Gary D. Bragg

Gary D. Bragg, 48, of Bragg, died Saturday, April 8, 2006, at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley following a short illness.

Born in Beckley on Aug. 9, 1957, he was the son of the late Elva C. Bragg and Mary J. Radford Bragg.

Mr. Bragg was a former maintenance employee and had previously made his home in Burlington, N.C., for many years. He was a 1976 graduate of Shady Spring High School.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Cecil and David Wayne Bragg.

Survivors include his wife, Jocelyn Wickline Bragg; a daughter, Chassity Warren and husband, David, of Snow Camp, N.C.; stepchildren, Alisha Wickline of Beckley and Nicholas, Laura and Maria Wickline of Bragg; brothers, Donald Bragg and wife, Sharon, of Bragg, Roger Bragg and wife, Mary, of Rochester, N.Y., Jimmy Bragg and wife, Pam, of Bragg and Carl Bragg of Bragg; sisters, Loretta Henry and husband, Bob, of Rochester, Wanda Williams of Shady Spring, Fonda Meadows and husband, Danny, of Shady Spring and Mary Louise Hall and husband, Steve, of Bragg; two grandchildren, Amanda and Darren of Snow Camp; and a stepgrandchild, Diamond of Beckley.

Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, Beckley, with Rev. Delmas Cox officiating. Burial will follow at Goodson cemetery No. 1, Bragg.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Leonard Davis

Leonard Davis, 46, of 121 Beckwood Drive, Beckley, passed away Friday, April 7, 2006, at Appalachian Regional Hospital, Beckley.

Services entrusted to Ritchie and Johnson Funeral Parlor, Beckley.

Mary Rose Gibson

Mary Rose Gibson, 56, of Shady Spring, passed away Thursday, April 6, 2006.

Born July 16, 1949, in Boone County, she was the daughter of the late Junior and Pauline Bailey Daniels.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Gibson, and a granddaughter, Skylar Gibson.

Those left to cherish her memory include two sons, Bart Gibson and Brian Gibson, both of Shady Spring; three brothers, Roman Daniels and wife, Karen, of Beckley, Roger Daniels and wife, Ethel, of Shady Spring and Eddie Daniels of Shady Spring; grandmother, Zadie Daniels of Glen Daniel; aunt, Brookie Hart of Glen Daniel; and several grandchildren whom Mary will miss greatly.

Service will be 1 p.m. today at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, 5251 Robert C. Byrd Drive, Beckley, with Pastor Richard Harold officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may gather with the family noon until time of service today at the funeral home.

Georgia Belle Hall

OCEANA — Georgia Belle Hall departed this life Thursday, April 6, 2006, at the age of 57 years, 9 months and 5 days at Charleston Area Medical Center, Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

Born March 1, 1949, in Logan County, she was the daughter of Troy and Doro-thy Frye Carter.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Frye Cart-er.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 14 years, Ronald “Ron” Hall; her father, Troy Carter of Gilman Bottom; two daughters, Belinda Whitten and her husband, Derek, of Oceana and Melody Copley of Oceana; a brother, Seaburn Carter and his wife, Sabrina, of Oceana; two sisters, Paula Green and her husband, Ronald, of Man and Crystal Osborne and her husband, Johnny, of Asheboro, N.C.; three grandchildren, Tara Bobbitt, Maegan Whitten and Travis Whitten; and a host of friends.

A celebration of Georgia’s life will be 1 p.m. Monday at Adam Toler Memorial Chapel, Oceana, with the Rev. Benny Blankenship officiating. Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Godby.

Casketbearers will be Jerry Swanson, Roger Graley, Derek Whitten, Robbie Crouch, Ed Harless, Sam Stewart, Keith Walker, Steve Blankenship and Ronnie Greene.

The family will receive friends 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

George Edward Kessinger

LORAIN, Ohio — George E. Kessinger, 84, a Beckley native who lived in Lorain, since the 1950s, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006, in Elyria, Ohio, following a brief illness.

He was the son of the late Clisby Theodore Kessinger and Chloe Alice Dejarnette Kessinger, both of Beckley. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert F. Kessinger, William E. Kessinger and James B. Kessing-er, also of Beckley.

Survivors include his brother, Clisby T. Kessinger of Davis-ville; his sister, June Genevieve Jones of Crab Orchard, his sons, Greg Kess-inger of North Olmstead, Ohio, and Mark Kessinger of Houston, Texas; and his daughter, Sharon Nerad of Rockwell, N.C.

Graveside memorial service will be officiated by VFW Post No. 3110 at 11 a.m. Sunday, April 30, at Calfee Mount Tabor cemetery, Mount Tabor Road. A brunch will follow in the dining room of the Brier Patch Golf Links, also on Mount Tabor Road. His family invites friends of George Edward to join them for this remembrance. Roscoe Lafferty Sr.

Roscoe Lafferty Sr., 96, of Bradley, passed away Thursday, April 6, 2006, in Raleigh General Hospital.

Born March 14, 1910, in Wyoming County, he was the son of the late James and Zetta Allen Lafferty.

Mr. Lafferty was a chief electrician at several area coal mines and was a member of the UMWA.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Sadie Wright and Virginia Daniels.

Survivors include his loving wife of 72 years, Evelyn Bowles Lafferty; nine children, Margaret Campbell of Beckley, Roscoe “Bud” Lafferty Jr. and his wife, Jo, of Hurricane, Mary Mosley and her husband, Bill, of Newark, N.Y., Linda Allen and her husband, Ralph, of Forrest Hill, Md., Zetta Miller and her husband, Tom, of Welcome, Md., Darrell Lafferty and his wife, Melissa, of Grandview, David Lafferty of Hurricane, James Lafferty and his wife, Cindy, of Mount Hope and Jan Lafferty and his wife, Shirley, of Prosperity; a sister, Gracie Piper of Virginia; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Calfee Funeral Service Chapel, Pineville, with the Rev. Paul Holstein officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove cemetery, Ravencliff.

Pallbearers will be Roscoe “Bud” Lafferty Jr., Darrell Lafferty, David Lafferty, James Lafferty, Jan Lafferty and A.D. Davis.

Friends may call from noon until time of service at the funeral home on Monday.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Mr. Lafferty’s name to the Humane Society of Raleigh County, 325 Grey Flats Road, Beckley, WV 25801.

Edythe Hamlet Dunlap McGrath, 90, formerly of Crab Orchard, sister of Ruth Wilcox of Beckley, passed away Friday, April 7, 2006, in Orlando, Fla.

Sheryl A. Minter, 51, passed away Thursday, April 6, 2006.

Graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. Monday at Skaggs-McVey cemetery, Victor.

Jacob Louis Noland

On Friday, April 7, 2006, our son and brother, Jacob Louis Noland, 18, of Daniels, went to the Light. His last words were “hold me” and our Lord embraced him. Jake, be happy knowing you are loved here and in heaven. Praise be our Lord for his love. Goodness and mercy are with you, and in a blink of His eye we will be together again.

Jacob was born Nov. 11, 1987, in Beckley, the son of Michael and Teresa Carper Noland of Daniels.

Jacob was a member of the senior class at Shady Spring High School, and was a member of St. Francis deSales Catholic Church. In his spare time he enjoyed skateboarding and making jewelry for his friends. He was a former employee of Winterplace Ski Resort at Ghent, and was a lifelong resident of Daniels.

In addition to his mother and father, survivors include his brother, Sean Noland of Daniels; his two sisters, Sara and Amy Noland, both of Daniels; maternal grandparents, Mary and Lou Carper of Catonsville, Md.; and paternal grandmother, Viola Noland of Alderson.

Funeral liturgy will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Francis deSales Catholic Church, Beckley, with the Rev. Samuel S. Sacus as celebrant. Rite of committal will follow in Alderson cemetery.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at Calfee Funeral Home, Beckley, where a vigil prayer service will be held at 8:30 p.m., followed by a rosary service, both conducted by the Rev. Mr. Don Wise.

Pallbearers will be Ryan Carnell, Chris Case, Jonathan Archie, Jacob Lake, Andy Dunner and Thad Bowyer.

Jake would do anything he could to help another, so instead of sending flowers, we wish that you would make a donation to St. Francis deSales Catholic Church or to the Ronald McDonald House.

Howard St. Clair

Howard St. Clair, 80, of Beckley passed away Friday, April 7, 2006.

Born March 29, 1926 in Douglas, Ky., he was the son of the late Walter J. and Elsie Bernice Linkous St. Clair.

Mr. St. Clair was a member of Clifftop Missionary Baptist Church and the Beckley VFW, DAV and American Legion.

He was a coal miner with over 30 years of service.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Elmer Franklin St. Clair and Howard St. Clair Jr.; and two brothers, Elmer and John Wesley St. Clair.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Kathie Green St. Clair; two sons, Ronald St. Clair and wife, Berta, of Beckley and Daryl St. Clair and wife, Charlotte, of Dobson, N.C.; two daughters, Deborah St. Clair of Kansas City, Mo., and Cheryl St. Clair of Las Vegas, Nev.; stepdaughter, Cheryl Keys of Charleston; two stepsons, Darryl Kincaid Jr. and wife, Mary, of Williamstown and Roger Kincaid and wife, Jamie, of Charlotte, N.C.; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margie Massey of Dayton, Ohio, and Leoda Shrewsbury of Beaver; and a brother, Paul Garnett St. Clair of Beaver.

Service will be 11 a.m. Monday, April 10, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, 5251 Robert C. Byrd Drive, Beckley, with Rev. Roy Shrewsbury officiating. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Roderick Meadows, Donnie Basham, Shane Daughtery, Darryl Kincaid Jr., Roger Kincaid and David Thomas will be serving as pallbearers.

Friends may gather with the family 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
