Frank R. Lilly

HINTON - Frank R. "Frenchie" Lilly, 67, of Campbell Street, died Monday, May 1, 2000, of an apparent heart attack while on a hunting trip in Hampshire County.

Born July 7, 1932, in Hinton, he was the son of the late Fred A. Lilly and Lula Maddy Lilly.

Mr. Lilly was a former employee of the State of West Virginia and a lifelong resident of Hinton.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954, European Theatre of Operations.

He was a member of the Summers County Volunteer Fire Department, Station No. 13, with 35 years of service.

He was an active member of the Moose Club and former member and officer of the VFW.

Survivors include a sister, Betty Lou Whitlock and her husband, Lloyd, of Hinton; a nephew, Dr. Thomas M. Whitlock and his wife, Jeannie, of Macedonia, Ohio; and several cousins.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel, Hinton, with Pastor Roy Lee Honaker officiating.

Burial will follow in Mount Zion cemetery, near Hinton.

Friends called 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral parlors.

Pallbearers will be Henry Noel, "Dink" Anderson, Tom Prince, Steve Tassos, Tom Clinebell, Bill Mathews, David Ballard and members of the Summers County Volunteer Fire Department, Station 13.

Dallie H. Meadows

Dallie Harvey Meadows, 102, of Woodlawn Avenue, Beckley, died at 6:03 p.m. Monday, May 1, 2000.

Born March 18, 1898, in Egeria, she was the daughter of the late Clowney Lee Harvey and Leona Walker Harvey.

Mrs. Meadows was a homemaker and a former teacher in Raleigh County in the earlier years of her life.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, Beckley, and Ann Rose Fidelis Sunday school class.

She was a lifelong resident of Raleigh County. Her family spans three centuries in the area.

She was preceded in death by her husband, E. Carl Meadows; a son, E. Carl Meadows Jr.; two daughters, Sibyl Meadows Akers and Pauline Meadows Bouldin; a grandson, David Farley Bouldin II; three brothers; and six sisters.

Survivors include two daughters, Lucille Robinson of Atlanta and Elizabeth Ann Wood and her husband, Dennis, of Cary, N.C.; two sisters, Bertha Conner of Tallahassee, Fla., and Gemma King of Dublin, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, Beckley, with Dr. David Carrico officiating.

Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.

Friends may call one hour before services Friday at the funeral home.

Della Mitchem

Della Ogean Mitchem, 75, died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, following a long illness.

Virginia Moore

Virginia Moore, 73, of Beckley, died Monday, May 1, 2000, in a Beckley hospital following a short illness.

Argil A. Morgan

RONCEVERTE - Argil Andrews Morgan, 61, died Tuesday, May 2, 2000.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Morgan cemetery.

Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home, Ronceverte.

Lynn George Nasby

Patricia Lynn George Nasby, 40, of Maryland Avenue, Beckley, died Monday, May 1, 2000, at her home.

Born June 24, 1959, in Beckley, she was the daughter of Lawrence Michael "Larry" George of Beckley and Patricia "Pat" Weeks George of Beckley.

Mrs. Nasby was a lifelong resident of Beckley and a 1976 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School.

She attended Marshall University and was a member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church.

She enjoyed horseback riding and was an avid animal lover.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, George and Adele George; and her maternal grandfather, Russell Weeks.

Other survivors include a son, Casey Robert Nasby of Beckley; a daughter, Courtney Lynn Nasby of Beckley; a sister, Beverly George Mamone and her husband, Tony, of Beckley; a nephew, Michael Anthony Culicerto and his wife, Angela, of Beckley; a niece, Talia Michelle Mamone of Beckley; her maternal grandmother, Jeannette Weeks of Beckley; her stepmother, Carole Warren George of Beckley, and her children, Danny Warren of Beckley, Lynn Warren of Studio City, Calif., and Danette Castillo of Margate, Fla.

She is also survived by the father of her children, Robert Nasby, and his parents, Bob and Edna Nasby, all of Beckley.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at St. Stephens Episcopal Church, 200 Virginia St., Beckley, with the Revs. Bill Bozman and Howard Backus, Dr. David Carrico and Father Michael Tassos officiating.

Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.

Friends may call 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at Melton Mortuary Chapel, Beckley.

Pallbearers will be Tony Cuilcerto, Al Wiggins, Russell Weeks, Tom Weeks, Russell Weeks Jr. and Danny Warren.

Steven L. Rollins

CYCLONE - Steven Lay Rollins, 28, died Monday, May 1, 2000, at Man Appalachian Hospital.

Born Oct. 18, 1971, in Man, he was the son of William M. "Bill" and Fannie Osborne Rollins of Cyclone.

Mr. Rollins was a lifelong resident of Wyoming County, a 1989 graduate of Oceana High School and was employed as a logger.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Willie and Cora Bailey Osborne.

Other survivors include his companion, Marie Coburn of Cyclone; a son, Steven Ryan Rollins of Cyclone; a brother, Kevin Rollins and his wife, Denise, of Hickory, N.C.; a sister, Julie Blankenship and her husband, Jason, of Greensboro, N.C.; his paternal grandparents, John and Ruth Rollins of Kopperston; a nephew, Austin Rollins of Hickory; and a host of uncles, aunts and cousins.

Services will be noon Friday at Bright Prospect Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Jackie Lusk and Brothers Tommy Adkins and Dockie Harvey officiating.

Burial will follow in Brown cemetery, Cyclone.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. today at the church.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Boothe, Brandon Keeney, Ronnie Daniels, Robert Workman, Greg Rollins, Tony Lusk, Rodney Harrison, Michael Harrison, James Coburn and Bobby Riddles.

Mildred A. Snider

Mildred Ann McDaniel Snider, 96, formerly of Beaver Avenue, Beckley, died Friday, April 28, 2000, in a Charlottesville, Va., care center following a long illness.

Born Aug. 8, 1903, in Hinton, she was the daughter of the late Abraham Lindwood and Martha Ellen Rule McDaniel.

Mrs. Snider had been a resident of Beckley since 1945.

She was a 1920 graduate of Huntington High School and attended Marshall University in 1920 and 1921.

While attending Marshall, she was chosen as the "prettiest girl on campus."

Mrs. Snider was a retired secretary and a volunteer for 28 years at the VA Medical Center, and was a member of the Hall of Fame.

She was past president of Southern Cross Chapter 2001 and the United Daughters of the Confederacy, where she received the second highest award, the "Jefferson Davis Award." She was past member of Winolia Chapter No. 59, Order of the Eastern Star, Mount Hope, a member of the YMCA and vice president of the Beckley Woman's Club and chairman of its Fine Arts Department.

Mrs. Snider was a member of First Baptist Church, Beckley, and was past president of the American Baptist Women and of the Fidelis Class of the church.

She was past president of the Raleigh Association of American Baptist Women and past president of Church Women United of Beckley.

Mrs. Snider was also a former teacher of the Fidelis Class and circle leader.

She was preceded in death by her husband whom she married Nov. 15, 1922, Earl O. Snider; a daughter, Martha ELlen Teolis; and a son, Earl O. Snider Jr.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty Ann Viar and her husband, Walter, of Ruckersville and Arlington, Va.; a son, Dr. James McDaniel Snider and his wife, Linda, of Cumberland, Md.; four grandchildren, James McDaniel Snider II, Sabrina Ann Teolis, Joseph L. Emery and Carey Todd Emery; a great-grandson, Joshua C. Emery; a nephew, Clayx McDaniel and his wife, Faye, of Charleston; and two nieces, Ann Barton and her husband, Tim, of Clifton Forge, Va., and Margaret Sheldon and her husband, Robert, of Yakima, Wash.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Melton Mortuary Chapel, Beckley, with Dr. David Carrico officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be James McDaniel Snider II, Joseph L. Emery, Leon Neal, Roy Bazzarre, D.J. Godbey, E.E. Bibb III and Henry Kale.

Chester E. Surbaugh

MEADOW BRIDGE - Chester Everett Surbaugh, 82, died Monday, May 1, 2000, at his residence following a long illness.

Born Dec. 25, 1917, at Meadow Creek, he was the son of the late John Ezra Surbaugh and Mary Elizabeth Bennett Surbaugh.

Mr. Surbaugh was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Berry Surbaugh; a daughter, Sonula Lilly; two sons, Charles and Lloyd Surbaugh; his real father, Elmer Smith; a sister, Mabel Surbaugh Hopkins; and a brother, Ralph Surbaugh.

Survivors include his wife of 10 years, Thelma Plumley Goins Surbaugh; two daughters, Mary Alice Grimmett and her husbad, Keith, of Pipestem and Carol Sue Flannery, of Shady Spring; four stepsons, Elmeray Goins of Pemberton, Delmer Lee Goins and his wife, Christine, of Stanaford, Dan...
