Ernest W. ‘Boots’ Moore

Ernest W. “Boots” Moore, age 80, of Beckley, died Friday, July 14, 2006, at his home following a long illness.

Born at Royal, on March 18, 1926, he was the son of the late Daniel and Elizabeth Jones Moore.

Mr. Moore was a member of the Faith Baptist Church at Prosperity, was a retired coal miner, having worked for the Slab Fork Coal Company, and was a member of the UMWA. He was also a member of the American Legion post No. 32, and a member of the VFW in Troy, N.Y.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Anne McGhee; by brothers, Ray and Charlie Moore; and sisters, Betty Fragile, Ruby Farley, and Elsie Greer.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Dorselene Keaton Moore; two daughters, Lynette Fox and husband Dwayne of Hernando, Fla. and Kayleen Allen and husband Tom of Beckley; one granddaughter, Miranda Lynn Allen; one step grandson, Craig Allen and wife Melanie and their children, Tori and Tyler; three sisters, Evelyn Neigebauer of Michigan, Beaulah Dixon and husband William ‘Chuck’ of Virginia, and Lorine Worrells of Beckley; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley, with Dr. Larry Halsey officiating. Burial will follow at the American Legion cemetery at Beckley.

Friends may call from 6 until 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Paul Massie, Ray Dickens, Hector Sawyers, Craig Allen, Frank Fragile, and Samuel Phipps.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Greater Beckley Christian School, P.O. Box 670, Prosperity, WV 25909. Envelopes will be provided.

Jim Bob Adkins

MADISON, Ohio — Jim Bob Adkins, age 68, formerly of Crow, son of the late Bertha Belle and Frank Adkins, Sr.

Born March 30, 1938, at Crow, W.Va., a daughter of Bertha Bell Meadow and Frank Adkins Sr.

He was employed as a machine operator at General Electric for 30 years, retiring in 1998. He served in the U.S. Army. He enjoyed working on cars and woodworking.

Survivors include his wife Patricia Kralik Adkins, whom he married Oct. 27, 1962, in Cleveland, Ohio; two sons, Gary (Julie) Adkins of Geneva, Ohio, and Steven (Karyn) Adkins of Indianapolis, Ind.; granddaughter, Jasmine; two brothers, Bill of Cleveland, and Roger of Cleveland; two sisters, Bonnie Haley of Crow, and Jean Fussi of Manassas, Va.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Frank Wilson Jr. and James Preston; and four sisters, Garnet Manning, Jennie Neall, Anne Flowers, and Mary Metric.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Church, with the Rev. Sean Donnelly officiating.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at The Behm Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 26 River St., Madison.

Donations of sympathy may be made to the City Mission, 5310 Carnegie Ave., Cleveland, Ohio 44103, or Hospice of the Western Reserve, 5786 Heisley Road, Mentor, Ohio 44060.

The Behm Family Funeral Homes & Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.

Dolly Jewel Kinder

ORGAS — Dolly Jewel Kinder of Orgas went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 13, 2006, at her home after a long illness.

She was born Sept. 25, 1918, a daughter of the late Ben and Belle Lyons Reed.

She was a Christian and attended White Oak Freewill Baptist Church. She was also a devoted mother.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Kinder; a daughter, Linda Kinder; three infant sons, James, Robert, and Walter; two brothers, Lloyd and Marlin Reed; and a sister, Marie Kinder.

She is survived by five daughters, Betty Robinson and husband, David of Satsuma, Fla., Anna Taylor and husband, Henry of Orgas, W.Va., Nancy Rice and husband, John of Gastonia, N.C., Sharon Kinder and Loretta Kinder, both of Charleston; four sons, Roger Kinder of Orgas, Benny Lee Kinder and wife, Cheryl of West Palm Beach, Fla., Larry Kinder and wife, Loretta of Orgas, Jerry Kinder and wife, Judy of Orgas; a brother, Ernie Reed of Ocala, Fla.; 22 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Armstrong Funeral Home, Whitesville, with the Revs. Ronnie Santonio and Rev. David Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Pineview cemetery, Orgas.

Friends may call 6 to p.m. today at the funeral home.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Care.

Betty Lafferty

Betty Lafferty, 65, of Charlotte, N.C., formerly of Pineville, died Saturday at Gastonia, N.C., following a long illness.

Arrangements are incomplete at this time.

Calfee Funeral Service of Pineville is serving the Lafferty family.

Jessie Maxine Lipps

Jessie Maxine Lipps of Daniels departed this life Saturday, May 13th, after a long illness at the age of 81. She was born in Ghent, W.Va., and was the daughter of Charles and Myrtle Meador Griffith. She was of the Baptist faith and worked for many years at Greenbrier Dairy, Town and Country Restaurant and The Raleigh Center.

Mrs. Lipps was preceded in death by her mother and father, her first husband, Merle Meador, and second husband, Fred Lipps; four siblings, Ruth Shannon, Charles (little brother) Griffith, Geraldine Brash and Myrtle Lee Randant.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Charlotte Meador of Crab Orchard, daughter, Sallie Lipps of Winston-Salem, N.C., another daughter, Jessie Bennett of Winston-Salem, N.C. Also surviving are Errol and Mary Sue Lilly of Ghent; two sisters, Annabell Lilly of Shady Spring and Delores Davis of Huntington; four grandchildren, Chuck and Tina Meador of Ft. Worth, Texas, Brian and April Meador of Sophia, Kevin Meador of Crab Orchard and Charles Buck of Pilot Mountain, N.C.; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and Miss Pierre, her cat, her longtime friend and companion.

A special thank you to the Commission on Aging for all the help they have given during Mrs. Lipps’ illness and to Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill for the outstanding care she received.

Family will receive visitors 6 to 8 p.m. today with funeral services being held 1 p.m. on Tuesday at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Chapel in Shady Spring, with Pastor Jack Barbour officiating. Burial will follow in the Tom Lilly cemetery at Ghent.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

After the service family and friends are invited to the First Baptist Church at Shady Spring for a dinner.

Billy M. Martin

RUSSELL SPRINGS, Ky. — Billy M. Martin, 70, formerly of Anawalt, died Saturday, May 13, 2006.

Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home, Princeton. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home, Princeton.

Mark Alexander Morningstar

Mark Alexander Morningstar, age 57, of White Sulphur Springs, WV, passed away Friday, May 12, 2006.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, 2006 in the chapel of Shanklin Funeral Home, White Sulphur Springs. Visitation with the family will be at the funeral home Tuesday evening, May 16, 2006 from 6 to 9 p.m.

Shanklin Funeral Home, White Sulphur Springs, is serving the family.

Stanley Lavene Pierson

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Stanley Lavene Pierson, 90, a native of Thayer, died Saturday, May 13, 2006.

Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 16, at Amity Presbyterian Church, with visitation for one hour prior. Entombment will follow in the Sharon Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Mr. Pierson’s family is being served by the Wilson Chapel of Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service.

Myrtle Carrie Rader

HOMINY FALLS — Myrtle Carrie Rader, 91, passed away Saturday, May 13, 2006, at her home following a long illness.

Born July 9, 1914, at Hominy Falls, she was the daughter of the late William and Anna Boley McCutcheon.

She was a homemaker and attended the Penile Methodist Church at Hominy Falls.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arlie Isaac Rader.

Survivors include four daughters, Virginia Wells Boone of Quinwood, Elma Jane O’Dell of Mt. Nebo, Janice Kimlin of Rainelle, and Mary Lou Rader of Hominy Falls; two sons, Paul and Roger Rader of Hominy Falls; a sister, Blendine Kessler of Summersville; 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Penile United Methodist Church at Hominy Falls with the Revs. Garlin Groves and Troy George officiating. Burial will follow in the Hominy Falls cemetery, Hominy Falls.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at Wallace & Wallace Chapel in Rainelle, and at the church one hour before the services on Tuesday.

Mary Ball Tomczyk

Mary Ball Tomczyk of 120 Meadows Court, Beckley, died at home Friday, May 12, 2006, surrounded by family.

Born in Louisa, Ky., Mary was the daughter of the late Thomas and Dixie Ball.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Tomczyk, a son, Billy, and two brothers, Delmar and Tommy Ball.

She will be missed by family and her many friends.

Survivors include five sons, James and his wife, Pat of Knoxville, Tenn., Erland and his wife, Drema of Stoney Creek, N.C., Barry and family of Wilmington, N.C., David and his wife, Debbie of Beaver, and Thomas of Tallahassee, Fla.; two daughters, Nancy Armstrong and her husband, Butch of Tallahassee, Fla., and Jane Rasmussen of Beckley; a sister, Vedie Ross of Beckley. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews and a niece.

Mary had been an employee of Beckley Manufacturing and Richmond Cleaners.

Services will be 11 a.m. today at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel with the Rev. Allan Copenhaver officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.

Friends may call one hour prior to the services today for visitation.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations be made to Hospice of Southern West Virginia, P.O. Box 1472, Beckley, W.Va. 25802-1472.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

John Walker

John “Jack” Walker, 79, of Stanaford, departed this life on Friday, May 12, 2006, at his home with his family, following a short illness.

Born December 6, 1926 at Mabscott, he was the son of the late H.A. and Nannie Walker.

Mr. Walker was a member of the Church of Christ at Stanaford, where he served as a deacon; he was a retired coal miner of 40 plus years, and a member of the UMWA Local 2387, where he was known as “Pop.”

In addition to his parents, Mr. Walker was preceded in death by his daughter, Che-ryl; his brother, Mac Walker; two sisters, Wanda Sue Fortner and Ruth Hatcher; and his mother and father-in-law, Ethel and Dewey Browning.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 57 years, Phyllis Walker; his daughter, Johnette Walker; sister-in-law, Dorothy Browning; his granddaughter, Melanie Showalter and husband, Jeff of Cool Ridge; two grandsons, Philip Walker and fiancée, Kim, of Piney View and Greg Gustinski and wife, Jennifer, also of Piney View; seven great-grandchildren, John, Danielle, Megan, Michael, Mandy, Chase, and Jake; a sister, Ethel Blevins of Alabama; a close family friend, Carla Lewis; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 16, 2006 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, 5251 Robert C. Byrd Drive, Beckley, with Mr. Walker’s brother-in-law, Kenneth Browning, and nephew, John Bair, officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Philip Walker, John Bragg, J.A. Kirk, Greg Gustinski, Kenneth Browning II, Ryan Browning, and Dereck Meadows will be serving as pallbearers.

Friends may gather with the family from 6 until 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Hospice of Southern West Virginia, especially the Yellow Team, Extend-A-Care, Dr. Cole’s office, Dr. Guadalupi’s office, and our dear friends at Allay Home Care.

Family will be receiving flowers; however, donations of sympathy may be made to Hospice of Southern West Virginia, PO Box 1472, Beckley, WV 25802-1472.

Blue Ridge Funeral Home, 5251 Robert C. Byrd Drive, Beckley, is in charge of the arrangements.
