WYTHEVILLE, Va. — Frank Earle Evans, 87, of Wytheville, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2007.
He was the son of the late Clare and Alice Reilly Ev-ans.
He was a retired United States Army World War II veteran and was retired director of Parks and Recreation for City of Raleigh, N.C. He was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church and is survived by his wife, Betty Skewes Evans; daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Jack Kolb of Raleigh; son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Janis Evans of Far Hills, N.J.; sister, Mary Alice Reilly of Manchester, N.J.; stepson, William G. Skewes; grandchildren and spouses, Elizabeth and Cal Cunningham, Amanda Kolb, Andrew Kolb, Natalie and Jason Hatch, and Dane Evans and Carly Evans; great-grandchildren, Caroline Cunningham, Will Cunningham and Madyson Hatch; stepgrandchildren, Leah, Elizabeth and Laura Skewes; and special friend, Courtney Harrell.
Service will be held 2 p.m. Monday at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Wytheville, conducted by the Rev. Karen Howard and the Rev. Harvey Atkinson.
Visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John’s Episcopal Church.

Thomas William Evans, 96, of 215 Westmoreland St., Beckley, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007.

Katharine Ann Haga
Katharine Ann Haga, 84, of Prosperity, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007, in a Charles-ton hospital.
Born Aug. 16, 1922, in Tyrone, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Raymond A. and Katharine Kohn Hagerman.
Mrs. Haga was a retired registered nurse, having worked at Raleigh General Hospital, and was a member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Beckley.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde C. Haga; a daughter, Sandra Haga; a son, Jim R. Haga; and four sisters, Helen Crowell, Rae Foust, Rosemary Rollason and Doris Matevich.
Mrs. Haga had been a resident of Raleigh County since 1949.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda Midkiff and her husband, Tommy, of Prosperity; four grandchildren, Lori Midkiff, Julie Midkiff, James C. Haga and Barbie Little and husband, Mark; six great-grandchildren, Colton Haga, Cheyenne Haga, Harley Haga, Katie Little, Maggie Little and Drew Little; daughter-in-law, Jane Haga; and Michelle Haga of Prosperity.
Service will be 2 p.m. today at St. Stephens Episcopal Church, Beckley, with the Rev. Eric Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.
Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Wanda Lillian Lynch Hatfield
Wanda Lillian Lynch Hatfield, 80, of Beckley, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007, at Raleigh General Hospital.
Born Nov. 30, 1926, at Pemberton, she was the daughter of the late Earl Joseph and Ercie Mable Akers Lynch.
Mrs. Hatfield was a devoted registered nurse, working over 20 years in obstetrics at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital, and was a member of Maxwell Hill Baptist Church of Beckley.
Mrs. Hatfield was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Elwood Hatfield; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Lynch; a sister, Mrs. Ruth Comer; and two brothers-in-law, Thomas Comer and Dexter Bowles.
She was the devoted mother to three, Patricia Hatfield Farley of Atlanta, Ga., Emily Hierholzer of Richmond, Va., and Daniel Hatfield of Beckley.
Mrs. Hatfield was the eldest of eight brothers and sisters, Earl J. Lynch Jr., and his wife, Carol, of Beckley, Nelma Bowles of Beckley, Jack Lynch and his wife, Violet, of Winchester, Va., Nancy DeHart and husband, Charles, of Alderson, Thomas Lynch and his wife, Shirley, of Orange, Va., and Lois Fitzwater and her husband, Bill, of Hudson, Ohio.
She was the loving grandmother of six grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren and the loving aunt to 16 nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Hatfield loved gardening, sewing and collecting antiques.
Wanda was a wonderful example of how a life should be led; she will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

James Eric Lilly Sr.
James Eric Lilly Sr., 78, of Ghent, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007, at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley following a short illness.
Born at Flat Top on June 29, 1928, he was the son of the late James W. Lilly and Lessie P. Lilly.
Mr. Lilly was a disabled coal miner and factory worker. He was an evangelist. He was a member of Rhodell Gospel Tabernacle.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ina Opal Watkins Lilly; a son, Henry Earl Lilly; a daughter, Phyllis Treadway; and a brother, Neville Lilly.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane Bailey Lilly; sons, Samuel E. Lilly Sr. of Coal City and James E. Lilly Jr. at home; daughters, Sally Duncan and husband, Neil, of Hinesville, Ga., Mary Allen and companion, Samuel Adkins, of Coal City and Viola Lilly at home; brothers, Denzil Lilly and wife, Glenna, of Hawkinsville, Ga., and Berndel Lilly and wife, Jackie, of Flat Top; sisters, Zelda Bone of Shady Spring, Eunice MacDonald and husband, Charles “Mac,” of Lorain, Ohio, Iris Cooper and husband, Lawrence, of Beckley and Serilla Dunn of Medina, Ohio; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, Shady Spring Chapel, with the Rev. Charlie Bolen officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

THAYER — Marvin Lee Lyons, 56, of Thayer, passed away Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007, at his residence.
Born May 31, 1950, at Oak Hill, he was the son of the late Naomi L. Calvert Stickler.
Survivors include three brothers, Daniel Ray Lyons of Thayer, Terry Calvert of Prosperity and David Stickler of Thayer; two sisters, Donna Corley of Hilltop and Brenda Adkins of Meadow Bridge; a half brother, Arnold Stickler of Pineville; and a half sister, Madeline Gill of Backus Mountain.
Graveside rites will be 2 p.m. Monday at High Lawn Memorial Gardens, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Steve Tincher officiating. Burial will follow.

Sadie Marschillo Sizemore
MCGRAWS — Sadie Marschillo Sizemore, 82, of McGraws, passed away Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007, following a sudden illness at the home of her son, Arnold Sizemore.
Born Dec. 18, 1924, at Maben, she was the daughter of the late Veto and Rose Milam Marschillo.
Mrs. Sizemore was of the Protestant faith. She enjoyed being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Sizemore; a son, Billy Jack Sizemore; grandson, B.J. Sizemore; six brothers, Dillard, Tony, Dale, Raymond, Hayes and Marion; and five sisters, Becky, Pansy, Nancy, Hulda and Mary.
Survivors include three sons, Arnold Sizemore and his wife, Phyllis, of Fairdale, Denver Sizemore and his wife, Janie, of Lillington, N.C., and Reggie Sizemore of Pineville; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Calfee Funeral Service Chapel, Pineville, with the Rev. Wallace York officiating. Burial will follow in Clay Family cemetery, Saulsville.
Friends may call noon until time of service Monday.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
