Kenneth ‘Red’ Mitchell Lowe

HURRICANE — Kenneth “Red” Mitchell Lowe, 85, went to be with the Lord April 8, 2006. He died peacefully at home after a short illness.

Born Aug. 13, 1920, in Kanawha County, he was the son of the late Lester J. and Nancy M. Lowe.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Oreita Ann.

Mr. Lowe was a veteran serving in the US Navy during World War II. He retired from Union Carbide with 40 years of service. He was a member of Forrest Burdette United Methodist Church, a Mason and a member of Putnam Lodge No. 139, the Scottish Rites, and I.A.M. Local 656.

He is survived by daughters and son-in-law, Nancy Adkins of Fayetteville, WV, and Candy and Carl Handley of Fayetteville, Ariz.; grandchildren, Sara Adkins of Asheville, N.C., and Christopher Adkins of Fayetteville, WV; brothers, John Lowe and Joe Lowe of Beckley, and sister, Patty Mayes of St. Albans.

Service will be 1 p.m. today at Allen Funeral Home, 2837 Main St., Hurricane with the Rev. Dr. Dan Hogan officiating. Burial will follow in the Valley View Memorial Park at Hurricane.

Friends called 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Arrangements by Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane.

Glenna V. Morris

Glenna V. Morris, age 96, of 488 Old Eccles Rd., Beckley, died Sunday, April 9, 2006, at the Heartland of Beckley following a short illness.

Born June 22, 1909, in Pembroke, Va., she was the daughter of the late Charlie McGuire and Salonia Williams McGuire.

Mrs. Morris was a homemaker, and a member of the Berean Missionary Baptist Church at Kimballton, Va., and also a member of the Old Grove Chapel at Crab Orchard.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Emory Morris; a son, Arnold R. Tawney; sisters, Lucy Ann Lucas, Agnes Merrix, and Sippie Hutchison; and brothers, Roy, Everette, and Samuel McGuire.

Survivors include her sons, Samuel C. Tawney of Orange Park, Fla., Lester L. Tawney of Stephenson, and Emory Bedford Morris of East Bend, N.C.; three sisters, Beulah Radford of Pembroke, Va., Dorothy Young of Pembroke, Va., and Ruby Willis of Waynesboro, Ga.; seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley with the Rev. Ronald Adkins officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Deacons of the Old Grove Chapel will serve as pallbearers.

Joseph ‘Joe’ Mounts

BAISDEN — Joseph “Joe” Mounts, 62, died Sunday, April 9, 2006.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Full Gospel Church of God, Basiden. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the church.

Jesse M. Rinehart

MULLENS — Jesse M. Rinehart, 82, died Sunday, April 9, 2006, in Raleigh General Hospital following a long illness.

Born Aug. 16, 1923, at Otsego, he was the son of the late Bill Rinehart and Gertie Shortridge Rinehart.

Mr. Rinehart was a retired coal miner, a member of the UMWA, and a World War II US Army veteran.

He was a member of the Church of the Christ faith and a Mullens resident most of his life.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Rinehart; and a daughter, Diane Chambers.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Powers Rinehart; a son, David Rinehart of Mullens; a brother, Harold Rinehart of Texas; two sisters, Helen Milam of Mullens, and Frances Hallmark of Texas; grandchildren, Nolan Rinehart and wife, Stephanie, and Jason Rinehart and wife, Enis; two great-grandchildren, Katie Tilley and Alyssa Rinehart; and special friends, Hyle and Charlotte Atkins of Mullens.

Committal service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum, Beckley. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.

Friends may call 30 minutes prior to the service Wednesday at the mausoleum.

Elizabeth J. ‘Minnie’ Smith

HINTON — Elizabeth J. “Minnie” Smith, 51, of 512 4th Ave., Hinton, died Saturday, April 8, 2006, at her home, following a long illness.

Born Dec. 11, 1954, at Hinton, she was the daughter of the late James and Mary Frances Smith Cook.

She was a lifelong resident of Summers County, she was a member of the Ramp Holiness Church and a former employee of the Summers County Continuous Care Center at Hilldale, the Oak Supper Club and the Pipestem Resort.

Survived by her husband, Lee Smith at home; two sons, Billy Trivett of Hinton and Randolph Masten “Rooster” Meador; two brothers, Robert Smith of Sandstone and Willard Ray Cook of North Ft. Myers, Fla., and three grandchildren, Bubba, Bull and Zack.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel in Hinton with Pastors Lewis and Patricia Cales officiating.

Friends may call from noon until time of the service Thursday at the funeral parlors.

Margie E. Stone

ANSTED — Margie E. Stone, 80, passed away Sunday, April 9, 2006, at a Beckley hospital, following a long illness.

Memorial services will be scheduled at a later date.

Boyd W. Tilley

KEYROCK — Boyd W. Tilley, 91, passed away Sunday, April 9, 2006, in Wyoming Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, New Richmond, following a long illness.

Born Dec. 28, 1914, at Pineville, he was the son of the late Charles S. and Catherine Buchannon Tilley. Mr. Tilley was a member of Coon Fork Church, Keyrock, where he served as a deacon and Sunday school superintendent for 50 years. He was a coal miner with 27 years of service and later worked as a barber for six years..

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Samuel Charles Tilley; a granddaughter, Victoria Green Sneed; five brothers, Fred, Bill, Paul, Archie and Ray Tilley; and four sisters, Ina Gunter, Nola Green, Virgie Reid and Corbia Pendry.

Survivors include his loving wife of 68 years, Gyneth Roles Tilley; two sons, Leo Tilley and his wife, Kay, of Pickens, S.C., and Terry Tilley and his wife, Lucy, of Sanger, Calif.; three daughters, Theda Green and her husband, Darrell, of Pineville, Corma Rein and her husband, Jim, of Savannah, Ga., and Judy McKay and her husband, Tom, of Cleveland, Ohio; a sister, Bonnie Tilley Rose of Houston, Texas; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Calfee Funeral Service Chapel, Pineville, with the Revs. Charlie Milam and Richard Lusk officiating. Burial will follow in Shumate Family cemetery, Saulsville.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Calfee Funeral Service of Pineville is serving the Tilley family.

Jackie Lee Toler

LONG BRANCH — Jackie Lee Toler, 53, went to be with the Lord after a mining accident on Friday, April 7, 2006, at Wharton, WV.

He was born March 3, 1953, at Simon, a son of the late Frank Halfred and Bertha Mae Cline Toler.

Jackie was a loving husband, a devoted father and grandfather, and a member of the Long Branch Freewill Baptist Church where he was an ordained Deacon and Assistant Sunday School Superintendent. He was a coal miner for 31 years, a member of the UMWA and worked for Candice Coal Company.

His brother, Dennis Ray Toler also preceded him in death.

Survivors include his loving wife of 28 years, Dreama Brooks Toler; three daughters, Tiffany Kay Kennedy and Vanessa Dawn Toler, both of the home and Bridget Lasha Day and husband, Alan of Woodleef, N.C.; two granddaughters, Alexis Kay Kennedy and Ashlee Lasha Day; three sisters, Joann Toler and Betty Kennedy, both of Simon, Gayvon Walls and husband, Richard of Tamcliff, WV, and a host of other loving family and friends.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Long Branch Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Lonnie Blankenship and the Rev. Robert Hunt officiating. Burial will follow in the Toler Cline cemetery, Long Branch.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. today at the church.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

The family is being served by the Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco.

Betty Lou Ewing Williams

Betty Lou Ewing Williams, 72, of Beckley, died Sunday, April 9, 2006, at SunBridge Pine Lodge Care and Rehabilitation, Beckley.

Born June 22, 1933, at Clear Creek, WV, a daughter of the late Dessie and Nellie Toney Ewing.

Mrs. Williams was a homemaker and attended the Clear Creek Presbyterian Church.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Roy Ewing.

Survivors include her husband, Forrest Franklin Williams of Beckley; a sister, Alice Lawlor of Beckley; a niece, Teresa Lawlor of Saint Albans; and sisters-in-law, Patty Withrow of Clendenin, Helen Totten of Baltimore, Md., Wilma Williams of Detroit, Mich., and Dolly Swartz and husband, J.W., of Kure Beach, N.C.

Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope, with the Rev. Jerry Lawrence and David Pettry officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home in Mount Hope.

RUPERT — Tim H. Brown, 55, of Rupert, passed away Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006, at home following a long illness.
