Dorothy M. Quesenberry

Dorothy M. Quesenberry, 76, of Lanark, passed from this life following a battle with a number of combined illnesses. Mrs. Quesenberry had a brief stay at Hilltop Nursing Center and ended her time at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2005.

Born Jan. 19, 1928, at Leslie in Greenbrier County, she was the daughter of the late Sebert J. Webb and Florence Carroll Webb.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara A. Quesenberry; a son, Ernest “Dougie” Quesenberry; brothers, Grover S. Webb and Vernon M. Webb; four sisters, Pauline Webb, Emijean Webb, Nellie Webb and Mertie Webb; and close family members, Ralph French and Suenell Quesenberry French.

Mrs. Quesenberry during her young years lived in Wrights, Prince, where she attended through the eighth grade at Wright School. On Nov. 23, 1946, she became the wife of Ernest “Jack” Quesenberry and was a homemaker the remainder of her life.

Dorothy loved to see her great-grandchildren and the family pets; she enjoyed spending her time taking short car rides in the local areas she was familiar and comfortable with, the Stanaford, Piney View and Mount Hope areas.

Dorothy was a person with strong will and a determination to speak her mind regardless of other opinions, and she lived her life the way she wanted to. Although she was set in her ways, if one glanced beyond the tainted glass, and the confusion, at heart she was a kind, loving and a very generous person who believed and trusted in God.

Those left to hold her memories are her husband of 58 years, Ernest “Jack” Quesenberry; a son, Opie D. Quesenberry of Newport News, Va.; a daughter-in-law, Jan Nichols; a sister, Mary Loraine Webb of Lanark; grandchildren, Bobby Quesenberry and Teresa Quesenberry, both of Virginia, and Chastity Quesenberry Boyd, who resided and was raised in Dorothy’s home from birth, and her husband, Greg “Zuki” Boyd, of Prosperity; five great-grandchildren, Tyler W. Boyd and Lauren P. Boyd, both of Prosperity, and Zachary Quesenberry, Bobby Quesenberry Jr. and Brittany Quesenberry, all of Virginia; in-laws, Ronnie and Patty Boyd; and many other friends and family from the Lanark area, with special thanks to the Burdiss, Cheselka and Kalie families.

Respecting the wishes of Dorothy, there will be no visitation service, and her body will be simplified and buried back to the earth. Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Stanaford cemetery with the Rev. Gene Hall officiating, where she will be placed next to her loved ones, and all are welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, donations for Dorothy’s final preparations would be appreciated.

Arrangements by Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, Beckley.
