Mrs. Mirba Higginbotham, 82, of Beckley, died Sunday, March 5, 2000, at Raleigh General Hospital follwing a long illness.

Arrangements by Rose and Quesenberry, Beckley.

Sarah Martha King

MIDDLEPONT, Ohio - Sarah Martha King, 86, formerly of Mount Nebo, Nicholas County, died Saturday, March 4, 2000.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in the White Funeral Home at Summersville. Interment will follow in the Backus cemetery on Airport Road in Summersville.

Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

James F. Kirby Sr.

James Franklin Kirby Sr., 61, of Alderson, died Saturday, March 4, 2000, at his home following a long illness.

Born Aug. 10, 1938, at Blakers Mill, he was the son of the late James William and Maggie Bowyer Kirby.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, George Kirby; and two sisters, Eleanor Kirby and Thelma Skaggs.

Mr. Kirby was a retired appliance repairman, having been the owner and operator of Kirby Refrigeration, Alderson, retiring after 30 years of service. He was a 1958 graduate of Union High School and a member of the Broad Run Baptist Church, Wolf Creek.

Survivors include his wife, Bertha Adkins Kirby of Alderson; two sons, James Franklin Kirby Jr. and wife, Rose, of Alderson, and Jesse Francis Kirby and companion, Brenda Harvey, of Alderson; two daughters, Bertha "Erma" Kirby Jones and husband, Wayne, of Wolf Creek, and Barbara Ellen Persinger and husband, James, of Sinks Grove; one brother, Roe Kirby and wife, Norma, of Rupert; two sisters, Clara Kirby of Fairlea and Rhoda Baker and husband, Aubrey, of Stow, Ohio; six grandchildren, Misty Deskins and husband, Brian, of Ronceverte, Jamie Jones of Wolf Creek, Briton Kirby of Alderson, Chase Kirby of Alderson, Paige Persinger of Sinks Grove and Jessica Persinger of Sinks Grove; two stepgrandchildren, Jerry Harvey Jr. of Alderson and Sabrina Jones of Salem, Ore.; one great-grandchild, Ciara Deskins of Ronceverte; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lobban Funeral Home Chapel, Alderson, with Pastor Youel Altizer officiating. Burial will be in the Fletcher Addition of the Alderson cemetery.

Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jamie Kirby, Emmett Kirby, Joe Doggett, Ray Adkins, Jimmy Jackson and Randy Auvil.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Ashby C. Bennett and Donald Duff.

Minnie Hughes Lilly

Mrs. Minnie Hughes Lilly, 86, of 428 Division St., Shady Spring, died 5:30 p.m. Saturday, March 4, 2000, at her home following a long illness.

Born Nov. 20, 1913, at Mountain View, she was the daughter of the late R.F. and Louisa Massey Hughes.

Mrs. Lilly was a homemaker and member of the Beckley Regular Baptist Church. She had made her home in Ghent and Shady Spring most of her life and in Oxford, N.C., for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Okey Lilly; a son, Larry Lilly; and two grandsons, Terry McFoy and Brett Lilly.

Surviving are three sons, Noel Lilly and wife, Jean, of Stockbridge, Ga., Ronald Lilly and wife, Rose, of Sanford, N.C., Ted Lilly and wife, Lucy, of Prosperity; three daughters, Pat McFoy and husband, Frank, of Wilmington, Del., Barbara Jarrell and husband, Paul, of McDonough, Ga., Sandra Bright and husband, Roger, of Shady Spring, with whom she made her home; three sisters, Virginia Kennedy of Beckley, Ethel Cole of Fayetteville, Ga., and Brooke Angle of Midway; 20 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, Beckley, with Pastor Randy Carroll officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity.

Friends may call 6 to 8:30 p.m. today.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

William G. Lilly

William G. Lilly, 91, of Flat Top, died Saturday, March 4, 2000, in a Princeton health care center of natural causes.

Born March 6, 1908, at Flat Top, he was the son of the late Isaiah and Belle Mayberry Lilly.

He was a graduate of Spanishburg High School. Mr. Lilly was a retired co-owner of Lilly Lumber Co., and he also was retired from farming. He was a member of the Flat Top Hunting Club and the Tazewell Farming Bureau. Mr. Lilly resided most of his life at Flat Top and Flat Top Lake. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Beatrice Joy Reed.

Survivors include his wife, Abbie Thelma Lilly of Flat Top; a son, William G. Lilly Jr. of Scott Depot; four daughters, Delores Sue Bryant and Barbara Jo Walker, both of Spanishburg, Mary Belle Compton of Berryville, Va., and Bernice Kiser Hammond of Stevensville, Md.; a stepdaughter, Rebecca Echols of Princeton; three stepsons, Rovey Lilly of California, Eugene Lilly of Shady Spring and Thomas Ellison; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Flat Top Primitive Baptist Church with the Rev. Lewis Lester officiating. Burial will follow in the Rogers-Lilly cemetery at Flat Top.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at Calfee Funeral Home, Beckley, and one hour before services Tuesday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Southern West Virginia Chapter of the Alzheimer's Foundation, c/o Calfee Funeral Home, 800 S. Oakwood Ave., Beckley, WV 25801.

India Mitchell

Miss India Mitchell, 90, of Gatewood, died Friday, March 3, 2000, at Hilltop Health Care Center, Hilltop, from natural causes.

Born May 15, 1909, in Gatewood, she was a member of the Gatewood Brethren Church and lifelong resident of Gatewood.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Sally Clower Mitchell.

Survivors include two sisters, Ethel F. Payne of Oak Hill and Jesse Jacobson of Grand Island, Neb.; 12 nieces and one nephew.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donation be made to the Gatewood Brethren Church.

Graveside rites will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Pleasant View cemetery, Pleasant View, with the Rev. William Skeldon officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant View cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

Earl H. O'Neal

Earl H. O'Neal, 74, of Beaver, died 8:12 a.m. Saturday, March 4, 2000, at Heartland of Beckley nursing home following a short illness.

Born July 25, 1935, at Odd, he was the son of the late Al O'Neal and Lonie Hawley O'Neal Morrison.

Mr. O'Neal was a retired employee of the Ford Motor Co. in Pontiac, Mich., and was a member of the United Auto Workers. He had made his home in Beaver for the past 15 years. Mr. O'Neal was a US Army veteran, having served during World War II.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dennis and Gaston O'Neal.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Webb O'Neal; four sons, Mark and Steve O'Neal of Ohio and Christopher and Travis O'Neal, both of Beaver; one daughter, Sandra Eagle of Victor; one brother, Paul O'Neal of Bishopville, S.C.; three sisters, Evelyn McDaniels of Glen Daniel, Delores Groszkiewcy of Cudahy, Wis., and Eloise Vell of Highland Village, Texas; and five grandchildren.

Graveside rites and burial will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Webb cemetery at Maple Meadow, with Bishop Fred Simms officiating.

There will be no visitation.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Sophia-Midway VFW Post 4326.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Danny Parker

Danny Parker, 62, of Pemberton, died Sunday, March 5, 2000, at his home following a short illness.

FREEHOLD, N.J. - Lowell Lawrence Spencer, 64, formerly of Hominy Falls, died Friday, March 3, 2000, at his home in New Jersey following a long illness.

Born May 21, 1935, at Hominy Falls, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Donna Spencer.

He was a retired factory worker and U.S. Navy veteran.

Mr. Spencer was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Phala Stephens and Luva Kincaid; and one brother, Roy Spencer.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Adams Spencer; one daughter, Tracy Spencer of Keansburg, N.J.; two sons, David Spencer of Keansburg, N.J., and Richard Spencer of Keansburg, N.J.; four sisters, Leah Simms of Hico, Rosa Stout of Baltimore, Md., Margaret Wingo of Pinnacle, N.C., and Frances Thompson of Coleman Falls, Va.; and three grandchildren.

There will be no visitation or funeral service. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Fairview cemetery of Nettie. Burial will follow in the cemetery.

Wilburn 'Chief' Wright

Wilburn L. "Chief" Wright, 73, of Renick, passed away Saturday, March 4, 2000, at his home.

Services and graveside rites will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Oak Grove cemetery at Hillsboro.

Friends and family may call 7 to 9 p.m. today at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home, Lewisburg.
