PINEVILLE - Michael J. Cooper, 48, died Sunday, May 7, 2000, after an auto accident.
Born July 20, 1951, in Kopperston, he was the son of Wanda J. Cooper of Pineville and the late Estill C. Cooper.
Mr. Cooper was a graduate of Pineville High School, and he attended West Virginia University and The College of West Virginia.
He was a member of Rockcastle Baptist Church.
Mr. Cooper was disabled from U.S. Steel Mines and was president of Pineville Little League for 14 years, during which time he made possible the two beautiful baseball fields he called his "Field of Dreams."
He was very loving of his Little League, parents, players and helpers.
Mr. Cooper also served on many committees and was a member of the Bow Hunters Association and the NRA.
He loved to be with his kids giving all his support in whatever they might participate in. He was a vast lover of the outdoors. Mike owned an archery shop for more than 20 years.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Lee Cooper.
Other survivors include his wife, Cindy Cooper; two sons, Michael "Zac" Cooper of Beckley and Jon Caleb Cooper at home; a daughter, Katie Jo Cooper at home; four sisters, Debra Lackey and her husband, Mike, of Pineville, Katherine Brown of Grandview, Loveda McGuire of Pineville and Laura Henry of St. Louis; a brother, Merrill T. Cooper of Front Royal, Va.; eight nieces; and three nephews.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Calfee Funeral Service, Pineville, with the Rev. Doc Adkins officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.

Pallbearers will be Tony Flaim, Dan Shadd, Merrill Cooper, Patrick Graham, Mike Green, Greg Lyons, Sampy Bailey Jr. and Larry Black.

BOWIE, Md. - Elizabeth Craft, 78, formerly of Sophia, died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at a Maryland care facility following a short illness.
Born Oct. 5, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Hazel Bolen.
Mrs. Craft was a member of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Craft; and three brothers, George, Jack and James Bolen.
Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Burge of Beckley and Donna Moore and her husband, Robert, of Live Oak, Fla.; two sons, Richard Esposito and his wife, Anne, of Ashton, Md., and Tom Meadows and his wife, Patricia, of Beltsville, Md.; two sisters, Regina Moody and her husband, Charleston, of Sophia and Joan Arms and her husband, Ronald, of Melbourne, Fla.; a brother, Ted Crouch and his wife, Maxine, of Parkersburg; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. Buzz Keller officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
Friends may call one hour before services Friday at the funeral home.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

She was the daughter of Thomas Scott of Greenville, S.C., and Helen Blake Scott of Rainelle.

Dessie Ewing, 92, of Clear Creek, died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness.
Born Dec. 27, 1907, at Ewing Creek, he was the son of the late Henry and Abigail Maynor Ewing.
Mr. Ewing was a retired coal miner from Milburn Coal Co. and was a member of the UMWA.
Mr. Ewing was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Survivors include his wife, Nellie Irene Toney Ewing; two daughters, Betty Williams and her husband, Forrest, and Alice Lawlor, all of Beckley; and a granddaughter, Teresa Lawlor of Charleston.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope, with the Rev. Jerry Lawrence officiating. Burial will follow in Ewing Creek cemetery, Ewing Creek.

MULLENS - Harrison Robert Goad Sr., 73, died at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2000, in the VA Medical Center, Richmond, Va., following an apparent heart attack.
Born Feb. 2, 1926, in Mullens, he was the son of the late Ellis Robert and Nancy Whitt Goad.
Mr. Goad was retired from the U.S. Army with 221Ž2 years of service during World War II and the Korean and Vietnam conflicts.
He was a member of Herndon Freewill Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Jesse Goad.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 49 years, Margaret Louise Ellison Goad; two sons, Harrison Robert Goad Jr. and his wife, Deborah, of Mullens and Roger Ellis Goad and his wife, Pamela, of Fayetteville, N.C.; two brothers, Omer Goad and his wife, Lena, of Clay and Lawrence Goad and his wife, Betty, of Mullens; a sister, Winnie Linkous of Mullens; three grandchildren, Nicole Rene Goad, Joshua Ellis Goad and Toni Lynn Cuevas; and two great-grandchildren, Justin Antonio Cuevas and Tianna LaTaine Cuevas.
