Seldon P. Clemons

HELEN - Seldon P. Clemons, 92, died Wednesday, June 11, 2003, in a local hospital.

Arrangements by Williams-Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Sophia.

Mabel M. Cook

Mabel Marie Lilly Cook, 80, of Cabell Heights, Beckley, died Monday, June 9, 2003, in a Charleston hospital following a long illness.

Born Oct. 12, 1922, at Mabscott, she was the daughter of the late Garland D. and Martha Ann Aaron Lilly.

Mrs. Cook was a lifelong resident of the Beckley area. She, along with her husband, owned and operated Cook's Grocery Store on Old Eccles Road for several years and she was a retired employee of the J.C. Penney Store on Neville Street with over 17 years of service. She was a faithful member of the Oak Grove Christian Church.

Her husband, Charles Haskell Cook preceded her in death on Dec. 7, 1989. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Carl, Oscar, and Billy Lilly and five sisters, Joann Bailey, Irene McMillian, Ruby Norris, Lura Schweigher and Sarah Smith.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara M. Melton and her husband, H.E., a son, Charles H. Cook, all of Cabell Heights; a grandson, Greg Cook of Fayetteville; a granddaughter, Lavette Sturgill of Beckley; a sister, Geneva Lane of Oak Grove and by a large extended family.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday in the Oak Grove Christian Church, 273 Oak Grove Road, with Mr. Ken Overdorf and Mr. Rick Absher officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Tabor cemetery, Mt. Tabor Road, Beckley.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the church.

Pallbearers will be J.R. Ellison, Larry Metrick, David Norris, Paul Norris, Roger Pierce, Everett Reece and Jimmy Tolbert.

Robert Lee Curtis

HIGHLAND SPRINGS, Va. - Robert Lee Curtis, 60, formerly of Hinton, died Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at St. Mary's Hospital in Richmond, Va., following a short illness.

Earlene Cooper

Earlene Cooper, 75, of Coal City, died Tuesday, June 10, 2003, at her home following a long illness.

Born Aug. 1, 1928, in Davison, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Gaston Hargis and Audie Lowhorn Hargis.

Mrs. Cooper was a former cook for the Raleigh County Board of Education at Stoco Junior High School.

She had attended Lillybrook Freewill Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Gene Cooper; four sons, James "Butch" Cooper and wife, Joetta, of Coal City, John Cooper of Coal City, Gary Cooper and wife, Ersie, of Danese and Gene Cooper Jr. and wife, Kim, of Hagerstown, Md.; a daughter, Patricia Sanger and husband, Frank, of Midway; a brother, J.L. Hargis of Stanaford; four sisters, Alice Adkins of Harper, Allie Bowers of Coal City, Christine Farley of Horse Creek and Vella Bowers of Virginia; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. today at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel with Pastor Duane Pease officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.

Friends may call one hour before the services at the funeral home.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Patricia Ann Harless

RACINE - Patricia Ann Harless, 55, died Sunday, June 8, 2003.

Service will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Armstrong Funeral Home Chapel, Whitesville. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

James Perry Jackson

PEARISBURG, Va. - James Perry Jackson, 69, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 8, 2003, at his home in Pearisburg.

Born July 3, 1933, at Lindside, he was the son of the late Sherman and Lena Jackson Jackson.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Logan, Lymun, Charlie and Bailey Jackson.

Mr. Jackson retired from teaching at Giles High School in 1991, where he was cross-country coach and Key Club sponsor. He was a member of the Castle Rock Baptist Church in Pembroke, where he served as deacon, trustee and Sunday school teacher. He was a former member of the Pearisburg Kiwanis Club.

Mr. Jackson is survived by his wife, Meridel Lowe Jackson of Pearisburg, Va.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sarah and Jonathan Porter of Panama City, Fla., Elizabeth and Howard Grant of Romeoville, Ill.; two grandchildren, Mac and Molly Grant; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara and the Rev. Howard Kuhn of Brooksville, Fla., Lucille Bradshaw of Silver Lake, Ohio, Mary and Frank Rombow of Mechanicsville, Va., Sue and Fred Abbott of Roanoke, Judy and Ronnie Mann of Peterstown; and two brothers, Thomas and Irma Jackson of Davie, Fla., Graham Jackson of Riner, Va.

Service will be 2 p.m. today at Castle Rock Baptist Church in Pembroke with the Rev. Phillip Moran officiating, assisted by the Revs. Dewey Lowe and Donald Lowe. Interment will follow in the Birchlawn cemetery in Pearisburg.

The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Givens Funeral Home, 110 Woodrum St., Pearisburg.

The family asks that memorial contributions be made in Mr. Jackson's name to the Castle Rock Baptist Church or to the Giles County Rescue Squad.

Joseph Calvin Beverley

OAK HILL — Joseph Calvin Beverley, loving husband and father, surrendered his life Monday, June 12, 2006.

Born Aug. 20, 1918, at Snowden, Va., he was the son of the late Lawrence and Queny Lawhorn Beverley.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy A. Hayes and Marjorie L. Taylor.

He was a creative, adventurous and gentle man.

He is survived by his wife, R. Lorena Beverley; his children, Jo Karyn Beverley and James Beverley; and grandchildren, Jason R. Beverley and Jessica A. Beverley.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Daniel Legg officiating.

The family will receive friends noon until time of service Saturday at High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill.

Ann Holt Callahan

RICHWOOD — Ann Holt Callahan, 77, died Tuesday, June 13, 2006.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Richwood Presbyterian Church. Following interment, friends are asked to join in fellowship at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Richwood, hosted by the Knights of Columbus and Ladies of Holy Family Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Richwood Presbyterian Church, East Main Street, Richwood, WV 26261.

Mabel Marie Clay

Mabel Marie Clay, 87, of Beckley, passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2006.

Mabel was a member of First Baptist Church of Eccles.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mason Clay; brothers, James Snuffer, Davis Snuffer, Albert Snuffer and Hubert Snuffer; and sisters, Arlett Brown, Ruth Fernandez and Helen Acord.

Those left behind to cherish her memory include daughter, Ann Detzer and husband, Rick, of Okeechobee, Fla.; son, Glen Clay and wife, Erma, of Beckley; daughter, Wanda Dorsey and husband, Bill, of Beckley; and daughter, Joyce Johnson and husband, Will, of Baltimore, Md.; sister, Garnet Sanchez and husband, Charlie, of Florida; sister, Jewel Garten and husband, Edward, of Beckley; and brother, Paul Snuffer of Charleston; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Service will be noon Friday, June 16, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.

Friends may gather with the family one hour before service Friday at the funeral home.

Lillian M. Dancy

MILL CREEK — Lillian M. Dancy, 70, passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at Wyoming Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, New Richmond, following a long illness.

Calfee Funeral Service, Pineville, is serving the Dancy family.

Chris Lee Daniels

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Chris Lee Daniels, 60, formerly of Oak Hill, died Wednesday, May 24, 2006, at his home in Las Vegas.

Born Oct. 9, 1945, at Oak Hill, he was the son of Helen M. Spradling Daniels of Oak Hill and the late Rev. John Lee Daniels.

He was a product specialist for Client Logic Corp.

Chris was a graduate of Collins High School, Oak Hill, and West Virginia Institute of Technology with a degree in industrial arts.

He spoke often of his love for the Lord. “I’m never alone, He is always with me. He is my best friend.”

Chris loved his family and adored his children and grandchildren.

He proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy.

A niece, Rebecca Jo Brackman, preceded him in death.

Survivors include a son, Chad Allen Daniels of San Diego, Calif.; a daughter, Alisha Christian Robbins and her husband, Matt, of Murrieta, Calif.; three sisters, Carrol Ann Gowan and husband, Jerry, of Indianapolis, Ind., Connie Lynn Eleinko and husband, Al, of St. James City, Fla., and Donna Gaye Daniels of Beckley; two grandchildren, Jordan McKenna Robbins and Rhyann McKayla Robbins; five nieces and four nephews.

Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with Pastor Jerry Bush and the Rev. David White officiating. Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Friends may call noon to 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

George DeBoard

George DeBoard, 80, of Coal City, died Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at Raleigh General Hospital.

Robert ‘Bobby’ Lee Foster

WRISTON — Robert “Bobby” Lee Foster, 49, died Tuesday, June 13, 2006, at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill.

Born May 4, 1957, at Montgomery, he was the son of Margaret Taylor Foster of Ingram Branch and the late Calvin Foster.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Rebecca Raye Foster.

Survivors include two daughters, Tina Foster of Glen Jean and Michelle Ann Foster of Oak Hill; a stepson, Gary Elmore of Oak Hill; a sister, Carolyn Sue Foster-Elswick and husband, Ronald, of Ingram Branch; a brother, Lynn Edward Foster of Oak Hill; a grandson, Austin Evans of Glen Jean; and his companion, Melissa Scarbro. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and close friends.

Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Ronnie Persinger officiating. Burial will follow in Settle cemetery, Robson.

Friends may call 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
