Virginia A. VanDuyne
SAVANNAH, Ga. - Virginia Anderson VanDuyne, 72, formerly of Smoot, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Savannah, following a short illness.
Born Oct. 8, 1928, in Smoot, she was the daughter of the late William Bryan and Fannie Will Anderson.
Mrs. VanDuyne received her B.S. from West Virginia Wesleyan College, her M.A. from Montclair State College in New Jersey and her doctorate of education from Seton Hall University in New Jersey. She was a lab technician at Duke University in North Carolina.
Survivors include her husband, Leonard VanDuyne of Hilton Head, S.C.; two sons, Douglas VanDuyne of Greenville, S.C., and Scott VanDuyne and his wife, Marianne, of Long Island, N.Y.; two sisters, Billie Ann Sanford and her husband, Raleigh, of Meadow Bluff and Sally Christine Gentry of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; and four grandchildren, Brad, Samantha, Scott and Ryan VanDuyne.
Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Soule Chapel United Methodist Church, Meadow Bluff, with the Rev. Jay Hicks officiating. Burial will follow at Wallace Memorial cemetery, Clintonville.
Friends may call today and Sunday at the home of Raleigh and Billie Ann Sanford on Farmdale Road at Meadow Bluff.

CRAIGSVILLE - Goldie Walkup, 84, passed away Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, in Summersville Memorial Hospital following a long illness.
Born Jan. 1, 1916, in Nicholas County, she was the daughter of the late Wesley and Pearl Brown.
Mrs. Walkup was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, Ramsey, and a homemaker.
Survivors include two granddaughters, Debbie Woody of Cottle and Kay Taylor Brown of Summersville; a grandson, Darrell Nutter Jr. of Ramsey; and seven great-grandchildren.
Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Liberty Baptist Church, Ramsey, with the Rev. Danny Legg officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Ray Dee Campbell
RAINELLE - Ray Dee Campbell, 69, passed away Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at home following a short illness.
Born Jan. 22, 1931, in Lawn, he was the son of the late Orinda Lane Osborne and the late Lawrence Campbell.
Mr. Campbell was retired from Flowers Baking Co. where he worked as a distributor. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Lance Corporal during the Korean Conflict. He was a Christian and attended the Rainelle First Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jason Brett Sammons.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Lucretia "Crete" Burdette Campbell; three daughters, Lucretia Ann Sammons and her husband Drexel, of Beckley, Donna Rae Manning and her husband Brian of Fayetteville, N.C., and Marsha Dea Burke and her husband Paul of Rainelle; three grandchildren, Amanda Nicole Sammons, Sarah Beth Sammons, and Jacob Paul Burke; one sister, Remona Snedegar of Plano, Texas and one brother, Frank Campbell of Columbus, Ohio.
Service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in Rainelle with the Revs. Dana Gatewood and Keith Shumaker officiating. Burial will follow at Wallace Memorial cemetery, Clintonville.

Lloyd A. Carter
RONCEVERTE - Mr. Lloyd A. Carter, 62, passed away Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at his home following a long illness.
Born June 6, 1938, in Fort Spring, he was the son of the late William Harvey Jr. and Mary Arretta Highlander Carter.
Mr. Carter was a lifelong resident of Greenbrier County, a Vietnam veteran, member of the Fort Spring Missionary Baptist Church, member of the Shryock Lodge No. 47 A.F. & A.M. Ronceverte and was retired from the West Virginia Department of Highways, Lewisburg.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Mae Bishop, and three brothers, James W. Carter, Charles Cleatis Carter, and Harold B. Carter.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Bennett Carter of Ronceverte; three daughters, Penny Dolan and husband Eddie of Grottes, Va., Paula Hudson and husband Roger of Charleston, and Shelly Raines and husband G.W. of Ronceverte; one son, Michael Thompson and wife Lois of Alderson; one godson, Brandon Brooks of Fairlea; four sisters, Margie Fulcher of Fort Spring, Dreama Satterwhite of Ronceverte, Joan Massie and Patty Rothe, both of Lewisburg; four brothers, Roy Carter and Richard Carter, both of Lewisburg, Floyd Carter of Ronceverte, and Mike Carter of Fort Spring; and 11 grandchildren, Carter Raines, Beth and Katie Thompson, Nikki Carter, Courtney Brown, Frankie Melara, Adam and Megan Dolan, Jesse Hudson, Jason Hudson, and Roger Lee Hudson.
Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Fort Spring Missionary Baptist Church, Fort Spring, with the Rev. Ronald L. Cobb officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Vernon cemetery, Fort Spring.

Dennis R. Davis
Dennis Ralph Davis, 57, of Grandview, went to be with the Lord Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at his home following a long illness.
Born July 21, 1943, in Beckley, he was the son of Ralph Davis of Alderson and the late Maxine Barr Davis.
Mr. Davis was chief engineer for Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital for 21 years. He attended Trinity Baptist Church in Shady Spring and was an avid deep sea fisherman.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1964 and served during the Cuban Missile Crisis aboard the U.S.S. Murray.
Survivors include his wife, Belinda "Pixie" Davis of Grandview; a daughter, Michelle Davis of Olympia, Wash.; a son, Chip Booth and wife Heather of Grandview; a brother, Richard Mark Davis of Titusville, Fla.; two sisters, Rita Jean Taylor of Beckley and Vickie Newman Davis of Salem, Va.; a granddaughter, Sophie Booth; and a host of aunts, uncles, their families and many friends.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Baptist Church, Route 3, Shady Spring.
A gathering of friends and family will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the church. Please come as you are and share your memories.

WHITESVILLE - Georgia Mae Dickens, 78, went to be with her Lord Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at the home of her daughter, Wanda Beller of Colcord, after a short illness.
Born March 18, 1922, in Blue Pennant, she was a daughter of the late Abbey and Ida Bearfield Pettry.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Harrison Reed Dickens and Delmar "Spimp" Dickens; and two brothers, Dallas and Callis "Jack" Pettry.
Besides Wanda Beller and husband Steve, Mrs. Dickens is survived by seven other daughters, Caroline Boulet and husband Rejean, and Georgia Kay Thomas and husband Hershel, all of Seth, and Sandy Cunningham and husband Mike, Joyce Thompson and husband Danny, Sugar Painter and husband Walter, Lou Collins and husband Howard, and Barbara Herron and husband Kerry, all of Dorothy; three sons, Dallas Pettry and wife Joyce of Dry Creek, Willis Dickens of Charleston, and John Dickens of Whitesville; sister Geneva "Sissy" Pettry and brother Carlos Pettry and wife Aleda, all of Dry Creek; 27 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
