Wilma Jean Semsick

Wilma Jean Semsick, 68, of Beckley, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006, at her home following a sudden illness.

Born at Terry on Dec. 12, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Eddie Adkins and Mary Hall Adkins.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of God Family Worship Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Semsick; and a brother, Lynn Adkins.

Survivors include her sons, William Semsick and wife, Lucinda, of Womelsdorf, Pa., Eddie Semsick of Tipton, Ind., and Rodney Semsick and wife, Mary, of Pensacola, Fla.; a daughter, Natalie Melear and husband, Michael, of Loganville, Ga.; brothers, Johnny Adkins, Billy Joe Adkins and Roy Adkins, all of Piney View, and Jack Adkins of Danese; sisters, Ruth Gillian of Lanark, Rose Berry of Harper Heights, and Judy Sadler of Crab Orchard; and seven grandchildren.

Service will be 3 p.m. today at the Church of God Family Worship Center, Beckley, with the Rev. Mark Schrade and the Rev. Gene Hall officiating. Burial with graveside rites will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Oakland cemetery, Indiana, Pa.

Friends may call one hour before service today at the church.

Mary Ann Gregg Taylor

On Friday, Dec. 29, 2006, our beloved Mother, loving grandmother and dear sister, Mary Ann Gregg Taylor of Daniels, passed away in a Beckley hospital following a long illness. She was 76 years of age.

Mary Ann was born June 29, 1930, in Beckley, the daughter of the late Walter S. and Violet Allen Gregg.

Mary Ann spent her childhood on Quarry Street, where she was a longtime resident. She was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. A homemaker, she had been a resident of Duke Street in Daniels since 1998. She was of the Christian faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wiley Raymond Taylor, on Aug. 18, 1997; four sons, Gary and Dwayne Mills, and Jerry and Danny Taylor; and a brother, Robert Gregg.

At the end of the day, Mary Ann will be remembered for her love of family. There were no stepchildren in her eyes. She loved all her children and their families and gave from her heart.

Survivors include her children, daughters Debbie Carson and her husband, Perry, of Daniels, Catherine Wyrick and Loretta Williams, both of Randleman, N.C., and Pauline Mills of Magadore, Ohio; sons Donnie Mills and his wife, Shirley, of Lexington, N.C., Ray Taylor and his wife, Neva, of Beaver, David Taylor and his wife, Angela, of Liberty, N.C., Dale Taylor and his wife, Kathy, of Amelia, Va., and Steve Taylor and his wife, Dawn, and Lee Taylor, all of Fitzpatrick; 21 grandchildren, among them Matthew and Jeremy Carson, who helped care for their grandmother; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Seelinger of Fort Pierce, Fla., and Carol Brady of Shady Spring; brothers, Tom Gregg and his wife, Wanda, of Daleville, Va., and Dearl Gregg and his wife, Becky, of Fort Pierce; and several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 3 p.m. Monday at Melton Mortuary Chapel, Beckley, with the Rev. Rodney Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Canaday cemetery, Glen View.

Friends may call 1 p.m. until the time of service.

Pallbearers will be family members and friends.

Mansel White

RICHWOOD — Mansel White, 90, of Richwood and Melbourne, Fla., passed away Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006.

Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at White Funeral Home, Summersville. Friends may call noon until time of service Tuesday at the funeral home.

Emma Louise Sudduth

Emma Louise Sudduth, 83, of Beckley, departed this life on Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006, at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Audie Sudduth; brothers, Clinton Ashley, William Ashley, Charles Ashley and Richard Ashley; and two sisters, Margie Richmond and Polly Breeden.

Mrs. Sudduth was born Nov. 3, 1923, at Thurmond and was the daughter of the late William Maxwell Ashley and Emma Holiday Ashley.

Those left to cherish her memory are a son, Ray McLaughlin; a granddaughter; sisters, Frances Gardner of Elkton, Md., and Jean Marie Winders of Beckley; a brother, John Ashley of Columbus, Ohio; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

Emma retired from Tecumseh Engines and was a huge fan of the late great Elvis Presley.

Service will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, Beckley, with Brother Danny Winders officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may call one hour before service at the funeral home.

Mary Ann Gregg Taylor of Daniels passed away Friday, Dec. 29, 2006, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness. She was 76 years of age.

ROBSON — Jessie C. Stover, 80, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006, at Charleston Area Medical Center, Memorial Division.

ANSTED — Nellie Frances Wood, 95, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006.

Goldie Bowman Lambert

RURAL HALL, N.C. - Goldie Bowman Lambert, 83, formerly of Pineville, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, at her residence.

Born Dec. 21, 1919, in Wytheville, Va., she was the daughter of the late Emmitt and Rosie Hawks Bowman.

Mrs. Lambert attended Pentecostal Church of God, was retired from the Wyoming County Board of Education and enjoyed quilting and crafts.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Frederick Lambert; two sons, Billy and Charles Lambert; a sister; and two brothers.

Survivors include four sons, Russell Lambert of Alachua, Fla., Ronald Lambert and wife, Joyce, of Elmore, Ala., Thomas Lambert and wife, Shirley, of Glenville, Ga., and Kenneth Lambert of Indian Trail, N.C.; two daughters, Hazel Jackson and husband, Leroy, of Rural Hall and Kathy Cook and husband, John, of Virginia Beach, Va.; three sisters, Sylvia Steele of Brenton, Blanche Beverly of Newberry, Fla., and Thelma Leasure of White Plains, N.Y.; 21 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Calfee Funeral Service Chapel, Pineville, with the Revs. Raymond Bishop and Tommy Knotts officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.

The family will receive friends one hour before service Sunday at the funeral home.

Special thanks and appreciation to Sandra McBride, a granddaughter, for her love and care that she has given our mother for the past eight months.

Eugene Lively

Eugene Lively, 86, of Dry Hill, Beckley, died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003, at the Beckley VA Medical Center.

Born July 27, 1917, at Cranberry, he was the son of the late George and Lena Wilson Lively.

Mr. Lively was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy at Pearl Harbor. He began working at the New River Coal Co. at Cranberry at an early age. He later worked at the Dr Pepper Co. and at Beckley Glass Co. for 20 years.

He retired from Pavex Inc., where he was an equipment operator.

He loved gardening, doing carpenter work, bluegrass music and spending time with his family whom he dearly loved.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Elmont and George Jr.; a sister, Wanda Schmidt; and his stepmother, Stella Smith Lively.

He is survived by his loving wife, Stella Evans Lively. They would have celebrated 67 years of marriage on Dec. 24.

He will also be greatly missed by two daughters, Betty Arthur of Prosperity and Alicia Cox and husband, Paul, of Medina, Ohio; four grandchildren, Keith Cox and wife, Susan, of Medina, Steve Arthur and wife, Lisa, of Prosperity, Greg Arthur and wife, Sherrie, of Charlotte, N.C., and Lori Aveni and husband, Scott, of Damascus, Md.; three brothers, Beaulis of Lenoir City, Tenn., Jimmy of Lexington, N.C., and Daniel of Cranberry; and a sister, Shirley Hawley of Maxwell Hill.

Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with the Rev. Fred Lovell officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Family and friends may call noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Herman E. Miller

BALLARD - Herman E. Miller, 86 of Ballard, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, in Springfield Center, Lindside.

Mr. Miller was a carpenter.

Born March 9, 1917, at Wikel, he was a son of the late David and Mattie Copeland Miller. Herman was raised by his aunt and uncle, Arthur and Ethel Underwood, following the death of his mother when he was 5 years old.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Miller.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Beulah E. Taylor Miller; a brother-in-law, J.J. Taylor of Winston-Salem, N.C.; a sister-in-law, Jessie Miller; two half sisters, Lillian Belcher and Neva Broyles; and several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel, Peterstown, with the Rev. Bob Bradley and Evangelist Roger Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow in Orchard cemetery, Ballard.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Oley Morgan

BRENTON - Oley Morgan, 65, died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003, of a massive heart attack.

Born Aug. 16, 1938, at Indian Creek, Wyoming County, he was the son of the late Alex and Gertrude Lambert Morgan.

Oley was a retired coal miner, having worked at Island Creek Coal Co. at Wyoming and Robinson-Phillips Coal Co. at Marianna. He had a total of 32 years in and around the coal mines. He attended Brenton Baptist Church. He enjoyed working in his yard and his flower gardens and watching the hummingbirds in the summer. Oley loved his family and he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Willie, Robert, Henry, Junior, Lacy and Herbert Morgan; and a sister, Gladys Fox.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Rita Webb Morgan; two daughters, Terri Hatfield and her husband, Brad, of Brenton and Cathy Browning and her husband, Paul, of Matheny; five grandchildren, Jonathan and Kayla Barber, both of Brenton, Steven Browning of Matheny, Christy Massie and her husband, Jason, of Brenton and Pfc. Michael Browning, MP, of Fort Leavenworth, Kan.; two great-granddaughters, Hailey and Hannah Massie, both of Brenton; a brother, Raymond Morgan of Colonial Beach, Va.; three sisters, Minnie Moody and Anna Lee Echard, both of Fanrock, and Pearl Rose of Salisbury, N.C.; and two special buddies, Don Adkins of Brenton and Bill Meadows of Beckley.

Oley will be sadly missed by his family, relatives and a host of friends.

Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Calfee Funeral Service Chapel, Pineville, with the Rev. Tommy Knotts officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Paul Browning, Don Adkins, Bill Meadows, Jason Massie, Jonathan Barber, Steven Browning and Russ Oney.
