Thomas Michael ‘Tommy’ Bryant

Thomas Michael “Tommy” Bryant, departed this life and entered the pearly gates of heaven to walk on the street of gold with Jesus at the age of 37 years, five months, and 13 days on Saturday, July 15, 2006, at the home of his parents, surrounded by his loving family following a courageous battle with cancer.

Tommy was born Feb. 2, 1969, in Chicago, Ill., he was the son of Johnny Bryant Sr. and Norma Belcher Bryant of Oceana.

Tommy was a 1987 graduate of Oceana High School and the Wyoming County Vo-Tech Center. He was a member of the Craney Missionary Baptist Church, he was a NASCAR fan and a avid fan of No. 20 Tony Stewart. He was employed as a roller operator with Matdan Fastener Corp in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was a wonderful son, brother and dear friend to many and will be dearly missed.

Tommy was preceded in death by an infant brother, Kevin Bruce Bryant; maternal grandparents, Robert Belcher and Elsie Belcher Smith; paternal grandparents, Jarvey and Mary Bryant.

Those left to cherish is beautiful memory are his parents, Johnny and Norma Belcher Bryant of Oceana whom he adored; four brothers and sisters who were his best friends, Johnny (Jay) Bryant Jr. of Cincinnati, Ohio, Larry Bryant, and his wife, Ida of Johnson City, Tenn., Marsha Kennedy and her husband, Steve of Baileysville and Ginger Webb and her husband, Doug of Oceana; two nephews, B.J. Webb of Oceana, and Kevin Bryant of Johnson City, Tenn.; his friends from high school, Jeff Barlow, Cherie Morgan, Marty Beverly, and Lulu Miller; and his many wonderful friends from the Fresenius Dialysis Center in Beckley. A special thank you to Hospice of Southern WV for their wonderful care that was given to Tommy during his illness.

A celebration of Tommy’s life will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Adam Toler Memorial Chapel with Pastor James Walker officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Garden of Memory at Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.

Cousins, nephews and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Services entrusted to Adam Toler Memorial Funeral Home, Oceana.

Virginia Burgess

Virginia Burgess, 88, of Crab Orchard, formerly of Glen Fork, departed this life, Monday, July 17, 2006, at her residence following a long illness.

A celebration of Virginia’s life will be 1 p.m. Thursday, July 20, 2006, at the Adam Toler Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Gene Reid officiating. Family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until time of the service on Thursday.

Services entrusted to Adam Toler Memorial Funeral Home, Oceana.

David ‘Randy’ Caudill

David Randall ‘Randy’ Caudill, formerly of Mineral, Va., currently residing at the home of his sister, Brenda, at 206 Ewart Avenue, Beckley, with his family by his side on Saturday, July 15, 2006, passed after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Randy was born February 10, 1953 at Mullens, he was the son of the late David Junior Caudill and the late Mable Lee Caudill Reid.

Survivors of his immediate family include his sister, Brenda Kincaid and her husband Paul of Ewart Avenue, Beckley, with whom he resided; sister, Rebecca Green and husband Clyde of Old Eccles Road, Beckley; two brothers, Jim Caudill and wife Patsy of Old Eccles Road, Beckley and Bill Caudill of Mooresville, NC; nephews, Mike Kincaid and wife Ruth and their daughter, Kaitlin of Tampa, Fla., Stephen Kincaid and wife Nekol and children, Tasha, Andi, and Justin Paul of Knoxville, Tenn., and Tim Caudill of Hanover, Va.; nieces, Amanda Caudill of Old Eccles Road, Beckley and Angie Burnside and husband Chris of Gastonia, NC; and his beloved pet, Jack T.

Randy made his home between Virginia and West Virginia. He worked through the years as a crane electrician traveling to many locations throughout the surrounding states. His love of the outdoors is where he found his most enjoyable moments when he was on his boat, fishing, and catching the ‘big one’ on Lake Anna in Virginia and Lake Toaho, Fla., as well as out wonderful New River. He was also an avid NASCAR fan. His love of country music found its way to the guitar with many hours of practice and determination he brought music to his fingers. He shared many of these wonderful times with his family and friends.

He was of the Baptist faith, and found his way home to the arms of the Lord with Chaplin Carlyle Bloome and all the wonderful members of the Hospice of Southern West Virginia.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today at Melton Mortuary, 1200 Harper Rd., Beckley, with the Rev. Jason Naff officiating. The family will receive friends today from 1 until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Graveside service and burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.

Pallbearers will be Mike Kincaid, and men of the Beckley Regular Baptist Church.

The family request donations be made to Hospice of Southern WV, 105 S. Eisenhower Dr., Beckley, WV 25801.

Friends may gather after the burial at the home of Brenda and Paul Kincaid on Ewart Avenue.

JUSTICE — Lee Cline, 36, died Friday, July 14, 2006.

Service will be 1 p.m. today at Mounts Funeral Home Chapel, Gilbert.

Mary Emily Colvin

Mary Emily Colvin, 81, of 408 Sheridan Avenue, Beckley, West Virginia, departed this life July 13, 2006, following a long illness.

Born at Affinity, West Virginia on May, 27, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Otho Olders Colvin and Mary Leala Avery Colvin.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Zana Colvin; four brothers, Willie Lee Colvin, Enoch N. Colvin, Jezerell Colvin, Leo Vernon Colvin; and four sisters, Esther Branch, Otho Lee Hamilton, Amanda C. Johnson and Lois Colvin Tynch.

Mary was formerly a long term resident of Raleigh, West Virginia where she was a member of the Faith Chapel A.M.E. Church. She served diligently in numerous capacities and was currently president of the Lethann Mission and the Love Fund. She attended school at Byrd Prillerman High at Amigo, West Virginia.

She began work at an early age and was employed for many years as a nanny and cook for families who became part of her extended family.

“Mae” also leaves to cherish her memory: a daughter, Roi Frances Baldwin, of Forth Worth, TX; one grandson, David Wesley Colvin, Sr., a special granddaughter, Olympia Biggers; three great grandsons, David, Jr., Datron and Davvon, all of Forth Worth, TX; two sisters, Lucille Travis of Harlem Heights, WV, and Vivian Hairston of Raleigh, WV; one brother, Ollie Colvin of Kissimmee, FL; one sister-in-law, Ordeen Colvin of Brooklyn, NY; nieces she helped to raise, Starella Harvey of Anchorage, AK, and Shari Colvin of Clifton, VA; special nieces, Lois “Libby” Heath, and LeVette Brown, nephews she helped to raise, Charles Tynch of Columbus, OH, Robert Colvin of Beckley, WV, Terra Colvin of Jacksonville, AR, Steven Colvin of Detroit, MI, James Hairston of Beckley, WV, William Hairston and Alfred Colvin both of Dayton, OH; and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Homegoing services will be 1 p.m. Friday, July 21, at St. Matthew A.M.E. Church, 103 Mills Avenue, Beckley, with the Revs. Avaurn Staples and Marie Catus officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Beckley.

Friends may call one hour (12 noon) before the services Friday at the church on Friday.

N. Ruby Reynolds Dixon

ST. HELEN, Mich. — N. Ruby Reynolds Dixon, 88, formerly of Minden, died Sunday, July 16, 2006, at Bortz Nursing Home in West Branch, Mich., following a long illness.

Born April 10, 1918, at Concho, WV, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Malcolm and Annie Belle Spradlin Reynolds.

Ruby was a member of the Assembly of God in St. Helen, Mich., and was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Harrison Dixon and a son, Thomas Edward Dixon.

Survivors include three daughters, Ruby Jordan of St. Helen, Mich., Shirley Jordan of Deland, Fla., and Mary Alice Surlas of Lake Milton, Ohio; a son, James Clifton Dixon of Houghton Lake, Mich.; a sister, Lucille McCormick of Lexington, Va.; 23 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Daniel Rice officiating. Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Friends may call 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

James Edward ‘Freck’ Elliott

James Edward “Freck” Elliott, 87, of Beckley, died Sunday, July 16, 2006, at the Heartland of Beckley Nursing Home following a long illness.

Born at Fayetteville, on Nov. 1, 1918, he was the son of the late Howard and Nancy Karnes Elliott.

Mr. Elliott was a retired coal miner from the East Gulf Mines, and was a member of the UMWA. He was a US Air Force veteran, and was a member of the Bible Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Mary Nunn, and Ola Hizer; father and mother-in-law, Grant and Mary Wickline Taylor; nieces and nephews, Donald Nunn, Roger Nunn, Bobby Hizer, Peggy Kelly; brothers-in-law, Ransom Taylor, Jack Taylor, Thomas Taylor and Robert Taylor.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Mary Elizabeth Taylor Elliott; a daughter, Jeanie McComas-Smith of Beckley; a granddaughter, Stephanie McComas of Beckley; a great-grandchild, John Randall McComas; nieces and nephews: Phyllis Brocatto of Baltimore, Md., Sue Travis of Owings Mills, Md., Patty Sandovol of Tonytown, Md., Terry Hizer of Baltimore, Md., Dianne Hizer of Baltimore, Md., Hazel Corvin of Dublin, Va., Betty Cox of Pulaski, Va., Brenda Paris of Selbyville, Del., Marie Scott of Abington, Md., Eileen Schoolcraft of Baltimore, Md., Robert Nunn of Baltimore, Md., and Roaten Nunn of Peru, Ind.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Danese and Bobby Collins of Milford, Del., Shirley Taylor of Yulee, Fla., Virginia and Bob Myers of Cushing, Okla., Simpson Grant Taylor of Mullens, Danny and Anna Taylor of Crab Orchard, Franklin and Patty Taylor of Jacksonville, Fla., Esther Taylor of Green Valley, and Geneva Taylor of Pierpoint.

Services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Bible Baptist Church at MacArthur, with Pastor Wayne Holder and Pastor David Pollock officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the church.

Men of the church will serve as pallbearers.

The family would like to thank Dr. Joseph Golden and staff, Dr. Hasan, and Heartland of Beckley, and UMWA nurse, Debbie Saddler.
