LITTLE RIVER, S.C. — Terrie Stanley Lively, 48, passed away peacefully, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer on Wednesday, July 19, 2006, at her home in Little River surrounded by her loving family.
She was a graduate of Dunbar High School and received her associate degree from the University of Charleston, and was a member of First Church United Methodist of Dunbar.
She was formerly of Beckley and Dunbar. Terri was a real estate paralegal for Davis Law Firm in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Terrie was a very devoted wife and loving mother. She will always be remembered for the love that she had for her family, bright and warm smile and her wonderful sense of humor.
Terrie was preceded in death by her father, Miles C. Stanley.
She is survived by her husband, Alan; two sons, Justin and Alex; her mother, Romaleda Stanley of Dunbar; two sisters, Pennie Ritenour and her husband, Bob, of St. Albans and Brenda Elliott and her husband, Stan, of Ripley; father and mother-in-law, Les and Aileen Lively of Beckley; two nieces, Hollie Shephard and April Shriner; and two nephews, Michael Elliott and Lee Metz.
A celebration of Terrie’s life will be 3 p.m. Saturday, July 29, at Bartlett Burdette Cox Funeral Home, Charleston, with Rev. Joel Harpold officiating.
The family will receive friends two hours before service.

Jackie L. Lusk
HERNDON — Jackie L. Lusk, 70, was called home to be with our Lord on Tuesday, July 25, 2006, following a long illness.
Born June 4, 1936, at Lusk Settlement, he was the son of the late Walter and Polly England Lusk.
Mr. Lusk attended Garwood Church of God, was a member of the UMWA and Local Union 9781. He was a disabled coal miner with 20 years of service. He loved attending church, hunting, fishing and bluegrass music. He was a lifelong resident of the Lusk Settlement.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Arlee, Corbet and Monterville Lusk; and two sisters, Agnes Whitt and Elsie Gent.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 52 years, Juanita Mitchem Lusk; a son, Larry Lusk and his wife, Vickie, of Lusk Settlement; a daughter, Donna Darnell and her husband, Scott, of Ripplemead, Va.; two granddaughters, Nicole Reed and Aloria Proffitt, both of Ripplemead; two brothers, Troy Lusk and his wife, Lillian, of Alpoca and Edgar Lusk and his wife, Mary, of Basin; three sisters, Bernice Lusk of Lusk Settlement, Eula McKinney of New Richmond and Patty Sisk and her husband, Will, of Jonben; and many well-loved nieces and nephews.
Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Garwood Church of God with the Rev. Ricky Shrewsberry officiating. Burial will follow in Lusk Family cemetery, Lusk Settlement.
Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the church and one hour before service Friday.
Pallbearers will be Roger, Tom, Ronnie and Willie Lusk, Jonathan Adkins and Little Bill Horne.

Esther L. Matheny
LEWISBURG — Ms. Esther L. Matheny, 72, passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2006, in Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Fairlea, after a long illness.
Born Nov. 24, 1933, in Lewisburg, she was the daughter of the late Wallace R. and Thelma Jenkins Matheny.
Ms. Matheny was a life-long resident of Lewisburg, member of Lewisburg United Methodist Church, 48-year member of the Lewisburg chapter of the Eastern Star, Greenbrier County CEOS, 4-H All Stars, Democratic Women and was a self-employed care taker and homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Robert H. Matheny.
Survivors include a brother, James “Butch” Matheny of Lewisburg; a niece, Amy M. Churilla and husband, Jeff, of Columbia, Md.; a nephew, Reid Matheny and wife, Theresa, of Bethesda, Md.; two grandnieces, Abby and Reese Churilla of Columbia, Md.; and a very special friend, Jo Ann Yates of Lewisburg.
Ms. Matheny has been cremated at her request and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Roy Earl Miller
LEWISBURG — Roy Earl Miller, 63, passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2006, at his home after a long illness.
Born March 28, 1943, in Zenith, he was the son of the late Earl and Pearlie Neel Miller.
Mr. Miller had been a life-long resident of Lewisburg, was a machine operator for Hercules and was an Army veteran.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Ruby Hale.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Frances Miller; three daughters, Julie Whitcomb and husband, Robert, of Lewisburg, Kim Boone and husband, Barry, of Ronceverte and Penny Hinkley and husband, David, of Lewisburg; two sons, Scottie Miller and wife, Shaina, of Lewisburg and Gary Baker and wife, Robin, of Lewisburg; a brother, Dillard Miller of Union; special friend, Robert Johnson of Lewisburg; 14 grandchildren, Brandon Defibaugh, Brandy Hamrick, Kelli Baker, Dustin Bennett, Richard Baker, Kayla George, Jamie Baker, Alan Whitcomb, Brent Miller, Kendra Baker, Abbey Miller, Daniel Hinkley, Sabrina Hinkley and David A. Hinkley; and two great-grandchildren, Briana Hinkley and Eran Plott.
Service will be 1 p.m. Friday, July 28, at Zenith Baptist Church with Pastor Jim Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in Rosewood cemetery, Lewisburg.

Lovdie Graham Shrewsbury
ROANOKE, Va. — Lovdie Graham Shrewsbury, 94, loving mother and grandmother, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 25, 2006.
She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Shrewsbury; daughter, Hazel Booth; grandson, Bryan Shrewsbury; and daughter-in-law, Barbara Shrewsbury.
She is survived by eight children, sons and daughters-in-law, Shirley and Hylanda Shrewsbury of Clearwater, Fla., Claude and Jewell Shrewsbury of Cortez, Colo., Calvin and Mildred Shrewsbury of Daleville, Va., Denny Shrewsbury of Troutville, Va., Damon and Cheryl Shrrewsbury of Ustis, Fla., and Martin and Brenda Shrewsbury; daughters and sons-in-law, Dora and Dale Woodie of Roanoke and Peggy and Al Horton of Roanoke; grandson and wife, Gene and Sue Heiler of Roanoke; 21 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Lotz Salem Chapel, 1330 E. Main St., Salem, Va., with the Rev. Carter Sloan officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

Linda ‘Karen’ Skaggs
ST. ALBANS — Linda “Karen” Skaggs, 62, died Tuesday, July 25, 2006, at her residence.
Karen was a loving mother and grandmother. She retired with 25 years of service from Verizon in Charleston.
She was preceded in death by her father, Joe Martin, and brother, Joseph K. Martin.
She is survived by her daughter, Tammy L. Crouse of St. Albans; sons, Warren Skaggs of Winfield and Chris Skaggs of St. Albans; mother, Marion Martin of Russell-ville; sister, Anne Smith of Russellville; and grandchildren, Danielle, Zachary and Madison.

Elizabeth Sue Thompson
Elizabeth Sue Thompson, 79, of Beckley, was dead on arrival at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley on Tuesday, July 25, 2006.
Born at Thurmond on July 6, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Walter J. and Algie Huffman Thompson.
Miss Thompson was a retired employee of G.C. Murphy Co. and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors are sisters, Gertrude Epperly of Beaver, Dorothy Hunt and husband, Eddie, of Beckley, Phyllis White and husband, William, of Beckley and Patricia Scott of Hampton, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. John Rinker officiating. Friends may call one hour before service Friday at the funeral home.

Josette B. Traynham
STOUGHTON, Mass. — Josette B. Traynham, 57, formerly of Whipple, died Sunday, July 23, 2006, at Good Samaritan Hospital, Stoughton, following a brief illness.
Born Aug. 19, 1948, at Harvey, she was the daughter of the late William Traynham and Beatrice Leftwich Traynham.
Miss Traynham worked at the Belmont Street School where she attained her degree as a para-professional, and was a graduate of Collins High School. She was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her brother, William “Willie” Traynham Jr.; and a niece, Rene Traynham.
Survivors include her fiancé, Robert Rizzie; sons, Senior Chief, U.S. Navy, Robert Lennell (Wendy) Traynham of Annapolis, Md., Kenneth Lemearle (Deanna) Traynham of Whipple and Petty Officer 2nd Class, U.S. Navy, Anthony Lamont (Amie) Traynham of Norfolk, Va.; brothers and sister, Richard (Marie) Traynham of New Rochelle, N.Y., Robert (Marilyn) Traynham, Eugene (Janice) Traynham and Kenneth (Emma) Traynham, all of Boston, Mass., and John “J.B.” Traynham (Brenda) of Fayetteville; a very special devoted sister, Joyce V. Willis of Whipple; 10 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Rondey L. Webb Sr.
Rondey Leon Webb Sr., 86, of Beckley, died Tuesday, July 25, 2006, after a long illness.
Born in Allisonia, Va., on Nov. 12, 1919, he was the son of the late Bessie Jane Montgomery Webb and Kennard McKinley Webb.
Mr. Webb is survived by his wife, Maxene Taylor Webb; a son, Rondey Leon Webb Jr. and his wife, Rise Snead Webb; and a daughter, Nancy Jane Payne and her husband, Philip Payne. He was also the father of the late Julia Nell Webb. Mr. Webb is also survived by six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Webb was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran. Serving as first lieutenant and B-26 bomber pilot, he flew 64 combat missions in Italy and North Africa, and was base communications officer.
Following the war, he graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute where he received a B.S. degree in horticulture.
Along with his wife and son, Webb was co-owner of Webb’s Florist and Greenhouses, established 58 years ago.
Mr. Webb became president of many organizations, including the Beckley Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jaycees), the Raleigh County TB and Health Organization, the Raleigh County Red Cross, the Lions Club, the Beckley-Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce, the Raleigh County Extension Committee, the Southern West Virginia Regional Health Association (OH-9), the Thomas Walker Foundation (for many years), the Raleigh County Board of Education (president eight of his 14 years on the board) and the Tri-State Growers Association of Virginia, West Virginia and Ohio.
Mr. Webb was a member of the Raleigh County Court (now the Raleigh County Commission), the 1956 Raleigh County Democratic chairman, vice president of the state Junior Chamber of Commerce, and vice president of the Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital Advisory Board. He was an original director of Gulf National Bank and past director of United National Bank. He was a member of Beckley Presbyterian Church, the Beckley Rotary Club and Black Knight Country Club.
Among his contributions to the community were obtaining finances for the initial development of the Stephens Lake project, helping the YMCA obtain its first space in Beckley (the Memorial Building), promoting the addition of fluoride to the Raleigh County water supply, initiating the development of the sewer system for the Crab Orchard-MacArthur Public Service District, helping secure the government grant for the OH-9 Regional Health Council and promoting the gift of more than $1 million in seed money from the Thomas Walker Foundation for the establishment of the Beckley Area Foundation. In 1997 he was designated a Paul Harris Fellow by the Beckley Rotary Club.
Visitation will be 2 p.m. Friday, July 28, at Melton Mortuary, Beckley. Memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Adrian Pratt officiating. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.
