Ruth K. Ferguson, 94, of Beckley, died Sunday, Oct. 30, 2005, in a local hospital.
Born June 22, 1911, at Beaver, she was the daughter of the late Waldo J. and Hattie P. Snead Keaton.
Mrs. Ferguson was a homemaker, was a member of the Advent Christian faith, and had been a resident of Raleigh County for the past 82 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Bennie V. Ferguson, on June 7, 1996; and by a brother, Thomas Keaton.
Survivors include one brother, Mack Keaton and his wife Melba of Gloucester, Va.; and a niece, Neta J. Mundy and her husband Charles W. of Rupert.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum, with Rev. Orville Harvey officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
Friends may call at Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum one hour prior to services on Tuesday.

Clyde Andrew Hayworth
HOPE MILLS, N.C. — Clyde Andrew Hayworth, of Hope Mills, N.C., formerly of the Raleigh County area, died Saturday, Oct. 29, 2005, in a Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. He was 69 years of age.
Mr. Hayworth had served in the Armed Forces. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Pat Hayworth; a daughter, Revondia Jarrell; two sons, David and Timothy Hayworth; three brothers, Willie, Jack, and Freddie Hayworth; four sisters, Virginia Hunter, Mary Bell, Shelby Hayworth, and Opal Tingler; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Melton Mortuary Chapel, with the Revs. Wayne Chandler and Carroll Hayworth officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley.
Friends may call today from 6 until 8 p.m. at the mortuary.

Frederick O. Helm
After a long illness, Frederick Helm died Saturday, Oct. 29, 2005, at St. Mary’s Hospital.
Frederick O. Helm was born Jan. 19, 1925, in Beckley, to his parents, the late Oscar and Gladys Calfee Helm.
After graduating from high school in 1943, he joined the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific during WWII. Following military service, he entered Virginia Polytechnic Institute where he graduated with a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering in 1949. While there he was elected to Eta Kappa Nu and Tau Beta Pi, honorary engineering societies.
Upon graduation, he joined Appalachian Power Company in Beckley as a power sales engineer. Since then, he held positions with Appalachian as area superintendent in St. Albans, district superintendent in Beckley, commercial-industrial sales supervisor in Charleston, division sales manager in Charleston, and in 1974 was promoted to division manager in Huntington. He received management training at the Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Michigan.
Mr. Helm was a registered professional engineer in the State of West Virginia, a former member of the Huntington Rotary Club, past president of the Beckley Lions Club, past president of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, Inc., and past president of the Huntington Industrial Corporation. He served on the board of directors of the American Electric Power Service Corporation, Tri-State Area Council Boy Scouts of America, Huntington Chamber Orchestra, National Alliance of Businessmen, Huntington Area Chamber of Commerce, Huntington-Cabell County Chapter of the American Red Cross and Big Brothers/Big Sisters of the Tri-State. He served on an advisory committee to the West Virginia Board of Regents regarding the role of West Virginia’s Engineering schools. Fred supported Marshall University and was a member of The John Marshall Society. He was a member of Fifth Avenue Baptist Church in Huntington where he served as Church Moderator for two years and was active in the choir and music program.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Emily W. Helm; his son and daughter-in-law, James and Susan Helm of Lexington, Ky. (formerly of Philadelphia, Pa.); his daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Steve Smith; grandsons, Luke and Nick Smith, all of Barboursville.
Visitation will be at Klingel Carpenter Mortuary today, Oct. 31, 2005 from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
Services to be held Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2005, at 1 p.m. at the Fifth Avenue Baptist Church by Dr. Allen Reasons. Interment will follow in Spring Hill cemetery.

Odella Myrick
HILLTOP — Odella Myrick, 91, of Hilltop, passed away on Oct. 28, 2005, at her home, following a lengthy illness.
Born March 8, 1914, at Maruel, Ala., she was the daughter of the late Mary Reese.
Odella was a homemaker, and a member of the Glorious Church of God in Christ, Mt. Hope.
Other than her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Myrick, in 1967.
Survivors include her daughter, Minister Mary G. Myrick Coles and husband Sonny of Norwalk, Ohio; stepdaughters, Doris Dayton of Waterboro, S.C., and Lou Robinson and husband Frank of Birmingham, Ala.; 13 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
Services will be 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Ritchie and Johnson Funeral Parlor Chapel, with Bishop John Grant officiating. Burial will follow in Pierce cemetery, Fayetteville.

CLARKSVILLE, IND. —Helen L. Farr Bowyer, 87, formerly of Oak Hill, died Sunday, Oct. 30, 2005, at a Clarksville, Ind., care center following a long illness.
Born June 10, 1918, at Sharpes, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Edna Mitchell Farr Sr.
Mrs. Bowyer was a homemaker. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Oak Hill.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ambrose “Buzz” Bowyer; and a son, James Bowyer.
Survivors include a daughter, Pat Treadway and husband, C.R., of Clarksville, Ind.; a daughter-in-law, Jean Bowyer of Southgate, Mich.; a brother, Stanley Farr Jr. of Morgantown; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Margaret Adair Cook
BASIN — Margaret Adair Cook, 88, passed away Saturday, Oct. 29, 2005, at Princeton Community Hospital following a long illness, where she was lovingly surrounded by family.
Born March 22, 1917, in Staffordsville, Va., she was the daughter of the late Claude Barley and Polly Ann Akers Phipps.
Mrs. Cook was a homemaker, a 54-year resident of Barker’s Ridge and a 60-year member of the Spruce Grove Missionary Baptist Church. She was a 12-year employee of the U.S. Postal Service, having worked at Stephenson Post Office. She enjoyed gardening, growing beautiful roses and working crossword puzzles. Spending time with her family was her favorite pastime. She was a wonderful cook and a kind and loving mother and friend to all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Marion Cook; two sisters, Bertha Blevins and Shirley Swim; and a brother, Harvey Phipps.
Those left to cherish her memory are four sons, Richard Cook and his wife, Astor, of Basin, Byron Cook and his wife, Sandy, of Elsmere, Ky., Ray Cook and his wife, Sharon, of Nicholasville, Ky., and Kenneth Cook of Somerville, Va.; two daughters, Marian Bell and her husband, Ron, of Pickerington, Ohio, and Rachel Perdue and her husband, Paul, of Basin, with whom she made her home for the last eight yeas; 13 grandchildren, Mark, Larry, David, Kathy, Susan, Michael, Daryl, Candace and Sheena Cook, Neal and Jennifer Bell, and Adam and Justin Perdue; 11 great-grandchildren; and Dempsey McKinney, a loving friend who helped with her care.
Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Gilbert Dodson officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton.

Virginia Lee Eichhorn, 79, of 401 Stanley Street, Beckley, died Friday, Oct. 28, 2005, at the home of her son, following a long illness.
Born at Backus Mountain on Nov. 10, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Sam and Annie Harrah.
Mrs. Eichhorn was a homemaker, and was a member of the Memorial Baptist Church in Beckley.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas Hickman; her second husband, Clark Eichhorn; a son, Larry Hickman; brothers, James, Ralph, Wilmer and Kenny Harrah; and a sister, Thelma Foster.
Survivors include a son, Jerry Hickman and wife, Patricia, of Crab Orchard; a sister, Kathleen Ruth of Mabscott; four grandchildren, Larry D. Hickman, Teresa Brooks, Paula Shrewsberry and husband, Bryon, all of Beckley, and Sgt. Larry Andrew Thomas Hickman and wife, Ceresa, of Yuma, Ariz.; and five great-grandchildren, Sydney, Baylee, Madison, Haley and Ethan.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. today at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, with the Rev. David Chrisman officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity.
Friends called 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
