Janet M. Ayers

BELLBURN — Janet M. Ayers, 60, passed away Friday, Oct. 27, 2005, at the home of her daughter following a long illness.

Born April 27, 1945, at Meadow Bridge, she was the daughter of the late Lonnie and Hellen Hess Forren.

Mrs. Ayers was a homemaker and had worked as an EMT for West End Ambulance.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Sallie and Alex Forren; a daughter, Yvonne Ayers; a son, Lonnie Ayers; and an aunt, Rosa Bowmar.

Survivors include six daughters, Martha Ayers and companion, Mike Bragg, of Rainelle, Sallie Winals and husband, Tony, of Leslie, Rebecca Loudermilk and husband, Rusty, of Crichton, Madonna Hughart and husband, Ray, of Hines, Lula Robinson and husband, B.J., of Nettie and Kayla Ayers of Rainelle; three sons, Larry Ayers and wife, Lisa, of Rainelle, Jamie Ayers and companion, Amy Polgar, of Rainelle and Shane Ayers of Rainelle; three sisters, Maxine Shearing of Check, Va., Othella Lilly of Beckley and Mae Bolen of Glen White; two aunts, Leoma Adkins of Meadow Bridge and Lula Parker of Roanoke, Va.; and 12 grandchildren, Aaron, Kylee, Cody, Gabe, Savannah, Daniel, Hailey, Andrew, Phelicity, Dakota, Kaity and Maddy.

Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Wallace & Wallace Chapel, Rainelle, with the Rev. Charles Meadows officiating. Burial will follow in Wallace Memorial cemetery, Clintonville.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel.

Pallbearers will be Rusty Loudermilk, B.J. Robinson, Ray Hughart, Jamie Ayers, Alfred Ayers and Tony Winals.

Bernice Williams Burton

FAYETTEVILLE — Bernice Garnet Williams Burton, 80, passed away Thursday, Oct. 27, 2005, at Montgomery General Hospital in Olney, Md., following a sudden illness.

Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville, is in charge of arrangements.

June Lee Lay Chandler

MOUNT HOPE — June Lee Lay Chandler, 71, of Mount Hope, passed away Thursday, Oct. 27, 2005.

She was born June 27, 1934, at Mount Hope and was the daughter of the late Perry and Irene Lay.

Those left to cherish her loving memory include her husband of 52 years, Allen Chandler; a daughter, Karen Akers and her husband, Richard, of Gaithersburg, Md.; a son, Tim Chandler of Newark, Ohio; a granddaughter, Kelly Chandler of Toledo, Ohio; a great-granddaughter, Rayanne Lehman of Toledo; a brother, Edward Earl Lay and his wife, Renee, of Bowling Green, Ohio; a sister, Nancy Hurd of Gaithersburg; and many nieces and nephews.

Special thanks for the love and support of all her friends and First Church of God, Mount Hope, and the compassionate medical care received from the staff at Raleigh Regional Cancer Center and Raleigh General Hospital.

Service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with the Rev. Ronnie Stapleton officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today and 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Blue Ridge Funeral Home, 5251 Robert C. Byrd Drive, Beckley, is serving the family.

Harold Gerald Johnson

Harold Gerald Johnson, 59, departed this life in September 2005 in Washington, D.C. He was born Sept. 5, 1946, the son of the late Rev. Perkins J. Sr. and Mildred R. Johnson of Harvey. He graduated from Mount Hope High School in June 1965.

He is survived by his children, Shawn Scruggs, Shelley, Kendra, Harold Jr. and Gerard; a brother, Elder Perk-ins (Clara) J. Johnson Jr. of Mount Hope; eight sisters, Mary (Willie) Johnson and Carolyn Johnson of Washington, Bernice Neal of Baltimore, Md., Louise (Na-thaniel) Pierson of Forestville, Md., Hazel (John) Fitzhugh of Temple Hills, Md., Gloria Peaks and Patricia Anderson of Columbus, Ohio, and Marian (Earl) Young of Harvey; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Service of memory will be noon today at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, Carlisle.

Friends may call one hour before service today at the church.

Arrangements entrusted to Ritchie and Johnson Funeral Parlor, 748 S. Fayette St., Beckley.

HINTON — Robert H. Mullins, 85, died at 4 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28, 2005, in Charleston Area Medical Center, Memorial Division.

HILLTOP — Odella Myrick, 91, died Friday, Oct. 28, 2005, at her home.

Mildred Essie Nash

Mildred Essie Nash, 76, of Beckley, passed away Thursday, Oct. 27, 2005.

Born Nov. 16, 1928, at Clear Creek, she was the daughter of the late Lee and Okie Maynor.

Mrs. Nash enjoyed crochet, being active in Grace Baptist Church and reading the Bible. She worked for General Motors for 30 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Ron-ald Nash; and five brothers and sisters, Ruth Farley, Carmen Williams, Violet Treadway, Quentin Maynor and Tracy Maynor.

Those left to cherish her loving memory include her only surviving sibling, Kenneth Maynor; a daughter, Karen Harrison and her husband, Leroy, of Huntington, Ind.; two sons, Jerry Williams and his wife, Glida, of Clear Creek and Gary Nash of Only, Tenn.; a granddaughter, Vickie Williams of Clear Creek; three grandsons, Eric Williams and his wife, Merranda, of Clear Creek, David Nino and wife, Alicia, of Trenton, Mich., and Willie Nino and his wife, Deanna, of Southgate, Mich.; eight great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with Pastor Tommy Newman officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

William E. ‘Bill’ Sharpless

APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. — William E. “Bill” Sharpless, 47, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Oct. 16, 2005. He was born in Akron, Ohio, on Aug. 21, 1958.

William was a veteran of the U.S. Army and had resided in Apache Junction for the past 20 years. He had previously resided in Mount Hope.

He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Sharpless, and stepmother, Betty Sharpless of Apache Junction, Ariz.

He will be sadly missed by his mother, Barbara Wright, and stepfather, Earl Wright, of Beckley; sister, Rosemary Miller and husband, John, of Beckley; brothers, Robert Sharpless of Beckley, Mike Sharpless and wife, Lynn, of New Bern, N.C., Chuck Sharpless and wife, Brenda, of Mesa, Ariz., Elmer Wright of Mount Airy, N.C., and Billy Joe Wright of Beckley; a sister, Teresa Thompson of Pax; and aunts, uncles, and nieces, nephews and friends.

Memorial service was Oct. 20 at Apache Junction Mortuary.

Remembrance service will be 1 p.m. today at the Pax Community Room next to Pax City Hall, with interment to follow at Pax Community cemetery.

Fred Milton ‘Red’ Wilson

ALDERSON — Fred Milton “Red” Wilson, 75, died Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2005, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Fairlea, following a short illness.

Born Feb. 6, 1930, at Crows, Va., he was the son of the late Robert Milton and Nannie Mae Dameron Wilson.

Mr. Wilson was a retired self-employed restoration and auto body repairman and was co-owner with his son of R and R Imports, Alderson. He was of the Baptist faith, an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed and took great pride in restoring his antique cars.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Helen Virginia Burns Wilson; his best friend, Snuggles, his dog; four sons, Jimmy Wilson and his wife, Tammi, of Prince Frederick, Md., Freddie Wilson and his companion, Tiny, of Alderson, Joey Wilson and his fiancée, Melody, of White Sulphur Springs and Bobby “Pinky” Wilson and his wife, Robin, of Alderson; four daughters, Donna Virginia Via and her husband, Michael, of Covington, Va., Vivian Wolfe and her companion, Roger, of Alderson, Vickie Silver and her husband, Steve, of Florida and Donna Sue Galford and her husband, Michael, of Gap Mills; 22 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Lobban Funeral Home, Alderson. Private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Jewel Wills Wriston

OAK HILL — Jewel Wills Wriston, 83, died Thursday, Oct. 27, 2005, at Hidden Valley Healthcare Center in Oak Hill following a long illness.

Born May 23, 1922, at Putney, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Edward and Goldie Harper Wills.

Mrs. Wriston was a homemaker and a member of the Apostolic faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Wriston; a son, James F. Wriston; a brother, Richard Wills; and two sisters, Margaret Smith and Beulah Aliff.

Survivors include a daughter, Judith Kaye Ward and husband, Dennis, of Orange Park, Fla.; a son, Thomas W. Wriston of Mossy; a sister, Clara Henrey of Ohio; two brothers, James Wills of Glen Jean and William Wills of Montgomery, Ala.; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Carlos Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in Rinehart cemetery, Mossy.

Friends may call 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Bernice Williams Burton

FAYETTEVILLE — Bernice Garnet Williams Burton, 80, passed away Thursday, Oct. 27, 2005, in Laytonsville, Md., where she moved three years ago to make her home with her daughter and her husband, Peggy and Martin Ols.

Born Nov. 25, 1924, at Kaymoor, she was the daughter of the late John H. Williams and Mayme Jackson Williams.

Mrs. Burton was a member of Fayetteville Baptist Church and a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Burton, in 1963.

Survivors include her three daughters, Patricia M. Bird of Charleston, Peggy Burton Ols of Laytonsville, Md., and Penny L. Tonelli of Parkersburg; a brother, Burrel “Burley” Williams of Fayetteville; two sisters, Virginia Green of Oak Hill and Shirley Sizemore of Parrish, Fla.; four grandchildren, Rachel Price, Derek Price, Victoria Ross and Melissa Estep; and six great-grandchildren, Zachary, McKenzie, Clayton, Jason, Adam, and Heather.

Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home Chapel, Fayetteville, with the Rev. Bill Withers officiating. Burial will follow in Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville.

Friends may call one hour before service Tuesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1221A Ohio Ave., Dunbar, WV 25064, or the Ronald McDonald House, 302 30th St., Charleston, WV 25304.
