HAMILTON, Ohio - Sarah H. Pugh Emminger, 84, died at 2:35 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, 2000, in Cape Coral (Fla.) Hospital.
Born in Beckley, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Mary Alice McGee Pugh.
She was educated in Trap Hill schools. On May 19, 1967, she married Vincent Emminger. She was employed as a manager at Charm Fashion Store in Beckley and the Kroger Co. in Cincinnati. She was a member of St. Ann Church, Hamilton, and served on the Rosary Society.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Pugh; and a son, Frank "Bud" Dix.
Survivors include her husband, Vincent; three daughters, Peggy (James) Lang of Cincinnati, Mary Alice Nicholson of Morgantown and stepdaughter Linda Emminger-Reiter of Fairfield, Ohio; a daughter-in-law, Darlene Dix of Cincinnati; four brothers, James and Edgar Pugh, both of Eccles, Dexter Pugh of Cleveland and Leonard Pugh of Gallipolis, Ohio; three sisters, Neoma Lilly of Beckley, Margaret Stone of Eccles and Pearl Hebb of Shady Spring; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Prayers will be 9:30 a.m. Monday at Paul R. Young Funeral Home, 3950 Pleasant Ave., Hamilton, followed by Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Ann Church, Hamilton, with Father Dennis Dettenwanger officiating. Burial will follow in Arlington Memorial Gardens, Cincinnati.

PETERSTOWN - Ruth Harry, 74, died Thursday, March 2, 2000, in Princeton Community Hospital.
Born June 24, 1925, in Monroe County, she was the daughter of the late Homer and Josephine Helvey Burns.
Mrs. Harry was a graduate of Peterstown High School, former credit manager for Sears and a member of Peterstown United Methodist Church and the Ladies Bible Class.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kirkner Harry, in 1982; and a granddaughter, Heather Mooney, in 1983.
Survivors include a daughter, Rita Mooney and her husband, Marvin, of Peterstown; a brother, Jerry Burns and his wife, Sue, of Morgantown; two sisters, Patty Newberry and her husband, Steve, and Jewell Brown and her husband, Dale, all of Peterstown; a grandson, Mike Mooney and his wife, Christie, of Bluefield; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Peterstown United Methodist Church with the Rev. Scott Sears officiating. Burial will follow in Sunrise Memorial Gardens cemetery, Rich Creek, Va.

Naomi R. Hill
MULLENS - Naomi R. Hill, 83, died Wednesday, March 1, 2000, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness.
Born March 31, 1916, in Athens, she was the daughter of the late John and Eva Gray Dobbins.
Mrs. Hill was a homemaker and had been a resident of Mullens since 1948. She attended Christian Divine Church of Mullens.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Aries A. Hill, in 1969.
Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis Tracy and her husband, William, of New Jersey and Eva Smith of Mullens; two sons, James A. Hill and his wife, Lynn, of Farmville, Va., and John D. Hill and his wife, Shirley, of Glen Allen, Va.; three sisters, Hazel Pettrey of Princeton, Ozella Lott of Ohio and Gertrude Higginbotham of Texas; a brother, David Dobbins of Athens; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. today at Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel, Mullens, with the Revs. Bill Linkous and Lewis Arnold officiating. Burial will follow in Gunter Family cemetery, Gardner.

William 'Les' Hornsby
OAKRIDGE - William L. "Les" Hornsby, 83, formerly of Smithers, died Friday, March 3, 2000, at a Charleston hospital following a long illness.
Born Dec. 23, 1916, in Clarksburg, he was the son of the late Henry Hornsby and Kathern Brody Hornsby.
Mr. Hornsby was a retired coal miner and a former foreman for Semet-Solvary Mines. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by a son, Leslie E. Hornsby; a sister, Frankie Butcher; and a brother, Hudson Wills Hornsby.
Survivors include his wife, Emmagene Caldwell Hornsby; a daughter, Kitty Lynn Williams of Pasco, Wash.; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Hornsby of Chesterfield, Va.; two brothers, Nesbit Hornsby of Oakridge and Walter Lee Hornsby of Clarksburg; a sister, Margaret Barker of Clarksburg; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home Chapel, Fayetteville, with the Rev. Robert Mattox officiating. Burial will follow in Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville.

William C. Johnson
DETROIT - William Curtis Johnson, 89, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2000, following a long illness.
Born April 15, 1910, in Huntington, he was the son of the late William G. and Nintha E. Johnson.
Mr. Johnson was baptized in 1923 by the Rev. A.D. Lewis at Sixteenth Street Baptist Church, Huntington. He was a 1927 graduate of Douglass High School, Huntington, received his bachelor's degree from West Virginia State College in 1932, his master's degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1942 and did further studies at Denison University in Ohio and Wayne State University in Michigan.
He spent his professional life as an educator. In 1933, he started as a teacher of mathematics at Conley High School in Wyoming County. He also served as coach of the basketball and football teams. In 1959, he moved from Beckley to Detroit and began teaching mathematics at Cleveland Junior High School. In 1976 after 43 years of service, he retired.
Mr. Johnson was a member of Omega Psi Phi fraternity and the West Virginia State College Alumni Association. He was an avid checker player and a member of the Detroit American Pool Checker Club for many years.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Mamie A. Johnson; a brother, Wendell; and Dorothy Roberts, to whom he was united in marriage in 1991.
He was loved by many. Survivors include his devoted son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Mary Johnson; a sister, Tanner J. Livesay; three grandsons, Robert, Darryl and Gordon; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Memorial services will be today at Swanson's Funeral Home, 14751 W. McNichols, Detroit.

FORT BENNING, Ga. - Margaret Elizabeth Tompkins, 82, formerly of Lansing, died Tuesday, March 2, 2000, at her home following a long illness.
Born Nov. 2, 1917, in Glen Morgan, she was the daughter of the late Lorenzo Walker and Ethel Smith.
Mrs. Tompkins was a housewife and a member of Ames Heights Bible Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Thomas Tompkins; two daughters, June Maichle and Ann Burns; and a brother, Andrew L. Walker.
Survivors include three sons, Marshall Tompkins of Wilmington, Del., Donald Tompkins of Oak Hill and John Tompkins of Fort Benning; eight stepchildren and more than 100 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Frieda M. Weatherford
CHARLESTON - Frieda M. Weatherford, 87, formerly of Peterstown, died Thursday, March 2, 2000, at the home of Dr. William and Ann Harris of complications of a stroke.
Mrs. Weatherford was a retired teacher and a member of Morris Memorial United Methodist Church and Peterstown United Methodist Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence H. Weatherford.
Survivors include her children, Ann Harris of Charleston, James E. Weatherford of Charlottesville, Va., Sue Verdura of Mexico, Jean Drescher of Virginia Beach, Va., and Mary Jo Morgan of Talcott; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bernard Marrs of Rainelle and William Marrs of Bluefield, Va.; and two sisters, Garnet Jamison of Clifton Forge, Va., and Esther Ruff of Roanoke, Va.
