Danny Ross Cline

MAXWELTON — Danny Ross Cline, 58 years old, formerly of Gilbert, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 12, 2007, at the Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Greenbrier, W.Va.

Born Sept. 19, 1948, at Gilbert, he was the son of Marie (Holbrook) Cline and the late Bert Mason Cline.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Cline.

Danny was a 1967 graduate of Gilbert High School, a Veteran of the U.S. Army, a disabled coal miner, a member of the UMWA and of the Protestant faith.

Those left to love and cherish the memory of Danny are his mother, Marie Cline, of Gilbert; his daughter, Lena (Barry) Shandor of Nitro; two granddaughters: Kierra and Michaela; his sister, Barbara (David) Ward of Gilbert; his two brothers: Terry (Judy) Cline of Lancaster, Ohio, and Doyle (Pinky) Cline of Varney; his nephew; his four nieces; and a host of family and friends.

Friends may call at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel in Gilbert 6 to 9 pm. today, Thursday, June 21, 2007. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 22, 2007, at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ronnie Lester officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Log cemetery at Baisden, W.Va.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Mounts Funeral Home, Inc., of Gilbert is in charge of the arrangements.

Juanita F. Fitzgerald

In loving memory of our mother who passed away on Sunday, June 3, 2007, after a long illness.

Juanita was born in Abraham, W.Va., on July 17, 1919, to Charles Ota Sr. and Flora L. Smith, and moved to Central Florida in 1959.

She is survived by her children, Stuart (Bonnie), Millie (Eddie), Paul (Charlene), Eddie (Faye) and son-in-law, Jim (Carolyn Jean); 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Marie Richmond, Carrie E. Mann; brother, C.O. Smith Jr.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Varden; children, Carolyn Lois and Billy Randall.

Memorial contributions may be made to Vitas Hospice, 5151 Adanson St., No. 200, Orlando, Fla. 32804 or Church of Christ, 1919 Harrell Road, Orlando, Fla. 32817.

Services were held 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 8, 2007, at Baldwin-Fairchild Funeral Home Goldenrod Chapel, 7520 Aloma Ave., Winter Park, Fla. (407) 677-5091.

Ethel Mae Gordon

SCOTT DEPOT — Ethel Mae Gordon, 87, formerly of Beckley, died Tuesday, June 19, 2007, in Hurricane.

Arrangements are incomplete at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton.

Crystal M. ‘Crissy’ Grotto

LINDSIDE — Crystal M. “Crissy” Grotto, age 26, passed away Friday, June 15, 2007.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 22, 2007, at the Peterstown cemetery. Anyone wishing to attend can meet at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, June 21, 2007, at the funeral home.

Johnnie Ruth Herron

Johnnie Ruth Herron, 71, of Beckley passed away Monday, June 18, 2007.

She was born Sept. 29, 1935, to the late Carl and Virdie Bar-ker.

Known as Ruth to friends and family, she enjoyed spending time with her fami-ly, being close to her grandson and spending time with her church. Ruth was a graduate of Glen Rogers High School and retired from the U.S. Postal Service with 20 years of service.

In addition to her parents, Ruth is preceded in death by husband, Raymon Herron.

Those left to cherish her memory include a son, Jeffery Herron and wife, Patricia, of Dallas, N.C.; a grandson, Christopher Matthew Herron of Charlotte, N.C.; two sisters, Agnes Marshall of Beckley and Patricia Beers of Debarry, Fla.; brothers, Jerry Barker and Kenneth Barker, both of Beckley.

Graveside service will be 3 p.m. today, Thursday, June 21, 2007, at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Packs Branch Baptist Church, Rt. 1 Box 28, Mt. Hope, WV 25880.

Lelia ‘Libby’ Johnson Lindsay

Lelia “Libby” Johnson Lindsay, a beautiful life, left this world peacefully on June 17, 2007.

Born in Glen Ferris, W.Va., on Feb. 27, 1926, she was the first born child of Elliott and Estelle Johnson.

Lelia was the faithful wife of more than fifty years to Marvin Lindsay, who preceded her in death.

The beloved mother of Marcellis Lindsay Parker (husband, Randy) and Maurice Lindsay; survived by a devoted brother and sister-in-law John “Junior” and Burnell Johnson; a loving sister, Vivian White; and aunt, Anastine Wright.

She left a legacy of unconditional love for her five grandchildren, nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends.

Graduated from Simmons High School, she spent most of her working career with the Fayette County Board of Education, Rosedale Elementary School.

She had a heart of gold, a spirit of gentleness and the smile of an angel. Admired by all who met her, loved by all who knew her. As a dedicated Sunday School teacher and member of First Baptist Church of Harlem Heights, she lived her life dedicated to and loving the Lord.

A homegoing service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Harlem Heights on Saturday, June 23, at noon, with visitation beginning at 11 a.m. Internment immediately following at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Arrangements are entrusted to Ritchie & Johnson Funeral Parlor, Beckley.

Kenneth V. Lowry

“To be absent from the body, is to be present with the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 5:8.

Kenneth V. Lowry, of Beckley, beloved son of Frank Vernon and Edith Lucas Lowry, went to haul gravel for Jesus, Tuesday, June 19, 2007, at Raleigh General Hospital after a sudden illness.

Kenny was welcomed into this world on Aug. 1, 1963, in Hinton, the baby brother of Steve and Kathy.

Kenny grew up in Summers County. He began his work career with his Dad, followed by driving for Crooks Produce and Peerless Packing. He then worked in the logging industry, followed by the opening of his own trucking business, Kenneth Lowry Trucking, Inc., in Monroe County.

Kenny moved to Greenbrier County and owned/operated Eastern Greenbrier Trucking, Inc. In 2006, he moved to Raleigh County after having met the love of his life, Peggy.

Kenny was preceded to the heavenly homeland by his paternal grandparents, Samuel T. and Lola Frith Lowry; maternal grandparents, Edward and Emma Jones Lucas; cousin, David M. Lowry, whom he loved as a brother; a very special niece, Cheri Lynn Lucas; and nephews, J. W. Ward and Thomas Wayne Huffman.

Kenny’s memory will be cherished by his fiancée, Peggy Cantley, whom he loved more than life itself, and her granddaughter, Brittany Leann Shelton, who was Kenny’s “very best frweend”; parents, Frank V. and Edith Lowry; brothers, Steve and his wife, Becky, of Forest Hill, Jerry and his wife, Tammie, of Max Meadows, Va., and Randy of Hinton; sisters, Kathy Farley and her husband, Joey, of Dorothy, Pam Ward, Vickie Cales and her husband, Chuck, of Hinton, Teresa and her husband, Gary, of Sandstone, and Drema Presley and her husband, Timmy, of Powley’s Creek; nephews, Jay Holland of Forest Hill; Clay Holland of Hinton; great-nephews, Corey Holland of Forest Hill, Dylan Holland of N.C., Scott Lowry of VA, Kenneth Davis of Hinton, and George Treadway of Richmond, Va.; nieces Carrie Lowry of Phillipi, Jessie Woodrum of Hilldale, Cassie and Heaven Cales of Hinton, and Crystal Bowling of Nimitz great-niece Samantha Holland of Forest Hill; and numerous family and friends.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 23, 2007, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, W.Va., with Pastor Daymond Snuffer officiating. Kenny will be taken to “The Lowry Farm” to be buried in the Huffman Family cemetery at Little Wolf Creek, Summers County.

Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.

Everyone can pay their respects and share their memories of Kenny 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, June 22, 2007, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley.

Charlie Manning, 54, of Beckley, died Wednesday, June 20, 2007, at Bowers Hospice House.

CASS — Bennie Queen, 63, died Tuesday, June 19, 2007.

Freda Sherlene Shumate

OCEANA — Freda Sherlene Shumate, departed this life, Monday, June 18, 2007, at the age of 52 years, surrounded by her loving family at her mother’s home following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born April 27, 1955, in McDowell County, she was the daughter of the late Jessie Earl Toler and Truby Ann Belcher Toler.

Sherlene was a 1973 graduate of Oceana High School, and enjoyed being with her family and her friends at Fox’s Pizza in Oceana.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Boyd and Mary Belcher; paternal grandparents, Aldie and Vicie Toler; an aunt, Freda Roberts; three uncles, Willie Toler, Edwin Toler and Walter Toler.

Those left to cherish her memory are her mother, Truby Toler of Lynco; a son, Jesse E. Newsome and his wife, Diana, of Oceana; a daughter, Jeri Leann Shumate of Oceana; a brother, David E. Toler and his wife, Tabitha, of Lynco; a aunt, Juanita Morgan and her husband, James, of Simon; three uncles, Benny Toler and his wife, Karen, of Lynco, William Belcher and his wife, Mona, of Foxboro, Mass., Columbus Belcher and his wife, Sherry, of Minnesota; two grandchildren, Adrian Nicole Newsome and Ethan Hunter Newsome; her friends from Fox’s Pizza in Oceana; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

A celebration of Sherlene’s life will be 1 p.m. Friday, June 22, 2007, at Adam Toler Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Billy Stewart and the Rev. Jay Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in Long Branch Mountain cemetery, Simon.

Casketbearers will be Brendon Toler, Rick Anderson, Pat Morgan, Willie Morgan, Mike Lester and Jon Miller.

The family will receive friends 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Emory Anderson, 71, of Beckley, died Friday, June 22, 2007, at Raleigh General Hospital.

Loretta Ann Daniels

Loretta Ann Daniels, 53, of Midway, passed away Thursday, June 21, 2007.

Born May 15, 1954, she was the daughter of the late Bennie and Gracie Plumley Bennett.

Loretta was employed as a certified nursing assistant at Heartland of Beckley. She was a supreme caregiver. She enjoyed helping everyone around her. She spent a lot of time working in her flower and vegetable gardens. She liked canning vegetables, going camping and collecting frog figurines.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 33 years, Terry of Midway; two sons, Jesse Daniels and his wife, Kim, of Cool Ridge and Jamie Daniels and his wife, Angela, of Crab Orchard; a daughter, Melanie Daniels of Athens; six grandchildren; a brother, Bennie Bennett Jr. of Rock Hill, S.C.; a sister, Belinda Mitchem of Mabscott; and several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 1 p.m. Monday, June 25, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Bruce Daniels, Brandon Daniels, Donnie Daniels, Daniel Mitchem, Jeff Varney and Billy Fraley.

Friends may gather with the family 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 24, at the funeral home.
