CANTON, Ohio - Burl R. Maynard, 81, formerly of Helen, died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001, in a Canton hospital following a short illness.
Born Dec. 17, 1919, at East Gulf, he was the son of the late A.P. and Geneva Maynard.
Mr. Maynard was a World War II Army veteran and was retired from Macomber's Inc. and SMHA.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Jean and Hazel; and four brothers, Hayes, Harry, Charles and Harlow "Junior."
Survivors include his wife, Faye Maynard; a son, Burl "Randy" Maynard Jr. of Canton; a brother, Evan Maynard of Beltsville, Md.; and a nephew, Charles Hankla Jr. of Canton.
Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Calfee Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. Vondie L. Cook II officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Dennis E. O'Neal
CHUCKEY, Tenn. - Dennis Eugene O'Neal, 53, passed away Monday, Feb. 5, 2001, following heart surgery at Vanderbilt University Hospital, Nashville, Tenn.
Mr. O'Neal was retired from Yellow Freight Co. after 12 years of service. He was a member of the Teamsters, liked to play billiards and golf, enjoyed football and most recently was pursuing an interest in computers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dennis and Georgia O'Neal; and a brother-in-law, Dennis Terry.
Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Jeannie O'Neal; a daughter, Kristen O'Neal, a senior at Chuckey Doak High School, and dear friend and furture son-in-law, John Kupski; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Hope Garretson of Beckley, Patsy Terry of Oak Hill and Willa Teresa and James Belcher of Ghent; special nieces and nephews, Linda Riffe, Lisa Craddock, Lindsay Lilly, Melissa Petrey and Denise Wood, all of West Virginia, Dr. Dennis Terry of Philadelphia and James Belcher II of West Virginia; and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Loretta and Dr. Jay Weisberg of Wilmington, Del.
Service will be 7 p.m. Friday at Doughty-Stevens Chapel, 1125 Tusculum Blvd., Greenville, Tenn.,

Mae Sheets
Mae Sheets, 72, of Sandlick, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001, at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, following a long illness.
Born Feb. 21, 1928, at Sundial, she was the daughter of the late Jess Bearfield and Lucinda Pettry.
Mrs. Sheets was a homemaker and attended Arnett Assembly of God.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Orther Sheets; a grandson, Joseph E. Chambers Jr.; and seven newborn children.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Gillispie and her husband, Johnny, of High Point, N.C., and Shirley Chambers and her husband, Joseph, of Sandlick; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Jack Bearfield and his wife, Rosetta, of Cleveland; and two sisters, Joan Driscoll of Salem, Mass., and Faye Bearfield of Cleveland.
Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Arnett Assembly of God Church with Steve Tincher of Oak Hill and the Rev. George Hendrick of Arnett officiating. Burial will follow in McGinnis cemetery, Sandlick.

Grandsons Johnny W. Gillispie, Terry Gillispie, Mark Davis, Lewis Lott and Tony Carmichael and great-grandson Justin Parrish will serve as pallbearers.

Ann Parkulo Stephens
Ann Parkulo Stephens, 84, of Beckley, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001, in a Rock Hill, S.C., hospital following a short illness.
Born Sept. 17, 1916, in Newark, N.J., she was the daughter of the late George and Mary Banko Parkulo.
Mrs. Stephens last worked for Kmart in the cafeteria, was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Beckley, and had been a resident of Raleigh County the past 60 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Stephens; a daughter, Mary Ann Stephens; two sisters, Catherine Spinelli and Tessie Parkulo; and a brother, John Parkulo.
Survivors include four sons, James Stephens and his wife, Patty, of New Hartford, N.Y., Robert Stephens and his wife, Albina, of Utica, N.Y., Charles Stephens of Beckley and Harry Stephens and his wife, Dorothy, of Whitesboro, N.Y.; two daughters, Sandra Marine and her husband, Jim, of Shrewsbury, Mass., and Joan Zayas and her husband, Rene, of Rock Hill; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral liturgy will be 2 p.m. Friday at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Beckley, with the Rev. Perry Malacaman officiating. Rite of committal will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.
Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at Calfee Funeral Home, Beckley, where a scriptural prayer service will be held at 8 p.m.

Leroy Walker
BRENTON - Leroy Walker, 79, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001, in a Charleston hospital following a short illness.
Born Aug. 12, 1921, in Warrencliff, Va., he was the son of Vida Walker Buchannon of Pineville and the late Elbert Walker.
Mr. Walker was a World War II veteran, a retired coal miner, having last worked for 3C Coal Co., vice president of the Brenton Fire Department and of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Bertha Walker, on Dec. 11, 2000; a son, Roy Walker; a brother, Howard Walker; and a sister, Bessie Green.
Survivors include two daughters, Sheila Wallace and her husband, Oliver, of Brenton and Bertha Ernestine Bailey and her husband, Hobert, of Princeton; three sisters, Geneva Altizer and her husband, Roscoe of Pineville, Edna Barnett of Fanrock and Lessie Cook and her husband, Tom, of Mexico, Ind.; three brothers, Jack Walker and his wife, Margaret, of Ohio, Arlene Walker and his wife, Juanita, of Stanley, Va., and Marvin Walker and his wife, Faye, of Pineville; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Calfee Funeral Service Chapel, Pineville, with the Rev. Richie Walker officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.
