B. Snyder

CALDWELL - Harry Benjamin "Bennie" Snyder, 84, of Stillwater, died Wednesday, March 1, 2000, at the Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Fairlea, following an extended illness.

Born Feb. 5, 1916, at Dahmer, he was the son of the late Harry Pleasant and Cora Propst Snyder.

In 1939, Mr. Snyder founded the Snyder Lumber Company in Franklin, and operated a heavy construction and construction materials company. Since 1964, he had been a part of RBS, Inc., Caldwell, the successor to some of the businesses he founded and which now include the third generation grandsons, William and David Snyder.

He was a member of the Contractors Association of West Virginia and the First Presbyterian Church, White Sulphur Springs, in which he was a trustee and Elder and had served on two building committees. He was an experienced pilot and avid flyer and was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. He was also a skilled hobbyist woodworker.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bernice Snyder in 1978; and a daughter, J. Sharon Butler in 1984.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Snyder; three sons, Ronald B. Snyder and wife, Suzanne, of Lewisburg, Matthew D. Snyder and wife, Sophia, of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Stephen D. Snyder and wife, Margaret, of Tyler, Texas; stepchildren, Frank Peltier and wife, Wallys, of Marshall, Va., Jeanette Merwin and husband, Daniel, of Charlotte, N.C., Paul Peltier and wife, Tanya, of Forest, Va., James Peltier and wife, Lisa, of Belpre, Ohio, Emily Bowling and husband, Brad, of Mechanicsville, Va.; a brother, Everett Snyder of Franklin; four sisters, Ella Mae Riggleman, Gladys Hartman, Sally Lambert and Mary Warner, all of Franklin; and 18 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church, White Sulphur Springs, with the Rev. Ben E. Gurley officiating. A private entombment will be at the Snyder Family cemetery, White Sulphur Springs.

The family will receive their friends at the church following the services Saturday.

Donations of sympathy may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Building, Fund, 201 W. Main St., White Sulphur Springs, WV 24986.
