Violet B. Daniels

Mrs. Violet Brooks Daniels, 96, of Lester, died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000 in a local hospital of natural causes.

Born Oct. 11, 1904 in Wyoming County, she was the daughter of the late Thurman and Maud McGraw Brooks.

Mrs. Daniels was the former owner of Lester Grocery. She was the last surviving charter member of the Akers Baptist Church at Maple Meadow, a former member of the Trap Hill Womans Club, Rebekah Lodge, and a charter member of the Lester Development Corporation. She was a former committee woman for the Democratic party and taught school in Raleigh and Summers counties. She served two terms as town recorder for Lester.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Winfred Daniels; a granddaughter, Donna Daniels; two sons-in-law, S.W. Moye and Bill Underwood, and by seven brothers and a sister.

Survivors include a son, Nathan G. Daniels and his wife Ada in Daniels; three daughters, Joan Sweeney and her husband Lloyd of Beckley, Hope Underwood of Shady Spring, and Maud Moye of Beckley; a sister, Gail Kair of Aurora, CO; six grandchildren, Coleen Redden of Beaver, Michael Sweeney of Beaver, Dennis Daniels of Clarksville, TN, Daniel Moye of Beckley, Vicky Hensley of Charleston, and Nathan Daniels II of Shady Spring; eight great-grandchildren; special caregivers, Linda Sizemore and Rachel Heinz, and a special friend, Yvonne Statzer.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21 in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ardeth Bailey officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Michael Sweeney, Daniels Moye, Edward Hensley, Jerry Redden, Nathan Daniels II, Dennis Daniels, Vernon Blankenship and Kendall Terry.

Lola D. Foti

Lola Dominici Foti, 89, of North Oakwood, died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000 at home following a long illness.

Born July 19, 1911 in Landgraff, she was the daughter of the late Felice and Lillian Fortuna Dominici.

Lola spent her childhood at Maitland in McDowell County. She settled in Raleigh County in 1941. She has been a resident of North Oakwood for the past 40 years. She was a devoted member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church where she was a member of the Ladies of St. Francis and the Catholic Daughters. She enjoyed baking for the church bazaar.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Foti; three brothers, John, Frank, and Ermindo Dominici, and three sisters, Ora DeMarco, Clementine Nevi and Mary McKinney.

Survivors include a daughter, Katherine Foti of Beckley; two sons, Tom Foti and his wife Lillian of Beckley, and Victor Foti and his wife Sue of Roanoke, Va.; four grandchildren, Toni Marie Fery, Vickie Sue Guilliams, Elizabeth Anne Groves, and Victor F. Foti, Jr.; six great-grandchildren, Meredith Marie Fery, Emily Elizabeth Fery, Danielle Victoria Fery, Sarah Guilliams, Madison Victoria Foti, and William Anthony Guilliams, and three sisters, Clara Harris and Lena English, both of Richmond, Va., and Della Sumner of Beckley.

The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at noon Tuesday, Nov. 21, at St. Francis de Sales Church with Rev. Samuel Sacus as celebrant. The Rite of Committal will follow in the Mt. Calvary cemetery at Sunset Memorial Park.

Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. today at Melton Mortuary. At 8:30 p.m., there will be a Vigil Prayer Service.

Pallbearers will be members of St. Francis de Sales Church.

Donations of sympathy may be made to the Ladies of St. Francis.

Richard L. Gilbert

OAK HILL - Richard Lynn Gilbert, 53, died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000 at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill following a long illness.

Born Feb. 9, 1947 in Charleston, he was the son of Margaret Kathryn Johnson Crisp of Oak Hill.

Mr. Gilbert was a disabled carpenter, a member of the Multiple Sclerosis Society, and attended Harvey United Methodist Church.

In addition to his mother, survivors include one daughter, Nicole Roshon and husband Greg of Goshen, Ohio; one son, Greg Gilbert of Milford, Ohio; one grandson, Noah Roshon of Goshen, Ohio; one granddaughter, Samantha Roshon of Goshen, Ohio, and one brother, David Gilbert, of Marietta, Ga.

Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, in the Tyree Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park.

Friends may call one hour prior to services Tuesday at the funeral home.

Patricia L. Halstead

DANESE - Patricia Lynn Jarrett Halstead, 35, died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000 at Summersville Memorial Hospital after a short illness.

Born Dec. 9, 1964 in Montgomery, she was the daughter of Tommy and Carolyn Danbery Jarrett of Kimberly, West Virginia.

Mrs. Halstead was a member of the Rainelle Congregation of Jehovah's Witness.

Survivors include her husband, Ezra Lee Halstead, Jr.; daughters Lisa Marie Jarrett Halstead of Danese, Cristina Faye Halstead of Kelouna, British Columbia, and Rebecca Lee Halstead of Calgary, Alberta; parents Tommy and Carolyn Jarrett of Kimberly; sister Tiffany Lynn Jarrett of Kimberly, and granddaughter Mercedes Jada-Marie Halstead Kormish of Calgary, Alberta.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, at Highlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel in Oak Hill with James Copland officiating. Burial will follow in Highlawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Friends may call one hour prior to services Tuesday at the chapel.

A memorial service will also be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, at the Rainelle Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness.

Ruth Jarrell

Mrs. Ruth Jarrell, 78, of Beckley died Saturday Nov. 18, 2000 in a Potomac Falls, Va. care center following a long illness.

Arrangements are incomplete at Melton Mortuary, Beckley.

Alice S. Jones

Alice Stoots Jones, 71, of Dry Hill Road, formerly of Old Eccles Road, died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000 in a Beckley hospital following a short illness.

Lessie J. Kershner

CAMDEN-ON-GAULEY - Lessie June Hart Kershner, 75, formerly of McDowell County, died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000 at Webster Memorial Hospital in Webster Springs following a long illness.

Ms. Kershner was born June 3, 1925 in Davy. She was a homemaker, attended the Church of God, and had lived in Camden-on-Gauley for 22 years.

Survivors include four sons, Daniel Hart of Fremont, Ohio, Timothy Hart of South Gate, MI, William Hart of Cool Ridge, and Lawrence Hart of Camden-on-Gauley; two brothers, Don Chadwell of Grapevine and John Chadwell of Beaver; two sisters, Betty Hatfield of Sunbury, Ohio, and Margie Hicks of Abney; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21 at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home, 155 McGraw Webster Springs, with Rev. Cofer Cochran officiating. Burial will be at Miller cemetery in Webster Springs.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Loretta M. Patterson

MEADOW BRIDGE - Loretta Margaret Patterson, 63, passed away Friday, Nov. 17, 2000 at her home following a short illness.

Born April 11, 1937 in Green Sulphur, she was the daughter of the late Melvin J. Martin and the daughter of Margaret Wyant Martin Jones of Green Sulphur.

Mrs. Patterson was a homemaker, a retired office aide at Meadow Bridge Elementary School, a member of the Laurel Branch Freewill Baptist Church in Meadow Bridge, and a member of the Meadow Bridge Community Choir.

She was preceded in death by two infant children, Roberta Lynn and Gregory Lloyd; her mother- and father-in-law, Summers and Beulah Patterson, and her step-father, Roy Jones.

Survivors include her husband, Robert L. Patterson; a daughter, Bonita Perkins and husband Gary of Ashland, Ky.; five brothers, Melvin Martin, Jr. of Caldwell, Ohio, Donald "Buck" Martin of Rupert, Calvin C. Martin and wife Frances of Jacksonville, Fla., Larry M. Martin and wife Suzanna of Beckley, and Lloyd R. Martin and wife Becky of Richmond, Va.

Mrs. Patterson was expecting her first grandchild, Joe Douglas Perkins, in April.

She will be sadly missed by numerous family and friends.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, at Smathers Funeral Chapel in Rainelle with Pastor Hobert Mills and Rev. Steve Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the Patton Memorial cemetery at Meadow Bridge, with the releasing of the White Flights.

Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral chapel.

Ruby Vance

BAILEYSVILLE - Ruby Vance, 73, died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000 in a Wyoming County long-term care facility following a long illness.

Arrangements are incomplete at Calfee Funeral Service, Pineville.

Mark A. Clifford

Mark Allen Clifford, 36, of Piney View, died Wednesday, Nov., 29, 2000, following a sudden illness.

Born Sept. 26, 1964, inBeckley, he was the son of Dorothy Clifford of Piney View and the late Orville Clifford.

Mr. Clifford was a cook for Hardees and a graduate of Mount Hope High School.

He also served in the U.S. Air Force.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Quincy and Viola Treadway; his paternal grandfather, Luther Clifford; and a brother, Adam Wayne Clifford.

Other survivors include a brother, Daniel Clifford of Beckley; three sisters, Patricia Ramsey of Grayson County, Va., Denise Clifford of MacArthur, and Donna Yurkovich of Duck; paternal grandmother, Grace Clifford of Piney View; 10 nieces and nephews; and one great-niece.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Edward Garten officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Arrangements by Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley.
