LAOMI, Ill. - Lydia Meredith, 44, formerly of White Oak, died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005, in Springfield, Ill., following a short illness.

Connie Sue Mills

Connie Sue Mills, 51, of Sophia, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005, following a short illness.

Connie was born Sept. 4, 1954, at Beckley, the daughter of the late Johnny Howerton and Teresa Miller Howerton.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Curtis Mills of Sophia; five daughters, Chrystal Palmer of Cherryville, N.C., Carrie Lilly of Lillybrook, Cassie Rhodes of Crab Orchard, Candace Smith of Crab Orchard, and Courtney Mills at home; four sisters, Dolly Mills, Shirley Mills and Wanda Perry, all of Louisville, Ky., and Barbara Sargent of Elysburg, Pa.; two brothers, Virgil Howerton of Soak Creek and Michael Howerton of Louisville, Ky.; 8 grandsons; and one granddaughter.

Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Williams-Blue Ridge Funeral Home, 147 Virginia St., Sophia, with the Rev. Troy Bolen officiating. Burial will follow in Slab Fork cemetery, Tams Mountain.

Friends may gather with the family from 10 a.m. until time of the service Wednesday at the funeral home.

Loraine J. Roberts

MATOAKA - Loraine J. Roberts, 77, died Monday, Sept. 19, 2005, at Wyoming Nursing and Rehabilitation at New Richmond.

Born March 11, 1928, at Crumpler, she was the daughter of the late Fred Lusk and Ava Lusk Lusk.

Mrs. Roberts was a homemaker and a member of the Beartown Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six sisters, Flossi Crouch, Martha Byrd, Evelyn Richardson, Pearl Parson, Helen Mitchem and an infant sister; and four brothers, Ernest Lusk, Glen Lusk, Dewey Lusk and Sanford Lusk.

Survivors include her husband, Carl Roberts; a daughter, Pamela Quesenberry and her husband, Ronnie, of Bud; a son, James Roberts of Bud; a brother, William Lusk and his wife, Bobby, of Bud; and a sister, Louise Carson and her husband, Walter, of Charlotte, N.C.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Larry Roberts officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton.

Serving as pallbearers will be Sanford Bailey, Dean Lusk, Bob Bailey, Amos Bailey, Tommy Roberts and Miles Bailey.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. until time of the service Wednesday at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton.

Hazel Christine Perkins Smith

Hazel Christine Perkins Smith, 76, of Beckley, passed away Monday, Sept. 19, 2005.

Blue Ridge Funeral Home, 5251 Robert C. Byrd Dr., Beckley, is serving the family.

Sidney Snuffer

GLEN ROGERS - Sidney Snuffer, 79, passed away Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005, following a long illness.

Born April 7, 1926, in Raleigh County, he was the son of the late Chris and Icie Wesley Snuffer.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mavis Bailey Snuf-fer; a daughter, Karen Snuffer; two brothers and one sister.

Mr. Snuffer attended the Glen Fork Church of God and he served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Campaign.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and the outdoors.

Survivors include two sons, Steve Snuffer and his wife, Nancy, of Glen Rogers, and Eddie Snuffer and his wife, Brenda, of Henry, Va.; three daughters, Linda Bentley and her husband, Lonnie, of New Carlisle, Ohio, Joyce Ann Bailey of Pineville, and Deloris VanReese and her husband, Vic, of Herndon, Va.; a brother, Sebert Snuffer of Glen Rogers; three sisters, Velva Maggart of Apopka, Fla., Rita Tolliver of Glen Rogers, and Jean Overstreet of Apopka, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Evans Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Darrell Stapleton officiating. Burial will follow in the Pine Grove cemetery, Ravencliff.

Friends may call from 12 noon until time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Deborah Miller Suggs

DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. - Deborah Miller Suggs, passed away Thursday, Sept. 15, 2005, at the age of 50.

Debbie was born in Mount Hope on Nov. 17, 1954, to Douglas Paul Hurd and Margaret Karnes Hurd.

She was preceded in death by her father, Douglas Paul Hurd.

Other than her mother, Margaret Hurd Crawford and stepfather, William T. Crawford of Scarbro, she is survived by her husband, Glenn Suggs of Douglasville, Ga.; three daughters, Wendy Shorter and fiance, Michael Hicks, of Salisbury, N.C., Ginger Nicholas and husband, Jason, of Salisbury, N.C., Michelle Miller of Douglasville, Ga.; two sons, Jason VanBuren and wife, Angel, of Kannapolis, N.C., and David Miller and his father, Steven D. Miller, of Covington, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Kristin Brown of Austin, Texas, Chelsey Brown, Brianna Nicholas, Hunter Nicholas, Austin Nicholas of Salisbury, N.C., Kayla VanBuren and Dalton VanBuren of Kannapolis, N.C.; a sister, Erma Hooper of Mt. Crawford, Va.; brothers, Raymond Hurd of Navarre, Fla. and Douglas Paul Hurd Jr. of Hyattsville, Md.; and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Debbie will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Service will be 1 p.m. today at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with Pastor Jerry Bush officiating. Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may gather with family one hour before the service today at the funeral home.

CASS - Dorothy Mae Tacy, 91, died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Arbovale cemetery, Arbovale. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Kendall Kristine Varney

Kendall Kristine Varney, 16, of Crab Orchard went to be with the Lord on Sept. 18, 2005.

Kendall was a student at Independence High School in her junior year and was a home-coming attendant of last year. She enjoyed arts and crafts.

She was of the Baptist faith and attended Gentry Baptist Church.

Those left to cherish her loving memory are her parents Donald Varney and Patty Tilley; stepfather, James Tilley; stepmother Angie Varney; paternal grandparents, Sherman and Doralene Redden of Mabscott; maternal grandparents, James and Melinda Law of Piney View; a sister Amanda Varney of Crab Orchard; a stepsister Jackie Rose of Pax; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

She is preceded in death by a great-grandfather Randolph Farmer; a great-grandmother, Vonda Gadomski; great-grandparents, Roy and Lucille Law.

Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Williams-Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Sophia, with Pastor Bill Drennen officiating.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Family and friends will be serving as pallbearers.

James E. Wright

CLEVELAND, Ohio - James Everett Wright, 73, formerly of West Virginia, passed away Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005, at the Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio, after a long illness.

He was born June 24, 1932, at Dorothy, a son of the late Okey and Alma Carr Wright.

Mr. Wright was a retired employee of General Motors, Parma, Ohio, as a machinist. He was a veteran of the Korean War, where he served with the 5th and 51st Air Force Division. He was a coach with the John Hay High School Baseball Team and West Denison Little League Baseball. He was precinct committee man for his community under Councilman Jay Westbrook in Cleveland, Ohio, and worked with the Cuyahoga County children's services.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Katy Gilfilen Wright, and an infant son; two brothers, Ernest Wright and Wilford Wright; and special in-laws, J.C. and Wanda McRoberts.

He is survived by his wife, Shelia Wright of Cleveland, Ohio; daughters, Jane Yeager and husband, Paul of Hurricane, Cheryl Wright and companion, Tommy Dickens of Naoma, Sharon Pfeil and husband, Richard, of Fort Mill, S.C., Linda Dickens and husband, Ray, of Beckley, Danyelle Wright and companion, Alex Jarrell, of Naoma, Lenna Rodin and husband, Larry, of Cleveland, Ohio, Mida McGarry and husband, Darrin, of Hammond, Ind., Tammy Campbell and her companion, Marl, of Cleveland, Ohio, Angel Campbell and her companion, Isaac, of Parma, Ohio, Amanda Campbell and husband, Fadi, of Cleveland, Ohio, Crissy Campbell and husband, Dan, of Hammond, Ind.; sons, Tim Wright and companion, Tina, of Naoma, James Wright and wife, Cyndi, of Wakeman, Ohio, James Wright Jr., Brandon Wright, Josh Campbell, all of Cleveland, Ohio; a brother, Oscar Wright of Clearfork, and a sister, Berniece Scarbrough of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; 24 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Armstrong Funeral Home, Whitesville, with the Rev. Danny Gilfilen officiating. Burial will follow in Miller cemetery, Pine Knob, with military graveside rites being conducted by the VFW Post No. 4326 of Sophia.

Friends may call two hours before the service Wednesday at the funeral home.

VERNER — Jeffrey Browning, 33, died Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2005.

Lovernia Childs Coleman

Lovernia Childs Coleman, 90, of 128 Old Turnpike Road, Beckley, died Monday, Oct. 24, 2005, at Raleigh General Hospital.

Born Nov. 13, 1914, in Halafax, Va., she was the daughter of the late Willie Childs and Hallie Bell Owens Childs.

Mrs. Coleman was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Harper Heights, where she served on the Missionary Board.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Coleman; an infant daughter; three grandchildren; five sisters; and three brothers.

Survivors include her children, Donnie (Ann) Coleman of Florence, S.C., R.D. (Delores) Coleman of Chicago, Ill., Robert (Jo Ann) Coleman of Grand Prairie, Texas, Lee Ethel Reeves of Grand Prairie, Odella Coleman of Harper Heights and Margie Norfleet of Harper Heights; a sister, Mary Brown of Flushing, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Service will be 1 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church, Harper Heights, with the Rev. Thomas V. Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may call one hour before service Sunday at the church.

ISABAN — Adreonna Friend, 3-month-old infant daughter of Allison Friend and Shad Birchfield of Isaban, died Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2005.
