NETTIE — Alma L. Collins, 49, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006.

At her request, the body was cremated. There will be no service.

Pauline Elizabeth Masten Comer

RICHWOOD — Pauline Elizabeth Masten Comer, 88, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2006.

Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Simons-Coleman Funeral Home, Richwood. Friends may call 1 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home.

Gladys Margaret Crookshanks

ALDERSON — Gladys Margaret Crookshanks, 91, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2006.

Service will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home, Lewisburg. Friends may call noon until time of service at the funeral home.

Genevieve ‘Genny’ Elmore

WHIPPLE — Genevieve “Genny” Carol Naylor Elmore, 74, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2006, at her home following an extended illness.

Bethel Hungate Lilly

Bethel Hungate Lilly, 73, of Prosperity, formerly of Coal City, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006, at Raleigh General Hospital following a long illness.

Born Nov. 24, 1933, at Laurel Creek, she was the daughter of the late Robert L. Staton and Rose Berry Staton.

After graduation from Woodrow Wilson High School, Mrs. Lilly had been employed at G.C. Murphy Co., JC Penney and Hill’s Department Store.

She retired from Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, last working in the Emergency Room Department as a unit secretary. Her employment at Raleigh General Hospital, beginning at the old hospital, lasted for 28 years.

She received the Dr. Frist Humanitarian Award in 1996 for her hard work and passion for her job.

Mrs. Lilly attended Cranberry Baptist Church.

She was loved by everyone, and will be remembered for her considerate, enthusiastic selfless personality and as a good cook and her peanut butter fudge.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Lilly; brothers, John Lee Staton and Robert L. Staton; and sisters, Bertha Malone and Beverly Haygood.

Surviving are her first husband and the father of her three children, Dexter Hungate; a son, H.D. “J.R.” Hungate and wife, Beth, of Richmond, Va.; daughters, Kathy Sanders and husband, Doug, of Beckley and Annette Phillips and husband, Gary, of Camp Creek; a stepson, Michael Lilly and wife, Linda, of Mobile, Ala.; grandchildren, Jeremy and Jennifer Sanders, Brittany and Brooklyn Attilli, Kendall and Rachael Hungate, Jason and Jennifer Lilly, and Devin, Dana, and Jarred Phillips; great-grandchildren, Kaidin, Addison and Riley Phillips; brothers, Jimmy Staton and wife, “Judy,” of MacArthur and Danny Staton and wife, Peggy, of Shady Spring; sisters, Shirley Hudgins of Roanoke, Va., and Sharon Fink and husband, Ronnie, of Coal City; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Service will be 1 p.m. today at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, Beckley, with Pastor Roger Pauley officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum, Beckley.

Friends called 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Decima Naomi Pennock

OAK HILL — Decima Naomi Pennock, 71, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006, at Charleston Area Medical Center, General Division.

Born May 8, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Theodore Everett and Mary Elizabeth Coleman Pennock.

A Christian all her life, Decima was raised in the Brethren Church and later participated in the Assembly of God and Alliance churches until ill health prevented her attendance.

Her grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins preceded her in death.

Survivors include four sisters, Mary Lu (Rodney) Warstler, Nila Smith, Theodora Pennock and Eleanor (Patrick) Hamilton.

Also surviving are nieces and nephews, (Mary Lu’s family) Liz (Don) Flaker and children, Timothey Warstler and daughter, Martha (Keith) Coleman and son, James (Sandra) Warstler and children; (Nila’s family) Melinda Kincaid and children and grandchildren, Angel Hunt and children, Melissa (Scott) Moore, Tede Smith and daughter; (Eleanor’s family) Jason, Robin (Terry) Holtman and Bethany.

Several cousins, a loving aunt, Lula Thompson, and many friends including special friends, Kathy and Javo Ward, and daughters, Crystal and Jeannette, survive.

Decima also leaves many pets that gave her pleasure during her long illness.

Service will be 2 p.m. today at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with the Rev. George Mandakunis officiating. Burial will follow in Dooley cemetery, Salem Road, Route 1, Fayetteville.

Friends called 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and may call one hour before service today at the funeral home.

Kenneth K. Reed

HINTON — Kenneth K. Reed, 77, of Beech Run, died Dec. 19, 2006.

Mr. Reed’s body was cremated and burial will follow at a later date.

Frances J. Sampson

LEWISBURG — Frances J. Sampson, 81, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2006.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Rosewood cemetery, Lewisburg. There will be no visitation.

Wilma Jean Semsick

Wilma Jean Semsick, 68, of Beckley, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006, at her home of a sudden illness.

Jessie C. Stover

ROBSON — A great father and grandfather, Jessie C. Stover, 80, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006, at Charleston Area Medical Center, Memorial Division.

Born April 30, 1926, at Robson, he was the son of the late Roscoe and Ola Rollins Stover.

Mr. Stover was disabled from General Motors.

Jessie was an avid hunter.

His wife, Betty Lively Stover; a son, Wayne Stover; daughter, Judy Taylor; great-granddaughter, Annie Dorsey; two sisters, Ora Eads and Colleen Stover; and four brothers, Alfred, Ernest, Lucky and Andrew Stover, preceded him in death.

Survivors include two sons, Matt Stover and Michael Stover, both of Robson; five daughters, Debbie Elswick of Dixie, Penny Flint of Robson, Christine Hill of Pratt, Arbutus Beaver of Robson and Julie Foster of Lizemores; a brother, Sherman Stover of Robson; four sisters, Janie Bailey, Patsy Bailey, Katie Taylor and Mary Taylor, all of Loudonville, Ohio; 17 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 31, at Freewill Baptist Church, Robson, with the Rev. Gary Tucker officiating. Burial will follow in Settle cemetery, Robson.

Friends may call 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Marvin A. Brooks

PRINCETON — Marvin A. Brooks, 76, of Princeton, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006.

Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home, Princeton. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Appalachian Teen Challenge, P.O. Box 980, Athens, WV 24712.

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS — Gordon Lee Feury, 51, of White Sulphur Springs, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2006.

ROXBORO, N.C. — Ida Mae Lilly, 79, of Roxboro, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006, at her residence.

FORT SPRING — Elizabeth Ann Smith Longanacre, 61, of Fort Spring, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2006, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Rehabilitation Center, Roanoke, Va., following a short illness.

George Burke Niday Jr.

BARRETT — George Burke Niday Jr., 74, of Barrett, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Dec. 29, 2006.

He was born Nov. 15, 1932, at Slab Fork, the son of the late George and Carrie Niday.

He was an employee of Eastern Associated Coal for 46 years. He was also a member of UMWA Local 9177, and was a Korean veteran.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia “Butch” Niday; a son, George Niday III; a brother, Louis Niday; and a sister, Gloria Pierce.

He is survived by a daughter, Debbie Brown and husband, Chris, of Fuquay Varina, N.C.; a son, Rodney Niday and wife, Linda, of Barrett; a brother, Morris Niday and wife, Peggy, of Crab Orchard; sisters, Frances Hightower of Midway and Geraldine Hatcher and husband, Orville, of Midway; and three grandchildren, Justin Niday of Gordon and Allison and Baylee Niday of Barrett.

Service will be 2 p.m. today at Handley Funeral Home, Danville, with the Rev. Dan Williams and the Rev. Scotty Elswick officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens, Madison, with the Rev. Howard Sparks.

Friends may call noon until time of service today at the funeral home.
